- Ichigo’s original shikai zanpakuto was revealed to be a false shikai during the TYBW arc of bleach. In this video I continue on from my last video explaining ichigo’s substitute shinigami form, as we go over the next step in the evolution of his powers which was his constantly released shikai state that he uses for the majority of the series from the Soul Society arc onwards. So join me as we break down and analyse a lot of new information about this old form.

It made me sad that ichigo never used his zanpakuto the same way his inner hollow did
Only used it once at the execution stands when he saved Rukia. Yet he’d rather just yell Getsuga Tenshou like Naruto yells Rasengan or Shadow Clone Jutsu 😂
@@Coreyy12 Its funny because its a literal requirement to say the command while Naruto characters say their attacks for no reason.
Well he never had a proper training like a soul reaper should. I also think that the reason why Ichigo uses getsuga tensho more than his melee attacks is because it's way easier and safer since it's ranged. Pretty good logic I guess.
@@whshortss This is true. People forget most soul reapers train for hundreds of years before even attaining Bankai usually. The fact he hyper sped through training to achieve Bankai, it would make sense for him to have actually very low skill in wielding his shikai and his bankai. He pretty much brute forces all of his attacks and has no nuance or actual skill because he never had time to develop and prefect his techniques.
That being said i hope if Kubo continues with the new No Breathes From Hell Arc, we can actually see Ichigo wielding Zangetsu properly considering hes had 10 years to train with it versus just the handful of days before going to save Rukia and brute forcing Bankai.

Ichigo's potential is higher than Urahara's. As stated by himself. Ichigo's training to recover his shinigami powers took shorter than Urahara originally thought

@@Grayson-Winchester I still wish we had an arc where Rukia taught ichigo kido, or at least attempted to to establish he has poor kido control. No telling what he could do with incorporating Quincy abilities into kido, definitely gives soul king vibes. Imagine ripping apart a building in soul society and converting it into a giant hado 90. Just the most trivial example.
@@Skarnex1337 Ichigo isn't the type to use kido spells. His spiritual control is insanely strong but it isn't as refined as Shinigami who visited the academy. His kido would be the same as Renji's
@@Skarnex1337 Ichigo probably wouldn't know how to do Kurou-hitsugi if he learned how to use Kidou spells from Rukia; I think that Aizen was shown as the only one who could or ever did use it.
However...what if during his training with the Visoreds, Hacchi teaches him the ways of Kidou & Bakudou? Ichigo could learn Bakudou 75 - Gochuutekkan from him, and could be pretty busted with it (for a defensive technique that's likely more powerful than the restraining spell Rukia uses) if he channeled his Quincy and/or Hollow powers into it.

I was scared of what was ahead for Ichigo and the gang. His shikai made me hopeful that he'd be able to at least deal with the small fry. Byakuya was always a worry in the back of my mind. Wow, thinking back now to the good old days of Bleach.
Spoilers ichigo's bankai is actually incomplete shikai
An interesting take on that Shikai form, I would have called it Psuedo Shikai, but Fake Shikai works too. One thing I love is the foreshadowing of how Ichigo uses that ribbon technique from Uryu to find his Zanpakuto.
Pseudo translates into English as fake or false, so it generally doesn’t matter, pseudo sounds cool but

6:30 Tessai mentioned that the sword didn't have a hilt or a guard (a handle or the piece separating the blade drom the handle), but we know thanks to Kubo that a Zanpakutō is actually both a blade and a sheath, sheath that Ichigo didn't have until the TYBW. It's not so much an unstable sealed Zanpakutō as a constantly released Shikai, similar to the Arrancars's Resurrecións. His fake Bankai being similar to Ulquiorra's Resurreción: Segunda Etapa, where his power is boosted even further without altering his appearance that much.
his full hollow state also seams like a Segunda Etapa in Bankai rater that a vasto lorde form.
His false zanpakuto seems to be a spirit weapon formed from reishi due to his Quincy powers, but I wonder now how that fits in with the hell arc as he absorbed the sheathe of his true Zanpakuto into himself.
So if Ichigo's false Zanpakuto was the manifestation of his quincy powers and as we know, it was not his true Zanpakuto.
Does that mean all the hollows that Ichigo killed were completely destroyed and never returned to the soul society?
@@Sage2310 not during the substitute shinigami arc, since that’s him borrowing rukia’s power, not his own, not so sure about after the substitute shinigami arc tho

If you put Arrancars into the mix there is a strong possibility that the Arrancars he killed did not even end up in hell.

