A lot of what you both are saying aligns with my grandma’s lifestyle (she is 92 and takes zero medications). She grew up in a village in India and practiced all the brain healthy things you mentioned from the right diet and daily exercise to mindfulness, gratefulness, positive thoughts, etc. She also didn’t sit at a desk all day, didn’t have to read food labels, and didn’t have the modern technology to make her lazy. She milked the cow that was fed from the farm that my grandpa attended to, grew their own wheat, and were growing fruits and veggies at home. Sounds like we all just need to implement the lifestyle of our grandparents/great grandparents of the simpler days.
Absolutely!! Simpler days. Same as my Great Grandma who lived to her 101st year doing similar to what you mentioned for your Grandma, but in Canada. She put aloe in her water that she drank daily. Earth's medicine 😊🌷
Oh my God, when I was a teenager, I used to name my mind and had a daily conversation with her, because I felt lonely most often and had no friends. And my mind was my only and dearest friend, until my husband came. I thought it was crazy me talking to my mind. Turns out it's not. I'll welcome her back then. Her name is Shade, because she was just me, my shade. I love her.
Prozac worked for me but the withdrawal if I don't take it is insane. 70-90% of serotonin is made in the gut, doctors knew for two decades I had leaky gut, yet none of them tried to heal my gut, 5 tried to give me SSRIs, and two tried to give me sleeping pills (which I'm glad I declined). It seems crazy that antidepressants are the first answer when low serotonin is not always the trigger, and there are so many ways to support serotonin.
Fantastic conversation with genius Daniel Amen. Amen's books are health-producing, practical, and research-based. I wish that you both would develop a nurse practitioner course, mostly online for theory, and local for clinicals, that would fuse Hyman's functional medicine and Amen's brain health concepts. Nurse practitioners can practice independently in many states without physician supervision, they can do it without the load of medical school debt, and they could help heal so many ill people by guiding them to change their lifestyles and thoughts. A great podcast, except for Amen's one cheap shot at Catholicism without balancing it with a positive statement. Thank you and God bless.
Dr. Hyman, thank you again for bringing us these amazing doctors. This will be my next book to buy. I also, looked up the 30 day Happiness challenge. The last time I tried a challenge was your 21 day pegan diet, and it I am still on it and I feel amazing. Some wounds take time to heal, and I think this will be a great addition to staying positive. Dr. Amen, I also had a raccoon, but unlike you it stayed outdoors. I live on a small farm. A few years ago, this raccoon climbed up the porch steps dragging one leg behind him. He was obviously badly hurt. Against my ex-husband's wishes to not feed him and chase him away, I fed him and gave him water and he would rest and sleep afterwards for a couple of hrs. then he would make his way to where he was hiding. It took several months but he got better. Last fall, I saw Rocky (of course that would be his name) he came to garage he figured out that's where I feed my barn cats, he was limping but walking and using all 4 legs, a little fat which told me he was OK. Alos, love the penguin story. Thank you both.
Hi Mark, great videos as always keep them coming. You always talk about people that are overweight, so i was wondering will you make some videos addressing people that are skinny(how to gain weight, some problems of being skinny, etc.) (I'm 185cm tall, weight around 60kg, 22 years old and want to gain some weight). It would be nice to see you talk about it :) And i would love to see you talk about helicobacter pylori. My friend has an issues with it and always takes antibiotics for long periods of times wich i dont think is the best way to go about it.
HAPPINESS Is A DECISION, ….FEEL THE JOY WITHIN OUR HEART….WHERE WE FEEL LOVE, GOD WITHIN Us… True…..MENTAL DECLINE COULD BE DEPRESSING, ...BUT WE NEED NOT DWELL IN NEGATIVITY FOREVER ABOUT IT…INSTEAD, RESEARCH WHAT Is AVAILABLE…LIKE WHAT YOU KIND DOCTORS ARE SHARING, GOD Bless You 😇😇🌈💝❤️💖🕊🍃💫
Also, the brain types Dr. Amen mentioned also align with Ayurveda (over 3000 year old Indian medical approach that basically says food = medicine). Have you studied the commonalities between your research and Ayurveda?
I am a native of Montpelier, VT whose great grandparents were Abnaki Indians that lived 10 miles from me on Spruce Mountain. I caught covid which turned into London covid.March 2020 I got my first shot of Pfizer and had a severe reaction. Got some pills and improved but still not right. Watched videos of you and tried intermittent
@@lauriemeerlarock5649 I got covid in March 2020. I tried to get tested but gave up because I wasn't getting anywhere on the phone. March 2020 got shot so I could go work for myself in Maine.

Apparently, money can buy happiness..unlike Justin Bieber, , you r average person cannot afford IV therapy and other forms of treatment. The majority of us can't even afford to see a holistic Dr because our insurance will not cover it.. Don't get me wrong,, I know we all can eat healthier and exercise but let's be realistic about the fact that there are many options out there that the average person can not afford..
I said that too, when I first started following these holistic docs. But gradually, over time, I discovered that when I gave up restaurant and fast foods and all "junk" foods, that I have plenty to cover the organic and pastured foods plus supplements, that I need. AND I've also decided that I can only do the best I can do and at least I'm 99% healthier and happier than I would if I kept up bad habits and lifestyle. I feel pretty confident that if I stick with a diet of organic whole foods, and make sure I'm avoiding sugars and consuming plenty of anti-oxidants (cruciferous) and detox foods like cilantro, that I at least won't experience the miserable decline of chronic metabolic conditions, diabetes, heart disease, fat and lazy..... :) These docs are giving us the info we need to be our own "wellness practitioners". Meanwhile I save $100 month to be able to afford a functional medicine doc ($600 for an hour consultation) not for routine annual checkups and labs but just in case something comes up that I don't understand or can't fix on my own.
My road in Roseburg Oregon has six doctors living in my neighborhood. I talked to all of them because I jog up and down our hill every day. I would not want to look like any of them. There is only one neighbor who is 72 who looks very good and she was an aerobics instructor and is from Korea. So it has something to do with diet and culture. She and I are the only ones without gray hair.
I was absolutely LOVING this until Daniel Amen praised animal cruelty, especially of whales and dolphins. Such a shame he doesn't apply his intelligence and caring to other forms of life. Now I just find this depressing.
fasting and Keto diet. Boom, it's a miracle. I am going to be stronger than I was before. Biggest think reduction of brain inflammation. Question, can this therapy cure long covid and severe reactions?

Fascinating discussion. As a multiple stroke survivor I am beginning to learn how vital brain care is...thanks guysxx

I love Dr. Amen so much! Went to his clinic but I can't afford all of the supplements. Wish ins. companies covered them as they are truly medicine.
One of the few guests who talks more than Dr. Hyman. I love it!

Are you saying that AFTER recovering from Covid you got vaccinated? If so, why? Did your employer require it?

I certainly hope those famous people he named as his patients gave him their permission to mention their names in public
I can't find where they talk about the safest anesthesia, if you have to have surgery.
What is the best way to take saffron?
Mix it in food.
Did you know almond milk has calcium carbonate ???

Hopefully such things will get cheaper as technology advances. I don't have a spare 4k for a Spect scan either

Protein shake !! Still a process food 😳 what this guy talking about 🥴
What kind of protien powder do you enjoy and do you consume one daily? What time, in the morning? Thank you 😊.
I hope it wasn't whey powder. Dr Hyman should ask him about that
