- Underwater footage of West Coast crab snare action at it's finest. If you've always wanted to know what happens to your snare at the bottom of the ocean, now you do! In just one soak, I filmed 5 species in their natural habitat. Do I finally snare a legal dungeness crab and capture it underwater? Watch to find out!

Love the underwater footage! Please do more of these and keep up the great work.
Agreed!
will do, thx!
I watch every underwater crabbing video I can and this one is a favorite. By watching them I discovered pretty fast why I was coming up with empty bait cages and no crabs. I was initially told to soak my snares for about 15 minutes, Way too long. I now always check to see if there is added weight on the snare before I strike. Saves a lot of casting and reeling.
yeah i used to sit on them for too long too, now i check every 5 minutes! my jetty sushi vid, the crab literally runs up to the snare😁
The music is everything
That was a great video. Very relaxing with good music in the background. Thank you for that!
Super interesting Ish. It’s good to see how the crab snare works in action. And I like your calm underwater mood music. Can’t wait for your next video!
Great vid. I have a headache and the music and footage was really soothing
Surprised to see that much surge so far from shore! Thanks
this area is known for some crazy current. sometimes there are 15-20' faces that break OVER the pier and they shut the whole area down. imagine what it's like to be a crab in that mess lol
This is a very fun way to catch crabs! Love the California fishing piers! Nice set up for the gopro!
What am I doing watching crabs on a Sunday afternoon , lol… Thats cool , nice crab cam capture !
The crab cam was not only awesome but very educational as well. 🤙
Love the Picture in Picture. Awesome video man
Yes, under water footage is good...always interesting
Great vid. Thanks for the underwater views!
This footage is sick!!!! Shouts out for sharing 🙏
Fantastic footage! Love the soundtrack too! Nicely done!
ty! this vid has picked up recently, was it recommended by yt?🤔
Interesting to see how many perch are coming by. U never guess in million years when ur sitting on the beach all that is going on down there. Thanks for video!
for sure! i think i've filmed 10+ species for all the times i've sent a camera down.
Wow man. I'm astonished by this crab snaring. Fished and hunted all my life in alaska but have never heard of this. I really want to try this here!
Nice bro keep the good videos coming
Super cool..... Best part for me was the music..lol...but the caption explanations were just great ! Thanks for the CRAB CAM !!!!!!
That’s not the way we would catch the crabs back in the day. This way has much more of a happy ending
Cool shots! So interesting to see underwater action!
thx man! im gonna rebuild this rig, i didn't realize when the camera goes underwater the lens/water refraction causes this 2x zoom i wasn't expecting. next time i hope to have the whole snare/loops in frame.
Sweet vid Ish.
That was cool, thanks for sharing
That was relaxing music... almost a little too relaxing... ZZzzzz.... thanks for the video!
haha yeah i'm surprised how many people found this relaxing. crab ASMR haha
Great work buddy!!
One of these days GoPro will make a camera that connects to your cell phone so you can monitor the crabs and pull when the big ones are eating.
Gopros connect to your phone well at least hero 3 did
My GoPro hooks up to my phone.
@@ThisZombieBitesEverything what model#
@@timmorris3056 hero #4, I have never tested how far or if It can still works under water, this video has given me a few things to test with it tho. But I can be at least 20 metres away from it and still get a clear image on my phone. You need to use the app from GoPro to work it,it allows you to start recording when you want to as well and gives you power reading too. Hope this helps
I mainly use it to check holes gutters and inside walls before getting on a roof or making a big hole in a wall.
That was so cool and enjoyable to watch!
That was dope sir.
Cool underwater footage, Ish! I was wondering if kingfish were still around as well. I might try for them soon.
Thank you for the risks you took with that cam
Genius bro!
Great work... THANKS.