why would it be his quincy powers? why would a Hollow be able to wield it? That makes no sense.
I like Ichigo’s first shikai. It’s disappointing he rarely fights in his Shikai form. After obtaining Bankai, Ichigo subsequently goes into Bankai almost immediately. As strong as Ichigo is, it sort of seems weak to have to be in Bankai to compete with other characters. I’m not saying Ichigo is weak. I understand he faces off against very strong opponents. I just think it would speak volumes of Ichigo’s power to see him fight evenly with very strong opponents in Shikai before going into Bankai more. Or to see Ichigo beat a fairly strong opponents without Bankai. I really enjoy Ichigo’s fight with Quilge Opie. He battles in Shikai before going into Bankai.
I agree with you. That being said, understand why Tite didn’t do this: Ichigo’s enemies aren’t just powerful but have training (soul reapers), have greater instinct (espadas) or both than Ichigo. Even tho makes him seem weaker makes more sense he would use his most powerful state since he can overpower people wirh literal thousand of years more of experience than him.
Even tho there were fights were it was “my transformation is stronger than yours so I win”, plenty of fights had characters use their smarts or have a direct counter ability against the opponent (which even happened to Ichigo when he faced the Quincy that can change the lethal dosis of something).
His original Shikai is trash in terms of power level because it's sooooo weakened compared to the true one he gets later.
Hence he has to resort to other power ups. As far as I'm concerned, you have to treat every form with "half a level down" : Shikai is a half Shikai. Bankai is between Shikai and Bankai so it's not that abnormal to use often versus really strong enemy and Hollow Mask is "beyond bankai" and use in the end of fights.
But once Zangetsu is reforged... It goes the other way arround.
He pulverized Candice in Vollstandig with only true Shikai.
Agreed, in my opinion, his shikai form feels more iconic (especially his full bring shikai), yet he uses bankai for like 90% of the anime after he learns it

Important to note is that ichigo outfit during bankai look's like what shinigami wear cuz its part of his own bankai. The reason is ichigo hollow is his true zanpakuto in which this hollow is created from a hundred of shinigami by Aizen experiment.

1 thing I realized is that if the getsuga tensho is a move that is passed down to family members, wouldn't this mean Gotei 13 would've been alerted to Ichigo's connection to Isshin at some point?
Maybe it was something that only certain members could learn, so it was more of a family secret. For example maybe Kaien never learned it.
Maybe but isshin isn't know because he was a shiba and is now a kurosaki not only does ichigo have the strength to be in the soul society its his lineage he belongs there and with his strength could be easy captain or above maybe not head captain tho hasn't had enough experience yet
It's impossible not to like shikai zangetsu. It's the most common form we see and he mops up many enemies with it. I am still a little disappointed Ichigo never quite learned to use all the abilities white Ichigo showed him and frankly owned him with. Definitely good times with Shikai Ichigo. It got us ready for his epic bankai cry and transformation later.

Spoiler alert: Kenpachis Zanpaktou isnt a sealed one. Nozarashi properly have her 3 stages from the beginning: base zanpaktou, shikai(Drink, Hozarashi!) and yet unnamed bankai(the red beast form).

I like the fact that there is at least a reason to shout out attack names.
Ichigo being unprepared? Well yeah he was but they didn’t have a lot of time at all for more training in order to get Rukia back not to mention Aizen kept accelerating the dead line.
That being said it does clear a lot of things on how much Ichigo was struggling, yet makes it even more impressive that by the end of the SS arc he could already stand as a Captain Level soul reaper despite essentially using nerfed weapons.
Also I use to think maybe Ichigo was under prepared, but looking back Urahara was a huuuuuge bro, and knew so much about what was really going on. Hell he made the hogyoku
his "shikai" is more like a failed improper sealed asauchi... without an asauchi and using quincy powers as the base instead it is basically a quincy sword with shinigami powers improperly sealed in it. his bankai is basically a false name shikai release
One thing to cover would've been the nature of his Zanapakuto and how Kubo gave us hints about how similar Ichigo was to a Quincy. The nature of Quincies is to absorb energy and release it in a condensed form. I believe Zangestu fits this description perfectly. Also I wouldn't call it a fake Shikai. More like he was fighting with half his power. The essence of White is basically an Asuchi or at least similar to it. I'd say the Zanapakuto that Ichigo wields was a gift or corruption by Aizen
Funny you should mention because it’s stated that getsuga tensho when used in Shikai is very similar to the way a Quincy arrow is formed (gather spiritual power and releasing it) and when in Bankai it’s stated that his getsuga resembles a hollows cero showing that the hints were always there and always prevalent.
@@hollowichigo24x Uryu also mentioned something along those lines. Remember when they summoned all those hollows for that contest. He formed his arrow around the sword as it boosted his on power slightly of course since that was really early in his supernatural profession

