Only the 1982 of that generation Vette had an opening back glass and only on a special edition. 1983 was the year of no Vettes. Switch with the green light is the rear window defroster.
8:57 "Do all the gauges work?"..... Yep but the clock doesn't! Lol
82 is the crossfire injection, 83 there was no corvette, 84 corvette was crossfire. And the 81 was last carburetor corvette. And the crossfire is a good motor I have a 84 corvette im the original owner it has 90k miles and it has no problems
81 did not come with the crossfire injection. This year had a computer controlled quadrajet carburetor. I had to rebuild mine about 5 times before I had to move on to something else.
82 had the dreaded crossfire.. and while it was looked down upon at the time, we know it is actually really an improvement from carburetors.
Great find on this corvette, it is beautiful and really my favorite body style of them all.
Great looking car. I'd keep it. Minor miracle the electric windows work. I've had to replace a few of those...
This guy that did my grandpas plumbing his friend has one and it’s at his house and I want it soooooo bad omg
Wrap your a$$ in fiberglass...timeless cool car!
That’s gorgeous‼️ ironically, I tried to get a 2002 Corvette at auction today‼️🚗 I jumped in too late‼️ 😭
Wheels are original. Clean design, wish they were available in a 5 x 4.5" BP with a 17"-18" diameter. Cross-fire injection is also known as "Cease-Fire"
Nice ride, to bad it’s a automatic.............
This has been my dream car since I was about five or six years old our neighbor used to have one and I thought it was the coolest car back then and still do
@Capt. Dfl
Good for you man
I had a '72 Vette Convertible (with hard-top)! With either tops on, it leaked like a screen door on a submarine! It was like an old girlfriend, looked good but you take 'em around the block and you realize why you got rid of them!
wow what an amazing car, still my favorite body style!!!
C3 and C5 are both designs that have stood the test of time. But, did he buy it right.....? Let's see what he's asking on the website and we'll know. In any event, a very nice, clean C3. Enjoy!
1980 was the last year that all Corvettes were assembled in St Louis. The 81 was assembled in St Louis and Bowling Green, KY. The 1980s that were sold new in California all had 305 engines instead of the 350s. I had an 81 convertible that was modified into a convertible. It was nicely done but it was a dog performance wise. I bored it out to 355 and did the Edelbrock carb, intake, cam and heads. What a difference!
it’s nice to see someone so happy in life with what they do! i aspire to find something that makes me feel this way
I was 16 when this car was new, cool machine
Wow lucky you
it's your age that makes you want that Vet. You are going through the change old dude, LMAO@YOU.
Let him have his fun while he can. I love vettes, a buddy has this exact same year except his is all original and stock. only issue is he has to run around to the passenger side to pull me out because my knees are shot.
🤣😂
I admit it is my age that made me want my90 ZR-1. That being said it is an awesome car.
@@davidjaxson59 who cares? The beauty about it is you can afford it so go right ahead and piss on anyone who looks down on you for it.
The funny thing is: women laugh at middle aged men in sports cars but think it is perfectly fine to pay the same amount in shoes and dresses that they'll only wear once hahaha
Fuck em if they don't like it .
I just love ur channel, im from Uruguay and about to get my residence and start my adverture in usa doing what you do from scratch, after see 100000 dealers videos in RUclips i just watch videos from your channel now since in my opinion is the best one.
Thanks for all the videos! If you can say hi to Roma from Uruguay i will be super happy, best for you and your family this 2020!
Nicest car I have ever seen on your channel! Congrats!! It would be tough for me to sell it.
1981 was last year of carb ,1982 cross fire injection 1983 no corvettes made till 84 year
What a time machine! Grow a mullet and a moustache, get some aviators, a muscle shirt and find that old 80s mixed tape. If you pass a clock tower at exactly 88 mph lighting could strike. ..I’m just saying, you never know.
😅🤣😂
Our neighbors when I was growing up owned the local Chevy/Buick dealership.
He said the mechanics at his shop nicknamed the Cross Fire engine Cease Fire.
