So much static electricity built up between the ground and airborne dust that blue flames leapt from barbed wire fences and well-wishers shaking hands could generate a spark so powerful it could knock them to the ground.
Lived much of my life in (dust stormy) Lubbock. In 1970 the F5 tornado, (before the EF scale) was super devastating. This twister had a mesocyclone that came right over my house! It was the blackest cloud I've ever seen! There were three funnels about 3 blocks down on MY street! Getting a little scary. Then a BEAUTIFUL ORANGE mammatus anvil passed by. Wow! What a twister day 😳

Hank has the best footage I’ve ever seen. Everything is cinematically beautiful. Many chasers record storms. Hank is able to capture the beauty and grace of absolute monsters. It’s haunting and I can’t get enough.
I have a terrible, lifelong phobia of tornadoes. Yet I can't deny the strange beauty and incredible power of these weather systems and phenomenon. I love the gentle music and calm tone of your voice as you describe what's happening, it helps me remain able to keep watching these videos.
I live in this area. The worst one we've had in my lifetime was in October of 2011. I will never, ever forget seeing a giant wall of dirt bearing down on our car like a mega tidal wave. It went from blue skies to darkness. We couldn't see anything in front of us.

Cannot wait for the second part Hank! The weather in Germany has been super interesting in the past months. I had the chance to see very interesting cloud formations for the first time, including mammatus clouds here in Berlin. It was mesmerizing! (I knew what these clouds were, thanks to you!) Of course the scale of the storms and hail in Europe is pretty concerning, since it's very unusual. Czech Republic unfortunately faced an F4 rated tornado recently. On one hand I'm excited to experience storms, and possibly a tornado, from a safe distance (fingers crossed). On the other hand, I'm nervous since I am not sure on what to expect in the future. For the time being I'm just appreciating the mother nature.
Europe has been getting crazier this year. Im dutch, but we got news from an EF2 rated tornado in belgium 2 weeks ago. Two EF0 tornadoes touched down in the central part of Holland last month as well, making local news. That is true beauty! I saw a dust storm once, in Abilene Tx. But this video showed the storm from a good vantage point, so that you could see the colors and shapes and changes. Pure artwork! I love watching Pecos Hank videos....glorious art in 4 dimensions!
Chasing a tornado in a dust storm, near zero visibility, high winds, living on gas station food... I really couldn't see much of the footage, Hanks balls kept blocking the camera.
I think this is a perfect example of demonstrating what is misunderstood about true storm chasing. It's not just the Reed Timmer, screaming at you, with that wedge tornado grinding into your face experience (although those are amazing to see, and I truly appreciate those moments). But at its' heart, it is a capture of the unusual, and beautiful, and the unlikely to be experienced, with scales and sense of chaos that our dreams can barely conceive on their own. It is an expression of art by mother nature through the lens of those who dare to follow it, and for those of us who feel the shared awe in it's gamut of beauty.

No, Lubbuck Texas has lots of them in the spring do to farmers plowing fields. I lived there one spring and have never been back. I do not miss dust storms of Texas. I miss two things in Texas: !. Tex-Mex food 2. Braum's ice cream.

When I hope for tornadoes, this goes for pretty much every other spotter or chaser, I'm hoping for the type that gracefully dances across empty prairie or farmland causing no damage, injuries, or fatalities. It is our worst fear for any tornado to enter any sort of populated area, let alone at night.
