@@pinkcupcake4717 They're so cool! Don't think I've seen any full-size ones, but then again, full-size to an American probably differs to those with in-counter units regardless, lol!
@pinkcupcake4717 I saw one at a family friend's house like 10 years ago, although it was a stacked unit and the gimmick was that it could dump the wet laundry into the dryer portion without removing it from the machine. Supposedly more convenient but at the time I enjoyed using my family's standalone dryer to get my teddy bears warm and fluffy so I was like "this thing is a dumb convenience gadget marketed at middle class folks who live above their means in fancy cookie cutter suburbs, and unlike a lot of stuff other families have that I'm jealous of, I'm glad my family doesn't have this."

I love discussing laundry in different countries, lol. In Australia, most of us have a dedicated laundry room that often leads to a patio/the backyard so we can hang stuff outside if we want. I've never seen a laundry closet or anything like that
Older houses here in NZ tend to have a laundry room. Newer builds tend to have a laundry closet (particularly townhouses and apartments) or laundry in the garage.
also super common to walk through the laundry to a toilet, or have the laundry in the bathroom in smaller houses and apartments! i've seen laundry closets here in nicer places in the inner suburbs.
I think this reflects British style! The house I live in is 221 years old and we can’t do anything to the front as it’s listed (protected). But, we can have double glazing or extensions out the back as it doesn’t detract from the old style house :)
To my understanding, laundry in the kitchen is very uncommon outside of Britain specifically, although laundry rooms are mostly an American thing- most of Europe does laundry in the bathroom.
I'm Portuguese, and I never went to a house where the washing machine WASN'T in the kitchen. That's usually where the faucet for the machine is, so most of us keep it there.
To be fair, a lot of those extensions are actually just conservatories, so they barely have any use except for a space to sit in. Every one of them basically looks the same and they're incredibly impractical because you're supposed to have it as a sort of sitting space, but in winter they're freezing cold and in summer they're obnoxiously hot because they're small spaces with glass for every outside surface. They look like a modern extension, but they're really not all that fancy or useful 😂
I live in Eastern Europe! Indeed, many people may have a washing machine in the kitchen, especially in old apartments where there is very little space. It's funny when someone is preparing dinner and you need to get clean clothes out of the washing machine. We also had to hang wet laundry on lines stretched in the middle of the rooms, because we didn’t have a balcony or other place. I lived like this for 26 years before I moved into my own house. (by the way, I only learned about dryers a few years ago...)
I forget that some people who do have washers DON'T have dryers! In my mind they are a package deal, does not compute that there can be one without the other right next to it. Not that the dryer is a requirement to use, I know plenty of people who genuinely prefer the smell of fresh air from line-drying, or want to save electricity, or their dryer came with the house (ie super old, possibly broken) and they just rather avoid it than find ways to make it work better or remove/replace it. I've just never seen one without the other beside/above, except the very rare occasion that I've seen a combo unit. Kinda wild to learn that someone has grown up thinking so incredibly differently to me, I love hearing about what others think of as normal, it's so cool how varied everyone's opinions on something as "simple" as laundry can be!
@@blaireshoe8738Honestly, as Kayla said in the video I'd rather have a dryer than a washer in a small space because clotheslines take up a lot of space. But yeah, for saving labour it's definitely preferable to have a washer, if you can't have both, so I see why having just a dryer would be even more uncommon than just a washer.

My parents' house was built in the early 50s (and then expanded) so the kitchen is in the older area and we have our washer/dryer in a closet there. It's my mom's least favorite part of the house lol I never thought much about it until now though! She wanted a top loader for that reason, however, so it wouldn't get too stuck by the door if it opens frontways.
It's amusing hearing conservatories being referred to as "modern"! They were really popular in the early-mid 2000's but they've since gone out of fashion. They get very hot in the summer, very cold in the winter and are prone to issues with the glass paneling and roofs especially. You do see them everywhere here in the UK though.
This old house renovation is amazing! The attention to detail is incredible, and I love how you've incorporated the new Home Chef Hustle pack items into the design. It's clear that you put a lot of thought and effort into this build.