Of all the shikai forms Ichigo's Zangetsu has, this bigass kitchen knife design is my favorite. It may be a pseudo-shikai but something about it just screams powerful. Another interesting thing is that in a way it is like a spirit weapon quincies have (albeit not a bow in Ichigo's case)
I assumed Ichigos sword didn't have a guard due to blaming himself for his mother's death.
He attacked out of rage, but he deserved to take damage because he couldn't defend her.
With hindsight it is obviously trying to show that it's a incomplete blade, he doesn't even have a sheath.
And the spot where his soul chain connects to his chest is a Quincy cross instead of just a loop through metal and nobody has ever brought that up
As a kid: the encroachment phase and the look on Ichigo’s face was terrifying for me. I know nowadays Anime’s kill main characters and take chances but back then I was really surprised they did this.
I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Ichigo got his full Shikai in the beginning.

@@Chucklefu-ckle you cant say that clearly. There are 3(4) shinigamis in the Gotei 13, who can definetly kill full power Ichigo: Yamamoto, Zaraki and Unohana. The fourth shinigami is Ichibei. Shunsui and Urahara maybe able to do it too. Cant say anything about Ukitake, because we dont know anything about his true power(bankai), only one thing, how his shikai works. Other captains like Sui-Feng is out of question.

@@vietcuongnguyenle8530 Yamamoto is instant kill for anyone except Ichibei. Even Ywach needed to cheat to kill him. Zaraki is a powerhouse, we dont know his full potential yet, so u cant say, he is weaker than Ichigo. Even Yamamoto considered him a threat, so he stopped his zandatsu training. We dont know Unohanas true power either, you cant judge her from that only battle, what we see with Zaraki in the Muken(and the flashback). She let Zaraki win on purpose.
The comments from Tessai about Zangetsu shape and lack of tsuba on the hilt don't make sense. At the time we only saw Zabimaru which retained properties similar to a regular sword and there are those like Senbonzakura and Haineko which retain the hilt and tsuba even though the blade is gone which give the impression they are supposed to remain; but we see Kazeshini which isn't a sword, Nozarashi is an axe which doesn't appear to have a guard from what I remember, and Suzumebachi is a gauntlet-like thing with a stinger. So we know that they don't need to look anything like a proper sword to be a shikai. I think it more that Kubo at the time of the line wanted to make them more sword like, make Ichigo own special and then changed his mind about it.
I remember when Zanpakutos were called Buso Renkin, and spiritual pressure was called alchemy. Hollows were called homunculus, rukia was called tokiko, urahara was captain bravo, And the cloth wasn't for wrapping wounds but releasing energy.

I dont think it is right to call it a false shikai, more like incomplete shikai. I believe it is the truest form of Zangetsu. Zangetsu, which is both Ossan and Shirosaki has always existed within Ichigo even before he became a shinigami. Due to its hollow nature, it could separate from Ichigo and take form just like how arrancar form their own zanpakuto. I suspect that when Rukia made Ichigo into a shinigami, her own zanpakuto was destroyed in the process and was used to create Zangetsu the same way arrancars obtain their zanpakuto. And due to Ichigo's massive shinigami potential being awaken, a large void of power brought forth within Ichigo and to compensate that, all of Rukia's powers were absorbed. Also I stand corrected that it has always been Zangetsu that Ichigo was using during the Substitute Shinigami arc due to the same cutted sword appearing when he reawakened his shinigami power with Urahara. And if thats the case, its sealed form having both hilt and sheath made it complete. However its shikai does in fact is suspicious of form, and thats because Ossan is suppressing his shinigami powers. The Zangetsu he has been using for the majority of the series has always been his true zanpakuto where both Ossan, symbolises life, and Shirosaki, symbolises death are ONE. When he reforge Zangetsu, both was separated resulting into a 2 blade Zangetsu. His bankai on this new Zangetsu is when both zangetsus became ONE once again forming a giant sword. Once the white part of that bankai is absorbed reveals his previous shikai.
Thus: if Ossan did not suppressed Ichigo's powers then Ichigo's shikai when he first awaken it would have taken the form of the new Zangetsu's bankai, his TRUE shikai.
Remember, his "false" shikai is the sealed state of the true Zangetzu

It may be broken power wise but it doesnt have any special effects like other shikais/bankais. Its basically just huge power reserve to attack stronger.
Actually we never seen eos bankai power so maybe ıt has a unique ability but as always kubo like not showing it

