I don't mind the "lack of detail" of the older sculpts. It makes for easier and quicker painting and I can put more time and effort into the heroes. I think modern sculpts sometimes can be a bit over-complicated and I have to spend too much time on simple chaf models.
Just getting back into the hobby, I used to paint the Lord of the Rings models back in first release. I do feel a little disappointed that some of the standard infantry models (particularly the morranan orks) are a bit out dated (look at the spear guys where the chest and spears merge when there should be no contact), but even in saying that I am impressed with their newer character models. Faramir and the other named rangers look good, and I've picked up Gandalf the white, a nice model I'm happy to have painted.
Thanks so much for checking my video out! The new characters in this box are insane, as well as some of their newer work like Gandalf the White and the Rohan characters! Welcome back to the hobby!
Thnak you Greg for this great video overview! Please report back whenever you get them painted, would be awesome to see. JUst so you know, I would lower the volume of the background music to help enhance the experience.
The terrain is fantastic and is 100% worth the purchase in my opinion. Take some time to google what people are making with the terrain in this box. Full blown castles and towers and stuff. The modularity of the kit is stunning.
I find this GW best game because it’s stable. No new edition every coupe of years. Also I find the models perfect not hard to build and I can play fast. I hope you do more content
Great video and awesome videography! I'm new to this game and have got this set coming in the post! So the weapon choices the hero's have can have a different effect on the battlefield? If so would it be best to learn how to magnetise them? 🤔
You definitely could! However I believe the weapon options are purely cosmetic, and don't have that much effect on the game. I would double check though, just to be safe!
I just got back into the hobby and i still have my old uruk hai, elves and Rohan from the old style i bought in 2009-2010. Personnally i dont mind that they are easy and fast to build cause i find it very hard with my big fingers to glue small details together .i just got back into miniatures but for now im into Bolt Action but as a huge fan of lotr im sur gonna buy minatures from them. Thanks for the video
You're welcome! And welcome back to the hobby! Yeah the older style definitely has it's upsides as well! Only took me an hour or two to build all the models here! Thanks for watching!
I super question when you said that the ranger sprue was older than the gondorian soldier sprue. The gondorian sprue was released with the blue return of the king box set that GW released with the 3rd movie. It was a stand-alone starter that had evolved from the first two ones featuring goblins and aliance, uruk and rohan previously. At this time all of the rangers released were made of metal and were kept metal as such for years and years, in-fact, I believe that the rangers sprue is relatively recent in terms of the full sprue LoTR releases and came around the same time as the plastic wood elves. It was released in that weird time, maybe around 2008 or so where the game was waning in popularity. Do you have exact release dates for these?
I'm pretty much a newcomer to the game, but just as a Tolkien fan, both the orcs and humans, old sculpts or not, look to me to have energetic and dynamic poses-even unpainted. Maybe you GW grognards are just spoiled :)
Oh I'm definitely a little spoiled by GW's quality as of late! But I had a ton of fun with these because back when I was in high school, my brother and I got some of these models since we're both massive fans of Tolkien's work. I had some of these Gondorian Warriors and he had some Goblins from Moria. A lot of time has passed, so unfortunately I've lost my old models along the way. So it was really, really neat for me to build my Gondorians all over again!
Hello, I have seen that the scenery is modular and you can build whatever you want. But my question is: after having a finished building, can it be dismantled to build a different building? Thanks, greetings from Spain!
@@1tohit thanks hehe but that remains to be seen. Maybe with magnets and using my head I invent something. The truth is that it is fun to be able to make different buildings apart from those that are illustrated in the instructions
No way the Rangers are the oldest sprue in the box, the Warriors of Minas Tirith are waaay older. When those came out the only Rangers you could get were metal.
i got clothes for Christmas so have to wait for another 3 weeks at least. I look forward to the scenery on this box set. You should check out Zorpazorp for crazy scale builds of LOTR

Thank you very, very much! Super kind of you to say! Thanks for the support!
He doesn’t consistently post
This was probably the best overview video of this boxed set that I watched on RUclips. Keep it up! I look forward to more content.
Thank you so much! That's very high praise!
The mounted orc and the troll are unreal. the terrain is pretty awesome too !
They're both super awesome!
I remember getting the Moria box set ages ago. :)
That box was iconic! I still have my original Fellowship from that box!

That’s GW's greed. 20 year old models with no updates and they doubled the price.
Your lighting shows off the unpainted models look great.

Sweet vid man. As much as I love the old plastics I was little sad not to get new ones. I really want this set for the new terrain!

Great video! I really enjoy it and it was so cool to see what is in the box.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it
Great video, would love to see more details about this Games Workshop game. How about a battle report as an idea.
Great video and awesome videography!

Actually, I do believe you are totally right here. I seem to have gotten the dates stamped on the sprues mixed up. Good catch on that!
I'm pretty much a newcomer to the game, but just as a Tolkien fan, both the orcs and humans, old sculpts or not, look to me to have energetic and dynamic poses-even unpainted. Maybe you GW grognards are just spoiled :)

Just ordered it
Hello, I have seen that the scenery is modular and you can build whatever you want. But my question is: after having a finished building, can it be dismantled to build a different building? Thanks, greetings from Spain!
Hello from Canada! Unfortunately, the terrain is made of a LOT of little pieces, so it's completely impossible to build it without using glue.
@@1tohit thanks hehe but that remains to be seen. Maybe with magnets and using my head I invent something.
The truth is that it is fun to be able to make different buildings apart from those that are illustrated in the instructions
Small detail you got incorrect - the Gondor warriors are the oldest sculpts, dating from 2003 and the Rangers are from about 2008ish.
Oh you're totally right! I think I got the dates stamped on the sprues mixed up between them. Thanks for the insight!
@@1tohit No worries! Great video overall really enjoyed it!
Oh wow, those sprues are spares. That if anything is a pretty clear sign of their age.
No way the Rangers are the oldest sprue in the box, the Warriors of Minas Tirith are waaay older. When those came out the only Rangers you could get were metal.
Agreed. The WoMT came out in the RotK starter, at which point there were very few plastic sets.
more mesbg please
lol yeah those models are like 20 years old. $200+ is criminal.
to much talk and not enough build
subtitles - the battle of Australia has begun 😁
i got clothes for Christmas so have to wait for another 3 weeks at least. I look forward to the scenery on this box set. You should check out Zorpazorp for crazy scale builds of LOTR
Definitely! I hope you can get your hands on this box soon! And YES! Zorpazorp does some absolutely incredible work!