And I've been told by several mechanics that the only thing wrong with the CF injection system wer the so-called "mechanics" who didn't know how to work on or adjust them from time to time when needed. Go to the Face Book '82 Corvette Club page and ask that same question to the guys who own and work on them and they'll tell you the same. Just saying....
I'v always liked this body style Vette. I worked on a beautiful new one back in 1981 and ended up driving it around some and it was a fun car to drive, especially at 18 years old. You have a beautiful example for sure.
Nice find craig!!! I was as excited as you were seeing that car!!!! All smiles through the entire video. That is TRUE car porn!!!!
It's been resprayed. The dark claret is proper, but the smoked oyster interior was not offered in 1980 only in 78 and 79 models. What you need to do is put it on a lift and inspect the condition of the bird cage and the runners above the frame rails for rust/rot.
The oyster colored interior was offered in 1980
@@Verttime No, the 1980 came in doeskin not oyster. 78 was the 25th anniversary and the first year of 2 for the C3 oyster white interior, and used again in 79. The color codes are 12C for cloth , 122 for leather both in 78 and 79. 1980 only offered doeskin in 59c cloth and 592 leather. The only other color combinations available were black-medium red-dark blue-dark green-silver and claret.
180 hp, forget it. A sheep in wolves clothing. These slugs run mid to high 16's in the quarter. My 82 Capri with the 157 hp 5 litre and a 4 speed ran 16.3 for a 1/3 the price.
Yeah , BUT ......it was a Capri !
OR
What is known to car guys as a .....CRAPPY !
AND
I have heard the term ......... CARP as well
Do not tell anyone you had a Capri .........Its social suicide !
@@gregpolski9819 they are beautiful inside and out but they are slowww. My friend had a 75 and a school bus was faster
I almost bought a new 1979 Corvette, wish I would have, very cool design...
1980. Carb. 1981 carb. 1982. Crossfire also year for collector edition . No corvette for 83 84 first year of c4 corvette a d yes crossfire . Nice car great find.
Awesome find. Don't flip that switch; it might be the ejection seat!
Great car. I’d just change out the radio to one with a black face.
Car looks amazing you're correct 81 was crossfire injection as well as 82 they did not stop making the Corvette until 82 start they had so money left over 82. So what did Chevy dealerships from what my friend tells me whether it's correct or not used to work at a Chevy dealership says there were so many 82 leftover they were reinventing them in 80 3 before they left they're simply plant and selling them as 83 I don't know if that's correct or not. But that's what he said everybody one of the 84 Corvette so they were stuck or the 82 + 80 two and a half or whatever they call them. the funny thing is the 84 Corvettes had a crossfire fuel injection like the 82 and threes which is complete garbage. then if you wanted to Trifecta you got a Doug Nash 4 + 3 speed which every other gear was an overdrive like a splitter it was a garbage transmission. 84 on the turbine style rims with black in the center 85 and 6 was a dark charcoal 87 were silver machine finish also an easy way to look at the exhaust tips they had four exhaust tips and 84 is pointed down or 85 on up with just straight duals on each side as well as a black center of the wheel
1980 & 1981 were standard 350 L82 or L48 or 305. 1982 was crossfire injection. No 1983 model year corvette. Rear glass hatch was 1982 only.
@@robgribble1in 1982 you on your way you can get that rear popping class was to get to collector edition it was not an option for any other car. You can make it work but it took a lot of work to retrofit that window it was not a bolt-on process . And it was not an option for a standard Corvette it only came standard on a collector edition Vette
@@robgribble1 and like I said they the left over 82 we're being sold 83. At like I said before my friend who used to work at a dealership shed that's so quarterbacks that were still the manufacturing were left at the manufacturing plant we're getting 83 VIN numbers I don't know if that's true or not. I do know about the rear window being collector car only
82's were sold as 82's . They may have still been selling them in 83 but they were still 82's. I bought my 2019 Grand Sport that was built in Nov of 2018, does that mean it's a 2018? Of course not.
