Personaly I got issue with Fumoto and honda pilot 2cond gen .. followed instruction which needed extender (extra $$... so you get valve, extension and pipe connector 3 parts ) to fit as my oilpan have a cavity for the plug .. but with recommended extender valve didn't clear exhaust pipe to install.. .ended up going with valvomax ...
Huh. I just ordered a valvo max for my 24 Odyssey. I have not seen the pilot's setup but I was concerned about clearance with the exhaust pipe as well. Fumoto told me I needed a long valve plus a 1 inch extension which I didn't love because that makes the valve even closer to the ground. Saw a random Scotty kilmer video by chance which was the first time I heard of valvo max. We will see but if you got it on your pilot no problem that makes me think it will probably work on the Odyssey as well
2nd Gen Honda Pilot owner as well. Fumoto was available at a local store and almost went with it. Thank you for the info and Adventure Squad for the video!
Had a fumoto on my old diesel truck for 12 years. The concerns about being hit are largely overblown. If you don't have skidplates and are worried about ripping a hole in your oil pan, then you shouldnt' use either of these products, honestly. If you accept the tiny risk of that happening, then it boils down to whether you want to have to use a special tool to drain (easy to lose) or just be able to drain without searching for the mating part. Fumoto FTW.
I installed the ValvoMax on my wife’s Subaru and my Ford Transit maybe 7 years ago. Best thing I ever did to help make oil changes less messy. I will be installing them on my new 4Runner and wife’s Ascent.
For clean work I’m enjoying them, my driveway is clean and I don’t need a drain pan, I drain straight back into my empty containers ready to drop off at the auto parts store. That’s a huge time savings for me!
Interesting. Where did it leak from (oil pan threads or under the cap)? I’m wondering if some degree was in there keeping the valve from completely sealing.
I don't have either, but my concern is the plug ending up with snow, road salt, etc in moving parts during the winter. Seems like the valvomax is sealed off from the outside when you're not using it. The fumoto seems like there's more stuff exposed to go wrong. Thing is...removing the traditional bolt isn't really a big deal. Being able pour directly into the disposal container would be a big advantage but since the oil filter replacement drips oil you need a separate pan anyways...so I just end up sticking with the traditional bolt.
Depends on what you drive. Toyota has drains in the bottom of their oil filters and on the new Tundra it has a place to catch the oil and a place for a hose. So you can run either doubt into a pan or container
i currently have the valvomax on my F150. And just bought another valvomax for my 4runner. The fumoto key spring is the con since over time it can gum up, adding an additional step for cleaning. at least for my driving i take my 4runner on the trail and even though i have a skid plate, usually gets caked with thick mud. to fumoto is a No Go for me. the valvomax does drain slow with the key + hose.
I have Fumoto valves on our three cars. Makes the oil changes easier and cleaner. They have never leaked a single drop of oil. No tools to start the drain.
Which one is smaller length wise? I don't have a ton of room and want to ensure it won't hit my skid plate. I'm going to buy whichever one is shorter (for more clearance)
I believe they were pretty much identical however the valvomax appeared to use more metal in construction so it’s heavier making me think less prone to bending and breakage. So I guess all being equal length, do you want something beefier and the damage may reach your oil pan or something lighter where it may still reach your oil pan but might also act as kind of a fuse for damage. I can say it did stick out more than a drain plug, maybe twice as long if I remember correctly. Maybe someone else can help chime in here. Great thought for your build tho. Good luck.
@@AdventureSquadOverland I’m not too worried about damage as long as it doesn’t contact my skid plate. Thank you for the reply I’m definitely leaning towards the Valvomax. I
Valvomax but only bc my friend agreed to try fumoto. I very much enjoy valvomax and the security of the hose attachment. Fumoto attaching the hose is press on so little faster but I just don’t want any spills so valvomax for my first drain plug mod.
@@nickv4073 - People complain about everything. Who's in so much of a hurry that they can't wait an extra 5 mins while doing an oil change? Take that time to check your tire pressures, write up labels for the oil change dates, prep the new oil filter, etc.
he Valvomax is so much better because the valve is inside the component while with the Fumoto and like, if a small rock or something hits the external valve, it will open, your oil will drain and your engine may blow!
I have an EZ drain, similar design to the Fumoto. They recommend putting a small hose clamp on it to prevent the lever from accidentally moving. I ignored this and paid the price. Wife drove over a chunk of icy snow and it flipped the lever. She drove it about 5 kms as the oil slowly drained out. Wonderful. Luckily she turned it off in time and the engine was not ruined. There was less than a liter in it. After that, I used a stainless hose clamp, which adds another step to an oil change, albeit only 10 seconds, but requires a screw driver or socket. I think I'll try the Valvomax now, on my other car, despite it being more expensive.
well.. if you really got to piss someone off so much to do so .. they will use nail and hummer and get your oilpan busteD :) but easier to get all 4 wheels and i ll be more money to fix ;)

Good info for our community to be aware of. We have people here with all likes of vehicles. Pinned. Thank you.
Holyshit ty for the comment I was moments away from ordering for my gen 2 pilot

I went with a fumoto for my Prius- works great. Cheers
Great choice

Same. I totally enjoy the modification, especially when cleanups are hard like my driveway. Thanks for watching.
I got a ValvoMax for Xmas this year. I will be installing it on my 4Runner on the next oil change.
I have been using the Fram sure drain for over 20 years. Love them.
I'm using the Valvomax ODP in 3 vehicles; 2013 Tacoma. 2010 Porsche Cayman S and a 1989 Ford Mustang LX Sport. Made in USA by a veteran to boot.

ran the Valvomax on BMW R1200G. It started to leak after the first oil change... Ended up removing it, Shame because I really liked it:(

@@AdventureSquadOverland under the cap... Possibly something in the check valve. I didn't want to risk it as my rides average 500 to 600 miles.

Sounds like good experience with both. Thanks for the feedback, I agree 💯
My threads were goofed up so i re threaded bigger but I didn’t go straight. Now i have a small leak. Might jb weld this and hope for the best.
Sorry to hear it bro. Maybe a rubber washer or gasket maker “the good stuff”
Both get the job done. I got the valvomax.

No issues here as well with either system.
I live in the uk and can't get Fumoto valves shipped cheaply, what are the chinese copys like? Or any other better option for us in the uk?
Fumoto made in japan good stuff
It’s been around for a long time for good reason
The filmoto work work on my Colorado because the drain plug is in a ressesed hole in the oil pan and the filmoto doesn’t have enough clearance
I love both of them.
@shopdog831 Should try the real fumoto next time. Filmoto is a knock off.
I've found that the flow rate is pretty negligible when the oil is still hot.
Technically you should be able to cut the hose on valve max if you dont want it right?
Yep

Valvo max is too slow at draining . I have them on all three cars and not happy waiting to drain .
For me seems same as fumoto when we drain same time. Anyone else have some input?
Dude, its not like you have to watch it drain. Just walk away and relax. Come back later.
Agreed. It’s fast enough that when u get the filter off it’s been done.

I can’t recall. Pretty similar.

Almost. Give them a call.
Is this a legit mod? I’m worried anyone can just go under the truck and flip the switch 😂

Yes, they are all similar.
I tried a fumoto and didn't like it, due to slow draining!
Which model?
It was downright WEIRD
fumoto ftw
