    For the people who are confused about why Hiyori remembered Yato, you have to understand that:
    1. She still can see people from the far shore as explained by her grandma, it's in her blood.
    2. Thanks to Kofku, who tied Yato and Hiyori's ema wooden charms, their destiny is to be together.

    i watched noragami years ago and it was one of my favorite anime. a couple weeks ago, i saw that the manga ended, so i read it in its entirety in like 2 days? and i personally liked the ending, so when i hopped on social media, i was really surprised by how many people hated the ending. i guess it makes sense, people who've followed the manga for over 13 years since its beginning must've been pissed off by the open ending, but from my point of view, it wrapped up the story nicely. to be honest, it felt like the aot ending in 2021 all over again, but this time im with the ending defenders. anyway, it's nice to see someone else who shares the same opinions.

    Another thing i like to add is that , I think Bishamon needs to get off of Yato's ass about turning Kazuma into a nora . She needs to except the fact that Kazuma cares almost as much for Yato as he does for her . With all the amount of times that Yato has saved Bishamon from death I think her letting him share Kazuma with her is the least she could do to pay him back for all hes done for her.

    I read Noragami from 2017 to early 2020 after watching the anime, only stopping because i had to switch manga sites, and it wasn't on my replacement one. I was going to wait until a season 3 was announced to go back to the manga, but then it ended. The series was important to me, so i decided to reread from the beginning. I can now confidently say that i love the story in its entirety. When i found this video, i was confused why the ending would have to be defended.

    One of my biggest problems was how Yukine ended up following father and getting blighted again.
    I also didnt like how Nora was handled over the whole story.
    Nora litterally tried to kill Yukine at one point, then gets redeemed all of a sudden, then betrayed them all again, then in shown at the end with Yukine, Hiyori, and Yato.
    I hate her character handling so much.

    i mean it really didnt feel like a open ending everything made since for a good ending , nora just stayed around like a family , and hiyori clearly went years without contact with the far shore and yato and her were tied in the matchmaking , so her remembering yato after so long was beautiful and it was funny she wrote in her book he tried acting like he didnt know her at first, and bishamon chasing around yato is hilarious bishamons character is brash so deep down she apreciates yato its just banter but its cute she cherishes kazuma and doesnt want yato to continuously have him , pretty text book closed ending to me , obviously yato and hiyori are going to be apart of each others lives

    omg i’m so glad someone defended the ending because i feel like i was the only one that liked it. i’m not usually a big fan of opened ended endings, nothing really against them i just like a conclusion where i don’t have to wonder or speculate (if that’s the right word lol). now i know the manga went on a hiatus for a few years (im not sure how many, and my minimal research didn’t give me any answers :(( ) i just can kinda tell when im reading it, when it came back but sorry if any of my info is wrong i did a lot of minimal research. there were a few things i felt like didn’t get explained, there was just things i thought they would go into more depth before the manga ended (i know it was on a hiatus due to personal and health reasons so i completely understand). I was thinking about them earlier but now i literally can’t remember :p (if i do I’ll probably just reply to this tbh) it was more i think like lore related stuff (?) but my brain just loves to forget lmao. i was just wondering if i was the only one who felt this way, or i just missed something lol. in all seriousness i loved this video sm, its so weird to see videos about the end of noragami, especially when i started this series in 6th grade and now im in 10th :,) its nice to know people care about it just like u do. thanks for ur awesome content

    I mean that kinda goes against the entire point of the main conflicts that yato faced early lol he had to cut ties with hiyori and she had to accept that but they both declined and always wanted to stay with each other so..... it also undermines the significance of her making a shrine for yato early since she was his first true follower and now she's permanently gone never to remember him the ending is meh it doesn't really provide a true solution to "what happens if a forgettable god meets a girl that'll never forget him" it just makes the girl that never wanted to forget him literally forget him its just a slap in the face imo to the dedicated fans that followed along from the beginning and those that are holding out hope for season 3 of the anime till this day lol

