    I'd be interested to see you talk specifically about wonders. Whether or not it would work best as a tier list I'm not sure, since (at least as compared to multiplayer Civ 5) wonders seem much more specialised.
    Perhaps a video that talks about key wonders and who rushes them/ spends time to get them. I'd also think it would be interesting to see a video purely on any wonders that are so niche that basically no Civ takes them.
    Regardless of if or how you choose to tackle the subject, keep up the good work, dude.

    you should try vietnam more, even though people know its strong it's still underrated. People overstate the consistency issues it has. Most of the time you can get a good thanh setup super early that gives insane tempo when combined with city patron godess since it applies to the thanh and the first specialty district built afterwords. The movement and cs is also really good early on for faster settlers/scouts/and defense. Their UU is super mediocre which is the only bad thing about the civ. You typically dont need as much culture as other civs since you get so much from thanhs so getting a few good early com hubs can give you insane early sci if you go free inq first leading to an insane start if you have a good spawn.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  17 дней назад +18

      I actually played a really good game on Vietnam two days ago. It was the very first game I played on the BBG patch 5.9 beta (the one with the Magnus nerfs), and it'll be the next game I feature on this channel.

  • @berglh
    @berglh 17 дней назад +4

    A nice segue into the Beta 5.9 changes, I was just thinking about how the governor changes would illegitimise many Magnus/Commhub opener strats in Herson videos. At least the BBG changes give you fresh strat content in the future. I wonder if the meta will just change to Reyna traders; saw Trynda-hair on ~60 GPT last night very early on without a single Commhub. Will be interesting to see how that settles down, particularly as you mention unlocking techs/civics increases district prod requirements - the desire to go Campus/TS early without the prod bonus of Magnus is still limited, but I'm interested to see how the "pro" players hone in on the optimal strategy.
    As a single BBG/BBS player (yeah, I know I'm suboptimal and lame), when I played a deity game with Brazil, it was still way too easy even without the work ethic "exploit". The carnival projects and Chicken Pizza are kind of OP, particularly for a n00b that sucks at timing great people and just end up with a ton without much effort.

    Actually, ppl who think that Brazil is a weak or boring civ, have just not played anything but WE abuse in vanilla.
    Tons of science, tons of culture, +2 amenities in every city for free and ability to earn great engineers even without an industrial zone are absolutely overwhelming.
    BTW, Brazil is able to build Colosseum quickly. You build Carnavals quicker than others, buy an arena for gold and start rushing Colosseum right away.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  17 дней назад +3

      Teddy-BM's near the top of my list for Civ Spotlights I'd like to make when I have the opportunity. CPL plays with civ drafts being assigned to each player, so I can't guarantee that I'll have the option to pick it in any given game, and I can't guarantee that I'll have a good enough game to do a spotlight on even if I do manage to pick it. Herson I have a question. I have been following your guides and have improved a lot. I can now mostly keep up with the top players in a lobby and have very good science/culture at around the 60 turn mark. My problem is, if I go for Factories Science someone will just rush coursers and rush me down when I have no units to defend. If Instead I go bottom tech tree, my neighbors will Rush industrialization and science and will outpace me quite hard. How do I better choose between top and bottom of tech tree?

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  17 дней назад +21

      It's really about trying to read the situation. If you spawn in the center of the map and have multiple neighbors you're not allied with, you can't play as greedily as you could in a more isolated, safe position. This is especially true as a newer player in CPL, as people are honestly more likely to target you if you're playing in a lobby with veterans.
      One important thing that you should consider doing is making one copy of the most advanced military unit you've unlocked at all times. This is because the strength of your city centers, which is visible in the fog of war, scales to equal a minimum of 10 less than the melee strength of your strongest unit. If players see you sitting on 26 strength cities on turn 60, you're far more likely to be attacked than if they see you sitting on 45 strength cities.
      Furthermore, players can tell if you've built 0 encampments by looking at how many great general points you're generating. Generally, you'll want at least 1-2 encampments by turn 60 just for the sake of hitting certain eurekas like Gunpowder (build an armory) and Ballistics (build two forts), and inspirations like Military Training (build an encampment) and Civil Engineering (build 7 different specialty districts). Having one of these on-hand in a decently large city will let you run encampment projects to get a great general quickly, which is critical for defending against a surprise attack. Players are more likely to attack you if they can tell that you haven't built any encampments anywhere.
      If you are certain you will be attacked, you ought to grab ballistics before industrialization (mix in some of the super-cheap top-tree techs like sailing & ship-building to bank up science overflow and keep a 1-tech-per-turn pace while doing this). If you think you might be attacked but aren't sure, I'd just build an encampment, make an armory for the gunpowder eureka, unlock gunpowder to build a musketman, and garrison it in your border city so that they know you're not a free kill (it'll raise the city strength to 55). Afterwards, rush industrialization. The musketman will also be useful later even if you aren't attacked - you can upgrade it into a line infantry for the Replaceable Parts eureka.

