HONEST Product Reviews are Important - Whether by Me or MKBHD

  • Honest product reviews are very important in my opinion. MKBHD has sparked a lot of discussion with his recent reviews of the Fisker Ocean and Humane AI Pin. Marques gave his honest, negative, feedback about the products and people are saying he shouldn't have been so harsh. I disagree. I think MKBHD has a responsibility, as do all of us, to be honest with our reviews. I applaud Marques for providing honest reviews. Check out the video and let me know what you think. Thanks for watching!

    I'm amazed that anyone would say that reviewers should pull punches. The only things that being easy on products in reviews does is screw over customers and fill the pockets of VC investors.

    100% agree. When you look at the chatter, the only people who are shaming MKBHD are mostly other media outlets and creators. They might be afraid he might ruin their gravy train. Most people didn’t give it a second thought until videos or stories began circulating. Ad revenue is peanuts. There is so MUCH money in product reviews and sponsorship deals with plenty of shenanigans behind the scenes. All expense paid trips to exotic locations, huge payments and free products. Companies are ruthless about messaging. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if nervous companies have their most faithful influencers out spinning this nonsense.

    Agree wholeheartedly. Some companies deserve to fail. Build a better mousetrap.

      Yeah the products speak for themselves. If someone gives an honest review and it has detrimental effects, that's what happens when you bring a low quality product to market.

    I agree, reviews should be honest without bias toward affiliations.
    However i was bugged by the titles MKBHD decided to choose for the videos.
    Other reviewers explaining the same things were more conservative.
    I felt he was already influencing the direction by the title.
    Even if the product is pure crap, the viewers should decide after the facts are exposed.
    His opinion has weight 😅 with millions of subscribers (not counting casual viewers)

      Yeah I definitely get that. I saw an interview where he admitted the title was a little clickbaity, but ultimately it was honest. But yeah I can see that. His opinion has a lot of weight. And if people don't watch the entire video and just go based on the title, it paints a pretty bad picture. I saw mrwhostheboss had a similar review of the Humane AI Pin. His title was "I tested the Humane AI Pin - It's not good". Not as harsh, but conveys the same basic message.

      It seems relatively equal: “the Humane AI Pin solves nothing and makes me feel stupid@-Endgadget,
      “Total scam” the WORST tech”-This is “SCAM! What are these companies hiding” Dave2D “Humane’s AI Pin is not ready for prime time”-CNET. Of course the Verge kicked it off with a scathing review!

      Yep I've seen a lot of negative reviews about it.

      @@TechnicallyJeff Indeed i also saw the mrwhostheboss review.
      They do need to be honest but the catch phrase could be less agressive.
      That’s already a big achirvement to bring a product to market.

    • @TechnicallyJeff
      @TechnicallyJeff  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I can see both sides there. As someone who posts on youtube, I know how much of an impact the title of a video has on it's click through rate. But yeah I agree for a startup to bring something like that to market, it's a solid achievement.

    MKBHD lost some cred with me over the Ford Lightning. He got the opportunity to test it and speculated it had over 300 miles range which circulated the rumor mill and then never corrected himself. Also, when he reviewed superbowl commercials for 2022 he didn't know who Austin Powers was. Can't trust him lol.

    • @TechnicallyJeff
      @TechnicallyJeff  5 месяцев назад

      Doesn't the lightning ER get 300+ in mixed driving? And whaaaat? Lol who doesn't know Austin Powers

    • @TyTyMcGinty
      @TyTyMcGinty 5 месяцев назад

      @@TechnicallyJeff If I recall correctly his estimation was in the 400 range. The dash was showing some skewed numbers and it led him to believe Ford was underpromising and over delivering.

      Ohhh I do remember something like that. Good point. I haven't seen him review much else about the lightning.
