This is probably your best comparison video to date. Your hard work has really paid off! I agree with you on the fact that the g1600xl distortion is more aggressive and modern. Dig the new room!
Thank you very much for the kind words. It means a lot. 🤘🤘
The two g130s sound identical and very thick, but the g1600 sounds very fizzy and very thin.
The g130 is my favorite!! The g1600 definitely gets you a different style. I like it for what it gets, but, if I had to save 1, it's the GX130.
great comparison video ! kinda jelly over those crate amps.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
great vid man
Thank you!! I appreciate it!! 🤘
Thanks for the comparison man, recently picked up a G130CXL head and wanted to know how it sounded in comparison. After hearing them side by side, I think I like it more than the GX130C!
Awesome. I appreciate it. The g130c xl is definitely a sleeper. Just an awesome amp. 🤘🤘
Playing cleans on these amps is considered sacrilege!! Just kidding, nice comparison! I own the GX130C \m/
😂😂 it was probably the last time it was on the clean channel. Haha!! Thank you so much.
@@BeersnGearsOfficial As it should be \m/
I wish I still had my G1600XL!!!
It is an awesome amp!!
Amongst my pile of Crate heads and amps, I have the VTX200SH which was probably the last of Crate models that used the Ampeg VH140C preamp they bought the patents for. Even the clean channel with a modeler run on the VTX give it amazing note separation when I start shredding arpeggios from hell.
In looking at the schematics, all of these just like the VTX use active EQ schemes, the VTX the most advanced, but they are all great amps and vastly underrated.
I'm working on my own original design ATM and at the core, overdriving transistors which produce a fuzz that's one of the few distortions perfectly interchangeable with tubes. I will build up from there and add some traditional solid state raunch and sleaze, but should end up with the best of everything when I'm done.
*Crate is gone, but they inspired me to go to school for engineering. I designed my first distortion pedal from the ground up around their distortion, and have zero noise with gain obscenely high for solos and instrumentals.*
I have used that pedal for 15 years on literally *everything,* including 2024 digital modelers.
You designed a pedal that sounds like a Crate? That would be pretty awesome!!
@@BeersnGearsOfficial not exactly. I designed a pedal specific to overdriving Crate's dirty channels to obscene amounts of gain, and don't get feedback or ground buzz without using a noise gate. To date, it's worked great on countless modelers, especially Zooms but many others.
I could definitely build the Crate dirty channel and EQ into a pedal format though, I have a ton of their schematics. What I'm working on now though I think will be better. I'm avoiding the use of clipping diodes and focusing on driving transistors at the top of their operating specifications which causes them to clip and distort naturally.
This produces a distortion that sounds like a tube fuzz, and I will layer multiple gain stages into it until it's shredding metal fuzz and raunch.
@@JonDeth that does sound better. I'm intrigued. If you'd want me to demo it on the channel, I'd be down. JonDeth Pedals has a good ring to it. 🤘🤘
@@BeersnGearsOfficial It's currently named the 666 Deth Fuzz lol. The equation for the first input stage high-pass filter gave me infinite 6's. I'm building a few of these basic versions of it today on perfboard so I stop experimenting with it, and start adding to it instead. The core of it is a great start, and I will start building around that to produce more gain stages.
Once I have it so it's definitely useable, I'll message you and mail you one. The beauty of this all is I can build fairly elaborate circuits for about a dollar, even including the cost of pots. The other one I named The Death Screamer because I designed it to replace my tube screamer, but it's a wholly unique design from the op-amp upward.
The name I've had in mind for several years is Dethtone Amplification.
Played the right stuff this time for amp comparing.. crates not too bad for the money..
I think the GX130-C sounded best. It's a decent tone but don't pay enough to buy a Rectifier on a Crate.
The GX130C is amazing. I do see crazy prices on them. But, I also see them going down.
A dual rectifier is still my dream amp. It'd be a crowning achievement... lol.
I have the gt1200h, and my reverb is broken to. Its like barely coming through, like the wet signal doesn't come through all the way.
Where did you get the amp bench for the crate heads? I need one of those in my studio !!
Amazon.com. 36in metal rack. I have a 4 shelf and a 5 shelf.
How do these G Series models sound/compare. to the 80's red stripe G212 combo?. I owned the same amp as a G212 in the 90s with a single 12".i don't recall the model number i think it was a 20w so maybe G20? Loved it for what it was.
So do you know anything about the black carpet red stripes G212? If so..please help!
These would be the more advanced production run to that series. So, better components, better build, but, I'd assume very similar sound. I haven't played anything from the G series. I have seen red g1500 heads for sale, I'd definitely be interested in trying one out to give a better answer.
This is thru direct mic right? your older videos were camera audio.
Yeah. I started with just the camera audio. Now it's micd up.
@@BeersnGearsOfficial Awesome! much better to ear the details.
I appreciate it. I'm trying my best to keep getting better at making videos.
@@BeersnGearsOfficial Amazing bro, keep it going!
BTW, can you please do a great favor?
I need the raw. with no cabs sample of the Crate Excalibur, just the raw distortion, i need it to compare it with my Crate GT1200H. If i have the raw distortion i can put my own impulse response and compare it.
OR maybe you can do a new video of the VS of Crate GX130C and the Excalibur and put a sample with the raw distortion at the end of the video.
@HellFiend836 unfortunately, I no longer own the Excalibur. It just wasn't what I was looking for, so, I had to let it go.
What is the difference of the 2 G130s its awfully confusing.
Are they both stereo like my VH140c, is the 1600 160 watts? And is there a higher wattage than the 160?
The 2 g130s are practically the same circuit. The GX130C being the newer version with better components. They are stereo like the VH140c. I ran the 2 g130s into 2 cabinets to get the effect. I haven't seen a higher wattage than these. I think there's a tube version that would be higher volume. Then there's the Blue Voodoos, which I'd love to try in the future.
Love my blue voodoo 120 i need stealth and the gt200dsp to complete my crate collection @@BeersnGearsOfficial
