- Skoda’s third-generation Octavia hatchback, estate and Scout has been given a mid-life refresh.
The front-end styling is significantly revised with the large bland headlights replaced for sharply designed quad units, similar to the fourth-generation Mercedes E-Class (W212).
The front and rear bumpers are new while the rear taillight graphics are redesigned.
There are subtle changes inside, which give the Octavia more of an upmarket feel. The infotainment display is larger and has a revised design, with the screen growing to 9.2in.
The hatch gets a choice of three petrol engines; a new 1.0-litre 115PS, a 1.4 -litre 150PS and the 2.0-litre TSI in two variants of 230PS and 245PS for the VRS.
There are also three diesel engines to choose from including a 1.6 TDi 115PS and two variants of a 2.0 TDi (150PS and 184PS), with the more powerful version featuring in the vRS.
We’re testing the entry-level 1.0-litre petrol in S trim with a six-speed manual gearbox which is priced from £17,195.

Thank you for another great review. I'm really impressed with the practicality of this particular model, despite its shortcomings and the boot is something else.
thank you John. Very kind of you to say.
I never thought that an Octavia can be so under specked that it doesn't have power windows at back and body coloured rear view mirror and door handles.
very good review. I'm getting one in SEL trim 1.4 tsi dsg at the end of October. I'm driving a golf 1.6 tdi dsg atm but needed the Octavia for the extra boot space. Really enjoyed my test drive in the 1.4 as well.
How was the car? Any complains about the dsg?
Feels like the vast majority of car reviews you see sports top of the line cars with all the bells and vissles... nice to, for once, see the kind of entry level car most people would be likely to get.
very good review.
Great review. The SE version would be a better all-rounder regarding equipment but refreshing to see some standard cars being reviewed. The 1.0 litre engine sounds impressive.
Totally agree with this review. I have got the SE spec that adds the missing armrest and more. The 1.0lt engine is superb, quiet, refined, economical and surprisingly powerful. All who have been in my car have been bowled over when they learn the engine size. One chap even checked my registration against the government website as he thought I was kidding.
Good to know thank you. It seems an impressive engine indeed. And it's now in the Audi Q2 and Seat Ateca. Truly amazing technology :-)
Love the headlights .unique
But no armrest sucks badly
This reviewer is pretty good
Although I have been the proud owner of a brilliant Octavia 1.8T for 18 years (!), I will not be replacing it with a new Octavia. My dealer tells me the Octavia 3 is nothing like as well made. I dislike the cost saving lack of multilink rs. I will go for a Superb or Karoq.
What part of England (I suppose) are these videos usually shot?
Cristian Bonucci this one was shot mainly in East Sussex around Ashdown Forest - roughly halfway between London and the south coast.
That is the 8" screen!
Got to be the VRS
stanaustin77 we'll have a vRS review up in a couple of weeks.
Great Video Review. I think the Skoda Octavia Is a great Car but I'm bit disappointed that It does not feature a folding down armresrt, no cup holders In the back and no buttons on the steering wheel
Jamie Pickles Only cuz its the base model reviewed
Very tidy motor - 1 litre engine in a big salloon .... wow
Feudal Serfer it's very impressive and really surprises how well it copes.
I dunno, those cut-through headlights fail to give the car that little bit of 'character'.
Cristian Bonucci looks better in the flesh and in a higher spec. vRS coming soon so will be interesting to see how that looks.
One thing is for sure: cows couldn't care less about cars.
Cristian Bonucci they really didn't batter an eye lid. Many retakes needed after an untimely moo or two. How rude.
Ugliest headlights in last decade. But Fiat Multipla(before refresh) is still at No:1
