100% agree with supporting Indie Devs. If they make a good game, they should be given all the support they need to grow, and hopefully become an ethical and awesome big time game dev, that cares about the experience over the profit. And there's only one good way to incentivize that.
yeahh i can appreciate poncle making it so that people can play a game like magic survival on pc. though i can't tell if this is inspired, coincidence, or a copy.

Concerned Ape imo is the best indie dev, that man knows how to listen to what the audience wants rather than capitalize on what he has. He made me respect indie devs to a whole new level.

Vampire Survivors were the best 3 bucks I spent in a looong time. It's an awesome game to vent some steam for a few minutes and also it's quite addictive to be honest ... 18h in and still loving it :)
I can't believe that a smol arcade that costs $3 blew up so quickly. Well I know why due to the fact that it's a reverse bullet hell! My favorite weapon would be the king bible. It's useless at first, but by the end, you become the human buzzsaw!

There is not so many items at the moment, so synergy is not that bad. You can have 6 out of 17 weapons, and 6 out of 14 items, and half of them you need to unlock. So I say that it's really easy to find a lot of them in couple runs.
Edit: Also game tells you in achievements what weapons can evolve, so if you looking for synergies you just pick those up, and try different combinations of items.

Edit: I really like this game. I hope its updated soon and that we get another vid on it. Like maybe if they add an infinite mode where it doesn't end you at 30 min and you just survive as long as possible.

Theres a *v e r y* similar game: magic survival in which every 5 levels of a upgrade you can give a ability a perk, bit more strategy than this game i think

early game scaling is the key to this game. you need to kill things fast in the beggining (true targeted weapons like the whip) if you scale fast early, you keep scaling. if you start gettign behind, you just get chruched. perticularly on the forest level
Garlic is actually godlike for early damage, cause it one shots the first 2 enemy types outright, so you can just bulldoze through them all and level REALLY fast!
Honestly, just getting 4-6 evolved weapons is what you have to do. That really takes priority over everything. Get the extra attack relic and attractorb and you're set.
@@TheHero0538 i keep underestimating garlic, think i focus a bit to much om the evolutions. Garlic is for sure op at the start
@@eirikarnesen9691 king bible is literally a better version of garlic because it scales so much better and is close to garlic in early game effectiveness. Evolved weapons and laurel/clock/pentagram is really the way to go.
@@homesinc garlic is super good for the first few minutes and let's you constantly get all the xp and helps you accelerate into leveled weapons faster. Bible isn't consistent like Garlic so it's not nearly as good in the early game.
some things to note about the game is that you cannot evolve items by leveling up (only chests) and chests are guaranteed to evolve items if you meet the requirements
One of the requirements is some time on the clock, best estimate is the 10:00 mark. For all evolutions, all weapons involved must be max level, while any passives involved can be any level.
And the evolution pairs are not hidden synergies but can be checked in the escape menue

If you like the feeling of infinitely stacking power then i highly reccomemd risk of rain 2. Or risk of rain 1 if the third person shooter aspect doesnt float your boat.

@@Onion_wavy a third person shooter roguelite where the goal is to proceed through levels killing enemies, purchasing chests that give items, and killing bosses to escape the planet you have crashed on. Unlike games like Binding of Isaac or Enter the gungeon, risk of rain 2 lets you stack items infinitely (or until the game crashes).
In fact, stacking items is more valuable than getting a new item that may not be as useful to you.
@@Onion_wavy -- Think Borderlands gameplay, but with LBALL upgrades instead of looting guns, highly customizable difficulty, visuals and lore on the level of Hollow Knight, and a fantastic soundtrack!
Risk of Rain shares many great qualities with Slay the Spire, but instead of a planning game, it's more of a run 'n gun, do your best not to get outscaled game like what Tyler was playing in the video. The endgame can get insane because you can decide to go back to the first level to get more upgrades. The enemies still scale too, and big numbers start to get swingy, but it's a roguelike, death is part of the game!

