This is the last operating system I think microsoft truly cared about, Hardly any processes, Very stable quick even on HDDs. If only it shipped with a start menu maybe things could of been different
I think maybe if they gave you an option to switch to a start menu and run metro apps in a window it would've been reviewed a lot better imo. though I guess that would've been windows 10 a few years too early
Yep. It was a very well running ans stable operating system. It was a good operating system overall, it just had a poor user interface for desktop users. Windows 10 on the other hand is a garbage operating system which is buggy, unstable, and has terrible resource optimization; even after being released for nearly a decade.
I have one tid-bit of information about hard-drives. At some point in windows 10, Microsoft did something to Windows that made it almost impossible to run on a Hard drive. From that point onward you HAD t have an SSD. And now, you actually kinda need an NVME since SSDs sometimes lacks the DRAM chip, and NVME chips at least runs so fast they don't need one. If not your windows will freeze between update downloads and installations (before the restart process). It's interesting because Windows 7, 8 and the first 3 years of 10 were pretty much fast and stable on HDDs, but something happened and now its impossible to use it. I believe there's so many things happening at once, and Windows is probably less optimized if compared to previous versions, it only works well on extremely fast Solid State Drives. Not only that but we also have our info being constantly stolen from us in each build. And windows 11 keeps pushing updates that ONLY gives us new Co Pilot features, which to mee are just a novelty. but yeah, it's insane how fast Windows 8 runs on HDD while Windows 10 and 11 are just downright impossible to run on a hard drive. I also love how the Task bar in Windows 8.1 have 50% transparency, while Windows 10 is about 15% and Windows 10 feels it's less than 5% if you add any color to your task bar. Also, me and I think 80% of Windows user base that upgraded to 8.1, were Desktop users, and Windows 8.1 works pretty damn well as a Desktop machine. The sole problem with it was the huge full screen Start menu, that MS only fixed with W10. Still, awesome system
This makes a lot of sense because my windows 10 laptop is running a HDD and is so slow but i only noticed a significant slowdown in 2021 and it become incredibly unusable in 2022 which forced me to try a macbook, i got a second macbook (2009 17") to put windows 10 on it for the softwares that are windows only and it works much faster especially as there is an SSD in it but even when i was waiting for my SSD to arrive my SSHD was working faster than the HDD so maybe even just an SSHD can be a slight improvement. Running Windows 10 on a 15 year old macbook made me enjoy using Windows 10 again hahaha
It was lightweight by default, very few background processes. My potato laptop was doing good with this os. Sad to see it got abandoned by chromium based browser on which i had to rely on. 😢
windows 8/8.1 was the OS on my daily driver from 2012 until i decided to build a desktop back in 2018. I've stopped using it in mid 2020, but i do have my old acer aspire e1. It's falling appart and it doesn't work that great anymore... still, Windows 8.1 is so nostalgic to me for a number of reasons
Except the metro ui i liked Windows 8. It's the first Microsoft OS that introduced the fast boot feature that exists in Windows 10 and 11 today, and it was way faster than 7 on both HDD and SSD
Builds of windows from vista/7-10 1809 were pretty dang fast, 1903 and above started to lack in terms of performance and were starting to have more bloatware moving on Even if you debloat, you would still notice a subtle delay compared to older builds like 1809
I'm "still" using Windows 8.1 as my daily driver. It's close enough to 7 but far enough from 10. So far everything significant has worked fine, I have Windows 10 in dualboot for Cities Skylines 2 and possibly other software in the future.
I only ran Windows 7 and later went on Windows 10. Microsoft decided to build a mobile operating system in Windows 8 and 8.1. Not for me. I’m an early adopter and these iterations of Windows weren’t to my taste.
Beautiful Windows 7 I tried doing it with that one let's say did not go well I just got stuck on starting Windows and I tried everything I tried custom drivers I tried custom isos I tried removing everything there and start up and it still does not work
In my honest opinion Windows 8.1 was underrated OS. I was using this system since 2013? The way that worked so smooth on my potato PC was so wonderful. It was weak 2 core Celeron E3400, 4Gigs of RAM and 512MB Radeon 5450 and of course poor Hitachi HDD 500GB. Windows 10 was lagging as hell and I can't even imagine, how poorly Windows 11 would work on it (bypassing it ofc). Holy crap I would give a lot to use that old system to this day. I don't know why people were hated this OS so hard.
Windows 8 is neat as someone who grew up with an Xbox 360 and an iPad. Funnily enough it's much nicer than 10 for gaming especially latency. And probably security. Because if you think about it, who is going to hack windows 8? Much less use it? A hacker won't go for windows 8. It's abandonware.
I had a PC with windows 8.1 phone January 10th 2023 it's support gets an end and unable to update the browsers.so I switched to windows 10 on August 20 2023. Windows 8.1 is a lightweight OS. Windows 10 take too much time to bootup because of hdd. Windows 8.1 is really fast on Hdd. After the support of windows 10.i switch to Linux mint.iam currently running dual boot with windows 10 and Linux mint.windows is very easy to use.but Linux is very light and much fast on bootup.
how can I get a copy of Windows 8? My mom's old laptop has been dead since my dad installed Windows 10 on it and couldn't get it to work. It won't boot and when you try to repair it it says that it can't. I want to get it working so we can see what kind of stuff she had on it
Neat vid, yeah very michael mjd vibes. not a bad thing tho. and myself, i would turn that little Lappy into a Batocera machine. Really not super useful for anything current. even with a old Clunker mech drive, Would prob do light PS2 Also the hanging issue is likely due to said Mech drive
i don't uderstand why you used 3-party drivers installer, in the end of 2023 on my pc all drivers were installed by windows itself through windows update.
Short answer is that you can't. Longer answer I won't get much into, so it'll be short as well, but you'd need an older chromebook and at that point it may not be worth it due to how underpowered they are. However, like the other person that replied said, there are plenty of tutorials and you'll need to find the one for your particular chromebook. I'd just find and buy a decent used windows laptop or a $100 deal for a brand new one. Both are everywhere if you look.
"All the 5 Windows 7 fans can rise up now!" Holy based Windows 7 user slander. Psssst get a quad-core 4th-gen i7 Thinkpad T440 for like $60-70 or a quad-core i7 Thinkpad T470-480 for $200 as your next laptop. It'll change your life. The trackpoint is something that must be used by at least every computer enthusiast.
Why? Like why when you know that internet explorer is slow old and dead you still prefer to Use it than Edge that is one of the dumb dissions Yes Microsoft edge is Let's say a browser but going form IE to Edge is a nice experience you could have still used edge
That’s really sad, windows 8 and 8.1 was the first operating system I experienced on a home PC, it brings back so many memories
