    I have a 2004 Mazda 6 S for the past 20 years and still running. I can tell you also have the 3.0L V6 engine just like my car, but I am shocked that you have to replace the shift cables because I have everything original since I purchased my car brand new, but I had other services done as well. I have to get 3 new catalytic converters replaced when the car was under warranty at 38,000 miles, batteries every 5 years, 3 rack and pinion replacements where I would get bad leaks, a new alternator, and a polyurethane torque mount. I only have 143,700 miles on the car.

    Thank you for this video, it really helped me to know what I was looking for. I have a 2005 Mazda 6 and I completely agree with the 10mm swivel head ratchet wrench, and that insulation from over the mounting plate put up a good fight is now going to a landfill. What I did was to simply use some small bolt cutters to cut off the bad ends of the cables to pull right through the firewall, it made it much easier as they were bad anyhow.

      Glad it helped, cutting up the old cables is a smart play, thanks for the comment.

      My engine spun a bearing and cracked the block a few months later...was so mad that spent money for part. I wasn't taking it back out either.

    I have a 2012 mazda 2 and gear 2 4 and reverse is very hard to put into those gears but 1 3 5 is smooth. So got 1 bad cable. Mazda wanted $1,500 to replace them. $1,000 for cables and $500 labor.

    Hey man, thank you for this video. Btw, where did you get your shift knob?

    • @ven0msho
      @ven0msho  3 года назад

      Shift knob was a download from thingiverse that I 3D Printed. It prints in 3 pieces, the base (I printed in silver), the knob and the Batman logo insert. Not my model but it is nicely done.

    The issue I am facing is the bloody thing won’t register park, unless I wiggle it a bit. Also putting it in reverse it takes it time to clunk into reverse. Replacing the transmission cable (as its auto) will that fix my problem?

      hey im having similar issues, were you able to figure out whats wrong?

    • @awilly1991
      @awilly1991 2 года назад

      @@jwhit4075 hey mate, I think it depends on what the problem is. In my case.. it wasn’t engaging P at all.. so I adjusted the cable within the gear stick. Made it either lose or tight.. A absolute shit fight to do.. that didn’t work. Changed the cable completely.. still didn’t work. Replace the Neutral safety switch, and that made it worse. However, the new neutral safety switch I used was faulty. Then I gave up. So I think it’s the neutral safety switch mate. Do a bit of research on them, there are videos of how to change it etc… good luck.

      @@awilly1991 Thanks for the fast comment, I just had my transmission rebuilt 1 month ago, and now my park light in dash is never on and my car is no crank no start. the other lights (R,N,and D) are now coming on and off intermittently, jumping the car didnt help, and although it could be the starter i think it's most likely a problem from the new transmission rebuild. sorry to hear how tough of a problem this was for you.

    • @awilly1991
      @awilly1991 2 года назад

      @@jwhit4075 yeah mine wouldn’t start in P either because of the issue, you can start it in N though. I would take my car back to where ever the rebuild was done and lay it on them.
