    The reason those Ventures were lighter is because you compared a fully hollow Venture to a semi hollow Thunder. The Thunder has a solid axle but the venture does not.

    I think my brother has the same trucks, but the axel is also hollow, had the same sticker but with blue tone instead of green. He gave them to me and where-ever I but them on they just shine. Feel so light and explosive. As soon as I loosened the pinch while croocked grinding these tight trucks, they would just pop me out from the ledge that is too long or has no ends, the preferred way. It's a hard choice but Mini-Logo Raws make wheelbase like 2.5 mm smaller per truck and thus pop is easyer, but less steeper. + the curved hanger helps with lock-ins when the wheels are too small. If I had to go back I would go to Thunder Hollow Lights. I have not figured out your stance, but if that crook is switch then it must be feeling nice! And that pivoting nosegrind!

      The hollow axle ones sound great. I noticed they had a much nicer grind compared to the ventures. And I am goofy footed. The way that one felt was unbelievable to me, and sold me on the thunders at that moment 200%

    thunders are perfect. i had a little concern about the baseplate before i tried them, but they slide fine, even with bigger wheels i just wax the side of the ledge and it is fine, the only problem is the wheel bite, but with sub 52 wheels there are no problems. ,,and your switch crook is dope!

    I used to love Independent untill I broke 2 pairs of their trucks in less than 6 months. Now I skate a mixture of thunder, venture and ace. I like the stability and pop I get from ventures, I like the pinch and lock-in I get from thunder, and I love the beautiful turning Ace provides 💕. I got thunder 149 team edition trucks on an 8.6 chocolate, I have 5.6 Gilbert crockett venture highs on my 8.25 clutch distribution blank, and I have Ace Classic 44s on my 8.38 FA Deck. I enjoyed the video brother!! I wish they made venture lows for bigger boards! I haven't skated venture lows since 2004. It was on a 7.5 birdhouse deck haha

      @deadonarrival2882  Год назад

      Thanks. I wish there was a 5.6 low but when I started trying whatever wide/low I could find I realized how bad wheelbite becomes. If you want a low/wide truck ace has some af1 low in a variety of sizes. And mini logo comes in various sizes and they are low as well

    • @adu3830
      @adu3830 Год назад +1

      Mini logo was actually surprisingly good. I was hesitant to try them at first because I've never had a truck that cheap be worth a damn but they turn well and I learned bs smith grinds at 32 on them. The AF1 lows are super fun, I don't have a pair yet but my buddy that runs a skate shop out east here has been skating them since they came out! I tried his setup and they have a fantastic turn. I want to try the thunder lights you have in a 149. With the forged base plate I think they are 51mm high which is a perfect size for ledges lol.

    • @hardhittaa
      @hardhittaa 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I noticed a lot of people saying just do your slides right. Plus their pros seem to do slides no problem.
      I'm just looking for the best truck for flatground tricks and doing grinds/slides on smallish ledges, rails. Mostly in the skatepark but street skating too.
      But I'm too old to be throwing myself down stairs at this point, just wanna do my tech thing, big drops never were my thing anyways.
      I spent some time as a carpenter so I'm gonna build be a fucking awesome box here at the house, with metal coping and a rail, I got some cool ideas.

    One thing I wonder about as someone who wants to make low trucks work is, well, how do you make them work? You seem to ride small wheels (50mm?), low trucks and then combine that with a mellow deck. How in the name of all things holy do you get it to lift off the ground 😂? I remember trying the Venture 5.2 Lows, with 50mm wheels on a mellow deck with a short wheel base and absolutely hating it. Felt like I had no pop at all.
    Do you ride a tiny tail like a 6.25 or something like that to counteract all the lowness of it all? I think I saw in another video that your deck was really short (like 30.6" or something) and that the tail was rather short at maybe 6.375"? Part of my problem might have been that the deck I was riding had a 6.75" tail. The other part might just be that my timing is just used to a later pop and thus I'm levelling out and killing the rise of the board too quickly.
    Final question, promise, how tall are you that you find comfort on such a short setup? I'm 6'5" and I'm starting to realize I'm feeling just a little too cramped on these sub 32" decks with 14" wheel bases.

    • @deadonarrival2882
      @deadonarrival2882  Год назад +2

      First off. Thanks for the questions. My whole issue is my timing. When I learned a majority of my tricks it must have been 1994 or so. I was riding lots of flat decks, mostly 7.5-7.62 with very mellow kicks and smaller wheels. I became so used to it that I’d have a miserable time on anything else. I am 5’10” to answer that one. I am currently on an 8” deck. With a 14” wb.
      If I can hit my nose/tail, I am able to lift it off the ground. I just need to eliminate ghost pop or not hitting the tail, and my flip foot helps grip the board and gives it some pop. If you can dip the nose/tail, it will give it the Effect of popping.

    • @RikRiorik
      @RikRiorik Год назад

      @@deadonarrival2882 so yeah it seems the answer is just to get accustomed to a different timing and maybe also get a shorter tail/nose so that it takes longer to pop, helping with the timing and also getting a higher initial pop angle.
      Thanks for the answers! Appreciate the channel!

    Thanks for making this video, nice to know I'm not the only one who's still prefers low trucks. Have you fully switched to thunder 147s? After being on 7.5-7.75 + 5.0 lo from the 90s to 2019, I started trying out "adult size" boards 8-8.25 + venture 5.2 hi because I couldn't find any mellow boards or low trucks at the local shops at the time but disliked the height and switched right away to thunder 147 for a bit and then to 5.2 lo because of the wheelbite but that's because I'm a lot heavier YMMV. I know it's in my head but I still like 5.0 > 5.2, I got 2 sets of streetcorner 5.0 lo + a stack of 7.5-7.75 chapman boards on ice if I ever get back to fighting weight. I just started trying out a 8.5 13.75wb/ace af1 lo 55/50mm to see if there's a low/wide setup that skates like a small board, pretty good but the wheelbite is too real.

    • @deadonarrival2882
      @deadonarrival2882  Год назад +1

      wide and low are not a good combo. part of the reason i started downsizing decks. i for the time have fully switched to 147 thunder. usually its on 7.75 mini logo, but i had it on a powell flight deck 8" (actually 8.1 but thats for another episode...) how they bring in the wheelbase makes the 14" on the 8" powell feel perfect (would be same on 8" mini logo as well) its so wild how all those little tweaks make a dufference. i actually liked going back up in width a bunch with the thunders.

    my only experience with either are the lows of each in 7.65"(venture 5.0, thunder 145) from the '90s, the shape and height were almost identical, and i still have them. i prefer the ventures and actually have them on a setup right now. the thunders suffered from slipped axles, which was common among many trucks of the time, but was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth and make me hesitant to try them again. same reason i dislike trackers. i also prefer the heft of ventures, standard weight, cast plates. curious to try the highs too. i always liked grindking and am curious to try the newer disruptors, still have 3 pairs from '90s and '00s.