    I wanted it to be revealed that Yato was in fact Tsukuyomi ...
    The perfect ending for me:
    Yato is in fact Tsukuyomi, the God of Moon, a super mayor God, Amaterasu's long lost sibling, he won't die, Father was never his lifeline, Yaboku is only one of his ''true'' names, that is why the series is called NORAgami - a God with many names, like a shinki with multiple names is called a Nora. Noticed how we never actually saw his birth? Father claimed Yato was born from HIS wish, but what if he only picked up a newly reincarnated baby God and raised it taking advantage of the fact that Gods lose their memories when they reborn?? He made Tsukuyomi believe he was his son and a minor God of Calamity and made the Moon God work for him by deceiving him. This was foreshadowed by Ebisu's sidestory and by Kugaha's attempt to replace the current Bishamon. I wanted to see Tenjin's face and Daikoku's and all the other's faces when it was revealed that the poor tracksuit wearing goofball they all made fun of was one of the most ancient and important gods. Also, explains nicely how did he survive for so long without followers ... he actually has millions of them, he just doesn't know (his pipe dream was reality, lol). Yato is also too powerful for a cult, defeating the likes of Bishamon and Takemikazuchi ?? ... And Amaterasu wanting to save him from Yomi so much she secretly went to the Near Shore? Only makes sense if she had a reason to care. She was so sure hearing his true calling would make Yato happy ... but, Yato obviously hated the name Yaboku, but what about Tsukuyomi?? And why would Izanami want to keep Yato and Ebisu so badly, but not Bishamon? Because Yato and Ebisu were originally her sons. And the idea of Ebisu and Yato being brothers is so sweet. Only they both forgot each other, because they reincarnated.
    Yato was lurking in the dark at night all the time, there are many shots of him in the manga with the Moon in the background ... even Yukine said that in his dream/memory about the night when he was murdered, if he looked more closely Yato was there with him and it was comforting ... and on the panel of his death Yukine stares out from the refrigerator and sees the Moon on the sky.
    Nora pointed out that how weird/silly it was from a God of Calamity that he actually loved people and humanity, and that Yato started to rebell against father because of this. I know Sakura softened him, but still he had to have a good side even before, Sakura only unlocked it. If father's wish was ''cull the herd'', how could Yato have so many good traits?
    Also, it was a recurring joke that Yato was very old, constantly asked Yukine and Hiyori if they knew how long he had been a god? But, they ignored his bragging ... If he had been Tsukuyomi, he would have been one of the first deities ever. Which would have explained why most of the heavenly gods didn't recognize him except Amaterasu - because they never saw him before he ''was lost'', because they didn't even exist then. So many hints towards a twist, a shocking revelation that shakes the heavens again, but nope ... he was indeed a noname loser, who survided thanks to a meme ... such a lame, boring ending ... and I imagine their life will be boring too after this ...

    • @rizacreatorYT
      @rizacreatorYT  10 месяцев назад +16

      Wow, I really like that as an ending too. I thought he would also be revealed to be some other god and that also sounds like a great outcome, but I think maybe the author didn’t go that root because it would weaken his character arc. Him going from a selfish person doing anything to be known and praised by others to a selfless person who is kind and will do anything for others even if they don’t know who he is. I think keeping the status quo as the ending shows how Hyori effected the far shore, the biggest one being changing Yato into a better person. However, I also was hoping he would have a greater tie to the heavenly government and some bigger role among gods, but i guess not :/ so that was a little disappointing. I still like the ending though. I think your idea would of been a great plot twist though

    • @AliceBlackwood
      @AliceBlackwood 8 месяцев назад +11

      @@rizacreatorYT Yato being revealed as Tsukuyomi (or Susanno even) wouldn't take away or weaken his growth as a person. On the contrary, if Amaterasu had offered him his old place by her side as a thanks for cleansing the world of the Sorcerer, but Yato would have refused, because he felt that he belonged among humans on the Near Shore and didn't want to abandon his old friends like Kazuma, Daikoku, Mayu, Nora and others for fame, that would have been even more powerful. But, like this he stayed, well, because he didn't have elsewhere to go anyway ... he remained a loser, a False God who will always depend on more successful people around him ... forever (or until his meme goes out of fashion, meh). Ever since Fujisaki was revealed, Yato was constantly told that he could NOT stand on his own two feet. I wished this to be changed.
      The last chapter ideally - for me - should have been about him discovering his true past and visit places that - unbeknown to him - belonged to him, but were neglected. His "family" - Tenjin, Kofuku, Ebisu, maybe even Takemikazuchi or Bishamon and of course their shinkis could have shown up and helped him fix and repair the old ruin that was once his massive shrine. Also, a good opportunity for some joke, like Yukine doing handmade placards to advertise the new Yato. And then an emotional ending with Hiyori who - lost all her memory - is the first human who visits the shrine Yato made HIS HOME (he's not a hobo anymore) as it's on a rather remote place and still a bit shabby. And Yato listens to her prayers, but lets her go without showing himself.
      Noragami easily could have been one of my favorite series if only they got the ending right, I'm dissapointed precisely because I cared for the character ... Was Yato becoming a TikTok material the best idea they could came up with?

