  • I added a 1980 C3 Corvette to the garage. This Vette has 57k original miles, and has been fairly well taken care of. The previous owner owned it for 7 years, and didn't drive it too much, as is typical with Corvette owners.
    He had purchased it from Mecum Auction in Kansas City, which I thought was pretty neat.
    The car doesn't have too many issues that need to be sorted out, but it does have a few things. Nothing too serious, so it should be an easy list to check off.
    I've now owned the Vette for 1 month, so I've had time to become familiar with the car, and I've put a little over 200 miles on the odometer.
    This is a new favorite of mine, so I look forward to doing more with this beautiful 80's time capsule.

    I have a 1980 Corvette like yours, smoked glass tops. It is a factory 4 speed manual car. The thing about my car was the rod hanging out the side of the block. So it has a ZZ4 custom build at 455 HP. The paint and interior are perfect. Vacuum headlights gone, went to electric. Side pipes and slowly working on some other things. My car built in St Louis as well. I have 2 red dice with black dots. My car is red on red as well.

    I too had a 1980 Red over Red Corvette, I bought used in 1981 in Overland Park, with 12K miles on it. It was an L-82 with glass t-tops and I loved it. My wife would get caustraphobia with all the red, so when it was time to buy a house a couple years later, we rationalized selling it to better afford the house payment. I still have the wife, but I really miss that car!

      @tim hawes That's pretty cool. I did something similar with my 2002 WS6. Sold it so we could have a bigger down payment on a home we were buying. Nice thing is, if I wanted, I can always buy another car. LOL .

    This is by far my favorite body style of the classic corvettes. I know it's not as valued as a split window, nor as fast as an L88 but what you do get is the worry free guilt free ability to drive it whenever/wherever you like and wasn't that the point of the car! It seems like the aforementioned two when I do see them , it's always at a show or as a majestic garage queen so it's great to see them on the road.

    • @RobsGarageKC
      @RobsGarageKC  Год назад +2

      100% agree with you. It has iconic Body Lines, and isn't at a price point where you're too nervous to drive it. I'm always a fan of driving everything that I have. Nothing is here to be a show Queen. I was chatting with a guy that had a six-figure C2, and he said he drives it in the winter. LOL

    Love the vette! I own a ‘81 4-Speed manual but it’s nowhere near as pristine as yours. Haven’t driven it since I graduated college and had my first kid, but with more time and money in my hands I’ll finally be able to do a restoration on it, cheers🍻

    • @RobsGarageKC
      @RobsGarageKC  2 года назад

      Nice... A manual would have been great, but while searching I would find either more restoration needed than I wanted to commit to, or higher dollar asking prices than I was wanting to spend. On the bright side, my wife can drive the C3 if needed. She can drive a manual, but not well.

  • @sootmann
    @sootmann Год назад +3

    Great job on this! This is almost my ideal spec. I love the slotted wheels. I'm hoping to find an '80 in white. Awesome that this was built in Missouri and is still there. On the L48/L82 -- they are the same size engines (350ci/5.7L) but the L82 has a little higher compression and a few other differences, and makes a bit more power. (About 230 vs 200 in 1980.) In 1980, the L82 was only available with an automatic. The L48 could be had with an automatic or a 4-speed manual, which is what I'd prefer, even though it makes less power.

    Hey Rob, Cool Thanks for sharing your C-3. As in all older cars seal's, window trim, etc. tend to go at some point. The fun is in replacing stuff that you can do, and maybe finding a good shop for the stuff you don't feel happy about tackling. I understand how you feel about trying to stay stock. Your car looks great as is. What a trip about the build location, couldn't get any closer to home! I picked up a C-4 with low mileage that also was close to home. Seller wise so I could check out what needed going through maintenance wise. The price was right, so I had an idea what I was getting into. Found a lot of online parts but some stuff is old stuff that there's no way around it. Staying stock too unless stuck with aftermarket parts. I've had new parts that are rubbish. Meaning replacing 2 or 3 times, same part! bought from different locations hopeful not to repeat getting a bad part. Oh, the fun sometimes. Well, enough grumbling! Hope you can put out some updates as you go. Look forward to seeing what you find along your journey with your C-3.

    Hey Rob, great looking car! I too have a 1980 Corvette, L-48, manual which I picked up in early 2018 and I have to say..... she is such a reliable car. We live in the NYC area and during the height of the lockdown for the pandemic. My wife and I would steal some time from the kids, family, etc..... and take the T-Tops off and cruise on ocean hwy (the hwy rides along the southern most point on long island) with great views of the ocean and the hope that our world would return to some sense of normalcy. Pardon, I digress. I too have had some small leaks, specifically coming from the timing cover, but since she does get driven, the oil level always seems to be topped off. My plan is to take the original L-48, which has roughly 215 BHP (previous owner had added headers and true dual exhaust with really good mufflers and see if I can change the pistons, cam and get some more air into the motor. Once again, great car! Good luck and ride safe!

    Great looking C3 Rob...the C3 generation is my favorite having owned 5. Currently my Red 81 with black leather interior and glass tops is going thru an upgrade.. the sky is the limit with aftermarket options and to each his own on their interpretation. I'm upgrading to fuel injection, black side pipes and headers, new steering, serpentine belt, complete upgrade on the brake system, new a/c ,custom valve covers and breather, and a factory spec painted big block hood that looks killer... leaving the factory wheels though! Plan on a few out of state corvette weekends and local cars and coffee weekends to show it off... will look forward to seeing upcoming videos!

      nothing special about the car itself, but it was because there really wasn't anything else hi performance in the US at that time, including foreign cars...it was just tape stripes and velour upholstery. If you looked hard enough you could still get a T/A with a real 400 engine and a 4speed, but all big blocks were gone, and the Z28 was not a fast car....so the corvette and the T/A were about it.

    Hi, for your problem it could be the headlight switch, but also look for a 7amp fuse inst panel on the fuse box along with the turn tail 20 amp fuse both do work complete a circuit, also it could be the panel instrument panel groung located under left side kick panel. if your fuses are not broken and the ground is good then it could be your switch.
