- This ride ended up with over 3200ft of climbing which is about 3 times more than usual for us, and included a 20% climb up Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, made famous by the 1973 Hovis bread advert.
After a quick refuel in Shaftesbury we take on Zig Zag Hill and by the end of the ride Julie had burnt 2600 calories and I had burnt 3600 in the 67 miles cycled.
This one is 80% road and maybe we should have fitted the road tyres to the Giant Toughroad and Liv Invite...
Beautiful country. Thank you for sharing your ride. You both have a lovely relationship, how wonderful you both enjoy this absolutely lovely way to be in the country by bicycle.
Glad you are enjoying our videos. The great thing about riding is when I get fed up with him I just go slower! Lol 😂
Thanks Geoffrey, I'm so happy to hear that the enjoyment we get from cycling come across in the videos...
Fantastic Route. Great video 👌🚲
Cheers Mark, it's amazing the fun can have when fueled by a Tesco sandwich👍
I would love to meet the person that gave this video a "thumb down"? Well, actually I don't want to meet :D
Amazing video you two, as always! I just love them :)
Cheers Pavel, glad you enjoyed it. About the thumbs down, I guess we all like different types of video so that's fine... Just glad to be out on the bikes👍Hope to catch up with you soon...
I never understand why anyone would watch a video of stuff they don’t like 🤷♂️
Great ride you two, well done. Keep the good work up I love these videos.
Thanks Simon it's great to hear you love the videos, we enjoy the riding and it's good to have the memories too...👍
Cheers Simon, glad you're enjoying the rides!
Mike’s a cuddly bear😁😉 Nice Miles and nice climbing. Julie, tens machine for the forearm👍😊
Haha, I wasn't at Christmas... Too much lockdown sourdough 👎my own fault, no discipline!!!
Thanks James, I shall have to look into getting a tens machine!
Thought you were gonna hum the hovis advert theme when cycling up the hill!!!! Nice one 👍
Haha, you need to be able to breathe to hum... The people at the top did give encouragement and a cheers so I had to make it 😁
You guys are an awesome twosome. You guys have so much fun. It’s great to watch.
Cheers Scott, we do have fun when out on the bikes, when at home we fight over the TV remote just like everyone else 😂
Another really enjoyable video, although my legs were aching just watching the ascent of Gold Hill!
You've got some stunning countryside round your way that's for sure.
Great stuff!
Thanks Mick, yes we are very lucky, although I do sometimes I dream of rides on long flat roads ...🚴♂️...
@@WheelersAtLarge Ah well flat means wind a lot of the time, and no views... On balance, much as I moan about them at the time, I'd take hills over totally flat countryside every time!
I mentioned it before, but I really like the dual aspect of these videos and the overall vibe of you two just enjoying riding your bikes - no constant mentioning of watts, heart rates, functional threshold wotsits and all that technical stuff - just the simple pleasure of riding your bikes.
Oh and Julie's ear worm of Here Comes the Sun - you're lucky, mine on the last couple of rides has been 'Star Trekkin' by The Firm - good job I don't sing along that's all I can say!
@@micks61 that sure is an unusual earworm! Now you've mentioned it I hope that one doesn't become mine! 😂
@@julie-wheelersatlarge Oh hell, I hope not... I apologise now in case it does!
Great content again you two. Wonderful effort on that hill. 🙂
Cheers Bob, Gold Hill didn't look nearly as steep on the Wahoo👍
Gold Hill was like a wall! Can I have another go?
C'mon Julie, you made hard work of that little (Gold Hill) didn't you🤔! Did I mention Myself & Mike kind of made it up there! Haha only teasing. And I did do it on My Ebike! Jacky, and you two are absolute machines.... No question! Even when I was fit, and younger I couldn't imagine taking on what I've just seen you guys do. If you've done that route, then, and only then you'll fully understand the effort needed for what I've just watched... Wow! That was breathtaking, many many thanks for posting both of you.
Daron
Haha Daron😂🤣! I'm going to have another go at it! 👌The next time though I'll be prepared! I really had no idea Gold Hill was going to be included in this ride! Thanks for watching and your comments! 👍 🚴♂️
That was very enjoyable. I always liked the North Dorset / South Somerset area. I'm just about to go on a 40 km ride in our hilly region this side of the Ottawa River, known as the South March Highlands. (The other side, in Quebec, has Gatineau Park, with some really great hills.) It's 33C today, which I think will earn me a beer when I get back.
Glad you enjoyed our ride! 33c is very hot! 🔥 You will def have earnt a beer!
Enjoy your ride and good luck with the heat...
Very well done to you both, I'm from Shaftesbury but live in Bournemouth so o know they route well, well done.
Cheers Matthew 👍 Hopefully we'll get back out that way again in the summer...
So many rides in Dorset, I have just started testing my Apeman action camera for my rides!! great video
Have fun with the camera! The Apeman looks to have amazing quality and features for the price, you should get some good footage.
great video again guys, looked at your strava earlier the hills look nasty. could have used cinnamon rolls on my ride today, went a bit hard for a bit long, (for me at least), legs are properly hurting now. mmmm cinnamon rolls....starving
It's a bloody conspiracy, Cinnamon rolls are great for energy, not so good for the waistline...🤣 why can't the nice foods be healthy too?
@@WheelersAtLarge tell me about it, i've been trying whole foods instead of energy gels etc, nothing really gives me energy like a good old welshcake, jam split, figroll, etc etc etc..(i know their not whole foods :) )
@@budycelyn Why would anyone use gels when Welsh cakes are a thing🤣
@@budycelyn oooh fig rolls! Nice! 👍 🚴♀️
Love this video. The two of you have great energy and are so very inspiring! We are looking forward to our return home to Breathtaking Dorset! Will give Gold Hill a go...Not sure about Zig-Zag Hill though. Might have to be a cheat and drive to WinGreen 😊
Thank you for the great comment 👍 Zig Zag is not as tough as it looks, like any hill is it's as tough as the speed you try to ride up it. As you see we were in low gears taking our time 😂
I love the climb up zigzag hill, especially since they re-surfaced it a couple of years ago. 🚵🏽♂️😎 When I saw you say we’re nearly back at Redhill Park, realised that we must nearly be neighbours as I live in Ensbury Park. Surprised I’ve never seen you when I’m out and about, I’ll keep an eye out for you from now on. 😉😎
Yeah, it's a small world... We're down in Winton so ride out through Ensbury Park quite often 👍 Cheers...
Beautiful ride !!!
Thank you Jorge...
Love the video!
Thank you Nick. It was a good day on the bikes and some roads we haven't ridden before.
Julie it might just be the camera angle but it looks like your saddle is a bit high and you are over extending your legs. Love you trip out guys.
Great channel! Just subscribed, excited to support a fellow small RUclipsr! I treat a lot of cyclers, and will certainly share your channel. Looking forward to continued engagement. Keep working!
Congratulations on scaling Gold Hill, with no Hovis to carry.
It had to be done. Nearly tore the hoods off!
I meant scaling not talking.
@@WheelersAtLarge No bent bike, I hope? Rear triangle still there?
@@davidchadderton5904 heard from Giant today, looks like I'll have the Toughroad back next week👍
@@WheelersAtLarge Great. What have they done to it? Tell when you know. Cheers.
Can you / do you share the routes on strava?
Hi Ian, thanks for the sub. Both Julie's and my Strava accounts are listed in the about page of this channel.
Great vid again, thank you both
Thanks, a good day on the bike for us...
#dggtup
Did you see how steep that was Darren? Lol TUP! can I have another go?