The Evolved weapons only drop from chests dropped after the 10 minute mark. You can't get them from level upgrades
No it’s all chests, but you usually don’t meet the requirements until around ten minutes. I evolved at four minutes once. Got really lucky with the level ups
the gameplay style of this game is very similar to a game on my phone called Magic Survival. The main difference between the two is that the max level for most abilities is level 6 with a special upgrade at level 3 & 6, When you reach max level on 2 specific abilities you can fuse the 2 to make a better one, late game it gets hard to level up like 1-2 min per level, and there is no limit on how long you can last.
Yeah, I used to play that game too! What’s your best time? My best time is around 55 minutes

I just wanted to comment that, i think magic survival actually has better upgrade mechanics, especially with the fusing, while this game has better enemy variety. But yeah the translation has been fucked for quite some time now, still waiting for the dev to fix it :(
@@Trialer Definitely above 40 minutes but I can't remember exactly and I can't check because there was a recent Android System update and ever since I can't open the game without it crashing before I can get to the home screen

There's actually a neat mobile roguelike game in a similar vein called Magic Survival
It's free and while it has micto transactions they're not necessary at all to beat the game, jist be warned that the english translation isn't the best so I reccomend consulting the wiki
This is really similar to a mobile game I've been playing called Magic Survival. But this one just seems like a fun time while that is a literal fight to not die a horrible death every second.
Some key differences:
- MS expects you to go on for 50 to complete levels. (which I have yet to do for any, most I have is 47:48[ouch])
- All the upgrades are much weaker. (except for barrier, barrier is the best)
- The game has a higher reliance on luck, as enemies give you minimal exp and you often rely on randomly spawned exp orbs.
- Items are gotten from chests instead of upgrades, these spawn randomly, and will determine if you can survive a minute beyond the thirty minute mark. They are really powerful. (like Timestop every 20 seconds [which he called weak???] or Uranium 30% attack up for -0.3% hp regen[I think?])
- The game is faster paced with faster enemies and more reliance on dodging them. (or that's how I've played it, because...)
- Hp upgrades are basically trash. (other than regen. Hp/defense upgrades don't up your damage capacity, so you just get swamped and die)
- Enemy difficulty is much higher. They don't get knocked back, they have a lot of hp at times, can pretty much oneshot you (look at previous section), and there's still almost as many as in this game.
- Meta currency is hard to come by, and you need a lot of it. All the meta upgrades aren't that great.

That is a great mobile game tho, was expecting someone to refer to it here.
There is a machanic in magic survival taht is'nt in this one tho : with to maxed weapon u can fuse them and get an insane weapon, wich changes the game completly

Since the last post, I've actually realized it's better to have some health and that the phantom ability can pass through matter without being hit (unlike the phantom cloak item). I completed both of the 40 min levels now, so I'm still learning

Dude won in the forest. Never see videos of people winning forest. Library is easier, and allows for you to get two extra items after all your slots are full.
This new garlic early is extremely strong. You get so much more xp early that you're kinda set for the run
I like how NL still struggles with the go deep not wide to start but Tyler got it immediately

I can’t tell if you’re aiming your attacks or if it’s automatically targeting the closest enemies and your focus is movement, akin to snkrx

@@Aliensrock no worries! I think as the video went on and the attacks became more insane that was a little more clear, but it was hard to tell early on haha! Seems fun!
its a good game, really looking forward to more content. Took me 12 hours to beat all 4 gamemodes and get all achivements, but for 3-4 bucks its well worth it!
You've probably figured it out at this point, but you didnt get offered the tome because you dont have it unlocked from the library level
Bought this within the first few minutes of NL's initial video on it, really love the game, glad to see more creators bringing attention to it. You can't beat it for $3.
Issac is one of the few games that that has hidden synergize that are fun to find, mostly because its just "oh god I wonder how X item works with Y" like Brimstone and soymilk. Which with all the DLC installed, gives you a toggleable beam you can direct freely around the room.
This game gives me vibes from the flash erra games like orc assault and the sas zombie assault series. Good games, but their development got neglected.
Hey Tyler, might be a bit out of your normal comfort zone, but have you considered playing Rhythm Doctor? Cool indie rhythm game that's a pretty good and accessible rhythm game.
Beating an area unlocks a hyper version of the map there's also other characters unlocked by doing certain things.
saw this and instantly bought it. Turns out there is a whole new floor, as well as hyper variants for both, which make them harder. You unlock them with achievements.
Also, might save you a second, but you can right click to skip the chest cutscenes.
within the first few minutes of this video was enough to convince me to buy this game and i'm glad that i did, this is up there with one of my favorite games of all time
This is a cool concept, but it doesn’t feel like it has many different strategies to explore. It’s just upgrading damage and getting direct synergies. I love games like this, though. Play more loot based/collectible games, please

