I am so glad the participants are so open-minded and did not refuse to try any of the dishes. That shows respect to the cultures, and I appreciate that! Good job!
well, Ben was born in HK I think, he speaks fluent Mandarin and he is married to Taiwanese star. So I'd say he is not so Western :D
Slashplite which one is ben
***** The English guy in a suit
*cough* buzzfeed
Does Ben have an Instagram?
I really enjoyed this one, cause for 1, they were explained how to eat those foods and seemed to get a nice version of them, unlike some other channels do (looking at you Buzzfeed!) and 2, they were mostly respectful and polite about their preferences, so I actually enjoyed this video. Wish you did more of these!
Chris is so chill and just enjoys everything lol
Bolun Zhang
Which one is Chris?
The handsome one.
China Uncensored humble too!!
Jetta Driver so humble
If this was a buzzfeed video everyone would be over dramatic and pretty distasteful. Love your videos as usual.
yeah....true.....i liked this vid (except the whiny guy, you know which one)...... much more respectful than buzzfeed
"I liked the first flavor, and then it kept going." My favorite line😂😂😂
omg 😂😂😂every time theyre given water: "is this really water?"
"No. its sea urchin urine"
"ITS WHALE URINE"
i am dying
I love durian. it's nice to see others actually liking it
like it or hate it...... to each his/her own, I guess..... personally, I hate it
Saaame I've been craving durian but it's kinda hard to get some where I'm at
If u want good durians, u have to come to Singapore or Malaysia. The durians are much nicer than those from Thailand.
When you realize one of the white guys knows more about asian culture than you do and youre asian
lol seriously? All the food they ate are extremely popular in the Far East. You fail as an Asian.
damiester1 probably hasn't been to Asia than?
if its the guy in the checks, he hosts a news show on youtube about China and sometimes other Asian Countries, so its ok
Lekshey Dorji the guy at the table with him also... I can't think of his name but he is fluent in, and teaches Chinese.
If you eat honey, you can't complain about sparrow spit haha
stvsueoka1 Thats true lol
I can and I will.
hahaha, so to you, bug barf is better than bird spit even though you've never tried it? is that pretty much what you're saying?
stvsueoka1 yep, because the bee's only been consuming nectar. The sparrow's been eating bugs and worms. Or it would in the wild. I probably don't want to know how the spit is collected, especially if the birds are held captive.
hahaha cool cool ... but a little food for thought ... bees also consume insecticide (otherwise known as poison) :) .... ever see what happens to honey when bees get into a bunch of blue m&ms? it's not just nectar. annnnyway, worms are filled with protein! hahaha
That bird's nest drink is worth $$$. Savor it! I only get to have it once a year. :(
i would eat it straight. small kind addicted to it....
once you go century egg, you don't come back
best way to eat an century egg is with porridge or with pickled ginger aka gari.
I eat century eggs with vinegar. Good that way. Never had birds nest soup before. Too expensive.
i dont eat most of these things lol but thank you for being respectful of what other people or culture eats even though it may seem weird lol
maikor3 Agreed!
The best thing to do is swallow the whole thing without having to taste it.
Epic. I loved how in one shot someone would be fighting a stomach reflex and the other is just thoroughly enjoying it.
I might try Durian and that spam thing, but will pass on the rest.
Recently had hot pot for the first time (no fish for me) and that was just heaven.
Sooooo niiice to see a vid like this with some proper knowledgeable and open-minded people
While everyone else is like mmm delicious about the octopus Ben is low key sounding like a hissing cat LOL
The people were so open minded and sweet, also amazingly funny, but weren't trying too hard- unlike buzz feed- they were actually funny~ really loved this video
I clicked when I saw the nem chua lol. Where my vietnamese people at?
SAME.
one of them called it primal and I was like... BUT BABY CRAB CHIPS?!
procrasTINAtion I'm not Vietnamese but Chinese and nem is my LIFE
Duy Truong I tried Baby Crabs once. Actually it tastes good. Very crunchy and savory. I'm a picky eater tho
Not Vietnamese but nem chua is amazing don't know what they were talking about
Ynn Lk cool. I'm part Chinese. I feel like people in my area wouldn't know what nem is unless they have Vietnamese friends that really like it lol
isn't that guy from China Uncensored
Ayaan Khan It's part of their channel
which is why i didn't understand why he didn't know a lot of those stuff....
Andrew Yonkie, but you grew up in a western society, right?....
Yay! Finally someone who likes durian!
"Probably the best boiled egg I've ever had.... Because I HATE boiled eggs"
.... Bwahaahaaahaaaa!!!!!! Best RUclips quote I've heard today (& that's saying ALOT).
