I think them breaking up doesnt make sense. She sacrificed the whole town for her, and Chloe did changed after that. I can belive Chloe would be so remorceful that she would developed some type of broblems, but It is inconsistance with Life is strange 2. Chloe did changed. So them growing aprat or breaking apart and never speaking again at least once for few years.
To everyone who's saying things like "it's realistic they broke up" or "grow up that's real life" - actually last time I checked this is a fictional game with time travel lol. Is it so hard to imagine that two queer women get to happily grow old together despite their experiences?
Nobody flinches when Percy and Annabeth from PJO, childhood lovers end up together. But the moment it’s between two girls? Oooh then it’s REALISM that they abruptly end their love
I can imagine letting an entire town die when they know you could've stopped it puts a little strain on the relationship. it was Chole who wanted Max to go back and let her die to fix it, in fact the choice where Chole is still alive accounts for this in a letter you can find.
Im glad our chloe choice effects the game at least i would have hate if sudenly i hear chloe is alive in my game when im sure i sacrificed her to save the town in the last one
This game would’ve been so much better if the protagonist had been literally ANYONE ELSE (the game seems pretty good so far I just wish max wasn’t the one we follow around)
There were rumors that Deck Nine was thinking about bringing Alex back from True Colors. I can imagine that Square Enix might have pressured them into choosing Max instead considering everyone begging for more Max and Chloe since Season 2 released in 2018 (6 years ago now which is crazy). I think Alex would've been the better choice (we probably would've gotten to see the other characters again like Steph). And like I'm glad to see Max again, but it's obvious that a lot of fans are upset about no Chloe and Ashly Burch not returning to voice her. If the Alex thing was true, then it seems like their choice of choosing Max just backfired. On the other side, I agree with a comment that said how each new Life Is Strange game should be a new protagonist. It also just makes sense that way too.
@@BrandonL_00 it's crazy because once they mention the bands, I kind of instantly thought about Alex & Steph making some kind of cameo. Would be interesting seeing Alex interact with Max but that might be a LiS thing where every protagonists doesn't directly interact. As for the band thing well it's only campus bands but could be wrong. As for Alex being the MC again it would've been more fitting because Max is kind of viewed more like a professor than a student once her peers start calling her Miss Claufied & the simeninars are mentioned. I think the main reason they went with Max is so they could do the dimension rifts but they could've easily given Alex or even Daniel those powers within a college campus setting. Would've made more sense but nostalgia is at it's peak in the gaming industry right now so yeah
@@BrandonL_00 yes!! Exactly this like I love max and I always have but it seems to forced to give her a whole new life where she and Chloe don’t even talk. I think a max appearance would’ve been the best of both worlds but this kinda feels like a way to profit from long term fans. I hope the next few chapters give us reason to be following max!
Anyone who tries to defend this "breakup" should replay LIS1 and BTS. This isn't what Chloe would ever do. Never. And why did the developers lie that they will respect the bae ending if both choices are basically the same? You are without Chloe forever. Why is there an option button here then? They fking lied because they knew half of the playerbase is into Chloe, and they didn't dare to admit that they will cut her out of the story.
Grow up. This is exactly how it may end for a lot of BFFs. This is so real that it kinda hurts, but it does feel REAL, at least. Besides even LIS1 ending shows Max confusion when they leave Arcadia Bay. Not a surprise it has grown into obsession and guilt that were pushing Chloe away, the same for Chloe who constantly remembers Joyce. And that's all without a mention that people DO get tired from each other. It's normal.
@@mrlferer so now we call out for reality yeah? :D then take out time travel and supernatural events as well, shall we? or "realism" only starts and ends when we lose Chloe anyways?
@@danielhambalko7288 because the "canon" end was so devisive, they chose to go the route that neither is to pacify everyone. Also, DeckNine took the series from DontNod.. it was never originally meant to be a series, but a standalone game. Them continuing it, to the point of bringing max back, caused a huge continuity mess because technically, nothing outside of LiS 1 and possibly BtS is in anyway canon, including the comics because they only came after due to the popularity the game generated. But in answer of your question, it was the only realistic not horrible way to do it storywise to try to avoid pissing too many people off.
@@elikri9265 yea people like you keep saying it was "realistic" - but your realism starts and ends with the breakup right? What about time travel, is that realistic? Are you going to go against that as well? The creators could literally say that Chloe is abroad on a concert trip and Max is chasing career. Chloe doesn't even have to appear in the game, just send a few lovely texts to her. THAT'S ALL. Is this really impossible to do? Or to make her appear in the LAST second? Nothing would have change from story wise, but breaking them up is against the players' decisions, against canon and against the characters.
It actually make sense for them to break up if you pick Chloe lives. Imagine the guilt of this person choosing you and sacrificing an entire town with a lot of people who doesnt deserve to die, and that was against Chloe's wishes as well, she wanted to fulfill her destiny but Max disobeyed her.