This is so cool man! This is the first video I see of a crab snare under water. Fisherman's Life has several underwater videos with swim baits, which are cool too. However, I have lost several crab snares, so I don't think I would be putting a camera on it.
yeah i was nervous casting that camera, but i did it for the subs! lol
On the Snare Cam..!! Sick.. Solid setup..
thx! glad i caught one on cam, hoping for a big make next time.
Very cool Ish. Worth the risk for sure.
thx moo!
So many crabs!!!!!
The creatures that inhabit this pier above the water are far more bizarre than the denizens below!
you sir are a true poet😊
Nice footage!
Awesome Bro! I got to do this, In southern Cali...........Hermosa.
Sweet footage
I needed to know what the snare lines are doing in the current? After watching this I see the mounting angles I use works as well as any. Thanks for the risk!!!! Great info!! Nice to see what the bottom looks like too!! Stay away from the snags!!!
Very cool!
It would be handy to watch the underwater cam live!🦀
Awesome man. Been trying to do this myself with a go pro. Sweet footage.
thx!
I have no idea what those things are , but I’m glad you pointed those things out
Heading to the bay area in a month gonna try fishing with a crab snare and a pole. From Colorado never tried it before. Been watching your videos learning a lot. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming. If you have any free time during the second, third or fourth week in June and want to take on a newbie and show me the ropes let me know. Tight lines!
Very cool Ish!
thx guys! now you know what's lurking below.
That was awesome! Please more videos like these. I have tried to get video of stripers bait fishing but my gofish camera could never pick up any footage.
This video is satisfying for some reason!
haha thx! funny a lot of people said it's very relaxing. crab ASMR lol
@@ishwithfish lol yeah bro, worth the risk
That was awesome ! I’m up in Washington and gunna give snaring a try . This was really cool video to see what’s going on down there !
right on bro, check local regs and have fun!
Nice calm day!
That crab was huge.
Cool footage! Always wonder what’s going on with bait on a hook or in this case a crab snare. Thanks!
Outstanding
I know that pier. What a damn cool perspective you gave us.
np! thx for watching, cool stuff down there for sure👍🏼
That was some sexy crab action
My heart was racing watch this and when that huge crab dodged the snare I was sad he wouldn't get to enjoy a butter bath lol.
Nice catch. Gave up on that. Was there for two weekends and caught only under sized ones. And didn’t see much action from the others as well. Maybe the season opener will be better.
Cool. Still have the rope and net basket. Caught many a dungeness off that pier! San Mateo county yes?!👋👍😁
yup pacifica pier! but it's closed indefinitely right now, it was damaged from recent storms.
@@ishwithfish Fish AWN! 👍🤣So nice to see a place so filled w pleasurable times of past. Thank you My Dude! Fish AWNNN! 👍👏🏻👋😁🙏🏻😘
Great clip, make me think to modify my snare loops so they stand upright. good background music beats discovery channel.
I'm jealous, I live in the Mojave desert.............great video !
That was way cool to see, thanks for doing this! :D I'm new to crabbing, why wasn't that one a keeper?
too small, gotta be 5 3/4" across back to keep in ca👍🏼
Good job Bud
superb
Very cool Ish. Gives a good idea if your share loops are working properly. Also how do you pick out the best spot on the pier to share from?
By tides, currents, swells, incoming, outgoing, coefficientcy ?
Cool!
Cool underwater footage! Was this on Saturday, May 4th? I was out there with my kids on the beach and remembered how blue and beautiful the water was that day.
i think this was the friday before. beautiful weekend for sure!
Awesome
Cool video.👍👍👍😀
thx!
Thumbs up and Go Giants!!!
Looks like a hurricane under water for those crabs.
Pacifica pier is such a fun place everyone is very nice and the crabs are plentiful
Yum!
Cool video! Do you know if all beaches have crabs or usually jetties and piers?
Im just starting to fish and your videos are really a great source of information. Thanks for spending time to make these videos. ✌🏽
thx! tbh all sandy shores near sf have crabs, just some areas have better concentrations than most. the advantage of the pier and jetty is that you can cover more deeper water without dealing with wave breaks.
