- The “How Many Stops Act” went into effect on Monday. It requires NYPD officers to report age, race, gender and details of certain civilian stops. FOX 5 NY’s Lisa Evers shows us what this means for you and officers on the beat.

There is already a shortage of cops in NYC due to attrition and the inability to find people to fill those positions. Now they’ve come up with yet another way to make an already difficult, and undesirable job less enticing. I am very happy that I live on LI where the cops are not hamstrung by these stupid rules.

Does NYC collect this same info about Perps against victims?
The Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is responsible for maintaining the New York State’s official criminal history records. The agency is the only source of these official records.

This is how you get people to stop reporting crimes so thy can say that crime is down.
what more transparency u need when everything is on body cam. Have an external team log that info from the body cam if you really need it.
Will police be asking the other person these questions or will the officer be making their own determination? If the person stopped is asked to provide the information AND they willfully miss represent themselves, can the officer correct the data? ( Meaning if a W person claims to be B then what? )
Hold on, Maybe the W person identifies as B, and the M identifies as a W.
This can get confusing really quick. Let's not forget, in NYC there are 72 genders.

They already had stop, question & frisk forms.
That's stupid, all they have to do is say it into the radio real quick like they already do. Takes three seconds. Age will be an estimate, and race and gender will be obvious on sight (in most cases). The dispatcher is ready to take the info down upon hearing it. Putting that task in its clerical form on officers is just really dumb.
Wow! I thought this law was in effect all this time cause crime has been skyrocketing this yr! This makes things even worse! Crime will go up even more!

At this point police should only respond to service call the hell with proactive engagement. Policing has become admin work that's why you see so many women doing it now.

It’s entirely about the race. The blacks want to believe that the police also pursue white people, or they want to prove that they are targets because of their race. If my job was to watch for crime on the subway, I’d keep a closer eye on people that aren’t white, and it’s not racism.

Yep no person in their right mind would give in that much paperwork unless your specifically looking for drugs and guns. This effects other types of cases that could be otherwise solved when time is of the matter.

I can see both sides of this argument. On one hand we don't want police having slower response times due to having to fill out excessive forms and on the other hand there needs to be some record of their interactions with the public for many different reasons including, but not limited to, preventing some sort of systemic bias. With the tech available today it shouldn't take but a few seconds. They could have some audio based system that asks the officer some questions, records their answer and then fills out that form on the backend. This isn't a binary situation, we can have both. We can have some sense of accountability, via stat tracking, and not waste an excessive amount an officer's time

In 2017, i was pulled over in my 2015 Charger 10 Times!!! Received ZERO tickets and was never arrested. Just harassed and profiled. Moved to SC later that year. Been pulled over ZERO times since. FNYPD

You don’t get what’s going on here? To fail to ID yourself is a secondary offense, after you been charged with something else. So now failure to ID is going to be interfering with a police duty, grounds for arrest.

A few things. 1) police wear body cameras, why not just have the interactions transcribed from the bodycam? Simple protocol "for the official record could you state your name and blah blah blah" All that typing; and this is if the interactions are smooth lol. Is a cop going to spend 15 minutes trying to get a person's ethnic background and gender ID? 2) adults are required to carry state ID/ driver's license etc. Let's just add the necessary data to that system "here's my ID bam, you have everything now". Lastly at the 1:07 mark, "communities of color and over policing" If a report of shots fired happens on 168th and Webster in the Bronx, does anyone really have to guess who might be the perp? if I'm not mistaken the vast majority of major crimes happen in communities of color and the perps and victims are PEOPLE of color. Yes, I'm sure there are a handful of folks that feel their civil rights are violated but creating measures to appease the press is absurd
It's to appease academics who do not live in these areas. It's mostly middle class homosexuals and women who write these things. People who are now where near crime.

I as a New Yorker am adding to the law that officers have 30 more pages to complete the initial stop including the officers, race, birthday, SSN, and their home address and share all of that information with the citizens they're interacting with.