Cris Chappel??!!
"You don't know if its actual rot, or just because it's durian" LOL
Why am I watching this with the stomach flu?
Loved rainbow t shirt guy's attitude!
I love that they knew and liked durian. Respect.
Hello OTGW crew I love your videos sooo much ❤❤ you guys always run the life to the party lol
It's really interesting to see people eat 'weird Asian snacks' when I eat them pretty often and love it.
"I could put this on my resume!" LMAO
My grandmother forced me to drink bird's nest, and I used to think that it was literal bird's nest and spent the rest of the day think of how they made it
All of these are good, I enjoy them personally. I love that these people aren't extreme compared to other videos I've seen..
I love how Dan just plops the 번데기 down without saying anything ksndfhwiagjorwih just plops it down and walks away lmao
Everyone the new and improved buzzfeed is now available to watch
I wonder how many will get offended for someone not liking their favorite dish and be completely
immature about it. >_>
Wade Wilson Give them credit for trying new foods. I respect them for that.
TheKaiTetley No I am its just that alot of people get offended if you don't like what they do. Which is ridiculous.
lol I did find it funny that the South Asian dude's only comments in the entire video was about how the food smelt bad. There was nothing on the taste, appearance or texture from him.
This was great, I hope you do more of these soon. 😃
"You are a bastard" help im crying 😭
That guy with the ampex shirt was the boss
Bird nests are nests made out of bird saliva. And since the birds actually lie in there, that explains why there are little hairs in the nest. It's incredibly expensive and there are different types of it too. The more red it is, the more expensive. Also it has a grading, the less A's it has, the better quality. So AAA would be better quality than AAAAA. My mom buys it all the time and usually spends more than $200 for the boxes. We prepare it with rock sugar so there will be a sweet flavor instead of it being bland.
Giggling at the thumbnail. So satisfied already 😂😂😂😂
Beer is the best fluid to wash down the dried crab, as well as the dried octopus.
the guy with the ampex shirt is definitely an optimist. hes awesome!
"I like how he is looking at me. I win" fucking died there xD
After eating the bug: oh you can actually put that on salad. No im gonna put that on my resume 😂😂😂
"Everything from Asia is fishy" ROFLMAODMH!!!
ps. I think all of the guys paired together host their own Asian themed RUclips channels.
The guy in the check shirt is Chris Chappell, he hosts China Uncensored.
The guy in the jacket beside him: I don't know his name, but he's fluent in, and teaches Chinese.
I'm pretty sure they're all RUclips hosts. I think they're in a collective RUclips Studio making this.
I've seen canned silkworms in Asian grocery stores... I've considered getting a can to try... UNTIL they opened the can!!!
"I'll spit it into your mouth" HAHAHAHA
I'm Chinese and grew up with most of the snacks featured, or a variation of them. I would live to try the crabs. They look fun. Octopus is chewy no.matter how it's prepared. I still like it. The nem chu, love that. I get some everytime I stop in for my favorite Vietnamese deli sandwich. The Durian? I think it's cheating. I've never had it, but I know the actual fruit is custardy. The guys had it disguised in a cake, so I don't think they REALLY tried it. Silkworms? Maybe if they were fried they'd look more appealing. LOVE jellyfish with red vinegar! As kids, we'd pretend we were eating rubberbands. Expensive stuff. Bird's nest, usually in a soup. I know where and how it comes from. I opt out, thank you. Lastly, the thousand year old egg. It's done well if the yolk is actually runny. I think some people are put off by it first thing because of the strong sulfuric, almost ammonia smell. Get pass that and put it in congee, like Ben said, or, I like to let it sit for a few minutes in pickled shallots or ginger and soy sauce, with a bit of sesame oil before eating it. Mmm yum!
My thoughts on their thoughts? It's ok not to like something. You are commended for trying it and giving your thoughts. But try not to say "disgusting" right off the bat, please. That is actually offensive. Maybe "I don't like it" or "That's not for me" or "I don't think so" might do better. As a Knight once said, "Choose wisely." Just an opinion.
Other than that, thank you to Off the Great Wall and it's affiliated channels and friends for bringing the Asian culture to those who might otherwise not have the opportunity to learn and appreciate it all. I have absolutely learned a lot about being Chinese because of you guys. Thank you!
The insect undergoing metamorphosis is my favourite, their internal organs all liquified and when you fry them or marinate them, the liquid hardens and form entire pure protein chunk. It's very nutritious.
The thousand year old egg or how ever many years you think it has been through, you are eating it wrong. One way is cook it into other dishes for example the egg porridge. But when eating as a snack, you need to sit it with rice vinegar and fresh ginger stripes for a couple of minutes to react with some of the byproducts.
