I'm not defending the story of this breakup. I definitely think it makes zero sense in the long haul. For both Max and Chole, let alone what the obvious fans would've wanted for that final choice from the OG game to meant something. Unfortunately, when it comes to these type of choice making games however, in order for another game or sequel to happen, the gotta make some kinda rekons or something during the time gap periods so no matter what choices or ending to the previous game you made, the beginning of the new one still adds ups fine. Even if it'd definitely go against what you, the player would want, or even what the characters in the game would've done realistically. Big example here? Telltale's Walking Dead Series. As we all know, the 2nd game ended with multiple endings and having different possible outcomes, leaving Clementine's story totally up in the air on where she can go from there. Yet when the 3rd game, A New Frontier, was released, it all shown in flashbacks how Clem got to that point, regardless of the players personal ending. That's the exact same situation happening here with Max's story with Chloe. Believe me, it sucks. Especially for those players & fans who are truly invested with these types of characters & stories. But unfortunately it's a common trend with these types of games now adays.
That's actually pretty common. Most with abandonment issues believe that they WILL ALWAYS abandon, so they do it first because it'll hurt them less. It's a vicious cycle that they don't realize they perpetuate.
I think if a breakup scene is shown it’ll be the end of lis imo. Chloe did want to die btw and max respected her wishes, but still doesn’t change the fact that they 99% broke up the girls for money.
@@xnortheast1106 wdym nah? My comment didn’t age too poorly but could’ve aged a lot better. Have you seen the ending to lis 1 cuz you would understand why. Also apparently they were too scared or they didn’t care at all to do an argument scene with the girls. But it’s 100% clear that they broke up the duo for cash, it’s just disgusting imo
In Save Chloe Ending of Life is Strange 1, they said these lines. Chloe: "Max, I'll always be with you." Max: "Forever" Deck Nine: destroys their relationship for whatever reason. Edit: I personally chose the Sacrifice Chloe ending, but it's just a little disappointing for those who chose the opposite. This game would be better if it was only canon to the Sacrifice Chloe ending, but I suppose they had to find a way to make the branching choices relevant for that matter.
@@kelomorireal Had the developers wrote that their relationship meets the fan's expectations, people would react differently. The thing is, the first game touched a lot of people's hearts and of course fans would want to see their relationship go on if players chose to save Chloe, but Deck Nine chose this route as it thematically defeats the purpose of the sacrifices made in the first game. This would have been better if this game had been canon to the Sacrifice Chloe ending; however, it is still early to tell as there are more episodes to come, but that is just my opinion. I'm not hating the game. My expectations were just lowered.
Chloe wouldn't break up with Max over a letter or for any reason, she would never abandon Max. The worst part about this is that the entire plot of this game requires you to flirt with everyone. I feel like the company behind this game forces you to choose a romantic partner for Max just so you can get over Chloe, it's so absurd. The most frustrating thing is that our choices in the first game were for nothing, that whole thing about respecting both endings was all fake, they just wanted to gain engagement for the game.
Ehhhh I beg to differ, you're not really forced to flirt for one you can choose to be friends and at the end of the first game Chloe makes is very clear she wants you to sacrifice her and when you don't she looks upset while driving out of Arcadia. Also add the fact Max is kinda the reason her mom is gone and she can't change it no matter what now? Why wouldn't she feel some sort of resentment towards Max she's still grieving her Father now her mom and it could've been avoided? She feels like Max changed the course of history and she was SUPPOSED to die and that's true how could you not feel mentally checked out after knowing you're not only supposed to die but in another timeline you're paralyzed and that's the only way your family is together and your best friend/girlfriend is the one who decides your fate and everyone's fate at any given moment and she takes away the only thing that keeps your mom alive and she was already distant at times and ready to blame others this is 100% in character in my opinion it just doesn't match everyone's expectations because people still want them together which I understand completely
@@PsychothicFlare1 i agree in part, but i don't believe is true anger at Max, more like survivor's guild, she knows a whole town die so she could live. It was impossible that the choice wouldn't bring problems in their relationship in the future, but maybe is not that bad, maybe is not final either. Maybe you can stay faithful to her throughout the game just like Shepard could have remained faithful to their LI from the first Mass Effect in the second game. I believe they are just giving the players a somewhat valid reason to try out new people, but is just that, an option.
People with abadonment issues sometimes do that to avoid being the 1st one to be abandoned. That's how they cope to be in control of the situation. I tell you, I had a best friend with Borderline PD with severe abandonment issues. Just 1 relatively small misunderstanding could turn anything from 0 to 100. (I've been in mental health communities before as well)
@@zmx-jayy Yeah...that's a way borderline works...haven't played it but it bet you in 6 months a lot of youtubers will make an "analsys on chloe price borderline"
half of the playerbase choose the bae ending with a reason. We don't give a damn about the timeline where Chloe dies. And D9 knew that. The lied us about respecting both decisions so they won't lose their money. But in the end, why do they give you two choice if the outcome is the same?
@@danielhambalko7288except that Chloe was selfish and Max was basically her doormat in the first game. The easiest decision is sacrificing Chloe, Chloe even tells Max to let her die. Had the game been Saving Kate or Saving The Bay it would've been a much harder choice to make.
@@kingcrimson2643 Chloe lost her father and Max in the same time period. Yet she NEVER gave up on her, forgave her for leving and ghosting her for years, and at the end, she offered herself to be killed for the sake of the BAy. Yea, such a bad person -.-
They really did not care about “respecting both ending” for the poeple who selected sacrifice Arcadia Bay, an entire city just so Chloe to barely get mentioned and even so end up breaking up with max. Kinda destroys her character.
welcome back to another episode of “should have ended with one game” they should just keep the tradition with new protagonists like Sean, Daniel and Alex
welcome to the “I can’t accept that my teeneage couple has broke up after 10 years” drama! even I saved chloe and don’t feel that bad. people change. i have 21 now. I won’t be the same 10 years from now. Same logic applies to Chloe and Max.

2:10 this felt like a big middle finger to ppl who celebrated that photo reveal in LiS 2. I remember feeling so relieved and happy when that moment came out-the comics were still ongoing and so many Pricefield fans were upset with how Max and Chloe were being treated. The comics downplayed their relationship so much. Then DontNod included that moment in LiS 2. Now this photo in Double Exposure feels like another opportunity for Deck Nine to try and further downplay Max and Chloe’s relationship. Chloe would’ve never abandoned Max. There has to be a legit reason why she did what she did because cutting off all contact with Max feels out of character. They literally could’ve stayed friends since we’ve been shown so many times that both girls value each other so much. And after everything that’s happened? I’d imagine they’d try to be each other’s biggest support esp since the events of Storm Week just feel like something only each other would genuinely understand.
It’s just a massive middle finger in general to anybody who chose to save Chloe. ( hey genuine question how did the comics downplay their relationship I just read them and it’s all about how much they love each other)
@@Auditor6667 Sorry for the long reply. In the comics we had Pricefield in the beginning, alternate Amberprice in the middle, and Pricefield at the end. The issue here is how the comics were marketed throughout its run and what was promised vs what ended up happening. We were promised a story that was gonna be based off of the BAE ending and when ppl think of that they’d usually think it would focus on Max and Chloe and how they’d handle the events of Storm Week. I can’t think of a single person who’d expect Amberprice to be heavily featured in a Bae Ending story yet that’s what we got in the official comics. I take no issues with Amberprice but they already had their story to tell. The comics were supposed to be Max and Chloe’s story. We ended up getting a story that mostly centered around Max going through her own struggles alone without her Chloe. I remember feeling so angry when Max just accepted that she’d live in that alt universe. It felt like the Bay Ending at that point because OG Chloe was left behind again and Max was alone. We spend most of the time with Max interacting with another version of Chloe who was able to be in a relationship with Rachel. This portion of the story takes a HUGE chunk of the comics. I would’ve been fine if it lasted a couple issues but it took way too much time when we could’ve had OG Max and Chloe tackle their own demons together. We do get established Pricefield and romantic moments, yearning, but it feels so frustrating because the story took so many detours just to get to what was marketed. Almost as if those who chose the Bae Ending were strung along until the very end and by the time we got there it felt underwhelming because that portion of the story was tiny in comparison to all the other stuff we got. It’s as if we were promised we would get an entire cake but in actuality we got 1 slice and we’re expected to be ok with that/we can’t complain because in the end Pricefield got together. And it also felt like the writers were punishing ppl who chose Bae/that constant feeling of “Bae ending is wrong” when both endings are unfair to begin with. Chloe and the town shouldn’t have had to be sacrificed.
