I work at Amazon and we do desperately need a union. If it ever comes to a point where we try to organize, I'd ask that the rest of the public please support us. I'm sure if there were strikes or walkouts the public would turn its fangs on us and throw us under the bus because their 2-day shipping might get delayed, but believe me, this place grinds people into dust and literally works them until they die, trying to fire any old people who even miss their target goal by TWO FUCKING PERCENT. I had one friend who worked there to his death, and another who has cancer, can't afford to not work, and they're trying to write him up for missing rate by a couple percentage points. I've made some poor decisions in my life that landed me there, been there over 3 years, and I will say they do some things right when treating their workers, but so many other things we NEED to have the power to fight back on but have been stripped of. I fucking hate America because of how we treat workers. Be better America. Give me a reason to love you.

That's part of the push for the technocracy; make everything automated and run by robots. So far, they're just trying to work human beings _like_ robots until they get robots to take over. You know that new grocery store that opened that's totally automated? The only thing humans do there is stock the shelves.
The way workers like yourself are treated really isn't given that much press, and when we look at all of the 5 or 6 guys who own over 90% of all media in the US, we can see why. It's a disgrace.

Yep was coming to say that. He was asked to thin it out for the show and once it got picked up for season 2 he told them he didn't want it done anymore in fear of one day it wouldn't grow back.
@@therealoneeighth That's interesting. I heard that they made his hair look like that to make him seem more "villainous" and when they saw that people really disliked Michael they changed up his appearance in the second season so he was more likable. Cool fact that I didn't know, thanks!
I work at Amazon Flex in Boston Massachusetts. I joke about the job as slave labor due to their ridiculous expected rates (pretty much everything is speed oriented, the time it takes to dispatch packages, to pick items, to scan and label “slaam” packages, etc.) but I don’t think it’s gotten to the point of needing a bottle to urinate in... but pickers constantly have to pick items so the Managers have a good pick rate percentage, and don’t get any time to sit down and take a breather. They can ask to use the restroom but they are expected to be quick.
All the Managers really care about are their numbers. Did the associates meet the pick rate goal? Did the Fresh and Prime Now associates dispatch within 10 minutes? (scanning heavy 15-25lb packages and moving them quickly to a cart) and did they avoid misorts (scanning a package that is intended to go to route 5 but is placed on route 4)?
It’s pretty shitty. But they hire literally anyone. You apply, take their shitty quiz, and if you pass you get an email asking for an orientation date and if you pass the drug test you’re hired. No interview, and you just pick a start date. Sometimes that can take a month or longer (so enjoy waiting for a start date with no job)
Then on your first day, they assume their training videos were enough and that you understand how their process works. There’s no real training. They tell you what to do, and if you do it wrong, then they “train” you. And if you don’t get it after a few weeks, you’re done. If you cannot meet their expected speed rates, you’re out.
The Managers can be laid back or really strict or condescending. Like one guy I work with is pretty easy going, just tells what to do, and if mistakes are made, he’ll just retrain us, but another woman on the other hand will say shit like “yall can’t read or something?” and another Manager will just scream “you need to move faster! This is how Amazon reviews employees!”
Overall Amazon is a wonderland for customers but a shithole for employees.

By reading the comments I think most people reaffirmed what Ethan was saying about marijuana being put it on a pedestal. You criticize it at all and everyone comes out swinging acting like you insulted their grandma. Ethan was stating the experiences he had with marijuana and I know people that cant smoke it because it makes them go psycho. If you enjoy smoking, eating, whatever, go for it. But give some room for people who want nothing to do with it.

@Ethan, We don't spend nearly 50% of our taxes on Military. If we look at 2016, Military spending was about 16% of our total Federal Spending. The largest portions being spent on Social Security, Unemployment, and Labor at 33%, and Medicare and health at 27%. After that the next largest would be payments on interest from debt at 7%. Keep in mind that this doesn't include your state taxes, none of which go to Military spending. California's biggest expenditures would be Health care at 35%, pensions at 19%, Education at 16%, and welfare at 8%. Let's assume your federal income tax bracket puts you at 24% and you live in Cali, so your state income tax is about 13.3%. If you were to look at how much of your total income tax (State + Federal) goes to Military spending it would be about 10.4%. If you still think that's too high, that's completely fine. It's just important to get the facts straight so you start with a valid premise.