I think some of the stuff are better and a lot less fishy if you eat them fresh and cooked properly. For example the jellyfish you got is definitely not fresh. I'm not saying it has gone pass the best use before, it's just the way they process those are not good enough.
kudos to the dude in the video cassette shirt. the real hero of the video.
I absolutely LOVE octopus!!!!!!
I love silkworms so much
haha the third group, don't need them, you cuted them so much from the video 😂
I love this please do more taste testing vlogs.
Am I the only one disturbed when they said spam cuz in my country we call it luncheon meat
6:05 yes! this man realized it !
I survived my mom cooking nothing what Asian could throw at me can scare me.
Sufkopp82 Even Deed Fried Scorpions and Tarantulas? And Boiled Silk worm pupas?
i enjoyed this much more then i thought i would
Bird's nest is super expensive. Like high quality vanilla bean, truffle and saffron plus more depending on the quality. It's super dangerous to collect and tedious to get the impurities out. But yah, when the plate full of stir fried silk worms come out, squeamish.
Love everything from the sea! 😁
Ben's face when you told him it was sparrow spit! XD
When I eat century eggs, they're added into porridge/congee or cut up into small pieces and put into chow mien. I haven't seen or heard of anyone eat century eggs as a snack! o.o
Its so funny because ive been watching this channel forever, and they got the whitest people for this.
You got the China Uncensored guys: good on ya!
Great video guys! that was soooo funny!
1:33 "ugh, i do not like this. pls take it away" reminds me of Green Eggs and Ham lol
I really like chicken soup congee with sliced century eggs.
All the guy next to the girl did was whine. Hahahaha but I love the guy with the AMPEX shirt he's so open minded & happy about trying the different foods
I love nem chua, it's so good
ahhhh! I love jellyfish!
OMG durians!!!! They are awesome!!!!!😆😆
I'd eat probably all of this, except pork. I only tried durian cake and dried octopus, its delicious.
"Oh smell that durian...! (pleasure face)" Jajajajaja
Here from China Uncensored. You should do more videos with Chris.
Funny! I can understand the responses!
Durian is so good. I just don't know why some people smell it like garbage or nasty things. It smells so sweet and fruity to me
Durian is called the king of all fruit
Who else loves all these? I do!!!!
Why am I laughing so hard 😂😂😂😂
These guys are hilarious! Where did you find them? 😂
Omg I dies ahaha...I laughed so hard....one of the guys in the black suit...poor him..he was trying so hard not to puke on camera...his comment though...lol...he could put it on his resume ahaha....
7:13 when u realize it's Ben from +Learn Chinese Now
Durian!!! sigh I miss that corpse fruit so much.
u cant tell if it is rotton or just Duran lol love it soo true lol
YAS!! DURIAN!!
P.s WHERE MY VIETNANESE PEOPLE AT?!?!?
I love jellyfish!
Aww. I thought they would try balut (in the picture) but they didn't.
The only time I've had century eggs was at a hotel restaurant in Kaili, Guizhou Province, and it was served in the form of a delicious soup with a delicious broth and was full of veggies and spices. Even the egg tasted great, but would probably have tasted different if not for the other ingredients! What do plain century eggs taste like, anyway?
Dude in the Ampex shirt is my favourite kind of person :')
the west-asian guy is saying bird saliva is disgusting when they mash up ants and their larvae, especially embryonic eggs.
One dude sounds so much like Ron Swanson I'm inclined to eat whatever he says
at least they ate it and didn't refuse
*See's Durain...*
Me: Better not say anything about it!
the durian reaction surprise me the most .-.
Baby dried crabs? Dried baby crabs!
Oh, chris chapell
I like the crabs!
I'm an Asian American and I never tried any of these snacks ;_; except for the black eggs I eat it in chao (congee, rice porridge)
I'm just happy that they actually like the nem chua #viet but I don't get how they say durian kinda stinks tho it smells so good to me😂
I'm Vietnamese, love nem chua and durian.
I love nem chua, century eggs, balut (in moderation) but hate durian...
Bobbius Shadow
Durian is really polarizing. Many native Doutheast Asians dislike/hate durian too. As for balut, I like it.
Don't do what the Buzzfeed guys are doing, OTGW. You're too good for that.
I like them all except for the silkworms and saliva since I actually know what birds nest is.
this actually had me laughing out loud
I liked the crab and the tako ~ all else made me squirm & laugh at the guinea p- I mean, subjects! "A+" to them for bravery . . .
1) birds nest is a delicacy
2) no dried squid, stinky tofu, bean curd or salted duck? I love salted duck with my porridge but only the whites. I don't like egg yolk of any variety.
