here's a tip, use hair pins to keep them curled. for the last curl on one unit, i use a hairpin to hold the paper and then twist it, untwist it a little to get the hair pin out and use the pin to hold the curl.
Spent whole day and night to make this model with a great help of eyebrow tweezer. Now it feels like I finally achieved something in my entire miserable life. A good way to improve self-esteem.
indeed. I haven't accomplished anything much for now so I'm making myself feel better about myself by folding origami and showing off to people. But I do enjoy making it. :)
First two steps is the classical "get 30 degrees" fold, used in many hexagon/equilateral triangles based designs, and the kusudama itself is the regular dodecahedron, which consists of 12 equilateral pentagons. Incredible beauty, I must admit B-) Thanks, Tadashi, thanks, Krystyna!
Really beautiful! When assembling parts, i uncurl as little as possible, but instead persuade the curls into one another using a toothpick. Appears the joints get tighter this way. Just completed one using 5 x 5 regular origami paper, it looks nice upon completion though a bit small (7.5 cm from opposite ends)
Imma do this when I get my hands on some legit Origami paper. Up until now I've been able to pull off some surprisingly complex origami with easily obtainable construction paper, but one thing I've noticed that kills any chances of using that here: Construction paper does NOT hold a curl well at all.
Lol. 8 years later and I am sat here reading comments while waiting until my next batch of paper is dry and ready to cut and fold 😂 Never felt the need to decorate my own origami paper until today.
So I followed the video using the grey side as my color side, for the model section, but when you changed paper, it was different. I'm assuming the blue paper is double sided. I was using a lovely one sided marble and ended up with a primarily white flower. Next time you made one of these videos, I would advise mentioning the best paper to use : double sided, or no. My nice colored paper is all shitty looking now.
12 flowers. Holy crap this origami really tests your patience and requires a lot of time and dedication. Even after figuring out how it was done its still extremely irritating actually accomplishing it haha. Thanks for the excellent instructional video!
Origami does not have to be one piece of paper. I have many origami books and making them since I was five years old. U got the wrong information about that. . Other then that this video is cool. Something new for me to do and learn.
Thanks for the tutorial! It helped a lot. One tip at 8.16: join the 2 flowers at two points instead of one. So if one flower is surrounded by 5 flowers, in every point 3 flowers are joined. This stabilizes the kusudama. :) Happy folding!
hi tadashi, this is amazing and the tutorial has incredibly made it easy for everyone i guess...... could you please put up a tutorial for the Applause Kusudama by Mio Tsugawa. there is none available on internet. please.................. i am anticipating a video soon..... keep up the good work...
Lol thats only because he has an accent and btw..... the guy who found out how to make this is like a freakin' genius and plus..... people who can make this thing are like EPIC!
marcare la presencia hispanoparlante en todos los videos de tadashi mori jshsjhs algun consejo sobre el tipo de papel? honestamente entiendo casi nada de ingles y no se si lo dijo xd
the amount of time, tears and blood spent in the making this.

how many did you use befor u notice that u only had white flowers did you try fliping the fold to a diffrent side?
This one is Hard =)
The assembling part is really difficult.
Maybe you can use tweezers when you twist the paper. It does help.
This is amazing! What kind of paper is best for it?
12 flowers. Holy crap this origami really tests your patience and requires a lot of time and dedication. Even after figuring out how it was done its still extremely irritating actually accomplishing it haha.

that makes the model's symmetry different, and the entire process is changed. it goes from icosidodecahedral symmetry to simple dodecahedral symmetry.
amazing! Thankyou! i really admire your skill and art.
would you please make another video describing the connections? the module was a little too small to see with your hands in front.
I've been wanting a tutorial for this forever!! Yay. What size paper did you use? :)
It looks like the most normal used paper size. which is 15cm x 15 cm
What size paper do you use for it to look like the model?????? can we use bigger paper for it the model to be bigger?????
it's just regular origami paper, you can buy it at any craft store, like Michael's or something.
So pretty! I'm going to attempt this when I have time, but I highly doubt I'll have the determination to finish...

WELL, ITS REAALLLY PRETTY ^_^

Regular origami paper doesn't like to retain a fold. Try stock paper or index cards
