he's only 34. kinda surprising he's retiring so early
If you knew his career and style of play - especially on the artificial turf in Tampa and then Toronto, you'd know there are a lotta hard miles on that 34 year old body. It's not easy for him to get out there anymore with his nagging injuries.
Plus his batting production is way down, so even his still elite defensive play is not enough to keep him in the lineup regularly.
And I'm sure a multiple Gold Glove and a Platinum Glove winner doesn't want to be a tag along.

@@aupotter2584 He announced it months ago. The word is the years of patrolling center field mostly on artificial turf have taken a toll on his body. Maybe the fun of playing on this team, however, will have him reconsider retirement after this season.
@@gregengel1616 Oh, what a pity! His overhead catch of the fly ball at CF tonite was spectacular and definitely gives a lot confidence to the pitcher and other defenders.