I know right? Chloe is like THE MOST loyal person ever and she loved max wayy too much to ever even think about leaving her.. Deck Nine absolutely sucks
@@JassLJ It means that you cant force things. They are a game characters but they are ilustrating real Human emotions. In the real World this happen even when you have passed trough a lot with that person. Im not happy with It, but relationships break even. Chloe always had different interest, and being near one to each other is a persistent memory of what happened in Arcadia Bay. There was so much lost. Chloe's mom and Max friends died there. Even when you think they can be happy human mind its very complicated. They love each other but they can be together anymore, there is a lot of pain and Breaks behind. Max do even feel hurt about Joyce death til this moment. Idk is selfish just wanting them to be together without thinking about what they could feel. Thats why I choose to sacrifice Chloe.
@@kidoftheforce I'm not saying the break-up ruins the ending to Sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending. It's just a personal preference on how I think the story should be told.
The only reason i wanted to play this game was for Max and some Chloe love relationship cameos not to rizz up some new girl name Amanda. I'm over this game before I saw a full playthrough of it.
Apparently Square Enix has some sort of beef with Ashly Burch. Which is supposedly what brought about them axing Chloe from Double Exposure...so I heard. They hate Chloe because of it. Personally, I think it's childish to cut a character from a game, just because there is some type of grudge against their original voice actor..Chloe is such a beloved character...removing her was a mistake. I feel the devs have shot themselves in the foot with this one.
I wonder why they had to re-record Chloe’s lines? Did they not want to pay Ashly Burch? Does anyone have any info about this? I’ve replayed lis1 so many times, the way the lines are voice acted is so ingrained in my head
I'm delusional and optimistic so in my mind max and chloe are gonna get back together in episode 3 - 5 and they're gonna be together forever because I REFUSE to belive they could break up for good
Impossible since there is another ending with Chloe being dead 🫡 Bringing back such character would have a huge impact on episodes, it’s like making 6 new episodes instead of 3. I personally think Deck9 made a great job considering preferences of people, cuz otherwise they would need create 2 separate games lol
@@dmitriiavramenko8498 not that impossible there could be a romance scene in some later episodes which could include depending on all yours choices a new love interest or chloe then after that just add a few new texts and journal entries about what happened off screen and we're good. Chloe is glad to be alive, but the past still haunts her. Read her letter, you’ll understand her feelings, her insecurities and her survivor’s guilt. Imagine being Chloe, knowing your partner can rewind time. All of the sudden you cannot be certain if any decision you make is truly yours, because your partner can see how you react, rewind and say all the right words to get you to agree with them. Now you can say Max would never do that, but would you be able to say for certain in Chloe’s situation? Max feels perpetually guilty for letting a whole town die (shocker) and as much as she loves Chloe she is a perpetual reminder of that. That’s what Chloe means when she says Max is unable to move into the future with her. These things happen. I had a very similar thing happen to me and I found solace in a fictional character experiencing it. It felt cathartic, almost like she was experiencing my emotions vicariously. Love is oftentimes not enough, and boy, do I know that. I love how messy and realistic this felt, because life is like that and it sure is strange.
>but would you be able to say for certain in Chloe’s situation? Yes she can. She has a five reason to beelive Max and D9 ignored all of them She's always trusted Max about this. In the first game, she was never afraid of Max and her powers - at first she thought it was a toy but then she realized it was harming Max and generally dangerous She knows that Max feels guilty for those who died in Arcadia Bay. She knows Max doesn't want more deaths so she stopped rewind. How much does Chloe have to distrust Max to not realize that she wouldn't use the power again after hundreds of people died? Well Dontnod!Chloe totally trusted Max on that one. She never saw Bay. Yes yes, both girls have not visited the other ending which means they do NOT know that the storm is caused by saving Chloe. This point alone should be enough for Chloe - she saw what Max's powers did, she saw then the signs of the storm started (dead birds, weather and so on) and then the storm itself. But that doesn't happen. Which means Max isn't rewinding. Please don't think Chloe is stupid (like D9 do) she would easily put two and two together. If Max did rewind, they would never have arguments. But arguments do happen. Which means Max doesn't rewind. The fact that Max has a nosebleed. Chloe noticed it in the first game. If Max had continued to rewind, Chloe would have noticed that her nose was bleeding (Not to mention that she knows that it hurts Max, and she's not dumb as hell to realize that, combined with other reasons, this is one of those times when Max doesn't want to rewind anymore after she's accomplished her goal of saving Chloe).
>Read her letter, you’ll understand her feelings, her insecurities and her survivor’s guilt. You mean reading a letter where she hypocritically blames Max for her being stuck in the past but she herself can't move on from Rachel? (Which is a retcon and I'll explain below)? Or the fact that she says she could be with Max if Max wasn't stuck in the past? (Which is also a retcon). This letter absolutely kills Chloe as a character and makes no sense in the context of how this ending was written and conceived by the original developers. Don't justify the narrative from D9 with the narrative from D9 >Max feels perpetually guilty for letting a whole town die (shocker) and as much as she loves Chloe she is a perpetual reminder of that. That’s what Chloe means when she says Max is unable to move into the future with her. The whole “Max is stuck in the past” thing is an absolute retcon to justify the gap. Dontnod has twice established that Max isn't stuck in the past, let me tell you about all the retcons that D9 did To justify breaking up because “Max is stuck in the past,” and “Chloe started resenting Max because of her mother” and “Chloe couldn't move on from Rachel” they literally had to make tons of retcons about LIS 1 and LI 2. Chloe knows from the beginning that her mom is going to die. I'll add that Dontnod clearly show that Chloe continues to look at Max with love afterward, so “When Chloe found out her mother was dead” and “And she never looked the same at me after that ” is a double retcon from D9 to justify Chloe's resentment. But Dontnod!Chloe knew from the beginning, she basically gave Max permission to kill her mother (and other people) and her love for Max didn't die after that. Because Dontnod!Chloe herself doesn't want to die as well, she understands the nuances of the situation and what a really shitty choice Max was faced with and she knows that Max would never hurt her mother or those people if it weren't for that fucking tornado. Her understanding side is also shown earlier with William - when Max told her in the parking lot that she saved her father and then brought her back (at the cost of William's life), she as promised didn't get mad at her. She realized how fucked up a situation Max was facing and that she didn't want any of it. Among other retcons is the idea of an ending about Max moving on too, not just Chloe. This ending is about them both moving forward, together and not away from each other, and neither of them stuck in the past (But D9 claimed that it was Max who stucked in the past and that Bae ending about Max moving on from Chloe and not with her) Dontnod talked about this in an interview shortly after the LIS finale, and they confirmed it in LIS 2 again, they let us know through David telling us about Max and Chloe that they've both moved on (and he explicitly describes them that way). And guess who we don't meet in DE? That's right!!! You'll never see Max mention David. You'll never see Max bring up the fact that she visited Away and David with Chloe. You'll never see David on her contact list (although LIS 2 establishes that Max is keeping in touch with him and not only through Chloe, and that's how he knew she was going to apply for another gallery). You'll never see D9!Chloe mention David in texts with Max, in a letter, or in crosstalk. LIS 2 also establishes that Max and Chloe were in New York, one of the places *Rachel wanted to visit. Chloe from Dontnod really moved one from her while Chloe from D9 wasn't able to visit the cities Rachel wanted to visit and that's why we never see Max mention how they both visited New York. The Bae!LIS 2 segment for D9 is too unpleasant, it interferes with them executing their bad writting so they just removed that segment from existence. Even the only thing related to this segment, the famous photo of Max and Chloe, is now retconed too, now Chloe has blue hair, they have different poses, and the photo is now taken in Sedona instead of Away. And of course they added the negative context about the girls fighting after this photo, because they can't make a single interaction where Max and Chloe aren't fighting can they? Otherwise their bad writting wouldn't work. Here are examples of how D9 intentionally not only misrepresented Chloe's character, but made major retcons to justify their story. And it's expected. They did a lot of retcons in BTS too. They don't really like to respect the original material when it gets in their way And Dontnod also talked about how ending is about not looking to the past "You make a sacrifice to accept your life as it is, to stop trying to have a perfect life, changing everything, and to stop looking to the past. This is the metaphor and the theme of the game. Somehow, you need to accept grief, you need to accept the past, you need to stop trying to make everything perfect, and then think about the future. To make a compromise, and then go for a while and try to make the best of your future, not by changing the past." That's why Max being stuck in the past doesn''t make sense even more
