My friend and I listened to Sheik Yerbouti album in 79, we were only 16, just started working a year before. Since then, have done a lot of Frank Zappa looks on the googles. Wow, don't know if it's true but did Bob Dylan really approach him or is that BS.

I love how Aynsley Dunbar slows down at the end of the brass part and then kicks back in to the march beat when it kicks back into full gear. Great drumming on a very long piece.
Everbody knows who everybody is now 'past their original hey-day' due to digital technology we're using here and now. Just ONE example; 'HEARING FOR THE FIRST TIME' exposure videos on RUclips, crossing race, cultural and international lines. So no,MORE ppl. now know AND rate/appreciate who AYNSLEY DUNBAR is than ever before because of it. Afterall you and I are seeing/hearing new stuff too. ✌️❤
I think it was a guy using a pseudonym of "Erroneous" whose name was some Eastern European pronunciaton. It's online if you look for the players. Fowler came later in the 70s.
Well, you only have 350 more years to go. George's playing music that has been handed down to him (from his ancestors). His playing is unique mix of ________.
I love the anachronistic image of Norman Knights alongside their Ceasar-Pharoh weaponizing brass instruments to torment string-instrument wielding Achaemenid Immortals in the ruined outskirts of both Ancient Rome and post Byzantine Constantinople simultaneously XD
In the liner notes (which I know only us old people who had the actual LP know) the stroyline of the Grand Wazoo included a part where the band leader hits a great note in the middle of the battle (again you have to see the album cover to understand this). But when Frank hits that one note after an interlude here I always think of that part of the story.
love Love LOVE this song! I'm a big Ancient Rome history buff, and I get chills every time around the 6:10 mark when the Triumphal Horns (best way I can describe it) kick in. I picture a victorious Roman General on a chariot coming through an arch on his victory parade (Triumph) when I hear that part. Glorious!
Concept of the album reminds me of the old New Orleans "Mash Up" were you would start playing in the street gathering musicians as you went along then you would run into another band doing the same thing playing a different song...one song would prevail and they would join the other band to continue to march on....
Song inspired Steely Dan "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" (from 1974 "Pretzel Logic") at the beginning of the song!!! The Rikki song at the beginning NOT found on the ABC 45 stereo single!!
Aynsley Dunbar is just a fantastic drummer. He is the right guy for this time in Franks music, perfectly suited. I also like the way the drums are mixed, up front, driving the music forward. Been listening to Zappa a long time, first album, Chunga's Revenge 1970.

So What is Life? if is not a gift. A present, past, and future... what is life living in fear... and the inner boundaries? Woman respect and how to become a gentleman and not a gentle maniac? Childhood watch and care, not OVERWATCH. Overprotective infringement could lead to unwanted results, and some rules are meant to be respected and not to play with, Listen to whatsoever is needed to build your inner temple but don't lose yourself in the path of becoming what you really like and then rethink what you could achieve. Achieving is important but not as much as the wick lesson of how to overcome loss and the incredible neutral path that is vastly unexplored.

I had my 9 year old son listen to this as an example of the representation on the Album with the peaceful playful ‘nonfrontational’ Muse- ic . NAD plus Revox Sound helped.
I can listen to George Duke play a slightly over-modulated Rhodes piano all day!!!
Hi John. I'm not a musician and I don't know much, but I read that he doubled on Rhodes and Wurlitzer in the intro
But yes - me too.
Still one of the best musical passages of all time

Frank Zappa was big on riffs. He once said that the riff from Sabbath’s ‘Supernaut’ was his favorite

Aynsley Dunbar is a seriously underrated drummer.
Underated by who? But yes, he should be a household name!
No he isn't.
Everyone knows John Bonham. Neil Peart. Ringo. Even that hack Travis Barker is more well known. Nobody knows who Dunbar is aside from you and I.

If he played with Frank then he was not underrated, the most overused word on RUclips.
Frank is without question the most prolific composer/musician in the history of recorded/live music...
so true
A drummers delight. Dig the trippy thumbnail.
Tom Fowler killing the bass here!
When isn't he?! The live in Stockholm for does duprees Paradise he is so in

What an entry by Frank at 03:15 ! A wonderful classic with fantastic solos. TGW is one of my all-time favorite albums of Frank.