    Mr Herson, I have a question. When I build commercial hub in every city and get those +1 trade route capacity great people, I often ends up in having more trade route capacities than the cities I can send trade route internally to Magus. So should I NOT building commercial hub in every cities or send excess trade routes externally.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  17 дней назад +2

      If you end up in a position where your trade route capacity is exceeding the number of good trade routes you can actually send, I'd recommend to just stop building markets for a bit. For instance: If you have 4 trade route capacity and 5 cities (such that each expand can send one trade route internally to the Magnus city), it'd probably be a better use of your city's time to build a 2nd district or a settler or something instead of making a market. In this case, you'd still come back to finish the market later, once you actually need it.
      If you're sitting on, say, 9 trade route capacity and you've just settled your 10th city, it might be best to open it with something other than a commercial hub (assuming you have a good spot for such a district). A high adjacency campus, an aqueduct/industrial zone setup with a neighboring city, etc., might be better than going comm hub first in that city, since you already have the trade route capacity required to give it a good internal trade route and jump-start it.
      As you get a bit later in the game and international trade routes start becoming really juicy (alliances, wisselbanken policy card, reform the coinage, etc.) there will no longer be such s thing as having too much trade route capacity. All of your ally's major cities will be good trade route destinations.

    @Clemehl 17 дней назад +1

    Random question: are the negated Great People points overflow corrected in BBG when you acquire it without paying for it ?
    When you have bonus point from World's Fair or Nobel, the games compare what is bigger between the bonus and the overflow and pick it. For example: you have 241/240 GPP, therefore 1 GPP overflow. If you have Nobel (+50 GPP on Online Speed), you start at 50 GPP instead. Which is already an error: you should start at 51: 50 from Bonus and 1 from overflow.
    The 20% from Magnanimous counts as overflow. Taking the previous example, the new GP should start at 20/100 × 240 = 48 GPP, thus 49 with the 1 overflow. But with bonus point, it will start at 50 (50 > 49), while it should start at 99 (50 + 49).
    The worst part: the GPP points behave correctly when you buy GP with gold / faith. Here, the new one will start at 98 points (50 from Bonus, 48 from Magnanimus, 0 overflow). It only behave badly when you are granted the Great People for free.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  17 дней назад +1

      I wasn't aware of that interaction, that's pretty interesting. I have no idea if it works the same in BBG or if they've fixed it, but given that it requires picking recruiting Alfred Nobel or having a World's Fair congress active, both of which typically only happen very close to the end of the game in multiplayer lobbies, I can't imagine it'd be a high priority bugfix.

    Hey Herson, been liking the videos even though I dont play multiplayer. Been helping me learn the game i thought i had a good understanding of. although this particular video was a bit of a waste to be honest. while the spotlight of brazil within BBG is still valid, i feel like showing the civ through a lens that will still be relevant when BBG updates would have been better. the moment you mentioned that the magnus internals was being nerfed the video instantly felt outdated and thus pointless. For those who play League of legends its like releasing a champion guide the days before a game changing patch to early game items. it becomes pointless.
    still appreciate the work that you do bro, keep it up

    • @HersonCiv

      My previous civ spotlight was on Cree, who is an excellent civ for those starting out in multiplayer. The internal trade route meta is in a bit of flux right now in games played with the beta version of BBG due to the nerfs to the governor Magnus. Even still, aside from the optimal governor choices being a bit different on patch 5.9, Cree plays exactly the same way I outlined in that video and is still a very beginner-friendly civ.
