Instead of waiting till you have all the snow piled up at the end of the driveway, first start out plowing there. You will have less to push and not make a big mess. Then push your driveway out. If you push a little at a time to the side, you won't have to do all that clean up at the end. Less wear and tear on the little four wheeler too.

Install a 2" tow strap on your winch drum. I purchased a 2" x 20' strap with hooks on either end. Both hooks have a safety latch. The winch should hold 8 or 10 feet of strap no problem. Put one on the winch and save the other for a spare but I'll warn you, they last a real long time so you might have the other half lost before you need it. Start cutting the strap on a sharp angle about 8" from the cut end and leave a shoe lace sized piece about 2" long on the end. Melt the cut edges with a lighter or torch so it doesn't fray and make the shoe lace part tight and round. Install the shoelace and into the cable stay on the winch and tighten the Allen screw. Let the winch pull the strap in and voila! The first few times you lift the plow, it might seem like the strap or winch is slipping but it's actually just the strap winding up a little tighter on the drum of the winch. After that tightening has happened you'll never have to worry about it again.

WOuld you mind sharing where you found the switch and plug to tap into the wiring harness please ? I have the same machine and would love to wire the rocker switch in for the same reasons .
I picked up the switch from my local power sports dealer, you can find them easily on Amazon for around 10 bucks. Just search winch switch, it’s just a rocker switch. I looked at the wiring diagram for the hydraulic tilt and lift kit, pulled the cup holders out, found the factory plug that would plug into that kit and cut it out. Than hardwired the rocker switch into it. You can probably order the other end of that plug somewhere, i lost patience and just hardwired it. Good luck Shawn.