Real. My cousin literally married her highschool sweetheart. “But max and Chloe breaking up is realistic! It’s more about real life!” But I just listened an example from REAL LIFE that debunked it. Sooo why do they want a game about TIME TRAVELLING POWERS to be more realistic than a legitimate real life event? Weird.
Morality is subjective and yes many ppl would sacrifice 100s of ppl for one person they loved whether its ur family or just someone you’ve bonded with like this isnt a new discovery so idk why they didnt actually try expand on that ending in this story instead of just saying “they broke up”
people saying that for this they prefer the timeline where chloe dies is kinda weird. i too am a fan of the pricefield ship and think for the first game it makes a lot of sense but to say that it is only worth it if they stay together for the rest of their lifes is kinda not it for me. people do grow apart and change even after all that they went through. so to say its either they stay together till the end of time OR chloe has to die is not the best approach. A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts. It's a privilege to be among them.
But it's unrealistic because a chance of breaking up after all they've been through is VERY SLIM in the first place. The longer you are together the lesser the chance of that happening ever and they've been extremaly devoted to each other. People don't just grow apart it's a series of choices and Chloe would NEVER let herself drift away from Max. She isn't that kind of person
@@Katie-bz4ls well first of all chloe isnt "a person". shes a fictional character in a video game so to say she wouldnt do this or that is difficult/hard to say as everyone has their own version of her in their mind. but i see where you are coming from. and again i loved their relationship in the first game and i know depending on your decisions, david talked about them being together in the second game and that was really cute. but to say just because people experienced traumatic stuff together makes it impossible for them to later break up/ grow apart isnt true (same for the longer being together the lesser the chance of splitting up). for example if chloe realized that while she might love max, it just is too much for her to know HOW MUCH/MANY max sacrificed in order to safe her, i think its not unrealistic for them to grow apart over that. because chloe would always have to live with that and would constantly think about it and trying to make it "worth" it in order to feel less of a burden. and then being with max would remind her of that and (obv not granted) might even make her resent her a little at times. with all that said i dont think its an "unrealistic" approach or a misreprensation of her character. and still it hurts and i get that. i mean their relationship has been a thing in the community for 10 years, so yeah them breaking up is a weird feeling. its hard to not get that fairytale ending for them we all thought they would have. but at least for me it doesnt take any of their story away from the first game or lessens it so i guess i can make my peace with it. i hope i could get my point across as english isnt my first language.
@@hamsterik. But it is true (there is a research) that the longer you are together the lesser the chance of splitting up. Moreover stats being stats it all depends on people and their devotion to each other. Some people would never break up because there is nothing more important than the other person and thus they would always work things out. I've been married a long time to a childhood friend and i know it first hand that the chance of you ever growing apart after going through so much together is slim to none if you are truly devoted. Moreover it depends on a person again and how you see Chloe but for me they wouldn't struggle too much with sacrificing other people because Chloe WANTED to be chosen and to be someone's first choice. She wouldn't have to think about it all the time because she could accept it and move on and believe it was worth it because she would do the same for Max. That's how i and my wife would deal with it. So yes it is unrealistic because the chance of breaking up after that is extremaly low. Every relationship you have after that would never come close to the strenght you've had with that person because they literally met in their fotmative years and gave everything for each other. How could anyone be more important if you share things like that? Again we have research proving that the more you've been through together the more solid you relationship is and the lesser chance you would leave it because you've already invested so much and been through so much with that person so yeah, it is very unlikely especially with Chloe being UTTERLY loyal person that spend years writing to Max and thinking about her and even saying she would take her back in a heartbeat if Max showed up
@@Katie-bz4ls first of all really happy for you and nothing but the best for you and your wife. and again as a i said its really hard to get to the one defintive answer of how chloe would react as there a million different version of her in all of our minds. all wanna say is that while there is date proving your point, i dont think my point is wrong. yes shes loyal and loving but she also has abandonment issues and was always a bit hot headed. i think if it came down to it and that feeling of burden and resentment would overpower her she would rather "save" max from that, than to take her down with her and make it even more painful. every person and every experience is unique so there is no right or wrong in how to deal with that. maybe they would have split up maybe they wouldnt. also there is a 10 year gap we dont really see so we dont know how they have been in that time and what they experienced in that time that maybe led to this decision. again i would have preferred them not breaking up as well but ultimately happy ever after doesnt make for a good story most of the times. so if we want to see more of max i can understand why the writers went with that route.
