B is not blue, B is for energizing the reversing valve in heat. O is for energizing the reversing valve in cool. Most brands require the o terminal, exceptions are Rheem, Ruud, and Weathering. If you try to use the blue wire ( common ) at the B terminal, you will instantly blow a fuse, or transformer on power up.
I have a wall heater that has a new thermstat when it reaches temp it cuts off but then when temp droos it will not kick back on until you hit the wall by the thermostat does not work hitting the thermostat only when you hook t the wall
What is the normal operation? Is it Burner/Flame come, then the blower turn on the same time or the Burner/Flame come on for 30 second then flame turned off, then the blower turn on next? I have problem that the Blower turn on too late and it is blowing kind of "warm" air and not hot air. (flame come out then after 1-2 minute the blower turn on). What is the average number (ie 0.34) for an old 1995 Carrier Furnace/ analog (mercury) honeywell thermostat) Thanks.
Call for heat. Check pressure switch to make sure it's open. Energize inducer motor. Safety check to make sure pressure switch closes while doing pre purge. Energize ignitor, usually depending on age and brand 10 to 30 seconds. Energize the gas valve. Deenergize the ignitor, up to 10 seconds to prove flame. 30 seconds later the blower energizes. The heat anticipator setting must be set by the amperage on the 24v heat wire (w) using the 10 wrap on an amp meter. If it's old enough, your fan/limit switch might be out of calibration.
@@ChilesHeatCool but is it used for power? I have exactly the same thermostat in my house as your video. I’m trying to understand where the “C wire” is for my new Nest thermostat
Yes it is used for the 24v coil on the contactor in the condenser unit to turn the air conditioner on. It's not a constant 24v, only when the air conditioner runs.
@@ChilesHeatCool oh my husband put a new one it's not mercury ... I use to be able to adjust it I dont know why it's not going on. Thanks for trying to help.
Might be bad or you need to set the heat anticipatory. I've also seen were if there is a hole behind the thermostat that it can create drafts, depending on if the wires were run through the return duct and up the wall.
@@ChilesHeatCool Thank you for the fast response. I went to Ace Hardware and picked up one of their store brand thermostats. (AT10-1141SA). It doesn't have those options. Maybe I need to take it back
@@ChilesHeatCool Thank you! I looked for the W wire at the furnace panel and found it to be completely broken off. So, I stripped it and reattached it. I switched on the electricity to the furnace, and switched the thermostat to heat, but nothing happened. Now there doesn't seem to be any power in the furnace. The green LED light is out. Maybe the transformer has blown out.
@@ChilesHeatCool Finally! I checked for any fuses and there was only one fuse on the control panel. It was a mini circuit breaker - fuse type 3 amp switch. The button on the fuse was in the up position and I could not reset it. I was able to buy the same fuse yesterday and today I put it on and it works! Thank you so much for your help, I was able to fix the problem with your assistance when I had an HVAC guy from GAC Services come over and he couldn't even figure out that the white wire was broken, he even wrote in his summary that the fuse was okay, and that he tested the transformer when he didn't even lower the tray that contained the control panel and transformer.
Relay or switch is stuck or a short in the wires. Check out my video on troubleshooting thermostats, would give you more information for that. And the short could be in the thermostat to.

Which are typically orange or blue wires.
Thank you so much for explaining this , much appreciated !!!

What happend if the heat anticipator is open? will the fuel furnace work?
No, it will be open on the W terminal side and will not allow the 24v to pass through.

Something is jammed or stuck. Might need a new one.
Hi, nice vid! I find my similar (older Honeywell 9721
Not with out an amp meter. You need to measure. If its old, your best bet is a new digital thermostat.

Probably you need to buy a new flame or. Yes need to be clean
What is the yellow wire for? Is it considered a “C wire”..?
Yellow is typically used for cooling.

You might only have an old 4 wire system.
Where should the mercury be? Mine is way over to the left.
The mercury is not adjustable. If its a mercury thermostat it should be replaced. The newest it could be is 1990.
@@ChilesHeatCool oh my husband put a new one it's not mercury ... I use to be able to adjust it I dont know why it's not going on.

If its digital there should up or down buttons. If its a nest it operates on a rotory type switch in the housing.

Rh and w.

If it was a heat pump thermostat it won't. If it was an expensive one it might be in the program. Typically r and w will have the heat run.
@@ChilesHeatCool No Sir, all I spent was $24 dollars on the unit. No heat pump. I'm taking it back for the kind you have in your video. Thank you
What is the problem when the heat anticipator wire is melts/breaks when the thermostat is turned from off to heat?
Current flow is to much or a short on the W wire or what ever wire is used for heat.