I have had a plow on my utv for 3 seasons. The best thing to do is get a boat trailer winch strap. $20 on eBay. I cut it in half and it has lasted 3 year. The problem with cable and plowing you will unspool it to far when you let the plow down then it bits the cable.
I was impressed by how much snow it could push and how easy it did it. But like you said it's definitely not very cost effective if all you want it for is to push snow. I'm torn between getting a small tractor w/ a loader & scrape blade versus a SxS like this. The pros to the tractor is that I can do more work like spreading gravel, hauling mulch, bush hogging, repair my driveway, etc but you can't joy ride on it or take on any trails like you can a SxS. Decisions, decisions.....If only I could afford both.
You need to hook up a blower? The problem I had with turning my blade in the past is that it puts so much pressure on the arm that it bent it and eventually broke the welds.
Different classes in my opinion. Bobcat makes good stuff, if I recall in the video I said buy a used bobcat (skid steer) better value for the money if moving snow is your primary goal. I know which one I’d rather trail ride in the woods and it’s not the one that tops out at 35 mph… for me in a light work application (toy) this has been good.
@@crazydave4455 All true and good points. They only made those Polaris Brutus/Bobcat 3650 from 2013 thru 2019. Then Polaris dropped out of that market (Workhorse UTV) while Bobcat consolidated their efforts going forwards on their more capable “ToolCat” models. But for farm duty the 3650 is perfect. As to a speedy “off roading” UTV well, thats why GOD gave us the, Honda TALON !! 🫡😁
Could u answer a question, is there a lot of leg room in that Polaris??? What is top speed? Would u buy another one? Appreciate any help . I have a Yamaha side by side. No leg room. Hard to get in and out.....
Leg room is ok, I’m 6’ and comfortable not much room to spare. Seat is adjustable and the steering wheel tilts, that helps. When I was shopping in 2018 I would say the can an defender has more leg room and is easier to get into. Speed is limited at 65 mph. I would get one again, we trail ride it, it does good for a work machine. Accessory selection is awesome. One complaint is the cab noise in this model, drones at certain speeds.
@@karljacobson1575 Around here the dealers tend to have the major brands under one roof. Makes it nice to compare the models side by side. Good luck, happy shopping.
does ur ranger have electric windows in it? that is one thing i wished i could of gotten on JD835R when i was having my mid-life crisis so to speak-lol. i did go with the all hydraulic plow on mine. spendy -yes. but i wanted to go big the first time around-hehe!
I got a plow with my 2011 one and it's connect up seems to be better based on what I am seeing here, but debateable I suppose not having it side by side to compare. I have an after market winch and I have the at the 2012 time line ...their plow and hook up bar I vaguely recall installing. I didn't start really using this plow until the last 2 years and on occasion...personally I think the plow sucks given you can't easily manipulate it right or left without getting out to adjust it and plowing up in piles is not that appealing to me when you have 100 foot runs or more to plow as it's more than this 800 ranger can push if the snow is of any depth. It's good for short runs and I like using it for grading the sandy soil here and that's about it...I have gravel driveway and pushing snow over gravel sucks too, it grabs onto the rocks and leaves a mess after it melts. Plows are okay on paved or concrete for short runs...if I had to do it all over again, I'd pass on the 1000 bucks that thing cost me when I got it, but I can say it's been used to my advantage doing some light grading too..so whenever it breaks, it won't break my heart...I won't get another I know that. Nice you have a heated cab...I got mine for around 12K though, I didn't spend what they are asking now for them...the UTV's are nice, but their price points are far beyond their worth in my opinion when you are going past 15K unless you use them year round and I doubt they will hold up to high demands like that...if I had to do that I'd have gone with a bobcat that can do a whole lot more/skidsteer that is. These things are lightweights, but handy none the less. Nice video!
Yep. If buying only for work, bobcat is money better spent. This is an all around toy, trail riding etc. Someone in the family has mobility issues and this allows them to get out.
Just ordered a 2021 NS ultimate. Still on the fence about a plow. Have a tractor with no cab for back up. The heated cab sure would be nice. Have a 2012 Polaris 800 i bought new. No doors on it. Never had a problem with belts, clutch etc. but I don’t drive like an idiot. Lol Looks like you have some jealous viewers that are worried about what you drive. Thanks for the video. Might just pull the trigger on the plow.
I’m sure you will enjoy it. I bought the plow with the next house in mind (long driveway) You are right on, about abusing equipment, if you take care of it, you will likely have no issues. (What ever brand) I don’t get the trolls in the comments, so they hate the brand and come to watch it just to complain? I enjoy watching the different brands, have to have competition. Thanks for stopping by Jack. 👍 enjoy the new Ranger.
I have the year before yours/2011 that I bought in 2012 and got the plow at the time...didn't mess with it that much, but for grading sandy soil around the house I am building and pushing snow a few times...don't honestly care for it, but I have 150 foot of gravel driveway and I just don't like snow piled up and the rocks it winds up collecting...if I had asphalt driveway/or could afford one anyway..I'd probably be more into it. I would rather run a snow blower for 2 hours than deal with the aftermath in the spring of grading the rocks which I do with a 8 foot wide pallet I drag behind the Polaris which really kicks ass (James Hardie pallet from 4x10' sheets I used on the porch ceiling and soffits)...I put 3/4 marine plywood on the top of mine and stand on it frequently to trim trees, branches etc along the trails here I keep cleared off on 50 acres. I like the UTV, but the plow on gravel in upstate NY, not really digging it honestly...maybe I'll give it another try this winter and see if I change my mind...haven't used it but a hand full of times on snow honestly...works decent on my dad's driveway which is asphalt, but only when I tilt it to right or left on the first notch of the plow...otherwise it just spills snow like crazy out both sides.
Thanks Earl. The new ranger Northstar finally came in the end of October. Been loving it for hunting. I added light bar front rack and brush guard. And a headache rack with winch. The winch sure was nice loading deer by myself. Still waiting on the plow. The plow and electric tilt is in but the plow frame is on national back order like everything else it seems. My friends use the skid shoes on the plow and don’t have much gravel problems. My tractor blade gets some off the driveway and in the grass. In the spring I put the box blade on the tractor and just pull any gravel back into drive then grade with it in the spring. I have about 500 yards of drive ways. No snow in sight yet for my area. (Iowa) loving the North Star cab and heat! No problems. have about 600 miles on it now. Best of luck and hope you don’t have to push to much snow. I just hope I see my plow this winter!
Nice set up, been using Atv's and Utv's for decades plowing snow. You would save a lot of time to be plowing with bladed angle almost 99% of the time. When coming right out of the shop, starting to windrow snow over to lawn, taking just over half a blade on each pass after first one, will save time and easier on machine. Again nice set up, and way better than shoveling lol
It gets tough when we get those prolonged sub zero cold snaps. But if you have never played in the snow, I would recommend coming up at least once, rent a snowmobile, get out ice fishing just for the story and experience 👍
@@crazydave4455 That actually sounds like a blast. I would love to ice fish. And ride some snow mobiles. I’ve rode my four-wheeler on a little snow but nothing compared to what y’all have up there. @@perrylund4889 ended up picking a Northstar because in the long run, it is cheaper than buying a less accessorized one and adding the accessories yourself. Main reason for getting it, is someone in the family is paralyzed on one side and this allows them to get out in the woods, trail ride etc. also why it’s a Ranger, the bench seat makes it easier to get in and out.