And they tey twisted Chloe's character to 180 degree to make break up work. They deleted her main trait - loyalty DeckNine (at least when the writers loved Chloe): Shows that Chloe desperately wants Max back, explicitly writes that she will take her back with a heartbeat, misses her and keeps pictures of her Dontnod: Shows that Chloe loves Max even after five years, instead of rejecting her she takes her back to her house, gives her her father's camera, happily spends time with her and wants her love by day two, you can go all the way through the whole game in anti-Chloe style but she never leaves Max and still stays on her side, at the end Max kills her mom and hundreds of other people AND CHLOE GOD DAMN IT STAYS ON HER SIDE because "No matter what you choose i know you'll make the right decision“ and looks at her with her most loving gaze before they leave town. Dontnod in LIS 2 : Shows that Chloe after 4 years hasn't changed her mind about Max's decision, she hasn't abandoned her and they are both moving on, TOGETHER. Again, because “No matter what you choose i know you'll make the right decision” Chloe's main trait is her LOYALITY to those she loves, and that's why she fights so hard for Rachel and Max (even when they hurt her, like Rachel cheating on her and lying to her, or Max leaving her for five years). Chloe from D9 in DE: "Dumps Max because she got paranoid and started to fear her powers, she actually blamed her for her mother's death and forgot that she let Max choose her, and she also dumps Max when she needed her most and cut all ties with her because Max didn't want to move on and Chloe wanted to move on to the future - and this is after Max actually suggested that she move on and start living together, for real, but Chloe refused.” God what bad writing and character assassination just to justify the breakup. It's like if Aang started killing people in the sequels (Despite his pacifism) , or if Joel stopped loving Ellie in TLOU2 , or if Luke Skywalker raised his hand to his nephew...oh he really did it in the sequels from Disney! Max and Chloe supposed to stay together forever in Bae ending as Dontnod intented and and they made it clear a few times. Besides, Bae ending was always about Max moving on, but not from Chloe, she moved on WITH Chloe, together. D9 just retconned that. Furthermore they promised us that Max would have a different trauma in both endings. But she ends up having the same trauma - she loses Chloe in Bay, and she loses Chloe in Bae, and the overall plot of her having to move on from Chloe. Like, WTF?
Yeah, the game looks fine, but they really, REALLY, disappointed a lot of fans with the way they treated BAE. They should have stayed in the Bay lane, they should have used a different protagonist for this game, they probably should have not touched the Max AND Chloe storyline at all with the finesse of a 💩 truck. But they did what they did and kicked a lot of fans off their bus. I’m not so much mad anymore as feeling completely abandoned and removed from a game I’d love to otherwise buy and play. 😢
They should’ve don’t small dlc u play as max and u go on date either Chloe do random Shit together or get into some fun trouble like good times than leave it at that for fans to freak over
Hey I got two words for you: the comics. Perfect end to max and Chloe’s story I just read them and due to the game I’m choosing them to be cannon for me.
It should be acknowledged that if they are focusing on the Save Chloe Ending and not both, then Deck Nine just lied to their audience. They said in one of the videos promoting the game that, through the dialogue options, BOTH Endings would remain canon.
@@DomTheBomb I honestly think they lied. People are already showing off journal entries Max wrote that shows that Save Chloe is the ending they are focusing on and not both like they claimed. According to supposed leaks and rumors, Square and Deck Nine are apparently wanting to move on from Chloe appearing in these games. Here is the deal I could deal with them breaking up. I could deal with them losing contact like before. What I can't deal with is the obvious flirting with Victoria Chase of all people. Then the letter and dairy entries just feel spiteful like the Devs hate Chole and it shows. I would be fine with dating Amanda Bynes if we got to know her, but instead what I have played feels like men cosplaying bisexual women. Max flirts shamelessly with both genders and they made it an achievement, that is terrible bi representation. Then on top of all of that is talked to by Vihn in such gross manners no matter how I shoot him down. Then Max's diary is filthy Safi mom is hot, Mark Jefferson is hot, and then for her to draw her assault in her diary with what looks like a smile on her own face is sickening. I truly wish I could get my money back. I am at Max's age and you are trying to tell me she allows her coworkers to talk like that to her. People keep saying oh they grew up, but Max is legit acting like a 19 freshman. I would be on the phone with HR so quick. I don't care what story they are trying to tell anymore, because at this point people who hate Chole will ignore real criticism. The game crashed five times for me 5.
After all the emotional investment players put into their bond in the first game, having them break up off-screen is not just lazy, it's downright disrespectful to the characters and the fans. We spent hours getting attached to their story, only for the writers to throw it all away like it never mattered. What a waste of everything the original game built up.
I'm not defending the story of this breakup. I definitely think it makes zero sense in the long haul. It was easy to keep Max and Chloe together. Just replace Amanda with Chloe in Bae, or make it a long distance relationship for them in Bae. Or just make the game in Bay like they originally wanted. Even that would be more respectful to Bae
To respect the fans that chose to save Chloe, they should still be friends, tall, but on different paths, focusing on careers but still calling, video chatting etc, coming together at the end of this story and being together for good, for the people who choose to sacrifice Chloe, then obviously Chloe is a memory, she passed away, and go forward from there, forcing them to break up when the majority of the fan base chose to sacrifice the bay, is kind of a slap to our face, imo. 😞
It's a pretty realistic depiction of what people with abandonment issues do to themselves. They always believe that their partner will leave them, because everyone else has. Worse, they LOOK for 'signs' that the relationship is ending, often exaggerating or misreading the intention and then break up anyway. Yes, they often cause the very same breakups and drama they wish they could avoid. People are messy.
The difference is that Chloe throughout the games is intentionally shown as someone who doesn't end and doesn't want to end relationships. And she wasn't looking for signs of an ending relationship in her relationship with Rachel or even DE. So that's not the case you're describing I'm not even saying this is bullshit and you can just keep the girls together. Like Dontnod did in both games if you chose Bae. By your logic they should have made the girls break up too?
@@blood10dragon56damn that could actually work like it’s impossible to involve her in the game but if you choose the ending where you saved her and you don’t go out with anybody else during the game it could work . All that work for Chloe of all people resenting Max's rewind power and dipping, when that's what helped her solve Rachel's murder? To cause chaos around Blackwell academy but all of a sudden it's Max who's stuck in the past??? I'm sorry did they even play the first game, like with their eyes open?
I see a lot of people understanding the break up but I think it kinda makes sense. Chloe and Max have so much trauma to the last decision in the game. I can definitely see how the decision to sacrificing Arcadia bay, sacrificing all those people for Chloe would have paid a toll. Also in the letter, maybe Max had a tendency to rewind time everything Chloe made a mistake and that would have made things bad too.