In Italy, you never find a washer in the kitchen and rarely find a drier. The standard here is the washer placed in the bathroom or in a utility room. Driers have begun to appear in italian houses just a few years ago and are considered a sort of luxury since you have to have space to be able to accomodate one and the most usual household here lives in an apartment, not in an independent house. I personally never saw a washer/drier combo although I'm sure you can find them here, it's just something unusual just like the drier. Wet clothes get hung in the bathroom or on the balcony (when you have one), those are our usual "driers"
I recently took a wack at the zoella mansion and it was SO hard 😂 it’s on the gallery it’s called “the Brighton mansion” I honestly don’t even know if it’s done 😂 But anywho! Your builds are so fun I love it thank you so much
Haha yeah I have my washing machine in the kitchen (from the UK here) and hang up clothes on an airer. I wish I had a dryer but the flat we're renting doesn't have one. My mum has a washer and dryer but they are separate like in the Sims, we call a dryer a tumble dryer here lol. Our fancier houses have a utility room for the washing machine my mother in law had that at her old house and again at her new one lol. It was an old style house that was renovated too! 😊 On my old hometown main road there were so many Tudor houses like this I wanted to live in, I just love beams on the ceiling lol! Lol I play with laundry in some Sims families, not all, just to mix it up! 😊 Oo I do love this house! 😍 I may have to nab and put in Windenburg, may move one or both of the Bergsten sisters in to it lol, I think their parents have passed on now in my main save lol
This build is super pretty, love the outside areas. Would be amazing if you could renovate some more of windenburg, it might make me want to play there! X

i’m american and my dad’s house had laundry in the kitchen, but it was in a cupboard. dad and stepmom HATED it and reno’d to move it to the garage instead 😂

Could you please do a chaotic wheel spin where you spin for the color, price, room type, AND size for maximum chaos. Example: A Turquoise 2x9 bathroom where you can only spend 1983 simoleons
Very pretty 😊 though I do wish you'd leave more than one counter open for cooking more often. I don't think I am alone in having my sims cook together as one of my favorite things. For my G8 NSB couple it's one of their favorite couple activities ❤
In France it’s very usual to have the washer in the kitchen if the bathroom is small. Or if your place is very small like a studio you don’t have one and you have to go to a lundry place (lavomatic)
This is perfect, I was looking everywhere for a Tudor style house for my game and then I find this in my subscriptions, amazing! definitely going to use this c:
I have seen laundry in the kitchen in the US (Iowa, specifically), but it's usually only in houses that were built or last updated in the 1950's or so. It's especially common in houses built in the early 1900's or older, that were updated around the 50's, the plumbing hookups were already in the kitchen or were added to the kitchen, so the washer was added there. From around the 60's/70's onward, we started putting the laundry in the basement, and then in the late 2000's/early 2010's, we started including a separate room or closet for laundry, so that's really only a new build/fresh renovation thing around here.
You’ve been an amazing sims builder for years but I adore what you are doing most recently! Cannot express the love and support I have for this channel, amazing work love❤
It’s so pretty!! And I’d absolutely love if she’d renovate the windenburg houses, especially if they’d be get together only (tho obvs that’d make it more challenging) !!!
🖐 American with laundry in their kitchen here- was like that at my old house growing up, too. I didn't realize it was that uncommon. Granted, the houses I've lived in were built in the 50s, so I'm sure when washers & dryers started becoming a more common appliance, it just made sense to put them where you had space.
As a Brit, can confirm that old houses with a glass box on the back are a staple of British architecture! And it's pretty common for people to turn the downstairs into a more open plan at the same time as building the extension
This is one of my favorite build videos so far, the house ended up so gorgeous (but I've been in love with Zoe's house for a long time, so it makes sense hahaha)
tbh as soon as you mentioned a big modern addition i had the clearest picture in my head of zoe's kitchen it was kinda funny when you mentioned it right after!
That bit about not needing to fence in your garden - true for Sims 4, but in 3 with Supernatural you did have to fence off the garden or else *zombies* would eat your plants on the full moon. Took me a while to break that habit playing 4.