@@bassb450 like I said several times before I don't know that to be true that is what he told me. The only thing I know to be true is the rear window on collector car popping up add the 80 tooth being crossfire fuel injection
I am NOT a Corvette guy, but isn't the Dark Cleret a kind of rare color?
Congrats, It seemed like Christmas in Feburary for you with this gem. Was almost certain you was going to keep that 1 for a while and have a little fun with her.
it's a fiberglass car so you'll never see any rust on the body on the frame that's a different story they always used to rust from the frame up that looks like you got a good car
side pipes suck
Beautiful Vette. If I had a place to put it I would grab it.
@ 6:42, 1980 is non-computerized Quadrajet. 1981 is computerized Quadrajet. 1982 is Crossfire Fuel Injection.
130k plus miles
The C3 is, and will always be cool, even more with the sidepipes. Don’t forget the sound that comes out of these pipes.! Specially with an automatic trans.
north canton ohio is in the rust belt. hardly a "southern car."
Steve Whyte saved me the trouble.
How could you NOT think these cars are cool?? I just (2 weeks ago) bought an '82 Corvette Collector Edition with only 24,700 miles on it. And as for the T-Top Vettes, they first came out in '68, not the late '70s. Headlights never work?? I've owned 9 C3s over the past 30 years and ALL OF THEM worked.....slow maybe, but they all worked. The '82 had the Cross Fire injection, no Corvettes in '83. And one last thing....there was nothing wrong with the Cross Fire Injection system. The ONLY problem with them is that so few "mechanics" knew how to work on them or adjust them when needed, so their "tinkering" with them just made them worse......fact. Go to the Face Book '82 Corvette Club page and ask that same question to the guys who own and restore them and they'll tell you the same. Just saying......
Your history is a bit off. . .There was no Corvette for 1983. . .But there was a 1982 Vette for sure. The 82 "Collectors Edition" featured a lift-up rear window! The only year they skipped was 1983. And the 1981 Vette was NOT cross-fire fuel injection. . .The '81 had a Rochester carburetor. But to pass emissions regulations that were getting very strict at that time they inserted a single injector into the carburetor. It basically was a computer-controlled 4-barrel carburetor. Then in 1982 all Vettes came with the Cross-Fire injection system. I owned an '81 that I bought used in 1986. It only had 14,000 miles on it when I bought it and it was my daily driver for 4 years. Then in the span of one month it was hit TWICE by drunk drivers. Once while parked at my apartment complex and once while I was driving it. I ended up selling it to a guy who restored Vettes. And one other thing, my '81 had a 4-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed manual was definitely an option in 1981. Mine was also one of the last Vettes produced at the original St. Louis Vette plant. Vette production was moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky in June of '81. . .The last Vettes rolled out of the St. Louis plant in August of '81. Sure wish I still had mine. . .Dark Metallic Blue with a Silver (NOT grey) leather interior. . .I enjoy your videos!
TIME CAPSULE
PROBABLY THE CLEANEST ONE LEFT ( damn shame a SOUTHERN
vett wound up so far NORTH ) !!!!
They never stopped making the Corvette. 1981 was similar. The 1982 model was the last year of this body style. In 1983 it was redesigned with the new body style. Or did you mean that they just stopped making Cross-Fire Injection?
I like how you said you’ll make sure not to put leaded fuel in it lmao. They banned leaded fuel in cars years before you were even driving lol. 1975 the year the cat converters came out it was gone and switched to unleaded. HTH.
The Corvette has always been cool!
Well then I guess I really scored. One year ago I purchased a 1981 with only 24,414mi.
The C-3 Corvettes are the best body style of all the vettes. No rust because you got it down south, wasn't from a coastal city. I live in Charleston SC and the salt air is a bitch! Constant battle with rust at the beach. Too bad it's a auto transmission, 80-82 a lot of them were, the '82 was only available in automatic, plus lousy horsepower. A lot of the engine has been upgraded so not stock but probably get more power out of it.