I didn't say it wasn't. I think you're confused about it though. Discretionary spending is already a part of the overall spending. Military spending might be 50% of discretionary spending, but discretionary spending is a percent of overall spending, making military spending still about 16% of all spending. It's still inaccurate to say that 50% of all spending or 50% of your tax dollars go to military. Just like if you make 50k a year and after savings, taxes, and bills you have 10k to spend as you like, and you spend 5k of that amount on travel expenses you spent 50% of your discretionary spending on travel, but you cannot say you spent 50% of your total income on travel. That is just wrong.

So good to hear normal people with normal takes on the issues. It's important ya know I really respect these guys for saying what they feel here unabashed. I'm sure everyone will tell them to stay off the political stuff for fear of loosing a part of the audience or excluding future members.... But I don't think that's the case. In fact I think the contrary. People don't like fake politics or low brow not thought out just plain ignorant people touting their opinions like they know whats going on. I don't know man. I mean I work in Romania for an American company, Plexus. But the conditions are really pretty good. I mean we have a 30 minute break for eating where the company gives you the first and second meal for free. We also have around tree 5 to 10 minute breaks for a quick coffee or smoke.
But I guess the fact that the people are starting to wake up and realise that they don't have to break their backs to survive is also a thing.
And as for the big bilionare guy, well it's not his fault. Most of the time it's the fault of the local manager or supervisor.
Yeah. Weed is a thing I smoke because it's fun and controls my restless leg. It's no miracle, it has risks and side effects like any other medication.
A big thing about weed is state of mind, also, if you're worried when you take a hit, you're going to be a paranoid while high. You have to be in a familiar environment surrounded by people you trust the first few times, if you ever feel like trying it again, small doses and trusted friends. It's a powerful psychotropic and deserves respect.
Also, I think people glorify alcohol to a ridiculous extent far greater than weed, it's just so deeply ingrained in our culture that you don't notice it. Everyone has a handful of stories about the times they drank way too much, most people have nights they don't remember, and everyone treats that like it means you've had a great time instead of treating it as "Holy shit you drank so much poison your brain literally stopped being able to form memories why would you do that get some fucking help". People give each other a hard time about glorifying weed, but we've done the same to other things with minimal attention.

Jordan West it absolutely deserves respect. I have been psychologically and physically addicted to cannabis for the past 2 years. I’m at 3 months clean right now, but getting off of it is not easy. It comes with night sweats, temperamental outburst, insomnia, nausea, and physical pains. Cannabis absolutely needs to be respected just like any other substance that alters your psyche

Hell lots of cultures have religious ties to drugs like DMT. So to say that weed is this special drug that is glorified when other drugs aren't is just plain wrong. I smoke weed regularily and definitely support its legalization, but I totally understand your notion. People act like it's this perfect drug that has no bad sides but it's not true. Every substance in this world can be abused, weed included and it can be dangerous. Alcohol is way more dangerous - it's proven - but is treated way more normally than weed which is probably why people put it on a pedal like that. We just want to smoke (responsibly) in peace. That's how this whole community got together I guess. It's totally fine not to like it, I've actually had two bad trips and the first time I smoked I didn't even feel anything. When I'm mentally not in a good state, smoking will make it worse. It's good to smoke when I'm at home and I can chill and feel safe, otherwise I'll get paranoid really bad. You really have to be in the right mindset, and I think it's just not for everybody, which is totally fine. Use it responsibly, know the drug and its effect on you, and it's honestly a great drug to relax and goddamn... music is so good high. And nature documentaries. It lets you see things from a totally different side. That's why it's so amazing to me.

