    you should not be encouraging support for shark fin soup, as there are no benefits to consuming it and it has caused a huge decline in the shark population as most sharks die after losing their fins.

  • @jasonbean7296
    @jasonbean7296 8 лет назад +34

    please avoid shark fin. it's a waste. the fin is removed and the shark left to die. they are a collectively protected set of species. I used to enjoy shark sandwiches, not on the menu anymore. frankly, I feel a bit smug to eat something that might have eaten me. but there are plenty of actual fish in the sea.

      Also, in my opinion shark fin doesn't take like anything to me. Especially in shark fin soup, I paid around $90 for "shark fin soup" but they should have called it water with a bit of salt.

  • @jf76
    @jf76 8 лет назад +81

    The problem with shark fin soup is that they cut off the fin from live sharks and just toss them back into the water.

    • @jamesjiao
      @jamesjiao 8 лет назад +20

      Yeah.. I don't have problem with shark fin as a food item per se.. it's just the way the sharks are treated after the fins are cut off. It's cruel and wasteful.

    Bird Nest Soup ( tổ yến) together with Sharks Fin ( vi cá mập) , abalone soup ( bào ngư) & ginseng is top 4 Vietnam traditional foods which is very expensive & high nutritive substances

  • @sophiapang7708
    @sophiapang7708 8 лет назад +6

    the bird's nest business is one I can't get behind as well as shark fin. they both have little to no nutritional value. also birds nest is dangerous to collect, causing falls and deaths of those who climb the caves. like shark fin soup or ivory, this industry is endangering these birds and is fueled by greed to the point where baby birds die because their last nest is taken. lastly, every time a nest is taken, the bird has to make another nest until eventually the saliva turns red, causing stress and harm to the mothers. it's one of those delicacies Chinese ppl grew up eating and ppl are now beginning to realize how silly of a dish it is. My mum even said it's such a waste of money, and it's not as common anymore to eat it. I would say a lot of delicacies are silly and unnecessary, this is def one of them.

    I'm from Canada. However, I love balut! It's something I grew up eating. Another delicacies that's popular in the Philippines is Pork Blood Stew called dinuguan! It's eaten with jasmine rice and sometimes rice cakes. It's usually served in a lot of Filipino Parties specially during Christmas. Another one that might be considered as a delicacies is called Sisig. It's made out the pigs face which includes the snout and ears. It's fried with spices til it's crunchy and eaten with rice and beer.

    I've tried chicken feet, pig blood, bird nest, shark fin and chicken ass hahahaha but I stop having shark fin cause it's just brutal . They cut off the fins of the sharks and dump them back into the sea, the Sharks would die of hunger cause they won't be able to swim.

    The ant eggs has a special sour taste similar to...well, nothing else.

    Shirako (白子) is delicious. Snake blood and snake wine is a one time thing. Snake wine tastes like medicine. The blood is bit irony. For me, my favorite small dishes would be raw chicken hearts and liver served with a little sesame oil and salt. Also, monk fish liver (あん肝) tastes like fishy foie gras.

    I'll admit I've tried a couple of these things. Firstly, turtle soup is delicious : ). Secondly, I've drunk rice wine infused with snake gallbladder. I was told after I drank it that the snake gallbladder is a hallucinogenic, which wasn't completely true, though the sensation was different than an alcohol type high. Mind you, this was many many moons ago. Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it.

    I personally love Balut. I first get to try this at the age of 6-7 when I stayed in Philippines for nearly 2 years waiting for the paper works from the US. I continue to eat them later afterward in the US. When buying it, put it up to the light to see which ones you like. I like them a bit younger so less fur and the skull and bones are not super hard to chew on. you still get the long intestines and stuff. Second I love would be silk worms, but I prefer them fresh. When younger I just pick them out of the hot boiling pot after the silk is removed. They taste really milky and soft fresh, but the frozen ones lost all tastes.......I think I ate most of these and love them alot. I think the pig blood fresh take more work, so get the one that is already in cubes. However, I think fresh rabbit and chicken blood mixed with chopped up organs are much better.

    Snake Venom is poisonous if injectors in your blood, not if you drink it, and the bird only use the nest once and that is to raise there young then once chick is grown they abandon the nest and make a new one. There is also a family that farm the nest and has a entire 10 story apartment building for the birds to live in so they come and collect the old nest

    In the Philippines we also have a different dish for pig blood
    It's "Dinuguan" It's Pig blood with vinegar and pig entrails, oregano, and the usual spices, and sometimes mixed with pig meat
    it's like pork stew but with blood, and the blood turns all black and is actually pretty delicious.
    my uncle once roughly translated it to menstruation soup, which is not, just something to make us laugh LOL XD
    and throughout the Philippines we have different variations of Dinuguan so yeah :D