The point is that it contradicts the point of this ending. Yes they have trauma, but Dontnod twice made it clear to us that both girls were able to deal with the trauma and both girls moved on, together. D9 retcon this and state that Max is stuck in the past And they actually made Chloe paranoid for nothing, she has five good reasons to believe Max. Furthermore Max didn't actually rewind - that's the whole premise of the game and you won't find a single diary entry, dialog or thought where it was confirmed that Max actually manipulated the relationship with Chloe if it was a real thing.
This really hurts hearing Max and Chloe say those lines. Max is like "Don't say that, I won't trade you." Then Chloe says back to her "No matter what you choose I know you'll make the right decision." "I'll always be with you. Forever." it only makes the heartbreak more emotionally hurtful.😢
Man, what choice game is this that isn't faithful to the choices the player chooses in the previous one? I'm still outraged by this. This game isn't the essence of life is strange, that emotion, man, why add new things and keep the max in all of this? Wouldn't a new game with different characters be better? they ended up with a protagonist of 2 games and a prequel, what an illogical thing
how is it not faithful max and chloe were together for 3 years right up until life is strange 2 sometime between Life is strange 2 and Double exposure something happened that made them break up Plus Chloe was never really meant to live Chloe was always meant to die Sure everything we did to save chloe meant nothing but still Chloe was still mature enough to sacrifice herself for her mom but Max was like Bish no fudge your mom i choose you
@@AlexisStreams Like, to be honest, in my opinion, they ruined Life is Strange and its cycle in this game, but I respect your vision and you're right on some points. I really wish this game wasn't with Max, it could be with any other character, Life is Strange has so many interesting characters like Warren, Kate, Victoria, but imagine playing with them and having new actions and how they turned out if it was one of the canon sides in choices. arcadia bay, besides, this game could be better humanized with other characters without powers.
Especially after PROMISING that they would respect both choices to the first game! They just blatantly lied in our face so they could take our money. How insane. I can guarantee DeckNine will dissolve within the coming year and there will be no more Life is Strange. Their reputation just tanked and these sales are not gonna be good.
@@AlexisStreams it's not faithful. This ending was always about you saving Chloe and Max staying together FOREVER. The original writers even literally said that And Chloe was actually the one who let Max sacrifice the town (including her mother).
1:36 that’s the same picture Sean saw in David’s trailer in LI2, who would have thought that not long after that picture was taken max and Chloe would have broken up
Maybe it’s just me but Gwen almost reminds me of Chloe bcuz of the tats. But this game is a huge dishonorment to pricefield and everything that comes with it. My theory that Chloe won’t be in the game and her being a mood filler is becoming true rn. I have zero faith this game will succeed lis 1 and imo it might be the death of lis. They didn’t respect both endings and it’s just dumb that they couldn’t bring back Steph or Alex.
DE can literally not exist, regardless if you chose Bay or Bae. If you chose Bay, Max would never risk using her time travel power again because she literally undid all of her time travelling due to the consequences. If you chose Bae, Max and Chloe would be together and would go through a new story together. There is absolutely no reason for Chloe not to just be in the game since an entire town was destroyed for her and Max to be together. And we’re expected to pay over $100+ for this absolutely joke? The greedy audacity of these bottom feeder developers is just embarassing to witness.
I just don’t get why they would take away the narrative satisfaction from one of the endings of the *choice-based* game 💀 Like regardless of whether you romanced Chloe that whole ending is just kind of lame now, at least in this game’s timeline
A former developer told us in August that D9 think of Bae as evil and the wrong choice. Well you can see their attitude towards that ending in the game.
See, THIS is the reason why I chose Bay over Bae for once.... Family matters more than significant others especially when tragedy strikes. Don't get me wrong, Pricefield is sweet and they are adorable together, but Chloe loved her Mom even when she was rebellious. And, in the end, teenagers were just that-- teenagers.
Nah I would choose bay just for the fact Chloe kept dying or disable in worse way so it meaning that Chloe was meant to die some way for some reason as it her destiny
@@nessiebwur yea morals but going by logic where. We saw Chloe dying different ways and getting shitty end of the stick to want to unalive herself to me seem like her dying was only option for her destiny and even if u save Chloe ( before DE) my thought process was she going to die somehow again
@herpartnerintime they broke up because trauma and Max's power/choices-- did you not hear max say " Joyce died in the dinner, I'll never forget the look Chloe gave me when she found out " also in LIS 1, when Chloe realized the storm was for her, she even insisted on dying and that her mother did not deserve to die and that her stepdad deserved to be happy. . . Chloe gave the option to be killed as the first option and max was like no. . . Chloe was saved but she had no choice, so all of her people died and she couldn't do anything. . . that is hard to live with. . . LIS has always been about "real" emotions and touching on sensitive topics, So the superpowers might be like a fairy tail, but the emotions, trauma, strain, etc etc. is real human emotion... it was better they broke up, than both to be reminded of what happened.
Hello? Lif 1 was all about Chloe and Max and in lif 4 they just break up? Wtf they would never break up for such stupid reason god why story games do that?! Plus why wouldnt Max rewind time when they broke up?! She rewinded for Safi but not for Chloe???
It's funny seeing people use the it's realistic to defend such a terrible writing choice the entire point of the save Chloe ending was so you can be with Chloe now it's revealed that if you pick this ending you don't end up with Chloe so now people tell me why would any one pick that ending now? For a lesson on well it's realistic? Wow what hard choice to make there
This is actually pretty realistic that Max & Chloe broke up, I think Chloe suffered survivors guilt & to an extent resented Max and eventually outgrew max. They were teens then. First loves, Middle & High school & College sweethearts usually don't last. Chloe even referenced, multiple times, that Max abandoned her. People with abandonment issues often end up breaking things off, because they can never move forward from being abandoned from their formative years.
The thing is, Chloe never resented Max for that decision, and Dontnod made it clear that no guilt separated the girls. >They were teens then. First loves, Middle & High school & College sweethearts usually don't last. In real life, there are couples who have stayed together since high school. It's rare, but it happens. Why aren't Max and Chloe allowed to be that kind of couple in a fictional story? It's realistic too. >hloe even referenced, multiple times, that Max abandoned her. But see... that was only in the first game . And she forgave Max for that. >People with abandonment issues often end up breaking things off, because they can never move forward from being abandoned from their formative years. But see Chloe was consistently shown to be very loyal in all the games - she never wanted to leave the ones she loves and she didn't want to be abandoned either. Let me explain: DeckNine (at least when the writers loved Chloe): Shows that Chloe desperately wants Max back, explicitly writes that she will take her back with a heartbeat, misses her and keeps pictures of her Dontnod: Shows that Chloe loves Max even after five years, instead of rejecting her she takes her back to her house, gives her her father's camera, happily spends time with her and wants her love by day two, you can go all the way through the whole game in anti-Chloe style but she never leaves Max and still stays on her side, at the end Max kills her mom and hundreds of other people AND CHLOE GOD DAMN IT STAYS ON HER SIDE because "No matter what you choose i know you'll make the right decision“ and looks at her with her most loving gaze before they leave town. Chloe was never written as someone whose abandonment issues would lead her to want to abandon those she loves herself. Furthermore they promised us that Max would have a different trauma in both endings. But she ends up having the same trauma - she loses Chloe in Bay, and she loses Chloe in Bae, and the overall plot of her having to move on from Chloe. Like,
ALSO, DeckNine did A LOT of retcons to make their break up story work Like that fact that Chloe knows from the beginning that her mom is going to die and that's why she mentioned her in the first part of the speech. I'll add that Dontnod clearly show that Chloe continues to look at Max with love afterward (there should be a screenshot from the last scene in Bae, but you know what i mean) , so “When Chloe found out her mother was dead” and “And she never looked the same at me after that ” is a double retcon from D9 to justify Chloe's resentment. They don't really like to respect the original material when it gets in their way It's not realistic story. It's a bad and lazy story (yep even break up was made in a very lazy way, no flashbacks, nothing)
I am really really really hoping they bring Chloe back in for the later episodes but the new romance options for Max do not comfort me that they will do that. I did NOT sacrifice a town for Max and Chloe to be together only for the new game to try to force me into a New Romantic relationship from the get go? What! But them breaking up doesn’t even make sense. Chloe would never tell Max via a HANDWRITTEN letter. Chloe wouldn’t question if Max was going to manipulate her (Max kept saying she never used her power since high school anyway so why would Chloe even think that if Max hasn’t used her power??!!), AND Max literally asked Chloe to move in and settle down in Chicago how does that align with Chloe’s excuse that Max isn’t looking at the future????
if does makes a sense if you think that maybe Chloe is suffering survivor's guild, maybe she is deeply depressed and believes that she is dragging Max down with her, but i'm truly hoping this is not final, i'm hoping they can be together again.
