      Jason, i have some new gear suggestions but a long explanation. So look at the r10 with the 100-400 and 1.4 tc. killer setup for a reduced price for what you will spend on MFT gear. I know I know, I was leaving canon .... need to cut a new video of the last few months but , compared this setup against the g9 and no comparison the r10 is the m43 killer.

    I have just subscribed after watching this . I have the G9 and the 100-400mm lens and was thinking about the Nikon D500 and it is great to have your thoughts on it compared to the G9. I love the way you explained what this camera is like and how good it is.

      Chris thanks for subscribing. I glad the video helped out. Both cameras are top class. Just depends what system you want. I have the D500 harder to use because of lack of In body image stabilization. Other than that, the d500 is king on focus speed for me.

    Stafford, I bought the G9 a few weeks ago and have to say I'm impressed. But I was interested in the digital teleconverter feature in the menu and wondering if you've ever done a video on how to set that up. Of course I've looked at the camera manual but haven't found it much help. Sometimes watching something done makes it easier to understand than reading it.

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE

      Bruce, hey congrats on the G9. The most underrated wildlife camera. I have not done a video on the digital converter. I might look into a deep dive on the camera FYI. The G9 is still a beast and super affordable. I been looking and testing other cameras and the g9 still comes up as one of the better cameras out there. The 6K photo mode is just fantastic, video upgraded with firmware is super crazy good. It is almost a gh5 with wildlife and photo abilities. After 4 to 5 years since its release you think other cameras would absolutely crush this camera, but nope... Maybe another video is in store for this camera.......hmmmmm

      @@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE If anybody can do it you can. Owning the Leica equivalent of the FZ1000 (currently the V-Lux 5) really helped me ease into the menu of the G9 since the two are cousins but the camera only has an optical reach of 400mm. The digital I-Zoom converter of the FZ/VeLux 5 doubled that to 800mm's. This made the camera much more useful for birding. The G9, with the 100-400mm, has an effective optical reach of 800mm's and tracks birds in flight much more reliably. However, if the G9 also offers a digitally enhanced converter like the V-Lux 5, well, that could be useful.

    Just upgraded from the 100-300mm which I think is a great lens, to the 100-400mm and I'm absolutely in love with it! The 100-300mm took some pretty good moon pictures, but when I saw the pictures I took with the 100-400mm I was thoroughly impressed with the better quality. I also have the Leica 12-60mm lens which is fabulous.

    Enjoyed your review of the G9 but I think I would have enjoyed it even more if you had included some of your work with that combination of camera and lens.
    Having seen some of your past work I think those photographs would have only bolstered your case for MFT. I think Lumix was smart to partnered with Leica. Really good point about the noise problem DSLR's have around skittish wildlife. You have a new subscriber looking forward to your future videos.

    Great reviews IMO. I am a Sony SLR user. Want lighter gear because aging. Sony A6600+Sigma 100-400? Or Pana G9+100-400. Thats the question for me. Witch focussing system is the best for birding and traveling around. I wish I knew the answer.

      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  4 года назад +2

      Rinze, thanks for stopping in and the kind comments. So the sigma 100-400 lens focus is a bit slow when I tested it out. I have the sigma 150-600 also on my a6500 and the focus is too slow to capture my dog running right at me. It works for normal subjects but if you want that super fast eye focus and all the bells. You might want to test out the 100-400 sigma first. I notice if people want super fast focus speed then stick with the true native lenses and camera system. The one thing I disliike about fast focus system is they are all unique and really fully work with the manufactures lenses only. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I know focus speed is my weakest link i tend not to want too much from systems as the costs add up and time spent with each camera in the settings area.

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  4 года назад +1

      Max iso to me is 3200 which for me is about max iso of any camera. Even iso 3200 on the d500. So just me. I do not see that much difference in iso vs other cameras. High iso tends to be just that at some point you figure out how much you can live with.

    Very balanced and informative review. I have a G85 and planning to upgrade. I use the Leica 100-400mm. Could you comment on the shutter release, I hear it is very sensitive? You did not mention the EVF - I hear it is terrific? I think a G9 is on my horizon for many of the reasons you describe. I was considering the Olympus E-M1 mark II but the sad demise of Olympus has scared me off. The A7III and Fuji XT4 are great cameras but the lenses are heavy and too expensive. It seems Canon/Sony etc are relying on sensor envy to force us to waste money on pointless capability for many amateur photographers like myself - your points were well made.

      @@leef3167 ahh person choice. I know for me some lenses really benefit from a larger sun shade and help with contrast and color. I really like big sunshades for some reason the contrast seems so much better in some instances. I cant really prove this but the more dark stuff around the lens means you are not getting side light. Call me paranoid but on point and shoots the more directional light I get the cleaner and punchier the image is.

    I started real estate (RE) photography in 2017 with a used GH4, and then bought the G9 two years ago after much research. Some of my counterparts in RE photography had just bought the Fuji XT3 and we compared photos. That XT3 has a bigger sensor and beautiful colors, but the G9 was able to stand tall against it. I'd say in terms of picture quality it was a draw. I'm very happy with the G9 and recently have bought the 100-400 Panny lens and started shooting wildlife, which is MUCH more difficult than RE photography. I'm really learning the camera better with this new hobby and having fun. Your conclusions in the video rang true to my experiences, though I'm still having trouble nailing focus on birds/animals, but that is me, not the camera. It takes practice and experimenting with the many auto-focus options, and I'm just not there yet. Anyway, good job. Subscribed.

      @@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE Update on the autofocus: After applying the latest firmware upgrades, I’m nailing focus almost every time. It is amazing. The other day I saw a half moon up in the afternoon sky, I set my Leica lens to 400mm and, handheld, casually pointed it at the moon and took a shot. That’s like an 800mm full frame lens. It came out razor sharp! I used to have to put it on a tripod to get good focus at max zoom for such a distant object. The IBIS + the OIS in the lens are fantastic.

    Hi! Would you say that this is still the best camera for Wildlife photography and videography I 2020 especially after its new firmware update that lets you do 10-bit video?
    I've been scratching my head for a long time and I can't really figure out which is the best camera system for wildlife...

  • @ddsdss256
    @ddsdss256 4 года назад +2

    Yep--awesome camera/system. I've had mine for well over a year with lenses covering the 35mm eq range of 16-800mm and I love it. All of that and more fits into a tiny pack that weighs about 5kg/11lb (less than the weight of an 800mm FF lens and a lot more compact). I can take it anywhere and get great shots in any conditions. If the vast majority of photographers (including pros) really thought about what they needed in a camera system, rather than simply following the Nikon/Canon FF/APS-C herd, they'd come to the logical conclusion that MFT is the way to go. I prefer the ergonomics of the G9 (size/feel/menus, etc.) to a smaller body (such as Olympus, although the FF Sony A7 family is also too small for me and I don't have overly large hands), especially with longer lenses. Bottom line: there are so many great choices between Panny and Oly, plus virtually any lens will fit most MFT bodies with an adapter. If you want to spend a lot more for no noticeable improvement in IQ, a slower/less flexible system, and more back/neck aches, well, it's your money...

    • @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
      @MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE  4 года назад +1

      Correct very hard to beat and with the move to full frame and little options to the long lens lover it might be a while.
      The Sigma 150-600 though is still probably one of the best lenses ever made in my opinion, since it supports so many camera formats, sharp and not that heavy in comparison. With a metabones adapter and m43 you get 1200mm at f6.3 incredible.
      Thou the aps-c sensor puts it at 960mm on canon which is a good second option for weight to lens zoom ratio.