This made me buy the game and it's been like almost a week now with me playing it at least an hour and a half a day
once you get some permanent upgrades and learn how things work its not so bad, since it seems like my two biggest killers are entirely on me.
1: getting too used to how you moved last run/over your last couple of runs and screwing yourself over when you use a different playstyle, especially going from a character who barely needs to dodge to a frail build
2: just plain ol' overconfidence. once i literally had only 18 seconds left and probably could've managed it if i just hadn't been so cocky, because in the leadup i was crushing everything in sight and fancied myself unstoppable.
I can see this game being amazing in the future but right now after like 3 or maybe 4 runs I feel like you'd get bored of it since there is nothing new to discover. Also wished there was like a way of seeing if some items have a synergy with other items like some text appearing saying something like "This synergies with one of your items" would be cool, I'll consider trying it but I don't have that much money atm, we'll see how the game turns out

Hey Tyler, don’t know if there has been any updates or anything but I was really hoping that you could play luck be a landlord again. It’s one of my favourite series on your channel and what introduced me to you.
This game reminds me a bit of Novadrift - a game where you control a spaceship and your goal is to reach as high of a score as possible while getting swarmed by other spaceships + bosses. Very fun game, would 100% recommend

Hey! The weapons in this game are upgradeable but the game doesn't have actual tool tips or advice on what items need to be paired to upgrade.
Get the weapon to level 8 and the appropriate corresponding item, and the next boss chest will drop you an upgraded item.
Oh my goodness, can we get a Aliensrock x NL crossover? Sounds like a dream!

What not to like?
Ok: It is basically walking through a dull landscape without any highlights, story, riddles, role playing elements or npcs. Enemies are just walking in your direction, no intelligent or surprising behaviour at all. Graphics is like late 1980s. Winning depends mainly on the random items you find. It is repetitive and all in all a mind-numbing experience worse than grinding wild boars in WOW.

I find it fascinating that in a glance, you wouldn't think this game would semi-blow up. Kinda like games like Minecraft or Among Us(that said, it took them 2 years). It's like, it's hard to predict and I don't envy analytics people cause sometimes you just can't.
Not sure if the style of the game would be something you enjoy, but I would love seeing you try out The Binding of Isaac, it's a roguelike with different characters, progression, secrets, and a LOT more that I haven't discovered yet since I'm still kind of inexperienced, but it might be a game you would enjoy!

Maybe try Seedling. It's on Newgrounds, and it's a top-down adventure game with a good amount of puzzles. Pretty cathartic game, but it's not new.
Just made it through the library with Portus. Lightning, garlic, tome, time stopper thing, boomerang, armor, damage, energy shield thing build lol. Also got 3 duplicator bonuses.
With the astonishing amount of Totally Not Castlevania in this game (read: the whole damn thing basically), I'm surprised Konami hasn't risen from it's Pachinko Undeath to come after these devs.

I do get the feeling tho that uve already seen some of his stuff, i heard you talk about “watching inscryption videos where they showcased the true power of ouroboros” and that sounds like something he’s talked about in multiple vids. Now you’re playing this, which is another game he plays, have u seen his content or do you just both have good taste?
I know this is just the first video, but him sleeping on garlic (and it's evolution) hurt. I hope that changes in future videos in the playlist, lol.
This is just a worse Magic Survival, but for PC. Someone should've just ported that one on computers

My dad says I should throw it away, but I don't want to throw away a perfectly good book that I know someone else could use. Plus, even if I don't agree with what the bible says, I'm not just gonna trash a religious book without valid reason

horrifically similar to Magic Survival, a mobile game with practically the same concept

theres a whole bunch more thats similar that i cant put into words and Magic Survival came out or was at least in development 2 years ago
not saying "this game bad just stealing terrible" cause its basically just taking a new spin on what might just become a new sort of genre
there are a good amount differences with skills working differently, heroes/classes/whatever being very different, and namely just the style and platform that its on

The king Bible evolving was kinda underwhelming. You already had that Bible up all the time because of spell binder.

I'm not familiar with this game and I'm too lazy to look it up, but after 30 minutes I'm pretty sure I saw some sort of final boss and Tyler dying to them. Funny he didn't notice it
He talks about hidden synergies a lot at the beginning of the video, Thankfully, they added a level where you get all the armor relics and then you can just choose which weapons you want to see the evolved versions of, assuming they evolve via an armor relic.
There's actually a similar game on android called Magic Survival that was released back in 2019

My favorite combo is the garlic, king bible and the rainbow bird combo because you can essentially just stand still when they are all evolved
2:33 “spinach is one of the best upgrades in the game” i mean it’s true when he said it, but it hasn’t really aged the best with arcanas that just give you damage that can carry a run (at a cost) or near unlimited hp (given enough healing)
