Another great addition you could add is ghost shrimp. They’re like 30-60¢ each and if you drip acclimate properly the shrimp won’t die off as much. They start off clear but eventually get like black and reddish orange speckles all over them. They’ll reproduce in freshwater and are great algae controllers. Plus if peanut decides to much on a few they’re very inexpensive.
Just be careful with the pothos. There is a lot of controversy if they are poisonous or not. I know people who claim they lost their turtles because of pothos.
AWESOME! New turtle mom. He is just about 10 months old. Have had guppies as tankmates for about 8. My guppies reproduce quite often and I let nature take course. Tank looks fabulous.
Hey Dan! I could use your expertise! I have a two year old Spotted Turtle whom I got when he was a hatchling from a local breeder. Recently (last two months) he has been acting very sluggish and hasn’t been eating all that much since. Usually I notice in the winter months that my turtles will slow down (maybe instinctively) but usually come out of it after a month. He basks regularly under a UVB and heat lamp and moves about the tank normal. The tank is not heated but air temperature in the room stays a consistent 70 degree F. His eyes and nose look normal as well. I feed him Zoomed pellets and Shrimp. Any advice or recommendations would be great! Just worried because he is getting a little skinny :(
Hey Caleb! I am dealing with the same issue with one of my spotted hatchlings right now. I am working on a solution. I suggest slowly warming the water temperature and providing a light for proper day/night cycles, though it seems you've already got that.
Yeah my turtles are too hungry and ravenous and I feed them really good medifacts sometimes too well and they still go after fish just to bite them because at one time I had put shiners in there with him just to see what they would do knowing that they were too big for them to eat them and they still beat them in half yeah I fed them really well before I put them in there too they killed every single last one they're just giant spoiled babies and I have three painted turtles in one tub and I put balls and stuff in there so they're not bored I have balls with food in them so they're not bored and in my other tank I'm not even going to try I have a musk turtle in a very fat painted turtle that I'm going to be exercising this year because she's a little overweight
