BEETLEJUICE (1988) MOVIE REACTION *First Time Watching*

- Thanks for watching along with me!
This movie was super fun! Sometimes you've just got to sit back and enjoy the ride which is exactly what I did with this film. Tim Burton is so creative and always has this dark, edgy and whacky feel to his movies (at least the ones I've seen) which I really love. Michael Keaton was absolutely brilliant; he played the twisted, perverted, menace Beetlejuice so well!

"I'm NOT your coach... He survived!"
It's pretty simple with this movie.... If you have a imagination you'll love it..... If you don't... You won't.
Love the ending of this, the dead couple get a daughter, she gets attentive parents, very wholesome.
This is the best reaction so far i've seen of Beetlejuice. There have been some reactions that took this movie way too seriously and complained about the amount of dark humour which is really rather stupid considering this is a black comedy fantasy about the afterlife haha. So thank you for getting the humour. It was the production Company that changed the name on the movie poster from Betelgeuse to Beetlejuice because they were worried people would pronounce it wrong just like Adam did in the movie. Betelgeuse is the second brightest star in the constellation Orion. Classified as a Red SuperGiant Star so when you look at it even without a telescope you can see a faint redness to it. The screenwriter Michael McDowell came across it and thought the name was very unusual so he used it when he wrote the screenplay because he liked the sound of it for the Antagonist of the story.
Damn! Broke it down to a pulp...Still great review.😁😂😅
Dark humor was SO much more common back in the day. We saw flicks in the cinema routinely that would send folks running for the exits in 2022.
Adam: What are your qualifications?
Beetlejuice: Ah, well, I attended Juliard. I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I traveled quite extensively. I lived through the black plague, and I had a pretty good time during that. I've seen "The Exorcist" JUST ABOUT 167 TIMES! AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT! NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY! NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?! 🤣
Ty so much! 😢
But can you be scary?
Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified?
18:11 “NICE F***ING MODEL! (Honk honk)” my favourite line 😂😂😂
This movie was so iconic because Tim Burton went on to direct batman 1989 and if this movie wasn’t successful he wouldn’t direct batman and Michael Keaton would have not be batman. Still one of my favourite Tim Burton films.
Learn to throw your voice, Fool your friends, Fun at parties!!
Its was great to see how much you enjoyed the beetlejuice character.
He is the ghost with the most
The first time I saw this movie I fell in love with Winona Ryder. I thought she was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen 😍. The fact that she's a little quirky too is just icing on the cake 🎂 🥮.
Yes, she was big in the day.
Great Reaction Eve. This is one if my favorite 80s comedies...In case you didn't know, there was also a 'Bettlejuice' Saturday morning animated cartoon series that came out in the late 80s/early 90s that lasted for several seasons that acted like a sort-of sequel to the movie, featuring Bettlejuice and Lydia (voiced by different actors for course. The new voice actors do a good job imitating Keaton and Rider as well as expanding on their characters lore) as they both have many adventures and misadventures in netherworld, underworld and the real world as they deal with all kinds of ghosts, goblins and other weird creatures and also having to fix many of Bettlejuice's shenanigans that go wrong or too far. It also features many character cameos from the film in various episodes as well. Tim Burton was the executive producer for the entire series and Danny Elfman return to do an update on the Bettlejuice theme and compose new music for several episodes. The entire series is available on DVD and it is a good watch in my opinion...😁✌️
I wouldn't exactly call 4 seasons several.
@@SkitSkat674 I would. But this is a really weird thing to nit-pick considering the world several isn't a distinct number. Its just anything that's more than 2 and less than what someone would consider to be many or a lot of things. So four falls well within the meaning of the word.
It's an acquired taste it seems, based on the reactors I've seen do this movie. But I love this one. Michael Keaton is amazing and surprisingly hilarious.
_"Wottt??"_ 😆 ...I love Britishisms.
Tim Burton at the top of his game with a grand ensemble cast and the incomparable Michael Keaton (who won the NY Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor for this and a dark drama CLEAN AND SOBER in 1988; you s/check that out to see how truly versatile an actor he is).
12:38- Danny Elfman's absolute MASTER CLASS soundtrack... 😎
28:56 a reference to the 1928 movie *Faust* by F.W. Murnau.
They are on Saturn when they leave the house, that's why so much time passes when they go there "You were gone for 2 hours!"
One of my favourite films:saw SEVEN times on original cinema release and many times since💜💜👍🎩
Night Shift and
Mr. Mom are two Michael Keaton comedies that would be wonderful for you to watch.
