You have a drill press. Don't overcomplicate it. Drill the first hole, with a stop on center, then lock a drill guide on the plate. Push the first hole onto the drill guide, and drill the next hole. Do that all the way down, and you'll have perfectly centered even spacing. The guide can be something as simple as a bolt, which fits into the hole you're drilling.
This is the simplest version of a tied hammock I have seen. I would like to see a picture of someone laying in it, to determine if it is a style that would work for me. I am a small person.
Mark, thanks. This is an excellent tutorial on a very useful paracord project. I do have one question. Can you please tell me the targeted width between the successive rows? I cut all the cords to a length of 15' but realized that if I make a tighter pattern (shorter distance between the rows), I would probably run out of paracord before reaching the standard hammock length of 80". Conversely if I make the rows too far apart, the empty spaces in the pattern would be larger and a person would have a tough time keeping their feet from continuously getting trapped. Your suggestion would be appreciated, Thanks, Murray
As an Eagle Scout I'm confused about why you call a girth hitch a larks head on the ring you start from then call the exact same knot a cows hitch on the ring in the end? It's the same knot and news to me that it has three names?
Hi! Sometimes the finished knot will look the same- as it does will all three knots you mentioned. But the way you tie all three is different, hence they have different names. Happy tying! Mark
@@Paracordguild I don't want to start anything or come off as a jerk but I can tie a bowline about 3 different ways. End result is still a bowline. How you tie the knot doesn't change the name. The end result is a girth hitch in this case. Square knot is another example where depending on the situation can be tied a few different ways. Still a square knot......
@@wauhawk I concur......sort of. What he ties is not a modified sheet bend; it IS a sheet bend. If you roll your cordage onto a netting needle, you tie a netting knot. It is still a sheet bend (unless you tie the extra half hitch to stop it "rolling over"), but the procedure to get there is different. I'm pretty sure this is why they have different names. I only know it as cow hitch because this is the only way I have tied it (clove hitch gone wrong 😁)
I truly hate the clove hitch! Lol. I'm 44 and until at most 2 years ago was the first time I'd ever heard of cow hitch. You identify knots from the end product. If I walked up on those rings I would see girth hitches all day..........
@@wauhawk I'm 60 and a recently retired truck driver, so won't bore you with the numerous names a "truckie's hitch" is known by. I like the clove hitch. Quick and easy to tie and I have never had one come undone (once locked with a half hitch over the standing end). I can't remember whether it was my uncle or cousin that called it a cow hitch. We weren't allowed to swear when I was a kid so I assumed the "gone wrong clove hitch" was a "cow of a thing" 😁

would you not have been safer using butterfly bends rather than the double sheet bend? I realize that it's a slightly more complex knot, but the safety of you, your family, or friends are at stake.
Hi! Honestly, a sheet bend is a reliable knot, especially when paired with a double half hitch with the ends. There is always room for improvement though! I'll take a look at the Butterfly bend, sounds interesting (I have used the loop version before). Thank you for a productive comment! Mark

A V-block would make the drilling easier, safer, and more accurate.
Honestly I think you should just use a flat spreader bar... Then it will be real easy to drill straight
