That background music sounds like Klezmer...at least I think that's how it's spelled. Interesting choice :) Then again I may be completely off and it's something else entirely, but that's what it reminds me of. Never cared for laptops, no matter what brand. Someone gave me a little tablet with a removable keyboard for Christmas about 3 years ago and I think I can count the number of times I've even used it on both hands, lol.
The music was just something from the youtube library. Macbooks.. or any apple produce really put me off because of the proprietary hardware but that one isn't toob bad really. Standard laptop drive, standard cd drive, intel cpu. Ok, under spec and overpriced compared to pc based laptops of the time but that is apple for you!
@@GeorgeChristofi In that case, check out Klezmer sometime and you'll see what I mean by thinking that's what it sounds like, lol. ruclips.net/video/A1c1zibBbwM/видео.html
I wish I could get to those auctions, on 2nd thought, I spend too much at the op shops already lol. Got a 2.4 A/h powerbank for 50c this morning. My USB tester showed it took almost the full claimed charge. Score! Reminds me, I haven’t ordered a tape for the microcassette recorder I got for $2. I haven’t seen any at the op shops in ages. Nice job on the MacBook, I had a play with my nieces MacBook when she thought there were viruses on it. I installed antivirus software and an alternative browser. No viruses found either.
I had a look already at tomorrows auction catalogue but there isn't anything I fancy in there. The job lots are just old TV boxes and dvd players. My problem is now one of space, I'm running out of it! The MacBook was a lucky fix, find it working with just a cracked screen means that it got saved rather than blown up or run over...
Hi George, any tips on disconnecting that flat cable holding the keyboard to the rest of the laptop? Do I pull in the direction of the trackpad? And how on earth did you plug it back in when reinstalling?? Thanks!~
Many Thanks Jack. Glad you liked it. I'm in the process of rebuilding the PC after taking out office 2016 which seems to have damaged other bits so I'm just doing a clean build.... Never easy is it!
Mr. Christofi, I have one (a friend's) that is turning on, blinking (stays on sometimes for 1-2 seconds), makes sound and goes blank. Can't enter anything. NOTES: It has a new 500GB HDD, I opened, dusted and closed it. Battery is not charging. Any tips? Thanks!
Hi George, first of all thanks for sharing so helpful video. If you don´t mind, can you help me to understand what is the purpose of the short connector next to the couple of wifi ones? the thing is was replacing the screen on same A1881 model and that short black 4-thin-cable connector is different from the one on broken screen. Given is a backup laptop, i could leave it unusable but not sure if possible. Thanks alot!
It could possibly be a different webcam connection. I will have a look back at the notes I made and see exactly hat it was. There is not a lot else in the lid of these laptops so apart from the screen wires, mic and camera and wifi lines there isn't anything I can think of.
@@GeorgeChristofi I was exploring a bit more and appear to be the inverter cable, which is mandatory for the screen to work properly. Unless, there is a way to bypass that connection with another electronic trick which i don´t know.
@@alexandreisavirov8511 Glad you found its purpose. I was thinking the inverter supply would be with the other monitor cables but it actually makes sense to keep them separate.
Yes I used to help my wife with fixing some Apple II's and 2E's at a Christian school where the old computers were donated. That was my only experience with apples I have always had PC's Toshiba and Dells Mostly. Just put more Memory in my 7 yr old Toshiba so it has 8 gigs but other than that worked on desktops. Working on laptops can be frustrating in many ways.
Hey George hi I had all my MacBook screws out in order on paper but then my cat jumped up on my desk and knocked all the MacBook screws out of order now there mixed up so how do i tell where they all go again thnx
Ok... The really tiny ones with a shoulder at the top of the thread are the ones nearest the battery compartment. the other shouldered screws go around the outside with the biggest at the back. The ones without a shoulder go around the inside of the battery compartment and the memory cover. If yours is like mine then the ones on the motherboard holding the cables in place are all identical and should be the same too. the longer ones with the blue loctite stuff on the threads go in the brackets that hold the screen. I'm pretty sure that should cover all of them. Hope it helps.
@@GeorgeChristofi hi George I have a iPhone 4s that I am restoring everything but I have one problem similar like the guys comment above but I lost all my iPhone 4s screws and I ordered a replacement of them and I lost the Original screws but haw do I know where the replacement screws go originally thanks George

Woah throwback! Back when the macbooks were white. I used to have one of these guys, great computer
Definitely a throwback but an interesting item to fix. Thanks for watching.
I love the opening
George, I’m convinced you can pretty much fix anything my friend
I just wing it a lot of the time! As long as you look at things logically it gets straightforward. Many thanks for stopping by Tyler.
Great job George, I love the music and the thumbnail!
Looking forward to your next video Andres

That’s my problem too, I manage but it’s a chore, lol.
I found another lot on todays auction... and got it for next to nothing... more stuff to go through...
I found an A1181 with a screen that has the vinegar syndrome. This video was helpful, as I'm thinking of is it worth replacing the screen. :D
GREAT job George!
A one screwdriver job Bill. Even you could manage it..
Yey, Excellent Job George!
Thanks Suzi. A nice simple job for a change!

What kind of screws go around the monitor under the snap on cover? Thanks
I can't honestly remember. I just used the ones that were fitted originally.
@@GeorgeChristofi I saw on a guide they are 4.2mm but usually there's 2 measurements for screws I think. So like 8x1 etc
Other option is to exchange the entire cable set which i could successfully isolate from broken screen. Thanks you!
That certainly is another solution.

one of the first computers we had access to at school was an apple 2e with its tiny screen perched on top of the huge base unit in silver!
Where can I get the LCD.display for this?
I bought one from eBay. I don't know.

You never know with those apple freaks... Or Fruitbats as they are known in non fanboy circles!
That already looks like Apple designed it. So repairing something not broken. Quite bizarre...
Simple screen replacement. The honest answer is that the thing is so outdated now its not really any good for anything.