Probably because they have been fighting for a long time and are still fighting for it to be legalized and accepted across the country. So it's annoying to hear the same dumb comments they have heard for years about weed being "dangerous". It's just as dangerous if not less so than alcohol, but you do hear H3 on St. Patrick's Day being like "oh well just be careful guys, alcohol can be dangerous so". Because it is socially accepted and people have the general knowledge about it.

I have met people who are waaay into the weed culture, but most people are chill with it and don't go out of the way to discuss. I think everyone is affected by weed differently and i have been around people who have different mental and physical problems who are definitely affected by it more than myself lets say, at least in terms of strength and i haven't smoked that long. Also, id argue that alcohol is glorified in a social way as well because it is legal everywhere. Eh just my thoughts :) nice podcast
I worked at an Amazon fulfillment center and it wasn’t a bad gig for me. I worked 3 and a half 12 hour shifts each week. However I worked in a department where we printed magazines and CD’s/DVD’s, so it had air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter unlike the other departments in the building. I always heard that people envied our department because we seemed to have it a lot better than everyone else. However I did get backlash for using the bathroom sometimes or coming back from break 1-3 minutes late when the walk to a bathroom or a break room was like 5 minutes. It was bullshit! Anyways, just thought I’d share my experience there. Love you guys! Keep up the good work!!!💙

Weed was a miracle for me. I had an advanced case of PTSD and every time I would go to sleep I’d get night terrors and I ended up sleeping between 0-4 hours a night and it drove me crazy. Literally. Then I’d smoke and I’d sleep through the night and I went from having them 4x+ a week to 1x every two weeks. Some people it really helps, others get more anxiety, paranoid, etc.

Baird Carver well he says he used to have bad anxiety and depression and in another podcast he said he feels “retarded” the day after. He might actually have dpd, it’s a mental disorder that’s exasperates anxiety or depression and makes people feel like they’re not in reality. I suffer from it & it sucks cause I love weed but even a low and mellow indica strain would still mess with his brain, if he does have it. I’m not diagnosing, just expressing what I think I guess haha

In Belgium you get 20 days from the government and then additional days off from your work place, all paid for. They are not mandatory per se, but most companies urge you to use them all up, especially since they don't generally transfer and they generally don't want you keeling over on the job. Additionally, some of the horror stories from the US where people get fired for having been sick one day too long just does not and cannot happen here. That company would get slammed by the government HARD. Additionally, women get pregnancy leave for, I believe, also a minimum of three months but it can be extended in a variety of ways. On top of that, father's can also take one of two options for leave after the birth of a child, ranging from 10 days they can take for the duration of a year (together or spread out) to just working a part time fashion for months, etc.

Chinese work week: 6 days (possibly even Sunday depending on the order(s) being processed), 15 - 16 hours per day. I visit the factory I order from, 6 times out a year, and wouldn't say that Chinese work conditions are by any means better. You have to take into fact the living conditions of the factory workers are: 8'x8' dorms (on factory property), abysmal air filtration / heat dispersion (swamp coolers + humidity = why bother), and everyone smokes indoors. you can find articles relating to deaths in China from mishandling food (I only eat veggies there). I lose 10 pounds everytime I visit. So Ethan, if your looking for a diet, go to China!
Forgot to add, I think the fulfillment center conditions are awful and need to change. Communism is NOT the answer, go to China (not Beijing) Dongguan/ Chingpangzhen distict for a taste of factory life over there. All that said, this Channel rocks. Keep up the good work guys.

I used to work for Amazon in Chattanooga and they have this HUGE warehouse that’s like 5 stories high and it looks like the biggest library you’ve ever seen and you walk through the stacks picking up individual orders and you end up walking about 10 or 11 miles a day no shit. Work for 10.50 an hour and it is like being a fuckin slave. Can’t bring anything metal into the facility so you can’t bring your phone in there. People used to steal memory cards by the thousand
Starting this year, in Italy we are going to know where our tax money is getting spent! ;)