This kinda feels like it makes life is strange 1’s final decision useless. Either she dies, or just live but outside of max’s life. What even is the point ?
* SPOILER * I hope y'all know, life is strange, was not just about romance. y'all act like people do not break up and move on in life. Max and Chloe were teenagers, they are adults who went through some crazy stuff that would mess up anyone's mind, morals and personality. If you all actually watched the playthrough, you'd see the strain Max's choices and power had on the "relationship" considering Chloe did not ask max to keep her alive, instead Chloe knew she needed to die and wanted max to take that route, but Max loved her so much she did not want to be faced with that choice. . . it was her choice at the end of the day and Chloe couldn't do anything. . . in the game Chloe has a hard time moving on from the fact Max chose her, killing everyone they both knew and loved. . . in Max's diary, she also expresses some thoughts about the past, her choices, Mr. Jefferson, has flashbacks of her and Chloe's last words before killing off a whole town and, she also expresses Chloe's emotions and elaborates on them, saying how Chloe doesn't want to go to certain places anymore due to what happened, that she planned to travel to, with Rachel. . . Max also is paranoid that Chloe blames her and freaks out on Chloe. So them going separate ways due to trauma and strain, was the best option because they both are finding real happiness, looking forward in the future, Max basically had to live in the past to love Chloe and manipulate time to do so, Chloe even mentions that. . . . Do understand, just because you chose for them to be together in the end, does not mean they HAD to stay together, throughout the whole series. . . Also understand, they are grown adults, what they thought were right as teens, changed the older they got, so in that moment, yes it was all love and fun, but reality set in . . . the game is not just about "LOVE", it is a lot deeper than that .
@@kenaneshia6398 If anything this plot element completes Chloes arc perfectly if kept alive because she realized both were actually highly selfish and Chloe realized the insanity she had perpetuated and fighting fate and max helped her see it by keeping her alive choosing her
So either save Arcadia Bay but sacrifice Chloe or sacrifice Arcadia Bay but get a lesson in relationships don't work out does that really seem like a ending you would want?
I keep coming down here and watch these scenes from Double Exposure Chapter 1 over and over again, looking at the texts, letter and mainly photos just to get a little nostalgic. But every time I rewatch this the more hurtful and heartbreaking it gets. First Max literally sacrifices a whole town just for Chloe to live. “Max, I'll always be with you.“ “Forever.“ These have the deepest meaning probably of all the things said in S1 if you sacrifice the Bay. The storm is so horrible but I think their love is much stronger. And when they finally leave the ruins behind them, while Obstacles is playing, they don't look back. Driving into the unknown is a symbol of them finally being together, a brand new beginning. In the majority of late LiS games, S1's final decision leaves behind a great legacy no matter what we picked. But what happens then? Chloe leaves Max just like that? And not just that. Sometime later Max loses Safi too, she loses both of them. And then finally, the very thing Max was always afraid of, since Arcadia Bay, comes back to her. Her own powers. If something is depressive, like, one of the most depressive things in the history of Life is Strange series, it's this. I was waiting for a new Life is Strange since True Colors and October 29th is so close. I still think about what Max said about Safi at the Caledon too. “The fact that she isn't here right now to fuck with us... is not fair.“ Though Chloe can appear later she still wasn't in Chapter 1 so the same can be said about her as well. Max has to deal with so many bad things and she doesn't deserve any of them.
If it's any consolation - Dontnod (the original developers) never wanted this. With both their games and statements when they talked about Bae they made it clear to us that this relationship is forever. Furthermore they never wanted a direct sequel. D9 disrespected both by releasing a direct sequel and doing an unnecessary breakup. Treat this game like a bad fanfic
Yes it is a bit of a shame at the same time if you read the life is strange comics (which follow on from the first game) we do see a universe where the characters get to move on happily after the events of the first game (obviously more happens but don’t want to spoil it) basically if you want more of both of them read the comics and then this is basically an look into what a different outcome could have been (which is part of the fun of life is strange all the different outcomes)
I like what another comment I read said that they should have made the life is strange games all about different people in the same universe. Like how in life is strange 2 we see the photo of max and Chloe in David’s trailer I think it was and maybe in another game we’d see an old newspaper that had Sean and Daniel WANTED on it. So the game would acknowledge the characters of the previous game but leave the ending up in the air to value the player’s choices at the end This game completely ruined the first game though
I think people need to play the game in full before they jump to conclusions, there’s definitely something sinister in play that puts even the reality the game takes place in, into question because the break up isn’t even the biggest “whoa what?” moment in the game so far.
That’s exactly what they want us to do. That’s why they released two episodes early. First, they lied to us and said they were respecting both endings to the first game, so that people would order the ultimate edition and get early access. Now, there are 2 episodes out that DeckNine seems to think is going to get us curious and buy the game (which is working on you?) but the reality is, people are literally cancelling their preorders after finding out this information. Im certainly not buying the game now, and its not just because of this but because I’m tired of DeckNine’s antics as a whole. This isnt the first time they put zero love into this franchise. LiS belongs to Dontnod and DeckNine needs to give it back.
@@dreamscape3901 except they do honor both endings because the bae ending in the game never actually implied that they’re gonna live happily ever after… even I thought she was gonna have to spend the rest of her days saving Chloe’s life cause I assumed at the time that death would chase her until it got her back in the day. Also it makes sense that doing something like destroying an entire town at the age of 18, resulting in the deaths of Chloe’s mom and literally all of her friends after spending the whole week trying to prevent it would definitely weigh heavily on her and be as traumatic as the new game is showing it is. As much as I love Chloe and Max, them eventually breaking up isn’t that unrealistic to me. If Chloe saw how much what Max chose in that route was eating away at her, letting her go so she could be on her own and find a way to make peace with her past and breaking up with her in a harsh way so that it was easier for Max not to fight it seems like something Chloe would do.
@@deonscornervlog >except they do honor both endings because the bae ending in the game never actually implied that they’re gonna live happily ever after… Actually, that's exactly what that ending implied - being together forever. That's why Dontnod intentionally wrote that promise, that's why in their sequel they showed that years later no guilt separated the girls, that's why they explicitly said that the girls would be together forever and that you make that choice to preserve that important relationship. They also established that both girls have moved on without being stuck in the past, and D9 retconed this by saying that Max is stuck in the past. So yeah, D9 disrespected Bae.
With Chloe and Victoria moments on crosstalk having them interact with each other each time worries me that they are leading to them dating or something. But maybe it’s just that they didn’t know what they wanted to do with them on Crosstalk so just had them interact with each others posts
I think what baffles me is they had perfect breakup material with the whole distant Max thing. Ya know.. Max ignoring her for years after her dad died. Could have just went with that. I just don’t see Chloe being the initiator. Hopefully they can salvage this in the next game. Dunno how they could tho at this point. Not to say DE was bad. It was good and had its moments
Apparently the reason this was the case is because they hate the voice actor for Chloe. And also it seems that some of the developers just didn't like the character anyway so.... There is no need to morrell grandstand about abandonment issues it's pretty fucking simple.
i feel like all the rewinding time and trauma from that could’ve caused deep rooted issues in their relationship in the long run, maybe that’s a reason
I am happy with the direction, it is the direction I wanted. For those who are pro Chloe/Max (which I am), sometimes you need to lose what is most precious to learn to love. Doesn't mean forever apart.