Not really on the wrong side, he's just on one part of the soul cycle. Hollows aren't really on the "right" side either are they? Nor are the quincies. It's just that the soul society couldn't care about anyone besides fulfilling their task within the cycle. Ichigo's just another tool they could have used.
Of course ukitake and the others like ichigo as an equal and a friend but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

@@ArtsyAllAround because Nnoitra is an actual enemy, posing an actual threat. When ichigo and gang invaded soul society the first time they killed nobody and he literally made friends with everyone he came across, even in battle. they were just transgressing the law basically, they weren't trying to destroy and kill everybody. kenpachi immediately likes him, so does yachiru. also there is a large timegap between those battles and all characters get vastly more powerful over time, not just ichigo. especially kenpachi gets stronger with every near death/exhausting battle.
Would be cool for ichigo to use the more technical aspects of his weapon. But he's not a technical guy so we'll be left wanting

i'm not convince that the constant release state is actually a thing... when it was brought up in the manga it was sorta in the context of it having happened before, with kepnachi's sealed sword seeming so powerful nobody could believe it wasn't released... but now we know that not to be true after kenpachi achieved his shikai, thus ichigo's supposedly constantly released sword might just be the base sealed sword and he never actually released it...
like... ichigo never even uses any release commands for anything other than saying bankai when going into bankai...
A question I’ve been wondering is: Why is it Ichigo only has 72 hour before he turns into a hollow but Orihime’s brother last way longer?
Ichigos chain was severed unnaturally, They left him only enough chain for 72 hours before his transformation, If you remember the fluff episode where the tv personality releases the chain of the soul on tv, its transformation to hollow was instant because he severed the chain right from the hole, Orihime's brother never had his chain severed, It decayed naturally so he had much more time, All souls naturally decay into hollows after the chain dissipates if a soul reaper does not perform their duties and judge them, The act of severing the chain speeds the process

Fair point, though it is pretty similar and his Quincy side taught it him. Maybe Isshins family reverse engineered it from the Quincy war a thousand years ago. Just a thought when I read your comment.

The amount of retconning done by the tybw arc is annoying, it completely undoes ichigo's narrative journey of finding, harnessing, and controlling his super ego and id, then reconciling the 2 with his ego.

I got a question as far as bleach goes Ichigo has a sheathe for his Zankpakuto until he lost the fight against the Captain of Squad 6. But even after he learned the name of his Zankpakuto and awakens his Shikai and Bankai in every new resurrection of Ichigos Zankpakuto even at the final Arc of the series Ichigo is the only person that does not have a Sheathe for his Zankpakuto in stead he just has a cloth that wraps Zangetsu in when not in use. Seriously why dont Ichigo have a sheathe anymore I would've love if you make an video on that please. Also since White Ichigo is his true Zankpakuto spirit then how come Ichigo cant consciously learn how to pull off a Cero off when ever he wants to? And as far as training goes to learn how to harness the power of his Zankpakuto should he trained with White Ichigo since he is the real manifestation of the Hollow & Shinigami powers wraped up in one. The way White Ichigo fights is unconventional as well as practical but its better that he can learn all the ways of fighting from White Ichigo.
Ichigos most iconic power his hollow is always a toss up because it doesn't fit with his shinigami or Quincy side so when he loses his power against aizen alot of us assumed he still had it an when he regained his powers in the full fullbring arc it was pretty apparent we were right but then ginjo seemingly stole his fullbring which was powered from his hollow only to fast forward to now an again when his banki is broken in the final battle it was explained his power was lost yet again but tsukishima restored him again with his power but not his hollow which is why hid blade crumbled so the question is.
Is zangetsu a hollow himself who's essence was forged into a sword one which has no form of his own so he copies that of the one hes connected too?
Also the zanpakto ishin uses also has a getsuga attack so are there two zangetsu wielders and while were on the topic what happened to him anyway after the fullbring arc hes completely absent

He has so much spiritual energy that even if he knew how to seal it that amount is impossible to contain so it constantly has to flow out of him much like kenpachi

One of the best fights in Bleach. Regardless of the fan service I loved the scenes of ichigo fighting Zangetsu in the training room for control over Bankai.

Well, yes and no, his Bankai is his transformation + tensa zangetsu’s blade AND the sheathe. The white shell is still an important part to his blade, its just that the two together are his power/ bankai(at least that’s how i understood it from the translation). Also Ichigo now has the ability to either choose to use his dual wield or his OG shikai’s forms when it comes to utilizing the shikai itself.