Pretty common in the UK yeah, or in an outbuilding if you have one with power (more common in modern new-build estates) It's a lot to do with the small footprint of our houses, so your washing machine ends up anywhere it has access to power, and plumbing. A schoolfriend of mine had theirs in the bathroom, the hoses connected to the sink taps, and the power cord had to run out into the hallway (we're not allowed standard outlets in our bathrooms, we can't be trusted not to burn everything down - which seems more than fair). Rather than take the hoses on and off the taps, they washed their hands over the bath. Brilliant family, mad as a box of fogs, but good kind people.
Yes in the UK it is very normal to have the washing machine in the kitchen. If you have more money, you might have a utility room where the washing machine is.
“Not that you have to worry about keeping your plants fenced in…” Um. I started fencing mine in and locking the gate because it seemed like EVERY TIME they were ready to harvest, some random Sim would show up, knock on the door, and then go harvest all my plants! 😣 Usually while everyone was at work. Roommates would do it. The repair person. The nanny. Ghosts. 😂 Idk. Maybe it was a glitch? Or been fixed by now. It’s been a while. I’ve been getting my Sims fix watch your videos lately. 🤷🏻😄 I love your builds and it’s fun seeing them come together. (This one is beautiful!)
1:54 Kayla: “…a lot of times, in these British homes, they’ll add a slightly more modern extension or addition onto the house. You might see a super old brick house with, like, a big glass box added on to the back.” Me: “Got it, ok, I’m with you-Zoë Sugg’s house.” 2:11 Kayla: “…I’m kinda thinking about what Zoella‘s house looks like.” Me: 😳😅->😏😎

Wet clothes get hung in the bathroom or on the balcony (when you have one), those are our usual "driers"
i absolutely adore this house it's probably my favorite you've ever done
I recently took a wack at the zoella mansion and it was SO hard 😂 it’s on the gallery it’s called “the Brighton mansion”
I honestly don’t even know if it’s done 😂
But anywho!
On my old hometown main road there were so many Tudor houses like this I wanted to live in, I just love beams on the ceiling lol!
Lol I play with laundry in some Sims families, not all, just to mix it up! 😊
Oo I do love this house! 😍 I may have to nab and put in Windenburg, may move one or both of the Bergsten sisters in to it lol, I think their parents have passed on now in my main save lol
for those who use mods, i use ravasheen’s counter-fit appliances and the washer/dryer to add the counter slotting functionality to my game 🤞🏽
This build is super pretty, love the outside areas. Would be amazing if you could renovate some more of windenburg, it might make me want to play there! X
I'm form the uk those modern extensions with glass roofs are really common here, they're called a conservatory
When some of us have watched the sims pro grow up streaming the Sims, it’s awesome to watch the pro struggle here and there. Bring on the laundry and keep doing all the wonderful things you do with your channel. See you challenged is nice once in awhile! “Laundry “ 😊
i’m american and my dad’s house had laundry in the kitchen, but it was in a cupboard. dad and stepmom HATED it and reno’d to move it to the garage instead 😂
Can we name the skeleton Mark seeing how this is Zoe's house 😂
Simsie the decoration box does come in red/white/green 🎄 ❤
I am so happy she made a british house. Btw i wish all British houses have swimming pools
omg i’ve been dying for someone to build zoella’s house in the sims ever since she posted the vlogs of her moving. bless lilsimsie
when you were explaining the concept, zoella’s house came to mind immediately. perfect!
Yes please do a Windenburg default houses renovation😍😍😍
Love this, it’s so cute! 😃
we grew up with you kayla!! it’s so crazy to see how far you’ve come
Thank you for all the content, i dont work due to being unwell and your streams and frequent youtube content keep me entertaiend and with company
11:24 lilsimsie, with her head in the palm of her hand and with a smile says she should make an effort to include laundry in her saves because: "and the laundry is fun, cause the dryer might catch on fire" help you're so funny XD
In the US, I've had kitchen washer/dryer, master bedroom closet washer dryer, outdoor washer/dryer, and laundry room washer/dryer. Lots of variety :)
i really enjoyed watching this get built on stream!