> sometimes you need to lose what is most precious to learn to love. I'm sorry, but Max already learned that lesson in the first game. She was losing Chloe, and that's why she chose her for Bae. She doesn't want to lose her again. So sorry, no, this ending was always about the two girls staying together forever.
Can someone just explain to me, does the ending I "chose" at the end of the first game have any impact on this one? Like, I know a lot of people sacrificed the city and we see the consequences in this video, but I didn't think twice about sacrificing the annoying girl for the city. Am I forced to play a new game where my previous choice simply doesn't matter to the narrative? Or do I have the option of importing my choice from LiS1 when I start a new game?
It sounds like they’ve re recorded the flash back voice lines from the first game which seems odd why they couldn’t just take the old recordings. If I’m wrong I’m wrong. But Chloe doesn’t sound like Chloe if that makes sense haha
I’m curious to see since Max can travel through parallel universe that I wonder if she’ll meet Racheal Amber, and one of the universes where she survived
One of the most baffling decisions I think was made for this game. I didn’t mind seeing max coming back but was a bit concerned on what they were gonna do with her and Chloe. Now they gave max the Luke skywalker treatment, except not as severe
Well I’ve decided not to buy this game and to consider the comics cannon. Well done on invalidating 50% of your fans whatever crappy studio made this. (Thanks domthebomb)
Ok so, after watching this I think I disagree with all the hate and this doesn't seem that much out of character. People really do change, especially after 10 years. Especially after being practically children in the original and going through a lot of traumatic shit. I think this kinda works and I really hope (cope) that they do something with Chloe later. The Victoria flirting is a bit weird though
My dude the entire point of the choice is to be together with her this ruin's that so tell me what's the point of picking that ending for a lesson that relationship don't always work out does that really sound like a ending anyone would want to choose?
You can't justify assassinating a character with “changes”. If tomorrow Chloe became like Jefferson, would you justify that with change too? Chloe's core trait has always been loyalty and D9 took that away from her. And they weren't children. They were 18-year-old girls. They were kids when they met each other as kids. DeckNine (at least when the writers loved Chloe): Shows that Chloe desperately wants Max back, explicitly writes that she will take her back with a heartbeat, misses her and keeps pictures of her Dontnod: Shows that Chloe loves Max even after five years, instead of rejecting her she takes her back to her house, gives her her father's camera, happily spends time with her and wants her love by day two, you can go all the way through the whole game in anti-Chloe style but she never leaves Max and still stays on her side, at the end Max kills her mom and hundreds of other people AND CHLOE GOD DAMN IT STAYS ON HER SIDE because "No matter what you choose i know you'll make the right decision“ and looks at her with her most loving gaze before they leave town. Dontnod in LIS 2 : Shows that Chloe after 4 years hasn't changed her mind about Max's decision, she hasn't abandoned her and they are both moving on, TOGETHER. (I said that in my another comment but i'll say that again - Max never stucked in the past according Dontnod canon, and guild didn's separate the girls, both of them were able to overcame that) Furthermore they promised us that Max would have a different trauma in both endings. But she ends up having the same trauma - she loses Chloe in Bay, and she loses Chloe in Bae, and the overall plot of her having to move on from Chloe. Like, WTF?
well…. at least we have the comics? this game can be our, “now what if shit got even WORSE for these two timeline” sucks that it’s the one we’ll consider “canon” for the games even though both are. i hate this so much.
Ya, I may not buy this game anymore because of this. If this is the story they want to continue, then they don't get my money. Such a slap in the face to the original game and fans. Who thought it would be ok to replace a character like Chloe Price??? All they needed to do was make a game about Chloe and Max grown up or what they did after Arcadia Bay. NOBODY wants or was asking for Chloe to be replaced
I actually like the fact they broke up, seems like Chloe realised what happened back then as she got older (she grew up finally) and sorta realised that most of what happened was mostly maxs fault with her reminding and making a mess of everything
This is why saving chloe isn't canon sorry. If you chose that you missed the point of the game people. It was about Rachel. Her spirit wanted Chloe's sacrifice recognized, and just as I predicted, Maya had Safi's sacrifice recognized same deal.
Nope. Saving Chloe was always a canon ending (as was the other one) and it was never meant to lead to a breakup (as Dontnod explicitly established) Furthermore YOU missed the point of the story. It's not about Rachel. It's about making hard choices, stopping looking at the past and moving forward. Which is something the D9 missed. "You make a sacrifice to accept your life as it is, to stop trying to have a perfect life, changing everything, and to stop looking to the past. This is the metaphor and the theme of the game. Somehow, you need to accept grief, you need to accept the past, you need to stop trying to make everything perfect, and then think about the future. To make a compromise, and then go for a while and try to make the best of your future, not by changing the past." - Miche Koch
As someone who didnt like Life is strange 1 or BTS at all, thought 2 was ok, and loved True Colors, im genuinely impressed with this game so far. I never was a big Chloe fan, but i do hope she can come back in future episodes so those who do can get closure (although please make her more likable in this one I beg you)
@TheMildrek hey, just my opinion, everyone has a different one. I personally have just found each game to be an improvement over the previous one (with the exception of Double Exposure, which is not nearly as good as True Colors imo)
I just realized that it makes sense that they locked in the sacrifice Arcadia Bay ending. At the beginning of the game, Max needs a reason to save her friend's life by trying to rewind time. If she chose to sacrifice Chloe, she would be smart enough to know that rewinding time causes more problems than solutions. And why she would be holding on to the past a lot more. Hence not moving past her trauma. Chloe would grow and develop as a person, but Max would be stuck in the past because of what she let herself do. I'm not saying Chloe is perfect at this point, no one is, but I'm just saying what makes sense to me. I'm honestly curious where this will go and I want to give it a chance.
See the ending was always about moving on and not stucking in the past "You make a sacrifice to accept your life as it is, to stop trying to have a perfect life, changing everything, and to stop looking to the past. This is the metaphor and the theme of the game. Somehow, you need to accept grief, you need to accept the past, you need to stop trying to make everything perfect, and then think about the future. To make a compromise, and then go for a while and try to make the best of your future, not by changing the past." - Machel Koch Moreover, Dontnod has twice established that BOTH girls moved on together. They talked about it shortly after the finale and established it again in LIS2
They messed up with them breaking up but at least they got some chat that seems there still best friends and maybe work things out with the way they were talking through the messages
This feels like what telltale did in walking dead 2 to 3 where all outcomes have to lead to one spot, so we make it that none of them matter. If they were still friends and talking over text i would be more fine with the idea as i dont think after all they went though she would just drop max out of her life and same with max. Reading their chat I feel like max would try to send her messages like her parents did to try and reconnect with chole. Im not mad that they broke up, im mad that its not done right, I don't think its well written to make it believable to me. Bonus: I find it funny you can say you where love birds and she died or broke up and your friend immediately afterwards tells you to hit on the bar girl. 😂
I think LIS is the kind of series where this could happen. Everything is valid in this universe because all things ARE possible. A reality where Arcadia Bay lives? Could happen. Where Max is a Time Warrior fighting to save reality? Plausible. Where Max became the co-dependent one just as Chloe learned how to let go healthily, and couldn’t handle the pressure of being the Rachel Amber? Why couldn’t that happen?
That can't happen because LIS is not a multiverse possibility. DE is stated as a canon sequel to LIS 1, and doesn't make the “this is just one possible future option” disclaimer
This hurts

Chloe Price, the one whose biggest fear is being abandoned, breaks up with MAX? Do the writers even know who Chloe is??
People with abandonment issues do that when they want to be in control of the situation. I think it's the execution that didn't do well imo
Nope, and that was clear back when they released Before The Storm. I didn’t think that felt like Chloe either.
That's actually pretty common. Most with abandonment issues believe that they WILL ALWAYS abandon, so they do it first because it'll hurt them less. It's a vicious cycle that they don't realize they perpetuate.