Yo that was beautiful. I'd watch an hour of that
yeah man, interesting how this vid took off recently!
I got anxiety watching that 😂.
interesting thanks for the video. & you should put wet towel or something between your rods & the railing.
Where is this neon green water? Chernobyl? Don't fall in there, you'll start to fizzle and crackle, with little bit of after-buzz...
Why even throw it...aren't there crabs right under the pier? Also, I've found that suet cages make great crab snares without all the work. Thanks for sharing the video. Enjoy your content.
there are crabs pretty much everywhere, but i always cast away from pier to steer clear of the mussel-covered pier pilings. they're like magnets for snares and line. once a snare touches it, it's gone.
@@ishwithfish Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. 😉
cool
Hi bro! Thanks for sharing! How did you tight the cam on the fishing line? I would like to try that.
i made a custom snare with a gopro mount😁
yes! great footage! i just got my crab snare, well, in a couple daze. i also got a 10' heavy rod, okuma longitude, and 50# braid (i think), and a penn battle ii 6000 reel. when i get all that stuff i'll have to see if i'm comfortable with how heavy it all is ------------ but maybe that weight equipment is required for snares.... ty again!
that's perfect! when you cast a 6 oz snare you'll be so happy you went heavy🙌🏽
@@ishwithfish thanks! was out at baker beach fishing (San Francisco) today. mobbed with guys with crab snares...... recreational crab season opened here a couple days ago
I've been wanting to do this but have problems with the camera staying upright. Your setup looks great
You might have to add a piece of lead to the bottom of your camera. Looking forward to your videos on the new boat!
thx PK! there are some adjustments i need to make but i was lucky to get some fun footage this time.
Cleaver!
That’s amazing!by the way, what gloves are you using? Looking for some braid resistant, thanks
thx! i use those cheap neoprene casting gloves you can find on ebay for $5-6, work great.
Ish With Fish Thank you!!!
Hey man, awesome video. Do you know where I can buy anchovies for the bait? I saw a lot of people using them. Especially the Sea Wave brand, I don't know where to buy them.
Change your question. You only have the same question for most anglers
Nice footage. Gonna drop a camera in one of your crab pots?
i did it once before :) footage was pretty cool too! ruclips.net/video/EeEPF-O6Jg0/видео.html
This is the Pacifica pier and i have fished this pier to many times to count
12 crabs disliked this video
😂
Im going crabbing at my local dock thank you
What I find works best is making the holes smaller put chicken wire on inside they stick around a lot longer plus u will see in most videos don't leave it down so long crab are on the bait seconds after hitting bottom I never go longer than 5 min alot of times I find 3 min perfect
How far down the pier were you from shore? Do the perch and croakers go after the sand worm Powerbait as voraciously as they do from shore?
almost near the end. yup, everything will hit gulp worms there, but the best bait is raw shrimp. fyi the pier is closed indefinitely due to recent storm damage, no date for reopening😔
Awesome video!! What was the total time you soaked the snare?
was pretty quick! all this footage is compiled from one 10 minute soak. i have footage from other casts but this was the most active one.
I have never experience snare crabbing that when i saw one at my local walmart i bought several of them, only to find out later that its not allowed here in Socal.😀
lol ouch, but thx for following the regs👍🏼
Nice underwater crab snares ish to bad it was not a keeper. Take care
Looks like Pacifica pier
What kind of rod and reel setup did you have on this video?
thx for watching, all gear listed in description👍🏽
You should make your own snares using fluorocarbon and uni knots. Better at snagging them legs. I use it for catching blue crabs with a carp cage with uni knot snares tied to it attached to my rod and reel. Carp cages are perfect little bait holders.
What camera did you use?
I think my old gopro hero 2
Hey, you didnt break your rod this time 🤙🏼
haha i was more careful this time.
