- Well, it's finally time to review an American Adjunct Lager on the channel, and that beer is from the Narragansett Brewing Company, and it's their Narragansett Lager. I've had this one a few times before, but after seeing Paul from PABrewNews review it a few months old, I was inspired to give it a proper review. Enjoy!

Thanks for watching!
Great review 👍 Thank you
Thanks for the kind words, Kurt! Much appreciated, man.
Cheers!
I like it, and in NJ you get a 6 pack of PINTS for $7.99 in 2023 !! A great deal and a very decent full body very drinkable beer !!
Yeah, that is still a great deal! I think it's one of the better American Lagers out there, for sure. Glad you dig it!
Cheers, Michael!
I just bought some yesterday (2022) . .lol . and since i live in Texas . it is kind of a treat since I'm in DC for 3 weeks. Honestly, it's a good, thirst quenching beer for a 6 pack of tall boys for $6.99. I like to try the locals . .Natty Bo's, Lone Star, etc. This is the best of the cheap local beers. Good review you did .. this tastes like the beer I used to drink in Indiana in the early 80's when i went to college.
I completely agree with you. I LOVE trying local beers that people have been drinking for years. I just had Hamm's recently and really enjoyed that. Never had Natty Bo or Lone Star, but I've always been curious about giving them a try. Glad you liked this one. This style will never be my favorite, but it's very refreshing and this one was solid, for sure. Thanks for the comment!
Cheers!
This was a popular beer in the 70s among the older Greatest Generation group here in Massachusetts .I have to try it soon .Have a great 4th of July !
Definitely seems like an New England classic based on what I know. I'm glad I tried it, and I'm even happier I enjoyed it for the style. You have a great 4th of July, too!
Cheers!
You got the lemon correct. That's why it's a fantastic beer to cook seafood with
I could definitely see that! Yeah, I really dig the lemon character in this one.
Cheers!
It goes great with a nice yellowfin tuna steak!
Very Good beer
For what it is, I totally agree, Tony.
Cheers, man!
Just bought a sixer after work today. Forgot how much I enjoyed this. Hope you're well, Joe!
Nice, Eric! I need to try their Fresh Catch, as I've heard good things. I'm doing well, man. Slowly, but surely getting back to 100%!
Cheers, dude!
Narragansett has become my every day beer, since I live in a place where I can’t get Genesee Cream Ale. It was nice to see that Genesee brews it now.
Nice, Boris! Yeah, I could see how it's a suitable replacement for the Cream Ale. I like them both too, so it makes sense.
Cheers!
I have a case of Genny Cream ale and a case of Narragansett Lager stocked regularly. Giddy up!
@@geoffoutdoors Well, Hi, Neighbor!
Sounds like a great time to me, Geoff!
I'm from Philly. Watch yourself about Yuingling. I also love Canada so much I became a citizen. So, your safe!
LOL! I actually like Yuengling, so no issues there. I'm not Canadian, but I live close to the border, but love all my Canadian beer-loving friends, haha!
Cheers, Joe!
I go through phases with my beers. While I love the wide variety of craft brews out there, I can get burned out on them. Call it tastebud fatigue, I guess. It’s then that I honestly prefer the crisp, smooth, simplicity of Narragansett Lager.
I totally understand where you're coming from, Jonathan. Sometimes, you just want to sit back and enjoy a "beer" and not worry about all the crazy flavors and whatnot. I appreciate styles like this because of that very reason. Genesee Cream Ale is my go-to macro when I just want to crack a beer and not worry about anything. I can see Narragansett Lager being that beer for a lot of people, so it makes sense. Thanks for the comment, man.
Cheers!
Agree completely. So many great brews out there, especially IPAs. But sometimes it feels nice to taste a basic, solid macro lager. Narragansett is definitely a good one.
For sure, Brian. Sometimes, you just want a crusher that you don't have to think about and this beer is definitely within that realm. I can respect and appreciate it, no doubt!
Cheers, dude!
I like drinking shit beer, normal night for me consists of 4 pints of Mickey's and a 25oz Natty Ice or 2 (if I wanna get throwed)
New to Beer tube. What is the definition of adjunct lagers? More specifically what is the adjunct definition?
There are way more in-depth definitions and explanations on the good ol' intrawebs, but when it comes to American Adjunct Lagers, the adjuncts are usually corn (of some kind) or rice. Adjuncts are used in all kinds of beer styles, though. Basically, an adjunct is nothing more than a non-malt source of fermentable sugars. I appreciate the question and you stopping by.
Cheers!
Thanks for the explanation. Believe me it helps.
Hi neighbor
... Have a 'Gansett!
Cheers!
My go to in MA. Funny, I've never once poured it into a glass! It was actually a lot darker colored than I was expecting lol. Though it's my go to, it can be hit or miss. Sometimes it hits the spot PERFECTLY for me. Other times, even when fresh, it's a bit off. I'm drinking one now and it's sweeter and maltier than normal with less carbonation and crispness. It feels thicker and sweeter in a bad way, almost fruity. Usually it's more light and refreshing tasting. Right out of the fridge and was canned about 2 months ago. Still, it's standing out as a bit off and unsatisfactory this time as it sometimes does. Not sure what that is, might just be the batch. This is rare but it does happen time to time I've noticed. Still, 6 bucks for 6 pints gets me everytime.
