I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a recent gun. My wife bought me the model 60 in a 3 inch barrel 20 years ago ( 2002) and that was a 60-15. Excellent gun!
Thanks for the video. My uncle had a 60-9 and it was one of the nicest little snubbies I've ever held! Even has a nice trigger, and all stainless is an awesome thing for carry.
I own one with a 3" barrel. I just love the 3" barrel. It's a great compromise between the snubbie 2" revolver and the full-size 4" revolver yet it's still concealable.
One of the good things about S&W revolvers is that there are all kinds of aftermarket grips for them. You can almost always find something that will fit the hand well no matter the size of your hands.
I suppose it's good to have the option to fire .357 in a J-frame, but I've never thought doing so sounded like very much fun. If that were my revolver I think I'd be feeding her a steady diet of .38 Special +P's. The Model 60 is the best stainless revolver S&W ever made in my opinion, just the right size for concealed carry. Hope you're year is going good so far, Shep!
With our big new year snow storm, I have not even been out of the house. With 8 inches of snow, I`m content to stay in where it`s warm and catch up on my reading for the new year. Not even going to dig out the driveway. It will melt someday. Best thing about being retired is that you don`t have to go anywhere if you don`t want to. :-)
@@1957Shep Living down here in the Deep South, every time we get any measurable snow, I make it a point to get out every day it is on the ground, and walk around the house & the shed just to enjoy it. Now from June-mid-September, it's hard to get me out of the house....
Always wondered the exact difference between the J-frame and the Magnum J. I thought all new J-frames are on the Magnum J frame, but looking at your M60, I am not so sure.
Great little gun ! I've been contemplating getting one for the past 3 months. and think I'm going to drop the hammer on one ! Really don't want to pay the COVID prices but if you want something really bad you've got to bite the bullet ! The primary purpose of the gun would be a back up gun and an occasional carry gun. Living here in Florida the weather gets pretty hot so pocket carry may be the only option when you are wearing shorts and a T shirt.
What do you think about it's reliability in regard to the in frame saftey? I admit, I am not a fan of the in frame saftey models. I checked out a few, and they malfunctioned right off the shelf. It seems they may have worked out the kinks?
I also own a model 60 but with a 3" barrel. Is it true that, if I feed my model 60 (or any other j-frame revolver chambered in .357 magnum) with .357 magnum rounds constantly, the forcing cone would eventually crack and the crane (or swingarm) would start to loosen up? I gather that the .357 magnum cartridge is really meant for larger frame revolvers, like the model 686 or the model 19.
The modern model 60s are built on the Magnum J Frame which is a little bigger/heavier than the old J Frames. Better suited for high pressure rounds. Plus, they are made from tougher steel than the older guns were. And yes, it will not hold up as well as a bigger revolver. But few people are going to punish themselves with that many magnum rounds out of one of these little beasts. Most people practice with 38s and only use 357 occasionally. Much more comfortable to shoot.
Since I had plenty of time this past year, I decided I wasn`t going to freeze trying to do videos. Decided I would do enough of them this past summer and fall to last all winter. And ended up doing a lot more than that. I`ve got enough videos uploaded to last more than a year, with 2 going live each week. Looking out the window this morning, I`m glad I did. 8 inches of snow and 9 degrees. And since I`m retired, I can sit back and think "I sure feel sorry for those poor slobs who have to go out into that".
@@1957Shep I retired in 2011. I've been thinking that for a long time. lol I get up when I want to, I take a nap in the afternoon if I want to, I go to bed when I want to. I should have retired in 1972.... lol
The S&W GUARANTEES 600 Joules at the muzzle, and 2" 1/8 barrel, the six-line rifling, favors the exit speed of the bullet, over the stability of the same, in fact it must be used within 10 m, beyond that you will no longer take anything, but what you take, you throw down... I compared it with a S&W 357 DA 4" on wooden blocks at a distance of 5 m, the difference in penetration is minimal.
I have one of these but it seems to shoot way high and right. Did you have any issues like that with yours? I dunno. Maybe I'm not using the gutter sites correctly.
Happy new year, the frame does look thicker and the cylinder is longer than my model 60 no dash. Are those factory stocks? Have you tried pachmayr guardian grips , saw them in a magazine and then looked them up on RUclips? My model 38-2 and model 60 has factory stocks , but I switch stocks on my 638 if I take anyone to go shooting with me to a hogue grip to get a full grip
Have you tried any .38 Special +P in it? I don't have any J frame S&W's. I've always wanted a Model 36 and a Model 60, but something else always caught my eye -- and my money. lol Thanks for the video, Shep !
I also have a 60-14, .38spl +P is a comfortable alternative to running magnums on days my rheumatoid arthritis acts up. 73, been shooting since I was 6.
I've been eyeballing this thing and have some questions: Would it be practical for pocket carry & deep concealment?? I know shooting 357 thru it is not comfortable, but is it downright painful??
Depends on how big your pockets are. In the past I have carried J Frames in my pocket. But it`s really a much better idea to use a holster. The recoil is heavy, but not painful. Firing a few 357 rounds is not bad, but you would not want to do it all day. For just having fun at the range you would want to change to 38s after 2 or 3 cylinders of 357s.
Shep, kind of a dumb question, how do the .38 specials feel compared to .38sp oUt Of the Colt Trooper MKIII ? I have the Trooper but it is so big, was thinking of trading for one of these Smith 60-14's I saw at my LGS.
Kind of hard to answer that. Would have to get them both out at the same time. Even then it would just be my opinion and you might disagree. But as a general rule, a smaller lighter gun is going to kick a lot more than a big heavy one. Before getting rid of that Trooper keep in mind that they are becoming collectible. Prices on them have nearly doubled in just the last few years.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s a recent gun. My wife bought me the model 60 in a 3 inch barrel 20 years ago ( 2002) and that was a 60-15. Excellent gun!
Since the S&Ws that interest me the most are 60s/70s and earlier, I think of anything newer as recent.
Thanks for the video. My uncle had a 60-9 and it was one of the nicest little snubbies I've ever held! Even has a nice trigger, and all stainless is an awesome thing for carry.
They are good guns.

Looks good, Shep... Bobby is awesome!!!
Thanks 👍
Some kind of grip that has squish around the web of the thumb and enough width in the palm swell to spread the load, would do wonders for magnum use.
One of the good things about S&W revolvers is that there are all kinds of aftermarket grips for them. You can almost always find something that will fit the hand well no matter the size of your hands.

Happy New Year 🎊 thanks for your showing us the mod 60 in .357/38 great backup or carry option! Glad they modified the gun. Be safe😊
This is a little newer S&W than I would normally go for. But it was going for such a good price that I couldn`t pass it up.
Great video Shep , it's a wonder they didn't make it six rounds , bit heavier and help tame recoil
If they made it big enough to be a 6 shot 357, it would be the same size as a model 66.
Good morning. Nice gun.
Thanks.

Morning!
Always wondered the exact difference between the J-frame and the Magnum J. I thought all new J-frames are on the Magnum J frame, but looking at your M60, I am not so sure.
I don`t think they make anything on the regular J Frame anymore. Unless it`s the model 43C.

No, I have not tried any +P in it. I`ve rarely used +P in any gun. Too easy to get it mixed up and run it through a gun that is not rated for it.