I bought the Glacier Pro HD plow frame p/n 2889308 and the poly blade p/n 2879317 already.....but unless you have the 2885105 nothing will hook up.
I've got over $2k in the pro hd mount and poly blade and the front brush guard is going to be another $700. I bought a 2022 Polaris Northstar Big Game and it should have had it ready to go for the $40K I spent on this Northstar.
@@einarreitz3571 yeah Polaris stuff is over priced. When I bought my accessories, I got them from someone who worked there, employee discount.
Cost about 100.00 at Polaris dealer. It will have wires the machine will have connection for.
how much are those things? plow? nice rig..
In 2018 a Ranger North Star Edition was 24k . The plow setup varies depending on which blade you get, how you lift etc. can’t recall what it all cost.
Merry Christmas crazyd, cool looking ranger there, I want one of those, I do have a Polaris 4 wheeler, they are fun to have 🤘🎅👍🎄❄
Thanks Matt, Merry Christmas to you too!

Very impressive, thank you for the helpful video
Thanks
Have you had any shifting issues with the NorthStar?
No, shifter actually locks into place a little easier after some miles. Going into season 5 this year.
@crazydave4455 thank you for the info. Looking at a 2024 Crew NorthStar.
I have had a plow on my utv for 3 seasons. The best thing to do is get a boat trailer winch strap. $20 on eBay. I cut it in half and it has lasted 3 year. The problem with cable and plowing you will unspool it to far when you let the plow down then it bits the cable.
Someone else mentioned using a cheap ratchet strap. I actually have cut offs of a 2”, (chopped down for hauling a car) never thought of using it. 👍
When you plow your driveway is it worm in the cab does it have heat in it?
Yes.
Enjoyed the video!
Thank you
I was impressed by how much snow it could push and how easy it did it.
Tough one, have to figure which one you would use more.
I need this set up for my’23 xp 1000 crew.
Been using the heck out of it the last week.
You should add one foot wings to make a scoop works way better for pushing piles after you windrow it
Good video, nice set up, but I'll stick with my john deere. Heated and air-conditioned cab. Snowblower makes easy work of removing feet of snow.
You need to hook up a blower? The problem I had with turning my blade in the past is that it puts so much pressure on the arm that it bent it and eventually broke the welds.
Are you in hi or low range
@@lewispluger5401 Low range, work throttle setting. Makes it less sensitive.
Sweet ride, looks like you got a lot more snow than me. Merry Christmas.
Thanks, Merry Christmas 🎄
Polaris Brutus/Bobcat 3650 UTV W/fwd PTO & Hydraulic Max-Attach lift, Hydrostatic Drive, Diesel powered, w/1500 payload & 2000 towing, blows all other UTV platforms when it comes to implements & workability.
@@crazydave4455
All true and good points.
Haven’t run talon, but I know I tried hard to kill our Honda big red as a kid. Hondas are tough!
One complaint is the cab noise in this model, drones at certain speeds.
crazydave4455 I hear that, I’m considering trading for one, had heard they were good machines. Appreciate the answer!! Thanks...
@@karljacobson1575 Around here the dealers tend to have the major brands under one roof. Makes it nice to compare the models side by side. Good luck, happy shopping.