Been drinking this brew for 10 years now and I know when it's off...this batch is definitely off. You'd think a bigger brewery like them would get their shit together but I'm actually not liking this one! Maybe the packie stored it wrong but this is NOT what I'm used to. I was expecting the date to be wicked old or something. 11/23/20 though, not old at all for a lager like this. Again, it's tasted like this before but it's rare. I just finished a different sixer of it a few days ago and it tasted a lot different. Normally it's a solid 7 to 8/10 for an American lager for me. This batch is like a 5/10. Not undrinkable, but disappointing knowing how it normally is.
Batch variation is definitely a thing, and it really sucks when it shows up negatively. I haven't experienced it too much with Lagers like this, but I totally believe you. That said, like you mentioned, this is a great beer for the value. Super crushable and insanely refreshing. I was a bit surprised by the darker color, too. I was thinking it'd be a bit lighter. Sorry to hear about your experience with the current batch, though. Hopefully, the next six pack you buy tastes amazing! Thanks for the comments!
Cheers!
Hahaha too funny about Yuengling! I don't think I've ever had this one. Great review!
Yeah, man. If you haven't checked out his review, you need to. Paul is a good guy and has good content, but that review is just awesome. It just goes to show that when you drink beers blind, you never know what your palate will detect. And you should give this a go sometimes, I feel it give me Genny Cream Ale vibes, albeit not as good.
Cheers, Kyle!
Yuengling Pilsner definitely better than Lager, imho.
Not sure I've had the Pilsner, Brian. At least, I don't recall trying it. I might need to review that and the Lager at some point.
Cheers again, man!
I scored it a "C", but I would like to revisit it.
I would gather a 3/5 -- which I gave it for personal enjoyment -- aligns with your score. If we're talking style, then it's probably in the A- range, IMO.
Pawtucket Pat!
Love me some Family Guy!
Cheers!
Nice branching out to something like this, and actually thought this was somewhat decent as an adjunct lager when I had it on tap. Nice review my friend and yeah Paul...if it’s not warm then what are you doing, lol.
Cheers Brother!
LOL, Rod. Yeah, this one serves its purposes and I would gladly reach for these over MANY American Adjunct Lagers. Paul is either doing it right ... or wrong. Not sure, honestly. ;)
Cheers, brother!
Most hops in the US come from Bonners Ferry, ID.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know that. Pretty cool.
Cheers, Geoff!
I go to Narragansett high Glooks for trying our beer
Nice, Raymond! I enjoyed the beer, for sure.
Cheers!
People that drink all their beer warm, have some fucking issues....and, that's not an opinion.... you can always start off with a slight chill and let it sit...so you can get the best of both worlds....How many reviews has Mr. Grim Viking said( oh, i should have put this in the fridge) and then Terry K, with all the flys, flying around his head during reviews( oh God)...and then you got Evil Black Metal Bob Ross( PaBrewNews )....i bet if he had a chill on that Yuengling lager, he might not have mistaked it for a Saison....CHeeeeeeeRS
LOL -- are those fighting words for Paul?
Great review.....does this beer contain GMOs? Thanks
Thanks! I'm not sure, honestly. I didn't see that information anywhere.
Cheers!
Fair review. But, I would like to see you review a malt liquor...if only once. ;-)
Maybe someday, Eric ... maybe. Thanks, man.
Cheers!
@@averagejoe716 I second this. A/B's Hurricane High Gravity is one of the few ML's I can take. Steel Reserve and Schlitz Gold Bull are decent too.
My favorite cheap beer
Definitely a great cheap beer, which is why so many love it!
Cheers again, dude!
Cheers to you good sir #PaulWasRight #OnlyRoomTemp #AmericanWildAle
#PaulIsNeverRight -- LOL! That Yuengling review will always be awesome to be and it shows people that once you talk everything out of the equation, you never know what your palate will detect.
Cheers, Paul!
5 percent for 6 50 on the cheap I love it
It's definitely a great cheap beer, no doubt.
Cheers, Zach!
Buck a Beer! That's like 2-4 for 24.
Buck for a 473 ml can, too. Can't beat it.
beer snob
Not at all, man. I'm someone who appreciates all styles of beer, and I'm not somebody who knocks others for drinking what they like. Sorry if that's the impression you got from this video.
Cheers!
I can drink pretty much anything from a beast to a rauchbier, we cant get Gansett in North Carolina but I tried one last week, I found it in a beverage store, the only reason I picked it up was memories of Robert shaw crushing the can in Jaws. it impressed me, As an avid home brewer I am a self proclaimed beer snob, for the simple reason I opened myself up to trying new things. I still will pound a 1/2 case of miller from time to time, but I prefer good beer,,,the only thing I cant stomach is an IPA. I didnt mean it as derogatory, tis a badge of honor!
Ah, sorry for jumping to conclusions, haha! I'm pretty much the same way. There's a time and place for almost every single beer. I love trying all the styles, and while I don't like some, it's still fun to give 'em a go. Thanks for the comment, man!
Cheers!
Not that i am going to call myself an expert, on macro lagers.....but, Pabst would be number one. Genny Cream Ale(even though not a lager), and Narraganstt would be a coin toss for number two. MGD would have been third, and the Miller High life( almost a drain pour ) would be next.....and you weren't there for Beer Analysis 101, you bitch...... I wanted to try the 1960's formula Schlitz, but only saw it in six packs, and now i have not seen it. Maybe i should try the regular Schitlz, but have not got around to it yet.
I'd agree with everything but MGD, but that's because I haven't had MGD in a long time and don't remember it standing out. Yeah, I couldn't make it to the BA 101, but I should be on most of August, but next week is a beer I can't get easily and I'm not crossing the border to do so. I want to try the 1960's formula Schlitz, too. I've never seen it around here, though.
Cheers!
