Congrats on the new antenna set up , it turned out great . Just be careful, you’ll get bit by the bug and you’ll have 6 radios in there , 3 antennas and a tower with beams on top haha ,, trust me , I know ! But it is a great hobby on the cheap . Great video 👍
I had an antenna just like that back in 1999 - 2000 I didn't know they're still making them, just like you I was transmitting & recieving from mile away it was nice
Nice looking vertical - I am planning to get one for a vintage Cobra CAM89 that I acquired recently, just to have access to CB channels for emergency comms, etc. Just a note on your SWR readings -- if you are measuring at the end of the coax at the radio, losses in the cable will absorb some of the reflected power and reduce the reading. Regardless, your readings are well within acceptable limits, and the fact that you are pleased with the performance is what counts. Thanks for posting this information. Charles in S IL
If you noticed on the radio you’re using, which is the one I have by the way, it locks people in frequency you really never have to play with it so beautiful radio
I have a Sirio GPE 27 5/8 but my SWR tuner on top of antenna it broke off. I used to live in lithgow Australia and we have a lot of big cockatoos they love to swing on the antenna now I need to get it fixed I moved away from that area and move to South Australia but we still have wild cockatoos anywhere you go you still see them. and I have videos on RUclips of the antenna
I have just passed my amateur radio technician and iam looking at using the same Antenna on the 10 meter band ssb on voice and cw iam going to get 20 feet of 2 inch aluminum tubes and bolt that to the to a mount iam going to weld and fit it in to the receiver hitch of my jeep cherokee. I can drive up mountains and then put up Antenna and hit the side bands and hopefully hit Europe of South America.
Hi mullet man....always wanted to get into cb radios but couldn't afford it in the past, i bought a couple handhelds and 2 mobile units to fit in the vehicles. I really like this intek HR-5500 as a base station, saw there is a version called 5500EX. seems hard to find these new....
Well Merry Christmas Johnny...I thought about hooking my radio up in the house. Out back there is a 20 foot pole with nothing on it. It's a heavy SOB tho. It needs to come down, because a tree limb is holding it up. But, yea when I was trucking that was the social time talking to the other drivers and looking out for Smokey...LOL...
Perhaps you are going to experience a SWR increase with rain, when the base of the antenna and the transparent plastic cover above the coil get wet. In such circumstances the SWR minimum shifts 600-800 KHz down to 26 MHz. The 1/2 wave version of the antenna, the GPS 27, does the same.
Make the 2nd tube from the base water tight with a Cork or rubber bung. This will prevent condensation leaking onto the coil. You can drill.a small weep hole just above the bung to let any water drain away. The antenna looks to be well made. Thanks for the video, l want one for the 12m ham band. Rob Manchester England
@JohnnyMullet Thank you. I may have to wait til the antenna arives and then measure and order the sizes I need .. It sure was a very good idea to use heat shrink. Heatvshrink is avlot better than tape anytime. Did you use one layer or 2 . Thanks for the help.
Great video , love your whole setup . Im currently running a A99 an it does ok BUT id definitely like to have better receive . Pretty sure im gonna go with this antenna .
How is this antenna holding up for you? I ordered one last week, should be here next week. Do you have tape and shrink tubing on that? Did you have to do anything about the bottom coil section, like adding some sealant maybe around the top edge.
Great video!.. I was wondering how these antennas performed against the A99's.. I'm in the process of purchasing a new antenna and torn between the two.. any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated... 73's man.. EC587 Nova Scotia..
There is only One SWR. No SWR's on a Mono Band antenna. If there were we could purchase an SWR's meter & not just an SWR Meter. It's Singular & Not Plural. {:>)

Yeah I just got bit by the bug recently myself lol! Have a radio in my garage, office and 2 of my vehicles ! Haha

You need to get your CB setup going again so we can chit chat on the air.
Just getting back into playing radio, i have the same antenna. I'll be watching more to learn more... Thanks
Congrats on the antenna. I have the same one I put up three years ago. Works great. !

I have this same antenna, it works great. Only mine doesn't have the anti static element on top. It receives better than the A99 I previously owned.
that is not a anti static element on top but that is a capacitor sir!best 73s

Awesome so far! Yes I used shrink tubing at all the slides. I did nothing with the coil.

Real antennas are made of metal . Fiberglass is for fishing poles .
Echo sounds great if set right