They made an entire game centered around her, so...yeah, they know

In Save Chloe Ending of Life is Strange 1, they said these lines.
Chloe: "Max, I'll always be with you."
Max: "Forever"
Deck Nine: destroys their relationship for whatever reason.
Edit: I personally chose the Sacrifice Chloe ending, but it's just a little disappointing for those who chose the opposite.
This game would be better if it was only canon to the Sacrifice Chloe ending, but I suppose they had to find a way to make the branching choices relevant for that matter.
For money of course 🤑
it makes sense tho, highschool sweethearts rarely last and chloe probably had insane survivors guilt
@@pineddew not just that Max literally sacrificed an entire town to save Chloe.
they were teenagers when that happened......... its been like 10 years dont expect stuff not to change
@@PsychothicFlare1 i agree I personally think people are more upset there headcanon isn't what they got.
That relationship was doomed from the start. Young love feels strong, but it rarely survives time.
@@PsychothicFlare1 you're are not obligated to flirt with everyone, chill dude
So the woman with severe abandonment issues was the one that ended the relationship?
People with abadonment issues sometimes do that to avoid being the 1st one to be abandoned. That's how they cope to be in control of the situation. I tell you, I had a best friend with Borderline PD with severe abandonment issues. Just 1 relatively small misunderstanding could turn anything from 0 to 100. (I've been in mental health communities before as well)
Thats how it works mate, they push people away beacuse they are afraid, and honestly Chloe was a handfull on insecurities.

Chloe would NOT leave Max, wtf?! There is seriously something wrong here
I know right? Chloe is like THE MOST loyal person ever and she loved max wayy too much to ever even think about leaving her.. Deck Nine absolutely sucks

They really fumbled it big time
@herpartnerintime girl that doesn’t even make sense c’mon.. who would do something like that? and do you even have proof?
She has a five reason to beelive Max and D9 ignored all of them
She's always trusted Max about this. In the first game, she was never afraid of Max and her powers - at first she thought it was a toy but then she realized it was harming Max and generally dangerous
She knows that Max feels guilty for those who died in Arcadia Bay.
Don't justify the narrative from D9 with the narrative from D9
>Max feels perpetually guilty for letting a whole town die (shocker) and as much as she loves Chloe she is a perpetual reminder of that. That’s what Chloe means when she says Max is unable to move into the future with her.
The whole “Max is stuck in the past” thing is an absolute retcon to justify the gap. Dontnod has twice established that Max isn't stuck in the past, let me tell you about all the retcons that D9 did
To justify breaking up because “Max is stuck in the past,” and “Chloe started resenting Max because of her mother” and “Chloe couldn't move on from Rachel” they literally had to make tons of retcons about LIS 1 and LI 2.
This ending is about them both moving forward, together and not away from each other, and neither of them stuck in the past (But D9 claimed that it was Max who stucked in the past and that Bae ending about Max moving on from Chloe and not with her)
Dontnod talked about this in an interview shortly after the LIS finale, and they confirmed it in LIS 2 again, they let us know through David telling us about Max and Chloe that they've both moved on (and he explicitly describes them that way).
They don't really like to respect the original material when it gets in their way
And Dontnod also talked about how ending is about not looking to the past
"You make a sacrifice to accept your life as it is, to stop trying to have a perfect life, changing everything, and to stop looking to the past. This is the metaphor and the theme of the game. Somehow, you need to accept grief, you need to accept the past, you need to stop trying to make everything perfect, and then think about the future. To make a compromise, and then go for a while and try to make the best of your future, not by changing the past."
That's why Max being stuck in the past doesn''t make sense even more
And they tey twisted Chloe's character to 180 degree to make break up work. They deleted her main trait - loyalty
DeckNine (at least when the writers loved Chloe): Shows that Chloe desperately wants Max back, explicitly writes that she will take her back with a heartbeat, misses her and keeps pictures of her
Dontnod: Shows that Chloe loves Max even after five years, instead of rejecting her she takes her back to her house, gives her her father's camera, happily spends time with her and wants her love by day two, you can go all the way through the whole game in anti-Chloe style but she never leaves Max and still stays on her side, at the end Max kills her mom and hundreds of other people AND CHLOE GOD DAMN IT STAYS ON HER SIDE because "No matter what you choose i know you'll make the right decision“ and looks at her with her most loving gaze before they leave town.
Dontnod in LIS 2 : Shows that Chloe after 4 years hasn't changed her mind about Max's decision, she hasn't abandoned her and they are both moving on, TOGETHER. Again, because “No matter what you choose i know you'll make the right decision”
Chloe's main trait is her LOYALITY to those she loves, and that's why she fights so hard for Rachel and Max (even when they hurt her, like Rachel cheating on her and lying to her, or Max leaving her for five years).
Chloe from D9 in DE: "Dumps Max because she got paranoid and started to fear her powers, she actually blamed her for her mother's death and forgot that she let Max choose her, and she also dumps Max when she needed her most and cut all ties with her because Max didn't want to move on and Chloe wanted to move on to the future - and this is after Max actually suggested that she move on and start living together, for real, but Chloe refused.”
God what bad writing and character assassination just to justify the breakup.
Like, WTF?
Theres no way they would EVER break up
Yeah, the game looks fine, but they really, REALLY, disappointed a lot of fans with the way they treated BAE.
So that's not the case you're describing
I'm not even saying this is bullshit and you can just keep the girls together. Like Dontnod did in both games if you chose Bae. By your logic they should have made the girls break up too?
chloe would literally NEVER leave max what is this game on???
💯
Here’s hoping they get back together by the end of the game
like a secret ending if you keep faithful to her or somewhat.
@@blood10dragon56damn that could actually work like it’s impossible to involve her in the game but if you choose the ending where you saved her and you don’t go out with anybody else during the game it could work
. (Does anybody else feel really uncomfortable after commenting cause I just sent a lot of comments and I already want to delete them all)
🙏🙏
All that work for Chloe of all people resenting Max's rewind power and dipping, when that's what helped her solve Rachel's murder? To cause chaos around Blackwell academy but all of a sudden it's Max who's stuck in the past??? I'm sorry did they even play the first game, like with their eyes open?
Yep they didn't play the first game sadly
D9 retcon this and state that Max is stuck in the past
And they actually made Chloe paranoid for nothing, she has five good reasons to believe Max.
Wouldn't a new game with different characters be better? they ended up with a protagonist of 2 games and a prequel, what an illogical thing
how is it not faithful
max and chloe were together for 3 years right up until life is strange 2 sometime between Life is strange 2 and Double exposure something happened that made them break up Plus Chloe was never really meant to live Chloe was always meant to die Sure everything we did to save chloe meant nothing but still Chloe was still mature enough to sacrifice herself for her mom but Max was like Bish no fudge your mom i choose you
@@AlexisStreams Like, to be honest, in my opinion, they ruined Life is Strange and its cycle in this game, but I respect your vision and you're right on some points.
The original writers even literally said that
And Chloe was actually the one who let Max sacrifice the town (including her mother).
Chloe Tried to sacrifice herself to save her mom what are you on about
1:36 that’s the same picture Sean saw in David’s trailer in LI2, who would have thought that not long after that picture was taken max and Chloe would have broken up
Maybe it’s just me but Gwen almost reminds me of Chloe bcuz of the tats.
@@Shakooky Ultimately, it all comes down to one's individual morals, right?
@@nessiebwur yea morals but going by logic where. We saw Chloe dying different ways and getting shitty end of the stick to want to unalive herself to me seem like her dying was only option for her destiny and even if u save Chloe ( before DE) my thought process was she going to die somehow again
@@Shakooky Yeah, she was, unfortunately.
😮
THEY BROKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my… there’s no shot.
Now my heart is 💔
What it cost
RIP acadia bay
Let me explain:
It's like if Aang started killing people in the sequels (Despite his pacifism) , or if Joel stopped loving Ellie in TLOU2 , or if Luke Skywalker raised his hand to his nephew...oh he really did it in the sequels from Disney!
