  • The shift cable bushing is a weak point for all S-series Saturns, 1993-2001, and needs to be replaced either with a new bushing or a set of new cables. A Dorman bushing cost $25 at Advance Auto, whereas a whole new set of cables from ATP (P/N Y-1511) cost $54.78 at Amazon. If you have the original cables from the factory still on your Saturn, check their condition and, preferably, replace them. A mechanic will probably charge something like two hours of labor to do the job for you, plus a mark-up on the part, equaling somewhere around $300-$500 in total for the complete job. Or do it yourself.

Great video, shows everything very clearly. I've been "tasked" with sorting out my wife's Mazda CX-5 - I'm only used to "north-south" engines, so your video explained to me how the shift cables work on east-west engines. The arrangement looks very similar to the Mazda. Many thanks!

I was getting crazy about how to disengage that cable from the steering wheel module assembly, .. and you simply 'pry it out' .. 😅😅😅😅😅, thx so much

You skipped a step. You didn't show the fitting new bushing over the ball end. Also, since that was the only part on yours that broke, you could have simply replaced that bushing and been done.

I have a 96 rav 4 and recently ad to replace my shifter cables. It's a manual transmission. The horizontal mount on the trani is not disengauging and needs to be pushed in manually for it to shift into 3rd 4th n 5th and reverse. Please advise

Do you know if this will fix rough shifting, like when I go from gear to gear it’s hard to pull the shift lever, and doesn’t go into gear smoothly.

I just attempted a job like this today on my 08 v6 accord.. I cant get the clip off the line that controls side movement. How do you get it off.? Lol ( for reference it was attached to the used unit I got and I need to take it off to place the cable into its slot then reattach) Its in an awkward place I can really only get one hand on it.
