Nice to see the debut of Heroes 4 on the channel! I've always seen Heroes 4 as a somewhat flawed masterpiece in the series. It does a lot of interesting new things, but due to the unfortunate production circumstances at the time, the game was rushed and some elements, such as the graphics and game balance, weren't as polished as in previous entries. The graphics are in that awkward transitional phase between 2D and 3D so a lot of the units don't look that great. However, the upside is that Heroes 4 has (in my opinion) the best and most memorable storytelling in the franchise, and arguably some of the best music as well (depending on one's personal tastes). Despite its flaws, I do fondly remember playing this game, and I do think it is enjoyable to play.
I could not agree more! People forget that Armageddons Blade and SoD made Heroes 3 so much better because of the time and energy spent in upgrading (all the more reason why we tell people not to get the Steam version), and so I am confident that if they had been given more time and resources that 4 would have truly been a gem with a bit more polishing. Lovely all around, and one of the funner playthroughs I have gotten to enjoy :)

I am looking so very forward to it! I have heard great things about it and I am prepared to play it as it shipped in the day and with the 5.5 mod to see the adjustments that the heroes community has made. It became a long one! This was filmed a few weeks ago, but because of its length I wanted to save it for a day like Thanksgiving in the Americas for the people that didn't want to watch football! It was a TON of fun and full of funny twists and turns :)

Ah man I want to say I liked the game but kind of like Beardedman8319 said, it's just off. I was biased against HoMM3 because I grew up on HoMM2 but your streaming style really changed my nostalgic tune to be more open-minded and I really love HoMM3 now (Norovo should be thanking you XD). I'm not sure if it's bias, the changed perspective, or mechanics but I just can't get with HoMM4, although the spells having little blurbs is Shakespearean-level awesome! 'I curse thee to only eat eels and henceforth be electrocuted and inflict minimum damage in combat because your tummy hurts!' Looking forward to the next one! As always, hope you and Phixfam are well and an early Merry Christmas :)
I appreciate the good vibes and the input there! Homm4 was very ambitious and bold. some of the changes might not have been appreciateted by the community in the end, but if it had not been so rushed in a desperate bid to keep the company floating I'm certain that the franchise would look a lot more like 4 than 3 today. Four is my favorite homm to this day by a wide margin.
Very ambitious! And I remember playing it near the time it came out and I didn't feel disappointed, but if you play the comparison game I suppose you'll always feel a bit at odds no matter what you're comparing. I mentioned elsewhere that H3 had time to get balance and changes with SoD and Armageddons Blade, imagine what could have happened here with more time :D So glad it's a fav or yours, the story telling here always makes me smile :)
Alright, so managed to find some time for this no matter what, because Heroes 4. Anyways, I'm about 1/2 in and here is some advice: when your hero is still so squishy, consider investing into Immortality potions. Yes, 1000 a pop, but hero survives . Also training combat maybe wih some magic resistance may go a long way for survivability. On an unrelated note, everytime the game mentioned Queen Emília, I always thought of my daughter, She too is Emilia. 🙂 Also this may be useful later, the G key is for thieves' guild, just like M is for marketplace.
Good stuff! Considering the cost of other units, 1000 in this game is actually pretty reasonable! I enjoy finding hotkeys and flying through maps quickly as well :) Awww I am so glad you have that tie to the order campaign, it's a wonderful name :) A fun playthrough and I appreciate the insights for the next one!
Uff, passing over necromancy all the time...sure, it looks like nothing much at first, but later on - albeit it takes some time - you raise ghosts and then vampires instead of skeletons after battle. Besides, your castle named Talsi made me chuckle. Map creators probably were just trying come up with something whatever, but there is actually a city with such name where I come from.
I am definitely missing a TON of nuance in this playthrough! It's been a long time since I played Heroes 4 and I am looking forward to making that change :) Ghosts and Vampires!! Yeah, that sounds like an opportunity I shouldn't be missing haha Cool! I have to believe that castle names and such things are purposeful choices, there was so much love and attention that went into this game. I would love to find more info from any Heroes developer at some point down the road to ask a question just like this one: why Talsi?