You are great at building Kayla. No Matter what style.
devonbumpkin would be so proud of you for that modern extension ✨
As someone who watches Zoe and Alfie’s vlogs and uses their house for Sims inspo, this was awesome 😂
If Kayla gets asked to make a pack she would make a blue suburban kit
And everything would have coordinating wood and color swatches.
@@NikkiandFred And proper neutral swatches for everything!
It’s so pretty!! And I’d absolutely love if she’d renovate the windenburg houses, especially if they’d be get together only (tho obvs that’d make it more challenging) !!!
I immediately thought of zoella’s house when you described the british homes, and then you referenced her! So satisfying lol
Me sitting here in my Victorian house renovated to add a conservatory on the back to extend the kitchen …..
beautiful beautiful build kayla!! this is one of my favourites
As a Brit, can confirm that old houses with a glass box on the back are a staple of British architecture! And it's pretty common for people to turn the downstairs into a more open plan at the same time as building the extension
The decoration box is red and green. It’s the default swatch
This is one of my favorite build videos so far, the house ended up so gorgeous (but I've been in love with Zoe's house for a long time, so it makes sense hahaha)
oh i love this style of build, stunning!
honestly the kids bedroom looks almost exactly like the room my sister and i slept in whenever we visited my grandma.
The way simsie feels about modern stuff is the way I feel about old looking stuff 😂😭
tbh as soon as you mentioned a big modern addition i had the clearest picture in my head of zoe's kitchen
it was kinda funny when you mentioned it right after!
the laundry in the kitchen is so real for me as a turkish person lol
Omg!!! Kayla at twitchcon!! I would love to go now! I'm super nervous with crowds to. So that's very relatable.
That bit about not needing to fence in your garden - true for Sims 4, but in 3 with Supernatural you did have to fence off the garden or else *zombies* would eat your plants on the full moon.
Took me a while to break that habit playing 4.
I loveee this build! 💜 as a British gal, i think you captured the essence of some of our houses very well! 😍 xxx
love ur videos simsie!
Love your videos and I love your builds you were the one who made me want the sims and new sub
I'm German and have never in my life seen laundry in the kitchen! This is so interesting to me. Is it a British thing maybe?
@@katbairwell This is really interesting, thanks so much for explaining it to me!!
@@whisperofspring No problem at all!
Yes in the UK it is very normal to have the washing machine in the kitchen. If you have more money, you might have a utility room where the washing machine is.
When the laundry I warm it makes my sims playful and they end up dying from laughter. In like every save! its so inconvenient but chaotic aha!
“Not that you have to worry about keeping your plants fenced in…”
Um. I started fencing mine in and locking the gate because it seemed like EVERY TIME they were ready to harvest, some random Sim would show up, knock on the door, and then go harvest all my plants! 😣 Usually while everyone was at work. Roommates would do it. The repair person. The nanny. Ghosts. 😂
Idk. Maybe it was a glitch? Or been fixed by now. It’s been a while. I’ve been getting my Sims fix watch your videos lately. 🤷🏻😄 I love your builds and it’s fun seeing them come together. (This one is beautiful!)
I’m so grateful that she uploads everyday cus I just love her videos 😭
1:54 Kayla: “…a lot of times, in these British homes, they’ll add a slightly more modern extension or addition onto the house. You might see a super old brick house with, like, a big glass box added on to the back.”
Me: “Got it, ok, I’m with you-Zoë Sugg’s house.”
2:11 Kayla: “…I’m kinda thinking about what Zoella‘s house looks like.”
Me: 😳😅->😏😎
Target audience: reached lmfao
The livestream of this house was the first one I caught! It was SO much fun! Definitely check out the streams if you haven't already!
This is also very common in denmark here we call it an outside livingroom 😂😅
You should build a spooky house and also do another let's play with Stanley with the paranormal stuff pack for the month of October!
This is so pretty I am almost crying 😭✌️