    I thought the ending was ok but some things that bothered me that were left unclear was the unknown statis of Nora in the end , another thing that puzzed me is that Yukine still had his Hagusa name despite father being dead and there really being no explainon on how his ayakashi form works , and why didnt Kazuma turn into an ayakashi after learning about his past ? One thing i did really like about the ending was that Yato keeped Kazuma has his shiki . Yukine is abviously his guide/blessed vessel but l like that he has two now and that his second one is Kazuma given that Yato and him are almost as close as him and Bishamon

    • @rizacreatorYT
      @rizacreatorYT  11 месяцев назад +4

      Yeah, I agree. I definitely would of preferred more clarity on that. I believe the names stay on the shinki even if the god dies and for some reason Amaterasu couldn’t even remove Hagusa and Mizuchi’s names (I’m guessing because it’s in Izanami’s authority but idk). I think Kazuma was fine for the same reason Nana was fine. They don’t dwell as much on the past as Yukine and Nora do.
      Thank you for your thorough comment!

    • @QilinsReverseScale
      @QilinsReverseScale 10 месяцев назад +4

      I also don't like how unexplained it was that Kazuma was fine after realizing his true name and past, but it wasn't a stretch for him to be able to accept it as is. Compared to Yukine, his death/life wasn't as bad - and he was able to resist the manipulation of "father" when Yato and "father" were fighting. Yato exclaimed that Kazuma cares more about Bishamon than his own life/death.
      My own headcanon about it is that Shinki stops becoming an ayakashi even if they remember the past when they're named from the word of yomi. If you remember, Yukine was becoming an ayakashi exactly because he was coming close to the past but when "father" named him using the word (paintbrush) he stopped becoming an ayakashi. In the ending, we see that when Amaterasu rescues the fading Yato, she recovered another word (paintbrush) from Yato. We do not know for sure how Yato had gotten ahold of it. I have two theories about it. One is Yato himself is the paintbrush given form as a god. It could be that when "father" prayed to have a god of culling/calamity, the word transformed into Yato. Later on, we see that father had used masks to control ayakashi but there's no need for that once he obtained the second brush. We know for sure you don't actually need to have the word to control ayakashi, you just need to know the method - as Ebisu was able to replicate (even though it was a failure) the control of ayakashi even without the word. The evidence we have of this is "father" himself. So why would he need the masks if he already has the word? That's because he doesn't have the word during the present times. The other theory (more believable one) is that Yato took another brush from Izanami when he went to Yomi with Ebisu. But as we never saw it, it's hard to really tell which is the truth. Even though it's harder to believe, I like to believe Yato himself is a word of Yomi given form as a god from a prayer.
      But I digress, the answer I have in why Kazuma was able to retain his Shinki form (and resist becoming an ayakashi) is because Yato has the other word. Either of the theory works, but to justify the first theory, I believe the difference between Kazuma and Yukine is that Yukine became a Shinki out of Yato's desire to make him live like a human while Kazuma (named Kazune) was born out of Yato's desire to sacrifice a Shinki (with having the affinity of Yomi since it's closest to death). That's why even though Kazuma got to know his own death through Chiki (Nora/Mizuchi) he didn't falter because Yato had already (subconsciously) used the word to name him.
      However this is all just speculation, we don't actually know how Kazuma was able to retain his Shinki form. My emotional self just likes to believe that Kazuma is just built different that he won't falter even if he remembers his past.

    • @rizacreatorYT

    • @alessandramarcati9234
      @alessandramarcati9234 4 месяца назад +1

      Actually it's explained by Kunimi that if your master "dies" and doesn't take the name away, it stays on you. So Kunimi is a nora against his will, but Ebisu takes him anyway. And the sorcerer's names are even worse, even Amaterasu couldn't take Nora's one away that's why the names stayed on her and Yukine.
      As for Kazuma I guess it's the same thing that happened to Nana, she also knew what happened she just didn't care, I guess even if he died he doesn't become bitter and then corrupted 'cause what he has now makes him happy. I think that what makes shinkis become Ayakashis is the regret o the bitterness of being dead.