It'd kubos fault.the hybrid of all powers chichigo is a trash .Kubo couldn't bring out his whole potential. He made others op and forgot about wimpigo and rushed the manga and showed fans illusion of ichigo fights and couldn't even show his real shikai and bankai that's why majority of people say kubo is trash writer and bleach potential was ruined by tite kubo.

With Ichigos shikai and bankai you can actually see which squad Ichigo belongs to. In my opinion Ichigo belongs to kenpachis squad, this is based on his shikai. But his bankai makes me feel like he either belongs to soiphones squad or biyakugas squad. Just my opinion

is laughable how now every anime channel is trying to get into the Bleach hype and make content on it. Like my guy never had faith in Bleach but since is making a comeback, they want to get in it. This is the only channel that never lost faith in Bleach regardless of its ups and downs. Other channels literally gave up on Bleach and when the anime was announce, they decided to make a comeback, that what you call Fake fans.
They didn't give up just waiting something for so long become make you lost your interest and till the comeback bleach Isn't that have so much video material so ı cant blame them
I would argue Ichigo being half Quincy is a borderline plot hole. I mean its clear the creator of bleach decided making him half Quincy as a means of giving him direct relevance to the TYBW arc (as before that reveal it didn't really feel like he had much of a dog in that fight)
It really isn't, the entire series was pushing the fact he was a Quincy. Very subtle hints.
@@davidkiller61 Uh for staters why didn't he show any Quincy symptoms until that arc? How come the old man in his inner world is more changed than his hollow? I am willing to accept it as a retcon but to act like it was planned from the beginning to me seems reaching
@@DTheCritical Since the beginning of Bleach, there are already some hints:
- Ichigo's bed has that Quincy Cross pattern that was also visible on uryu's first costume in the first arc. Also if i remember correctly uryu also designed that pattern on Chad's sleeveless tshirt in the soul society arc. This cross pattern on bed was the first hint i think that hinted towards ichigo somehow related to quincy or being a quincy.
- Hollow Ichigo stated blatantly "You wanna know where Zangetsu is, I'll tell you, I AM Zangetsu". => hints about Ywhach being an impostor.
- During the fight with Kenpachi. Quincy Zangetsu used Yhwach's shadow powers to essentially stop time for his fight against Shiro and then using some form of the (I know im gonna butcher the spelling on this...) Ransotengai to stop Ichigo's bleeding. Maybe he also/instead used Blut Vene.
- Aizen said to Ichigo that he was very interesting because his father was a soulreaper and his mother was ..... (Then Aizen's sentence was cut off.)

That Hollow Ichigo comment he clairified in context he didn't literally mean he was Zangetsu hell he even admitted to "having no name" and called the old man Zangetsu in private. 2. That argument of Yhwach's powers helping him was refuted by the fact they revealed his Hollow infact was the one who helped him heal etc during his Kenpachi fight also time flows inconsistently in the inner world. 3. The merged SP being said he would only lose his Shinigami powers (honestly just changing it to ALL SP powers) if he used the final getsuga tensho. They really outta have dropped more hints around the Arrancar arc (especially from Espada or some who could say there was something off). 3. His Bankai training summoned the old man Zangetsu not the hollow 4. If Old Man Zangetsu REALLY didn't want ichigo to become a Shinigami he should have given him access to Quincy powers earlier (and not you know given him fake Shinigami powers after he lost his powers twice...)
@@DTheCritical 1. When did he clarify that and called old man "Zangetsu" in private ? I must've skipped or forgot that part. Also, the "having no name" is before the "I'm Zangetsu" part. About calling old man "Zangetsu", it can be argued that he was being sarcastic or just got too used to it, like how you always call someone by their nickname instead of their real one.
2. "Time flows inconsistently in the inner world", bruh, re-read the Visored and Dangai training. Also, Ywhach literally took Ichigo into his shadow that time. Also, I dont think at that time even Hollowfied Ichigo can instant regenate yet. And in that fight, Ichigo only have a bit of White's SP, not even the half masked form.
3. Ywhach manifested himself outside Ichigo once, Yoruichi also talked about this before the Bankai training started. He also supressed Hollow Ichigo at that time, so what is the plot hole in his appearance ?
4. The merged SP said he will lose his shinigami power because at that time, he can only used Shinigami and Hollow power. Remember that Old man isn't his Quincy power's manifestation.
5. Old man's ultimate goal was prevent Ichigo from fighting real Ywhach. Give him Quincy power only make him meet Ywhach sooner and knowing Ichigo, he will fight Ywhach imediately due to... You know.
Bleach is so full of bullshit and inconsistents.