Hear that! Thanks a lot...
My parents just ordered a 2021 ranger. Im 6'5 and fit comfortably.
does ur ranger have electric windows in it? that is one thing i wished i could of gotten on JD835R when i was having my mid-life crisis so to speak-lol. i did go with the all hydraulic plow on mine. spendy -yes. but i wanted to go big the first time around-hehe!
Crank windows, that’s what came with the Northstar in 2018. The JD sounds nice. If you want it and can swing it, do it !
Awesome video also
Thanks Scott. I like to see what they can do, any brand. So i try to put up what I would watch.
Is that a 66" or 72"?
72”
It does a good job on your driveway
Just ordered a 2021 NS ultimate. Still on the fence about a plow. Have a tractor with no cab for back up. The heated cab sure would be nice.
Have a 2012 Polaris 800 i bought new. No doors on it. Never had a problem with belts, clutch etc. but I don’t drive like an idiot. Lol
Looks like you have some jealous viewers that are worried about what you drive.
It it a 66" or 72" blade?
72”
Nice sxs awesome to have when snow stay nice warm .
Beats snow blowing in your face. 😁
Good job on the driveway
How fast will this go, mph?
Factory speed limiter is 65. This one is now Gilomen tuned, which turns the limiter off and I haven’t topped it out.
At 12:50 you put half that snow there. Great demonstration though
I usually work the driveway sideways toward the road with the blade angled working down. This was kind of a what can it do video.
You should buy the power angle I have one of my sportsman and I love it no need to get out a cab and you don’t break any pins shear pins 500 but more
It would be nice, but the hydraulic kits are big money 💵
Thanks for that!

Wow pretty fancy! You got more snow than we did. Merry Christmas Dave and family!🎄⛄
Kind of hit or miss around here. At the farm we got around 10 inches, few towns over less.
Thanks Shane, Merry Christmas to you guys and gals too!
I love watching snow plowing videos but I hate the cold and cold never live anywhere that got that kind of snow lol

Oh man... when the dog jumps into the road and then the black truck drives by a few seconds later.... I watched my dog get hit by a car once so that freaks me out now
I know, she was suppose to be left in the house. It is a pretty quiet street (no excuse) that was my neighbor, he saw us.
With tire chains it would be unstoppable
Yes it would, may a bit hard on the drive line though.
Why don’t you buy the hydraulic to turn the blade you’ll love it sit inside the warm kid and push a button to angle it from Polaris
Maybe in the future.
Personally I would have angle plowed the whole thing instead of shoving it all to the end, but that’s me. Also, please don’t let your dog get hit, made me nervous every time he ran I to the road
I do angle when there is less snow. Dog should have been left in the house.
Ok for light fluffy snow, but for 2 feet of lake effect snow in Buffalo buy an old Jeep cj7 with a 6 ft Meyers plow. Probably for less than half the cost of this toy.
Yep, I have it for other reasons. If you’re looking for equipment to move snow, a used bobcat would be more cost effective.
I have a 2015 Ranger 800 6x6 and live in the Lake Erie Snow belt in NW PA. Christmas of 17 we had 5' of snow and my 6x6 did an excellent job plowing snow.
Too big. . I like my atv with plow more than my ranger 1000 with plow. It is better for sidewalks and tighter spaces. Jeep would be too big unless your doing some commercial properties.
This is money well spent.
this set up don't last long for commercial use.