I thoroughly enjoy watching your reactions! I hope to see many more. :)
Written and directed by Tim Burton starring Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as married couple celebrating their vacation when they die in a car accident. Thus allowing for another family to move in
I believe they were having a stay-cation, where you just stay at home.
"It's showtime!"
Betelgeuse, the character, is named after the red giant star in the shoulder of the constellation Orion. It is the star most likely to explode in ou lifetime...in a huge supernova.
The movie studio insisted that the name be changed to Beetlejuice for the sake of the poster...they were afraid that people wouldn't be able to pronounce the name of the movie otherwise.
Always wondered what the lost souls room was. Love that sequence.
I love this movie, very fun to watch, hilarious and Michael Keaton killed it aa BeetleJuice.
BTW, *SEQUEL IN DEVELOPMENT* 😎
Michael Keaton tipped me $20 yesterday - lol.
I bet that you'd love " mockumentaries"
A Mighty Wind and Best in Show are two of the best with Catherine O'Hara ( the stepmother in Beetlejuice) .
Great reaction to this childhood movie of mine. Haven’t seen this in a long time.
Harry Belafonte, excellent choice 👌 👏 👍 😀 😎.
I was lucky enough to grow up with this movie as a little kid 😎😅
Betelgeuse is named after the star of the same name. It's spelt differently in the title because people wouldn't know how to pronounce it.
Betelgeuse is actually a star. This is the proper spelling but the proper pronunciation (in America anyway) is Beetlejuice.
Love your accent eve.. jus saying :)
Watched your video a couple times eve jus to get your viewers up.. and because it's a great reaction :)
I heard that part 2 is going to be made .🐛🐛
Otho thought he was performing a séance, when he was actually accidently performing an exorcism.
The mom in this movie also was Sally and Shock. In A Nightmare Before Christmas
And her helper Otho played the Mayor in A Nightmare Before Christmas
Hahaha Michael Keaton rules as Beetlejuice. Looking forward to the new Batman movie with him back.
Great movie. Also made a great musical, strangely enough.
I love the beat hes the best. He was my roll mode growing up. Might explain why im single.
I did like this reaction by the way. Young adults now seem to get confused by the tone of this movie but you pretty much got it.
As you could imagine, they didn't want to title this film "Betelgeuse" because no one would've known how to say it. It works though because of the game of charades they play the clues are "beetle" and "juice".
By the way the effects you mention briefly earlier in the reaction are stop motion. And it is beautiful stop motion at that. It's such a shame that because cgi has completely taken over today because it's easier, people look at something like this and think it's shoddy.
Drop Dead Fred is a funny one
This came out when my brother and I were 4-5 and we ended up obsessed with it when we were like 8-10 after the video had been out on VHS and we rewatched it probably 100 times. Literally, the tape got warped from watching it so much.
Anyway - we would rewind and rewatch the "Nice fucking model! *honk honk*" part over and over again because it was (and still is) one of the most hilarious things for some reason. We would do it (physically act out that part) all the time too - I believe it's one of the first times I got in trouble for saying "fucking" outloud in front of my mom. 😂
This movie came out when I was 2yo but I remember getting the little action figures up until age 9 or 10. Weird that nothing much became of this IP aside from the cartoon. I think there was a musical and maybe a discount-dvd-bin sequel or something but thats it. Also Kathleen O'Hara is drop dead gorgeous.
I don't think many notice the for sale sign says Sold at the top
I never realized the Mayor of Chicago had her own movie!!!! 😅😀😅
I loved your reaction
Ayyy a movie! I’m a new follower but I love your genuine reactions.
movie studios in the 80s seemed to be pointing us to a certain point in the cosmos for some cosmic reason, maybe aliens from there seeded our planet with life, there was universal studios, Orion Pictures, Tri Star pictures (referring to Orion's belt made of three stars) and then out of nowhere a ghost movie called Betelgeuse a specific star in the constellation of Orion, if i was deciphering a treasure map, then Betelgeuse must be where X marks the spot
If you want to see another good Keaton movie that's off the beaten track, try watching The Dream Team.
It's always been one of my favorites
quick question. Why did you not get a fake front tooth the same colour as the other? one is pearl white and one is yellow. Which is the fake? and why did you not get them to match?
Hahaha so much for a quick question, there’s about 3 in there 😅 what can I say, I was born with different colour teeth? Maybe something to do with the enamel? I’m sure we can agree that all teeth are different… but yeah I don’t know, I’m not a dentist. The real question is why you’re asking questions about someone else’s teeth? 😂
Awesome reaction. The movie was such a hit that a subsequent cartoon was made.