Like,
ALSO, DeckNine did A LOT of retcons to make their break up story work
Like that fact that Chloe knows from the beginning that her mom is going to die and that's why she mentioned her in the first part of the speech.
They don't really like to respect the original material when it gets in their way
It's not realistic story.
I mean at the end of farewell max did the exact same thing to chloe leaving her a voice message
This kinda feels like it makes life is strange 1’s final decision useless. Either she dies, or just live but outside of max’s life. What even is the point ?
💯
Just dismiss this game as cheap fanfic. Dontnod (the original creators) didn't want this.
This makes me feel like playing Life is Strange 1 again, and choosing to sacrifice Chloe.
damn.... i know its hurts but.. *damn*
I'm sure she will show up in the game later plus I hope they bring someone back that we saved for players like me who has her dead
I think Chloe will show up in the final 3 chapters 🙏
* SPOILER *
I hope y'all know, life is strange, was not just about romance. y'all act like people do not break up and move on in life.
Game is not JUST about love but the RAWNESS of what love actually entails when all the intimate honey moon moments take a backseat
thank u for this !!!! so eloquently put
@@kenaneshia6398 If anything this plot element completes Chloes arc perfectly if kept alive because she realized both were actually highly selfish and Chloe realized the insanity she had perpetuated and fighting fate and max helped her see it by keeping her alive choosing her
@@DarkcydeoftheRakai and the resentment that probably formed when Max sacrificed an entire town to save her.
So the game would acknowledge the characters of the previous game but leave the ending up in the air to value the player’s choices at the end
This game completely ruined the first game though
I feel the same way Deon
@@deonscornervlog >except they do honor both endings because the bae ending in the game never actually implied that they’re gonna live happily ever after…
Actually, that's exactly what that ending implied - being together forever.
Yeah I was saying Max has to see their conversations like 😐
I think what baffles me is they had perfect breakup material with the whole distant Max thing. Ya know.. Max ignoring her for years after her dad died. Could have just went with that. I just don’t see Chloe being the initiator. Hopefully they can salvage this in the next game. Dunno how they could tho at this point. Not to say DE was bad. It was good and had its moments
Hopefully Chloe in game as cameo
thx for the vid Dom I needed to see this. I heard something about a break-up
NO NOT CHLOE SHE CANT DIE
You can keep her alive
She ain’t dead btw if kept alive
Apparently the reason this was the case is because they hate the voice actor for Chloe. And also it seems that some of the developers just didn't like the character anyway so.... There is no need to morrell grandstand about abandonment issues it's pretty fucking simple.
Geez...they sure hated Chloe...
I suspect they hate all blue-haired women.
i feel like all the rewinding time and trauma from that could’ve caused deep rooted issues in their relationship in the long run, maybe that’s a reason
I am happy with the direction, it is the direction I wanted. For those who are pro Chloe/Max (which I am), sometimes you need to lose what is most precious to learn to love. Doesn't mean forever apart.
I hope so.
> sometimes you need to lose what is most precious to learn to love.
You do get the choice if you sacrificed chloe or the city.. it changes dialogue, and pictures
Thank you for this headlight of the things about Chloe, really, thanks
Of course!
This game is disappointing. I would've respected Chloe more than Deck Nine, and I **sacrificed** her in LiS1.
I been saying to my friend you save Chloe be prepared for the misery and pain that will destroy these two relationship.
There’s still a chance they might come back together who knows
Meh, Kate was way better, anyways. At least she's not toxic like Chloe was.
Kate is stated as surviving if she didn’t jump

Yeah just with Rhianna DeVries interesting
People are surprised but think about the survivor’s guilt Chloe must have knowing she was the one who was supposed to die
i mean i get it
that's why i knew they broke up but hey at least they were together for 3 years
No, it's about Max being stuck in the past and Chloe wanting to move on to the future. Which is a retcon-- Max was able to move on in Dontnod's canon.
I’m curious to see since Max can travel through parallel universe that I wonder if she’ll meet Racheal Amber, and one of the universes where she survived
This is some serious character derailment what they did to Chloe Price. Reminds me of Total Drama All-Stars where they derailed all the characters.
One of the most baffling decisions I think was made for this game. I didn’t mind seeing max coming back but was a bit concerned on what they were gonna do with her and Chloe. Now they gave max the Luke skywalker treatment, except not as severe
This has no sense... they left us empty and hopeless
Happy to know i don't need to buy the game! Thank you for the video ❤
No problem!
Well I’ve decided not to buy this game and to consider the comics cannon. Well done on invalidating 50% of your fans whatever crappy studio made this. (Thanks domthebomb)
Well if you think this is bad, the audio leaks for the other episodes just make it worse...
Don’t spoil me I’ll have to see that myself once those drop
Ugh I know. The motive and the killer seems lame. I hope Deck Nine makes it make sense somehow.. but it seems crazy.
Tell me
Ok so, after watching this I think I disagree with all the hate and this doesn't seem that much out of character. People really do change, especially after 10 years. Especially after being practically children in the original and going through a lot of traumatic shit. I think this kinda works and I really hope (cope) that they do something with Chloe later. The Victoria flirting is a bit weird though

(I said that in my another comment but i'll say that again - Max never stucked in the past according Dontnod canon, and guild didn's separate the girls, both of them were able to overcame that)
Furthermore they promised us that Max would have a different trauma in both endings. But she ends up having the same trauma - she loses Chloe in Bay, and she loses Chloe in Bae, and the overall plot of her having to move on from Chloe. Like, WTF?
As a great narator in a block game back in 2015 once said:
"Nothing built can last forever"
XD
the truth really made me hurt but chloe was trying to have the best for them both..
well…. at least we have the comics? this game can be our, “now what if shit got even WORSE for these two timeline”
sucks that it’s the one we’ll consider “canon” for the games even though both are. i hate this so much.
I’ll hold my judgement until I see the full game
@@DomTheBomb haha thats just how I sorta see it right now, hopefully they explain it more than "we broke up, that's the end of it"
No, they just explained it as Max being stuck in the past and Chloe wanting to move on. Which is a retcon.
This is why saving chloe isn't canon sorry. If you chose that you missed the point of the game people. It was about Rachel. Her spirit wanted Chloe's sacrifice recognized, and just as I predicted, Maya had Safi's sacrifice recognized same deal.
Nope. Saving Chloe was always a canon ending (as was the other one) and it was never meant to lead to a breakup (as Dontnod explicitly established)
Furthermore YOU missed the point of the story.
I never was a big Chloe fan, but i do hope she can come back in future episodes so those who do can get closure (although please make her more likable in this one I beg you)
Can see you have bad taste..
@TheMildrek hey, just my opinion, everyone has a different one. I personally have just found each game to be an improvement over the previous one (with the exception of Double Exposure, which is not nearly as good as True Colors imo)
Why even bring back Max if Chloe gets wiped away. Should've made a new protagonist Max's new power
I don’t disagree with that if they can’t respect both endings than just leave her be
Atleast they end up in the comics for once 😕
Good thing i didn't saved Chloe, she was unbearable
Respect for your choice!
See the ending was always about moving on and not stucking in the past

Moreover, Dontnod has twice established that BOTH girls moved on together. They talked about it shortly after the finale and established it again in LIS2
They messed up with them breaking up but at least they got some chat that seems there still best friends and maybe work things out with the way they were talking through the messages
All the messages were made before the breakup and if you take the friendship route you'll see that they killed even their friendship.
@zeratulzeratulovich6597 at least in the last chapters she sent some messages to max
I feel like they didn’t believe this idea of a new LIS game was going to be good so they decide it to go for the nostalgia way
It’s fair
So, this means we won't see Max and Chloe together in another game again.:(😢😭.
Probably ):
/: jesus the relationship got Really ugly just from reading the text i can tell "the fight" must of been gnarly
Wish we could have seen more a bit lazy they didn’t expand on it more but I understand if it’s really traumatic
