Who's watching this after The legend of country music Kenny Rogers passed away. As much as I will always love Kenny's version I must say Blake did a good job.
This just proves what I've always said about Blake right from the beginning. If anybody could sing anyone's songs, it's Blake Shelton. He nailed this Kenny Rogers classic, nailed the Elvis classic, Suspicious Minds; Kenny Loggins classic, Footloose; amongst others. Great job, Blake. Love it. :)
@@oscarlandrum thank you, that was very kind! I don’t chat much on here! I just happen to be a music lover, it is my first love! Hope you are having a lovely day!
And in his final words... I found Aces. Yes I did Dad. The very first song I remember hearing with you and 40 plus years later in our final days together this song played for the both of us, and I realized it was never about a poker player, but about a son and father's relationship. I will hold the aces tight dad. Thank you and love you.
I've never listened to anything by Blake Shelton and thought I would try this because Kenny Rogers was an awesome country singer. Blake definitely did a good job.
Blake Shelton did a really great job. Kenny Rogers would be proud of this performance 👏. No one will take Kenny's place. Kenny just had that voice. He'll forever be missed. But Blake you did good 👍
He gave Kenny Rogers a spectacular run for his money with his cover of this masterpiece!! Dang!! Didn't know Blake Shelton has such a wonderful voice and it has such great range too. 3-29-2020
This song and every country song is very easy for Blake....he’s to good.....you should listen to his cover of “She talks to Angels” or the duet with Christina Aguilera “Just a Fool “ or even some of his mega smash hits....he’s to good
Old school Blake, in his pre-Voice days when he still had the mullet and cowboy hat! I had never seen this performance before, but he definitely did justice to one of the greatest country songs of all-time!
Singers have a tendency to change songs to fit their style, which (more often than not) destroys the song. It's a breath of fresh air to see him sing it like it should be. Nice rendition!
I do believe this version is just as good as the original from '78. And that's kind of hard to do. Taking a classic that most ALL country fans know the words to and delivering it with the same grace and warmth that Kenny did way back when. Good job Blake! Good job indeed.
Well, even if he s not The One Kenny Rogers,The absolute Gambler, i ve listened three x at least the Blake Shelton s version. Stunning is adequate for describing it. Brilliant, no doubt brilliant. Everything is right and powerful. Mixture of soul and wisdom as it meant to be. Goood tribute for Kenny as well.
"Somewhere in the darkness, the Gambler he broke even. But in his final words, I found an Ace that I could keep." The song has many interpretations and can be used as a metaphor for life. What a song!
Lyrics :
On a warm summer's evenin'
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with a gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us
And he began to speak
He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"
So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right"
You've got to know
When to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
Now, every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep"
So when he'd finished speakin'
He turned back towards the window
Crushed out his cigarette
An' faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler, he broke even
But in his final words I found
An ace that I could keep
You got to know
When to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
You've got to know
When to hold 'em
(When to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em
(When to fold 'em)
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
Very good job blake 😘💙
Great Job Blake..
Grrrrreat job Blake!!!
Very, very good!!! 👍

NO ONE will ever replace Kenny. But Blake did awesome with this song.

So true
I had kenny rodgers song straight before this almost a perfect match.

A very good one even
Indeed he did
This cover is the best thing this dude has ever done.
A brilliant tribute to the late Kenny Rodgers.
Blake Shelton has got the right voice for the Gambler Country song
Blake is as good as anyone not named Kenny Rogers. He can't hit the depths Kenny can plumb, but it's a good facsimile.
Blake sings it well. However, NOBODY could ever sing it better then kenny. He owned The Gambler.
Almost always the first is the best. In fact I can only think of two that weren't
True!
Although this sounds really good!
Agree
No one can sing this song like Kenny but Blake was in fire with this song
I love that Blake didn't try to change it, to make it his own, but sang it the way it was meant to be sang. Love it!!
Love it. :)

Amazing fantastic song Blake. hi Anne