You should watch PeeWees Big Adventure. It’s a Tim Burton classic and cult fave. Nobody is reacting to it. You should give it a go.
I second this!
Beetlejuice vs the mask who would win?
Love this reaction channel! More please! 🙏
I wonder where a guy...an everyday Joe like myself...could get a little action?
Love your reactions Eve 😄😄 xx
Thank you xx
Eve, are you interested in watching tarzan the fearless? It's a movie on RUclips
Great video, keep it up. Maybe check out Barton Fink, the best coen brothers movie know one herd of.
I found it a bit meh, but to each their own.
Fun hearing Harry Belafonte. I have not heard these songs in years.
I am the ghost with the most, babe. 😀
Great choice! Love this movie!
Eve, great reaction! So much fun! I saw your excellent "12 Angry Men" reaction....and now this! Really excited to see what you watch in the future. You mentioned the Tim Burton movies you've seen. My favorite is "Ed Wood" (which is a true story). Definitely pop that one on your list! Really loved revisiting this fun movie with you; to be honest, I've taken it a little for granted, and a reaction like this reminds me of how fun it is. ANY chance to see Catherine O'Hara is precious (for a good time, go search out any of her work on SCTV, which is STILL what I think of when I think of her, or any of the others from that show.) Thanks, Eve!!!!
@Ontario&theLetterZed ....and Andrea Martin, Harold Ramis, Joe Flahtery.....fantastic show, although it is basically parodying the TV and movies of the day, not sure how it holds up to someone who doesn't know older movies/TV shows.
When Eve started dancing, I felt that :dancing emoji:
🥰💃🏽
@@EveReacts Hi I am Scott. i just want to say that your reaction videos are awesome. i got a clip of this girl peeing and i will tell ya she really had to go lol. kinda funny because she keeps going and going. just curious to know if you would show your reaction to it for fun. Here's the link if interested. Tom Hanks ain't got nothin on me480p H 264 AAC - RUclips
We come for your daughter chuck…
Can you react to the "Rush hour" franchise and also 1996's movie with Demi Moore "Striptease" please ?
You should react to squid games
"Why are her legs like that?" She's running quickly down the steep stairs of an old house. She's angling her feet so she can descend quickly. It's nothing weird.
Just looked strange 😅
@@EveReacts Also, she's six feet tall, so she has to angle her feet so they fit on the steps. I had a female friend who was that tall when I was a teenager, so tiny little me knows these things. 😊
Your eyes are gorgeous
Geena Davis is so gorgeous - and honestly, I'm staight but who isn't attracted to Alec Baldwin lol
i know it's a chick movie and i kbnow that reacting to the 80's classics attracks more viewers to your channel , but please react to pride and prejudice with kiera nightly and mathew mcfayden.
There is a reactor called Popcorn in Bed who react to different categories, classics, horror, comedy or sports so it goes around rather than just certain eras of films which it seems many vote for the same series of films.. Quite smart IMHO.
She is great because she has shunned horror movies all her life so waching her react to the Thing, etc is hilarious, but she would probably love a period drama.
Did you know there's a Beetlejuice musical on Broadway, Eve? I wanted to see it, but it closed before the pandemic hit, but now that Broadway is back they're bringing the show back. I kinda want to see it next time I'm in New York..
But Betelgeuse is a real star, and the constellation of Orion needs to be seen and known.
But it may not be visible from the southern hemisphere.
Are we gonna seriously ignore the glorification of Beetlejuice's crush on Lydia? Like. Ew. He's a literal predator and the fact that they made a Broadway musical, and that people like making Halloween costumes out of this story about a child toucher bothers me...
Who tf is glorifying it? I'm fairly certain every single person who watches this movie is aware of how overtly creepy that is. Beetlejuice (the character) is set up to be a massive creep and perv, that's part of his character. And Beetlejuice (the film) is a dark comedy, emphasis on the "dark" part.
Also if you're so grossed out and bothered by it, why did you click on the video?
I commented because people don't seem to be aware of the problem, I watched this a lot when I was young and now I'm an adult and realize he's actually a predator. He's trying to MARRY a TEENAGER. Are you implying that you support child predators? If she wasn't underage then I wouldn't be criticizing it. People dressing up as him and going to see the Broadway show don't seem to realize that in real life he would be in jail. That's why I'm happy the cartoon version changed him so he didn't want to marry her.
TAO
What's the matter with you?
I saw this in the movie theater and we all walked out of this trash across the hall to another movie. It's horrible.
And what was that other movie lol?
@@checkoutmyyoutubepageDie Hard ... My friends were ushers there, so we just stayed for the next showing to watch it again in full. Now that was a great movie!
