It's been four months since my last drone show reel and I've shot a lot and learnt a lot and I've had my aerial footage on the web, in documentaries and on television since then. So here are a few shots from my summer, all round Scotland and many shots of the beautiful Cairngorms:)
I am a qualified UAV Pilot and all CAA rules have been adhered too in the shooting of this film. I am close to people as they are in my control and are there to be filmed by me.
I stay away from roads and built up areas apart from the trains. The Steam train (normally an illegal shot) I had permission of The Strathspey Railway company and the drivers were aware and I had a chaperone from the company with me at all times to show me what I had permission to film. The funicular Railway, I had permission through Cairngorm Mountain Operations and people in shot are in my control again.
The legal limits for flight are 500m horizontally and 400ft vertically. I have my controller set to stop me flying outwith this. If I want a longer flight I wear black and hide in the middle of a shot which can allow me to fly 500m either side of me so I can do a 1000m flight if I need. Hope that helps as there have been a few questions from other drone pilots:)

I lived my first 29 years in Nairn, I had a special connection with the Aviemore area, but wish I had spent more time around the Cairngorms.....

+addgrav That's always a tricky thing with a showreel of what I can do with my drone and filming. Trying to fit in a variety of shots of different things and areas and conditions:) Also something to hold the attention of people. You sound like the perfect audience and would happily watch more, which is great. My next film which involves other cameras too (not just from the air) has much longer shots:) May have to wait until after a film festival before it makes it here:) Thanks for watching.

Hahaha thanks for that. Yes you see thumbs done on almost everything these days haha. Thankfully the huge majority is thumbs or i might have to re-think what I'm doing lol:) Just working on a drone showreel for my foreign trips just now:)

If you play 'Gimme Shelter' by The Rolling Stones in the background and play this at the same time, it goes together almost too well.
Excellent footage there I only wish I can get this standard one day . This type of footage is what I hope to achieve by showing Scotland to the world . just waiting on my Quadcopter to arrive then next is to get certified. Thanks agian for the footage it's inspired me to get out there

Great work, beautiful shots. Is there any chance you would consider doing a film in Edinburgh. My idea is to have skateboarder's flying from the castle to the bottom of the royal mile then possibly a big pan up to the crags and a short mountain bike section. This project wouldn't be until next summer as it needs to be shot when the days are at their longest. I want the streets to be completely empty, no music for a lot of the edit just the rumble of the skateboards so it would most likely need microphones. I have been obsessing over this idea for a while and purchased the cheapest drone I could find to get a feel for flying however lost it after just three flights. Cheers mate.
+Liam Campbell Bummer about your drone, some great ideas there Liam. There are some pretty strict rules on flying in the city I doubt it would be possible to get permission for the royal mile without closing it down! Which depending on your budget might be possible, kidding! Much of your film could be possible with steady cams maybe?.
