I am a student of Shotokan and Goju and am fascinated by traditional Goju training. There are no Goju teachers where I am so I am grateful for your tutorials that enable me to continue my training in traditional Goju. Thank you!
Thank you sensei! I am starting to learn this kata as a white belt(goju). This is the most instructional and detailed video i can find in youtube! Thank you again!
Wow thanks so much for posting this my son will just be learning this kata so between you and his Sensei he should a pro at it in no time. Thanks again.
This is fantastic nice and slow to begin with to help me practice in the week. My 13 year old son has just started this style , I am going to join him but I have not done this since I was 14 haha now 45 very unfit and fatter haha, OMG . Also back from spinal injury , regardless you have helped our practise, hard to find nice instructional video . Again 'xie xie'
An observation on the application of the physics of motion to human motion and the transfer of force. The ground pushes back through the body and that force is ultimately tranferred to the point of contact with the fist supplemented by the rotation of the hips as the strike is delivered.
You are very observant. The heel comes down (pushing into the floor) at the instant the kick makes contact with the target. This allows both legs, and the hips, to be used as the energy is transferred into the target creating additional "shock."
When you perform Gekisai you bring out the baji quan inherent in this form and Sanseiru, in my opinion. Great work Hanshi! Your video are just excellent, thank you! Do you have all the katas on dvd?
@TenguMonk So far gekisai ichi & ni, saifa, Seiyunchin. We will eventually have all of the Goju kata on DVD. You can see them on our website online store at gojukaratecenter . com. Thanks for the positive feedback.
@pampermanneke Okay, I see, Shotokan uses many different principles that are not seen in Goju-ryu (long Zen kutsu for example) so it looks like you are comparing apples and oranges, and no you don't need to post your own kata but if someone has suggestions for what I am doing I like to know their experience and level; it gives the comment credibility.
@HIGHSTANDARDSPINTOS I am glad it is helpful. This is an abridged version of the instructional DVD, a number of details are not included here. Let me know if you are interested in getting the full DVD. Good luck to your son (and yourself) in your training.
The full instructional DVDs for Gekisai dai ichi and ni are available on DVD from our online store on our website gojukaratecenter . com, in addition to other DVDs. We get orders for these from all over the world as well as from the US. Thank you.
@SuperDANSAVAGE "Sweep chop"? As you may discover the myriad of possible permutations of bunkai may no be expressed in their entirety in the form of a single movement. Thank you for your comment.
why do you raise up on the tips of your toes and then smash your heel down with your back leg while performing a front kick? I have never seen anyone perform a kick like that.
@SuperDANSAVAGE Great a fellow Goju practitioner. Who is your Sensei maybe I know him or her? I assume you watched my Saifa kata video by your comment? The video on youtube is an excerpt only of the full DVD. I would be interested to learn what details you would like to see or you think are missing.
@GKCgoju yea i put it on the wrong video heheh but for one the our sweep chops go past or knee level when bringing your leg up second the elbow must be higher not only as a strike and or cut to the chest-chin area but as a means of evasion by making your body a smaller target but to each his own style..
@pampermanneke Well, the zenkutsu-dachi is the way I was taught and the way I have come to believe is most beneficial. Perhaps you can post a video of yourself doing the kata so that I can see what you mean.
GKCgoju It seems as if, in shizen, your left shoulder due to vertebral misalignment tends to stick out a bit more. A bit too much time spent sitting in front of a PC perhaps? Nothing a few nice shoulder slaps wouldn't take care of. ;-)
eh? Lol...sorry I wasn't asking about punching, or hip rotation. I've just been taught over and over to never ever raise up or go on your toes while kicking...should you do that in a fight I suppose the idea is you have very little contact with the ground...fights ive been in have lots of pushing, shoving ect...Just asking : )

excellent Kata and movement applied!!!
@GKCgoju well,i think your zenkutsu dachi is not deep enough and you should put a little more force to it (just to help)

Extremely well done! Thank you.
isent the first move supposed to be a zhen with a high block instead of a short stance with a high block?
lots of stamping on the fast movements, only two or four in Geksai dai ichi depending on the applications.
Wow! Thank you!
You're welcom.
Thanks sensei it helps a lot
Great! how many kata's do you have dvd's for?
@pampermanneke What don't you like?
@GKCgoju i dont need to post video,Michael Milon is what i mean, and i have no problem with how you learned it.

Why is your left shoulder in this video higher than your right shoulder?
Can you be more specific?

Why you hit the floor with your feet???
eh?

If that's the way you've been taught you should do it that way, but that's not the way it's taught through the Jundokan Okinawa lineage.
Thank you.
@inovo1407 Thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial :)
You're welcome.
The kiai is wrong placed
Oh, where should it be?
Good luck with your grading.
Good luck with it, I hope this helps.

i do goju and each of our pieces of saifa are put into deeper detail than this guy
omg so ..........not good,watch Milon
Long stance too short, there is no stance. Hand movements end before feet end. Completely out of sync. But punches are strong though.
What's you background?
