    after watching many vids on this subject ,with people using hot air gun , putty knives, removing tape , conduit and doing numerous unnecessary operations , yours stood out as the only one that didnt waste time and work so Thanks heaps for your simple approach

    The screen on my laptop has been messed up for weeks, changing colors to green to red. It was starting to get real annoying. My sisters has the same laptop as mine, but her battery is dead, so she gave me hers to try out this replacement. Now my laptop is back to normal. Thank you!

    I watched other RUclipss but this was the best one. My screen surround came off way harder than all the RUclips ones. Go very, very slow. I finally got the bottom right corner to pry off (was afraid of leaving marks up where I would see it.) I also used old Hotel Door cards to slip behind sections as I peeled it off as it kept re-sticking. I purchased my screen from Amazon and it was perfect and 100 % Apple quality and expertly packaged.

    Thank you for sharing very useful. Anyone attempting to do this please simply follow these directions. Also be cautious when pulling the front cover plate off. Be patient the sticky tape holding it together is strong. Other then that. If you follow these steps you'll have a fixed Laptop.

    Hey! Can you tell me how should i buy the new screen and where?

  • @VIVOus
    @VIVOus  10 лет назад +3

    We sell our laptop screens on eBay, Amazon, and our online website.
    I'd recommend you remove your laptop screen and on the back with be the LCD part number. That's the number you want to search when trying to replace your screen.

    i know this video is old, but i'm in the middle of repairing an old macbook for my brother.
    For the part where you have to put the frame back onto the display, do you need to add adhesive to it or will it go back by just pressing it back into place?
    I'm thinking of buying a cheap complete assembly that has a good LED display, but scratched up plastic frame, and just swap panels with my current laptop. I'm just concerned that the front plastic frame won't stick back to the assembly if I do that.

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  5 лет назад

      The front frame/bezel should just stick back into place. When repairing the MacBook in the video, the adjesive remained very sticky and had no trouble holding the part firmly in place.

    Hi, I have a good screen I can take out from another a1342. The screen seemed to be damaged by this secondhand charger I got. The right hand side of the screen is very dark and fades back to normal on the left side. Also, in general I found the screen on the other macbook to be way brighter which I love. Do you recommend I swap the screens? I really need to know if it will fix the problem or if the dimming issue will persist because the failure is in the computer not the screen

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  4 года назад

      Swapping the screens should fix the issue in this case.

      @@VIVOus great, thanks. What about swapping the trackpad? It was quite sudden when it became very hard to click. Still not sure what caused it, though some suggested the battery swelled. But the battery still lasts up to 3 hrs which is good

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  4 года назад

      @@SerenaCavanaugh If the battery has started swelling, it should be removed and professionally disposed as soon as possible even if it does still hold a charge. A swollen lithium battery can eventually catch fire or even explode, and the lithium material can burn hot enough to cause severe damage to any surrounding objects. If the problem is just a bad track pad though, then it should be possible to swap those out.

      @@VIVOus how will I check for sure if the battery is ok? this happened over 2 years ago but the laptop is still fine

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  4 года назад

      @@SerenaCavanaugh If you remove the battery and find that it has a bulged shape where it should be flat, then this would indicate swelling. If the touch pad hasn't been clicking for 2 years though, then it's more likely the touch pad itself that's the problem.

    Given it's on the market, could this MacBook support a 4K display or at least an FHD? I'm thinking to do it on mine.

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  5 лет назад +1

      Sorry, it isn't possible on the white MacBook. The GPU can only support up to 2560x1600 on an external display, and there are no other internal screens that will fit.

    • @andresvaldevit3692
      @andresvaldevit3692 5 лет назад

      @@VIVOus VIVO Thank's for the quick reply. What about a built in 2560x1600 display? The native resolution on these is 1280x800 on a crappy TFT panel. Any higher resolution would make a hell of an upgrade!

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  5 лет назад

      @@andresvaldevit3692 You're welcome! I wish I could say it was possible to use a higher resolution display for the internal one, but the 1280x800 panel that comes installed is the only one that will fit and work. The motherboard isn't programmed to accept another type of display, and the one that is installed has a unique shape that fits by design, unlike the stock panels typically used by most other brands.

      It appears the early Retina model (A1425) from 2012 is currently going for $300 to $400 used. For one that's in good working order, that's actually a pretty good deal.

    Quick question does the screen need to be replaced with an oem screen or does it matter despite losing retina

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  4 года назад +1

      The screen doesn't have to come from Apple. Just make sure to match the laptop model and year to the replacement screen (such as A1342 and 2009, A1502 and 2015, etc.) and everything will be compatible with the same screen resolution.

    How do I replace the entire screen? With the hinge etc?

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  3 года назад

      After removing the bottom cover from the MacBook, remove the white bar at the back, disconnect the LCD cable, webcam cable and WiFi wires from the motherboard, and then with the screen in the open position, remove the screws from the hinges and lift the screen assembly out. It requires a couple different sizes of screwdrivers, but the process is very straight-forward on this model!

  • @Ramire123456
    @Ramire123456 4 года назад

    Why did you disconnect the battery?

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  4 года назад

      Sometimes the screen cable's pins cross when inserting into the new screen. MacBooks tend to have a small amount of power going through the screen even when shut off, and if the pins were to short out even slightly, it could blow out part of the motherboard (saying this from experience).

    • @VIVOus
      @VIVOus  7 лет назад +2

      This was actually just an illusion created by the lighting and low resolution of the (cheap) camera we had at the time. If you look back at the broken screen in the beginning, the same "line" is also visible across the top of that one. The new screen looked perfectly fine in person.
