    Great work. I just recently went through this and with help from the folks on Raft Discord found a solution. I have grass plots on top of my building housing my honey farm which is covered on all sides except for 1 side that is completely open. The fix was to place another roof over the top of my animals and the grass plots. Since I have done this, I have not had any issues and no longer have to play scarecrow building sim. I have only recently come back to Raft, since the update and really appreciate your videos. Very helpful with lots of good, solid info. Thank you!

    One thing I noticed that was lovely - vertical clearance! Those same plots were on top of the roof, but the seagull went into the smaller building, not the larger one with the flowers. Which is good, because that's pretty much my plan for my small raft idea.

  • @robertwallace1415
    @robertwallace1415 2 года назад +4

    Thanks for doing all of this testing! I had a few plots and a beehive under some stairs with grass plots almost directly above...no seagulls. I completely re-constructed the back of my raft to move everything up one floor to expand my beehive operation (with your design BTW!) and the grass plots/animals on top...seagulls galore! Now back to the drawing board! Gonna try the roof over the grass plots trick from another commenter...so much for an open lawn area. I will have it figured out for my next redesign lol!

  • @lapin-rouge

    Very great work! It’s interesting that the doors were giving you issues - I’ve employed no-wall roofs to my raft (sections of the raft where I place pillars two spaces apart from each other in a circular or rectangular pattern, add a singular ring of second-level floors for roofing panels to be built off of, then add a roof to the top; hit me up if this is confusing and you can come see it) in some places and placed some watermelons underneath it. No issue, for some reason. Not that it’s worth looking into, but for anyone who wants a more open concept, just know you can!

  • @allandnothing5338
    @allandnothing5338 2 года назад +3

    The grass plots were the culprits! Thanks for the testing! I thought that adding a third floor stopped the attacks, but I just realized that it's moving the grass when redesigning my first floor that (unknowingly) solved the issue. That being said, having an enclosed building isn't necessary. I've had some plants in a wall-less room (only partially walled), and not in the center of the room, never being attacked, I haven't tested it but it seems that as long as the plants are far enough (~2 to 3 squares) under the roof the seagulls algorithm treat it as if the room is enclosed.

    Started playing raft 3 days ago. Seagulls are very annoying, destroying my crops every time I leave the raft to explore/farm from an island. I usually take out all the crops out from the crop plot before leaving the raft. Thank you for showing all the tests. This video is really helpful.

    This is really good to know. Although the only reason I plants things now is for seagull
    meat, I still admire your scientific process.

    • @seeshellgaming6883
      @seeshellgaming6883  3 года назад +5

      heres my tip for that cause i need seagull meat too for some of the recipes. Do the seagull proof and then put down bird nests. the seagulls will think that there are no crops to attack and then will go for the nests to land in.

    • @Car_Mo
      @Car_Mo 3 года назад +2

    I have seen seagulls attack planter boxes mounted on external walls. The seagull would glitch through the walls. I have never put any plants next to the greenhouse, but I have had advanced tree plots within less than one square and they NEVER attack. I also had small medium, and large plant plots (regular and advanced of each) the level below and maybe 1 squares away and nothing. I put grass in my greenhouse always and I have used both regular and advanced planter boxes)... no problems. I do old wood with windows and have used peaked and flat roof, and even double high windowed walls to enclose trees and other plants in the same treehouse. I have used flat and peaked roofs fine and palm roofs fine. I have even left the door open but I did not have any planter boxes in the square in front of the door, but I did have them in the next square over with no problems. Now the one I have grass in I have never had problems, but I always keep the door closed because I have animals in that (and yes you can put planter boxes on top of grass plots as long as the animals can reach a tiny bit of the grass plot (they can not path over... or even around planter boxes so I keep them against the walls. The only thing I can think that is different is I had my grass and flowers on the second story and the other greenhouse with my fruits and vegetables was in another greenhouse on the first story, but I forgot to put a door and had a hole in my roof and both times the lower greenhouse was attacked, but NEVER the upper one. The seagulls will even path around corners and down hallways, but if you put an open door in there they will not attack. Now this second greenhouse I did not add until after Chapter 3 came out, but I have always run a greenhouse with flowers and grass plots.
    So I can put tree plots within 1 square if they are on the same level and I can have a second greenhouse just outside of 1 square away a level lower. I even have shoes in my bedroom in a different section with flowers the level below and that was maybe 2-3 squares away. I also have trees in plots that on the same level less than a square away on the second level too. And I have never had attacks if I leave the door open as long as it was not the square the door was on. You can check it. I do run a few mods, but I still get seagull attacks if I have any holes in the roof or no door. It would be impossible for me to have this stuff 8 blocks away because my raft is only 7x8 squares. When I had holes in the lower greenhouse they ONLY attacked the lower greenhouse. The thing with the tree plots really confuses me. And while I had the greenhouse below attacked several times because of holes... they never attacked the upper one. This was after chapter 3 was released, so maybe they fixed some of these problems.

    one thing I didnt see that im curious about, can you make a multi-floored green house? is the rule that as long as each crop plot is encased in a building then its fine? and the only ones that would not work is if it is exposed to the outside? because it seems like having multiple buildings side by side was fine, just didnt see anyone cover if going vertical was also fine.

    Just a dumb question, you put foundation armor on your entire raft for the looks or for the shark attacks? I'm pretty sure as long as you put them around the entire raft he won't attack the middle of it because it was patched, but I also love the look of the new foundation armor so I understand if that's the reason xD