1982 Corvettes are all crossfire and all automatic, and the rear window was a hatch on the 82 only. 1981 you could get a stick shift, 1983 there was no Corvette until 1984
Like a Silicon Super-Model, al Show, No Go..But I Get it, Indeed, a Beautiful car!!
82 was the crossfire , no 83 Corvette and 84 was the crossfire. 85 went to the L98 Tuned Port injection engine.
I had that exact color but mine was a 81 and no way those side pipes are stock although the wheels are.......it was a good car for my girlfriend to drive, not fast enough for me
I had a new 1981 L82 in the same color exterior and beige cloth interior with glass mirror t-tops.
Chevy did make 15 1983 corvettes, they destroyed all but two. I think there is one left in the corvette museum in KY.
80 and 81 were still carburetor cars. The 82 was the first fuel injected cross fire and last c3 and the 83 was not done and the 84 c4 was also cross fire.
That switch may do the rear window defogger
Correct..rear window defrost...always take care when cleaning the rear window glass, obviously on the inside where the wires are. Never had a problem on my 1979 L-82 4 spd...the clock was another story ! Had chrome Hooker headers and sidepipes for a while..just use caution when exiting when wearing shorts !
81 was the last year of the carb...82 first year of cross fire...and 83 did not exist...
Nice find. Great looking Vette.
really underpriced, a quick search revealed that they are asking 13k and above for similar cars.
Not for non chrome bumpers. Can find ones like these for under 10k all day and some under 5
You’re asking to little, see it on your Facebook.
I always ask around 13,900-15,900 starting on all those late year C3s
People pay that high for a non chrome bumper? Why?? I'm seeing them around 6k
TrashBandit 24 all day, if you are seeing around 6k send them to me!! Internet is a wonderful thing
@@tylerswanger3452 which state?
That's the Vette I'm still looking for ... still!🏆🎯😉😎
That's a very clean example. Somebody took good care of it.
score!! I have a 1993 40th anniversary with 41k.
A year late to the show, little dangle button with green light..is a rear defroster..engages those heat grids in rear glass.
I have one with 6k original miles passed down to me send me contact info if interested its flawless
"Do the headlights work?" Not if the engine isn't running..
No. 1982 was cross-fire . 1984 was also cross - fire. 1980 was L 82 or L48. 1981 L81.
Crossfire was a great system. Don't assume rumors are true. Crossfire was 82 and 84 only. No 83 vettes sold
Super cool vette Greg let's hope you don't sell this 1
What's really funny about those side pipes? It sounds just like my Harley with stock mufflers lol (seriously it does!)
A vet is like looking at a sexy lady walking down the beach
rear defog is the switch you asked about
Great Clasic Car, and in very good Condition🤔👍🇺🇸
The green switch is for the rear window de froster
I know I'm a bit late but is this still up for sale lol?
My new 1981 was not crossfire!! Crossfire was started in 1982!!! No 1983's were made! 1984 and 1985 had crossfire!
1985 did not have Cross Fire. 1985 had the VIN code "8" RPO "L98" 350 TPI engine. '84 was the last year for the Cross Fire and it was carried over from the 1982 models which also had it.
congratulations!!! Great car!!!
That's a rear defogger switch.
What website did you use to find this cars?
The 83 Corvettes were the worst.... Bwahahahaha
the only class that ever opened was on the 1982 collector car edition it had a custom faded paint job with an Aztec the gold and I had special rims that looks like turbine with special center caps and a silver's gold leather interior. The hot shut up if you have an 80 or current fat with the swap out the collector edition class and and shocks it was a project cuz you had to pull the whole thing apart
It's not called Aztec gold it's called beige silver
Calm down cyrus from trail park boys
T-tops came out in '68 not late 70s
Nice car.. had a 1981 myself. 1982 was the cross fire injection. And, 1982 was the only year the rear hatched opened. Chevy skipped 1983 and came out with the C4 in 1984. This is a great example though...
Sweet I love that car how much for the car
Was bought a day after I was born lol
The books are very important
give me a bottom line number????????
Nice car suriname what was the prise