And other thing i wanted was them to touch on topic of ultimate vessel , like how shinki are blessed so they talked about how next step of miracles is to have a ultimate shinki or something, i wish they did that last with yukine and kazuma both or one of them to give a closure to their growth and I don't hate other characters changes and growth at end it just left parts a little bit hanging, and if i was gonna say how it should have ended i wanted it where hiyori did lose all her memories but to have a believe that the small shrine that she now have is the symbol if fortune and start praying to it , this would complete hiyori promise of never forgetting yato and yato being reborn as god of fortune in last pages

What happened??! 😭Jokes aside I do wish there was like a little bit more. If they came out with a side story I'd love if it showed a little more of our friend groups.
    I think Nora will be fine since she still is still named by father she just can't be used by anyone which is probably a great thing for her. Thinking about her story and how she was given so many names and used by so many people now she gets to just live. She gets to be like Yukine and live like a human and not everyone's tool.

    While I think it’s true that Yato has changed a lot and is being selfless for letting Hiyori go as his shinki, I think that the alternative of keeping her as a shinki would have been impossible. She had such a huge impact on Yato and Yukine that they couldn’t pretend they didn’t know her before now that her memories are wiped clean as a shinki. She would have quickly been triggered her into remembering and obsessing over her own death. Even the three blessed vessels barely survived this revelation. So it wasn’t just out of pure love that he revived her, it was also a necessity that they maintained their roles as god and human. I mean it still breaks my heart thinking about the sacrifice. That said, now she’s an adult (and not a HS freshman) who can make informed decisions for herself about getting involved with Yato and the far shore. Anyway I loved the series and finished the manga in a week. 😭

      Yeah, I am planning a video on that. There is a lot of Cherry Tree Symbolism. Yukine’s real name is “Spring Tree” (aka Sakura trees) and Sakura is literally named cherry blossom. Hyori “dies” under the Cherry tree Yato meets Sakura at. Tengen’s guide is a Plum Tree spirit which links a little. Yukine’s first shinki friend took care of a Sakura tree and died there. Yato buried Yukine’s body under a cherry tree. Sooooooooo much, i’m planning to explain it more in a video, but i need to reread the series first

      I don’t think so. It’s possible, the author could write some additional content for it, but nothing had been announced

    I could not find the ending chapter but I did find it it a while ago. I only saw the last chapter but could not find the few chapters that lead up to it. Is Hiyori a shinki human hybrid?

      No, her soul completely separated from her body, so Yato named her soul. Her body was dying, even if her life sustained, she would probably be brain dead since her soul was already in the afterlife. Yato cut ties with her so she’d “return back to normal” her wish at the beginning, and she awoke in her body unaware of most of her memories with the far shore people.

    Idk how early Yato is how you describe, his backstory already recontextualises ALL OF THAT like christ.
    He wanted fame to be able to survive without his father and bring people happiness instead of death, and he's been that way ever since the shinki he had in his backstory was hurt in his hands. The ending isn't bad but Yato was already pretty much flawless morally, he was just dealing with abuse at the same time. Yukine says it himself after the end of Ebisu's arc, what he needs to do to become a god of fortune is just the same stuff he's done already, so I don't think the manga sides with your claim that him continuing to be forced into working for his father while resisting is selfish and the wanting to be a celebrity thing was NEVER SERIOUS. Just for example with his inability to save up money undermining that as some sort of goal of his, it was clear from volume 1.

    My biggest complain is that Kazuma x Bishamon didn't become cannon.
    I've been obsessed with them since 2016, I got so excited in 2018 when they announced that manga is coming back, I got so much hopes and all of that was for nothing. Of course, they still have a close relationship with some intimate scenes but it still pisses me of how they didn't make them cannon... All the romantic teasing for majority of manga and anime only to gain nothing from that.
    Low-key same thing with Yato x Hiyori, of course, it's hinted that they became cannon at the end of the series, they even had a kiss (even if it was one-sided) but they still didn't satisfy the majority of fans because of the lack of romantic scenes after all the teasing...
    Overall, I'm happy with Noragami ending, but it could've been better.

      I'm just finding that out now, and I'm devastated at that. I love the series. But everyone deserved a better ending.

    It wasn't a realistic ending, it was just a convenient ending, I recognize the author's health problems as a cause of this ending, but it also seems to me to be the typical bad ending of another japanese manga. I imagine that when someone talks about how realistic a story was, it's just a projection. I don't hate the ending, I just found it to be Meh.
