It is important to remember that with glucagon, if there are insufficient glycogen stores in the liver, it won't work. This might happen if the patient has chronic hypoglycemia, or there has been recent illness/vomiting etc. If the patient isn't responding to it this could be why.
Also, glucagon can make the patient really nauseous and they may vomit after it is administered. Just something to be aware of.

Yes, vomiting & nausea are definitely adverse reactions.
Hello, why is it contraindicated give glucagon to people who have a hypersensitivity to pork and beef?
I love the video but I am confused…how is inability to receive glucose (IV, oral, etc) both an indication and contraindication?
Hey Brian! I could definitely see how that is confusing. The ideal treatment for hypoglycemia is dextrose through means of oral glucose, IV dextrose or rectal dextrose, but if you are unable to give dextrose through those means.......then Glucagon is an option. With that being said if you give Glucagon, you need to be able to get them to a hospital or keep trying to give them dextrose through the above mentioned routes. I should have just put that as a side note and not a contraindication, so sorry for the confusion!