To anyone who chose the just friends or breaking up option... damn. Yall must not have any idea what LiS1 was like. The only sensible choice is that Chloe died, because them breaking up seems impossible! Unless this story takes place in a different timeline. I honestly thought the break up choice was just a cover up to not talk about her death, that Chloe canonically is dead either way in this game and timeline. But after watching this, that is crazyyyyyy they would let THAT be the way chloe "lives" by making them break up
My Max and Chloe are just friends because I chose Max and Warren to have a romance in LIS1. Actually, I'm angry because they don't even care to mention Warren since they said they were going to respect the endings of the first game so why not respect the players' choice of Max being with Warren and not only being attracted to girls? As in other games where there is an interest of both sexes for the protagonist. I didn't want to see too many spoilers, but is there even a romance option for Max other than Amanda?
Someone in a different video's comments said that Square Enix hated Chloe and didn't want the character in the game. And apparently they also had issues with Ashly Burch, Chloe's VA. That's probably why they decided to go in this route and remove Chloe completely from the game. If it wasn't for something like that, I doubt they'd completely cut out a character when majority of the fans want the character to make a return and want Max and Chloe together. But I also have a theory. What if Chloe is actually going to be an important part of this story and connected with Safi's murder which is why they aren't talking about Chloe at all when they can clearly see that everyone has questions about her. They haven't officially said Chloe won't be returning to the game. They even hired a new voice actress for Chloe. I doubt they'd do that just to redo a few of her lines from the first game if she doesn't have a bigger role.
They literally can't hire Ashly Burch to voice because she's in a voice actor's union, one of the rules is all the cast have to be part of the union (that would rule out Max's VA Hannah Telle, and others). It's the same issue they had with Before the Storm, although they were able to get Ashly Burch as a writer.

The scene would have had more impact if Max had answered the question truthfully. And it could have caused a bigger and bigger lump in his throat with every sentence.
“Her name is Chloe and she died a violent death.”
“She died without her knowing I loved her.”
“I was with her when she died.”
“I did everything in my power to save her, but in the end I had to let her go.”
However, whether this fits Max's character is another question.
I think them breaking up doesnt make sense. She sacrificed the whole town for her, and Chloe did changed after that. I can belive Chloe would be so remorceful that she would developed some type of broblems, but It is inconsistance with Life is strange 2. Chloe did changed. So them growing aprat or breaking apart and never speaking again at least once for few years.
literally so real not to mention chloe had serious abandonment issues why in the world would SHE break up with max ?? and over a letter too..

Im glad our chloe choice effects the game at least i would have hate if sudenly i hear chloe is alive in my game when im sure i sacrificed her to save the town in the last one
this game is actually so beautiful! and writing is nice... back to Life a Strange era!!
Writing is ass dude
Um, Los never left. I liked the idea of the powers with new characters every entry.
I use to love how the ending was so open to interpretation, letting us as fans choose how the story goes next in our own minds. I think a max appearance would’ve been the best of both worlds but this kinda feels like a way to profit from long term fans. I hope the next few chapters give us reason to be following max!
Samee i wish they kept the trend of new protagonist every game going
Thanks for this!

Max: I switched shampoos!
Max is me lol
i cant believe they made them breaking up. that sucks ...im not playing this game
@@mrlferer this is a video game. People wanna see a story they enjoy.
Chloe died for me, you mess with time, time messes back.
Meh, Harambe died, Earth kept spinning. Who knows really.
It actually make sense for them to break up if you pick Chloe lives. Imagine the guilt of this person choosing you and sacrificing an entire town with a lot of people who doesnt deserve to die, and that was against Chloe's wishes as well, she wanted to fulfill her destiny but Max disobeyed her.
i understand wanton chloe back, but there’s 3 more chapters we’ve yet to see you guys.
I hate how people's instant reaction is to normalize Chloe and Max breaking up, like-- come on. -_- You people seriously don't believe in love
People who genuinely care about Life is Strange are pissed, the others don't know what they're talking about
Weird.
@@melodicaheart415 Girl destroying a town for her.. It seems like a pretty big commitment right there
Morality is subjective and yes many ppl would sacrifice 100s of ppl for one person they loved whether its ur family or just someone you’ve bonded with like this isnt a new discovery so idk why they didnt actually try expand on that ending in this story instead of just saying “they broke up”
people saying that for this they prefer the timeline where chloe dies is kinda weird. i too am a fan of the pricefield ship and think for the first game it makes a lot of sense but to say that it is only worth it if they stay together for the rest of their lifes is kinda not it for me. people do grow apart and change even after all that they went through. so to say its either they stay together till the end of time OR chloe has to die is not the best approach.
What happens if you chose to save her in the original version
There's comics actually!
The whole town of Arcadia Bay is wiped off the map. . . so both of their loved ones and peers have to die, in order to save chloe....

But after watching this, that is crazyyyyyy they would let THAT be the way chloe "lives" by making them break up
yo let me decide about my Max myself ok
I'll decide how Chloe ends up ok? Because then what would be the point of the ending and the easter egg in LIS 2?
@@luisiana1121 Can you explain?
