My father bought me this kit from tower hobby’s when I was a kid. I asked for a lunch box or a froger. He flipped through the pages of tower talk and said to me bring your grades up and I will buy you the Vanning , the full kit OS 21 vfbr radio and all. That was back in 87 I still have it in the red kyosho bag. Looking for a radio box and shocks so I can restore it. Thanks fo the video great memory’s. I can smell that thing in my mind watching and hearing it go on this video.
Kudos to you for running it having fun without fear of breaking it! Always loved the Vanning and especially the Kyosho Integra. Tower Hobbies marketing department did an incredible job hooking so many kids on these buggies, I memorized their catalogs back in the 80's, even did a book report in the 6th grade on RC cars. lol My first nitro car was an 1/8th scale Hobby Lobby Hunter, the speed was incredible, I remember, when I could keep it running. Love collecting these old vintage cars these days, mostly as shelf queens. Currently have another Hunter, Kyosho Mint Baja, Kyosho Burns and (not so vintage) Losi 8ight buggy. Great hobby.
That OS power. Gotta love it. Doesn't matter how young or old the engine is, they fire right up, they run like clockwork, *and if you floor it you get rooster tails*. Love 'em, and I love seeing this vintage buggy dancing in the snow instead of rotting away on a display shelf.
I remember drooling over that as it sat in a glass case at my local hobby shop when I was a kid back in the 80's. I think they were like $400.00, if not more back then.
Love these old Rs nitro buggys! I had a Varicom Silver fox when i was a kid.11..years old..and after some years of ownership, i sold it...and actually for about 3months ago..i came across the actual car that i had(in a forsale add at some forum here in norway) .25 years later..so now i have My old Silver Fox in my collection!anyways...nice video man!cheers from Stefan, Norway
COOL MAN! I had one too.... if i remember it was always broke in one way or another, traded it for something cant remember what, have to share this with my dad
I am just now trying to restore one, not an easy job, can not find a bumper anywhere. Also i need to change the engine later the muffler is broken. Nice video so thanks
2 more years to go before the next run - hope you put a 2.4GHz radio system in it for that - was testing mine once and it kinda ran away and dented a neighbour's garage door...
I may have to run it sooner than that, but you're absolutely right- I should probably upgrade the radio to a 2.4 prior to even thinking about running it again, since each year the 75mhz band gets "noisier" I'm sure. I guess I'll just go with a Spektrum. Now the question is whether or not to keep a dummy antenna for the nostalgic look.
Yeah it's pretty fun in the snow, though I have to blow everything off with compressed air afterwards and lube friction points, it does have steel parts that will rust if not cared for. I've since bought a Kyosho Blizzard to play with in the snow, these are also a lot of fun, plus the kids can drive it.
It wasn't that bad, however the pilot shaft is too long for the Vannings stock spur/clutch alignment, so you have to replace the stock crank with a threaded crank from the os marine version of this motor. You then need either a Duratrax or os thrust washer for a .21. Mine had an aftermarket head with larger fins, had to trim that for clearance for the sidebar and had to trim the carb body a little for chain clearance. It's shoehorned in there, but it works so much better than the original motor (which blew up!) and I love having the pull start- no more friction disk mess.
I had even considered installing a true gasoline engine if they ever offer one in .21 size, though the smell of nitro is one of the things I associate with this car. I'd never go brushless though.

Love it!

@@bfaulguy I run most of my models using the cheap Flysky stuff, it's actually pretty good, even raced 1/5 scale with it, no problems.
Haha you drove it on snow, I want one of these,

Any chance you can do a video of the clutch side
Nice to see. I need to replace the engine on my vanning. How difficult was it to install the RGX (P)?

Thanks. That helps. I'll look into seeing if the RGX (P) is available.. I might need some additional advice. Hope that's OK.
I had one of these way back in the day....i kick myself for not keeping it...
great!
懐かしいですね。京商ランドジャンプですね。
I wish my OS Max .21 had a pull start ... my Land Jump is a b*tch to start .... ha ha!
