They were created almost the exact same time and had their breakthroughs and grew big at the same time. Evanescence was created 1995 and Linkin Park 1996. They were two of the biggest bands during the 00's.
No, no, no, my immortal, y'all got it wrong! The man didn't pass away. She's the ghost. Look again, she never even touched the ground, he's alone at the piano, he heads off to work down the street, she's the one who's gone. But she doesn't realize she's dead. So she hangs in the trees, walks the fountain, she's in rags of white
Amy Lee is an amazing singer. She does a great song with Seether called "Broken" that is on my personal playlist. Seether is another good rabbit hole if you like to say WTF to videos hahah.
Her and the singer/writer for Seether (Shaun Morgan) had a short relationship after she and Ben broke it off. That song was a total by chance, never planned great collab that's still in my playlist.
Going Under is an amazing song/video. Amy rules multiple genres with her perfect voice and great band!! All of her songs also have deep meaning. Everybody's Fool is my favorite Evanescence video. 😍
Nightwish has been around since '96 and Evanescence since '94. Linkin Park since '96. Amy Lee and Evanescence has been around longer than both aforementioned bands.
kind of. the dates when they formed is true, but NW's first studio album came out 6 years before Evanescence's. NW actually released 4 studio albums before Evanescence's first came out (Angles Fall First '97, Oceanborn '98, Wishmaster '00, and Century Child '02 vs Evanescense with Fallen '03). Yes, they had a couple of indy EP's, but NW was out and established with over 1 million albums sold worldwide before the first sale of Fallen. So yes, Evanescence technically was together first, but goofing around local bars in Little Rock doesn't really count... does it? ;)
@oktober-vh6gl this is true. Also there is essentially no way that anyone in the USA would find anything Nightwish in the 90's, considering they were from Finland and the internet was in its infancy.
This is one of the most iconic songs of my life. I didn't see the video for years after. I was at a time of great spiritual flux when i heard this. It resonated with the relationship I was fervently searching for with the Creator. I know this doesn't exactly line up with intent of the song, or most people's perception of it. However, it spoke to me in a way that I needed at the time. This is in my to tier of favorite songs ever.
Amy Lee is definitely one of my rock goddesses, such a powerful female rocker ! You want alternative and open your perspectives to female rocker, you should definitely listen to "Love Bites (So Do I)" from Halestorm and "Awakening" from Unleash the Archers. Those 2 singers, combined with Amy Lee and Floor Jansen, they are my personal pantheon :)
Amy has said many times that the record company forced them to have a male vocalist that could sing and rap on the track to sound more like all the nu-metal of the time
@@murder13lovenah, he filled in a void, but the song sounds just fine without him live... Amy would've done the "wake me up/save me" part in the studio if they didn't force them to use a male vocalist for that.
I’ve seen countless bands live and have had the pleasure of seeing Evanescence multiple times. They are so amazing in person and her voice will just gives you chills. Her piano playing is truly exceptional also.
Bonnie Taylor Im holding out for a Hero is a banger track no matter who you are. I believe this song was something the record company wanted. At this time with nu metal exploding the record company wanted a "rap" in the song... evanescence almost didnt agree to this and was almost ready to walk away from their deal over this. I like the ending of this song because the video isn't about the guys side.... it is about a womans story. So yeah its refreshing to have a music video that isnt just a mans hero dream :)
I played this CD on repeat for 2 years. It came out at the time I started running so whenever I ran on the treadmill I listened to this whole album and I got superstitious and convinced myself that if I ever changed the CD I wouldn’t be able to run as fast or as far (perfect example of my OCD). I never got sick of this album and when I hear this song my body immediately wants to run!!! lol Amy’s voice is sooooo good.
Evanescence is incredible. The whole band is a banger and they have so many big hits. If you get a chance, see her live absolutely as good if not better in person.
That's a bit misleading though. Evanescence was a duo until the 2000's. They didn't play the same style of music in 94. Neither of them had any influence on the other and aren't even the same genre of music. Always makes me scratch my head when they're compared.
Amy Lee is a vocal monster who dominated the rock scene in the early 2000's you should react to the official going under and everybody's fool videos soon both incredible songs with videos which perfectly capture their message which is about Amy's struggle dealing with fame and the music industry.
Evanescence is from 1995 and Nightwish and Within temptation are from 1996. Nightwish now has a Dutch singer just like Within temptation. THey all have very good music.
Amy Lee is Awesome!! She can hit high notes like no other!! Love her!!❤❤ Funny thing is I was just thinking I should recommend Evanescence to you. Glad you found this. This is one of my favorites.
The "creepy clown faces" is actually my favorite visual piece of the video, the girl has a smiling clown mask, and then she lifts it and you can see she's crying. In those two split seconds, so much is said, about how people wear happy masks to hide the pain from others, to the point where it's so unnatural it's almost clownish. It's too bad it often goes unnoticed, it's such a powerful metaphor.
Bring Me to Life Guitarist Ben Moody and David Hodges also share songwriting credits on the song, which features guest vocals from Paul McCoy of the band 12 Stones. Evanescence is an American rock band founded in 1994 by singer and keyboardist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody in Little Rock, Arkansas. After releasing independent EPs as a duo in the late 90s and a demo CD, Evanescence released their debut studio album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records in 2003. Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in April 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Kitee. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and ormer lead singer Tarja Turunen. Epica's conception in 2002, with drummer, Ariën van Weesenbeek joining as early as 2007, lead guitarist Isaac Delahaye following in 2009.
This song this band has saved me personally in my darkest time after my dad overdosed(suicide) Amy Lee is such a good artist and lyricist, I hope to keep seeing the amazing reactions man
This was the first release off of "Fallen" their first LP album. The phrase that you heard at the end was "Don't let me die here." Also the ending after she wakes up, when they look in on the band, is illustrating the idea that it is a relationship that is wished for, but has not happened. He is walking away from the window because he is not aware of her.
My Immortal was written by bandmember Ben Moody, in honor of the passing of his grandfather, who had been a significant influence in his life. Amy did write a song to honor her sister who had died when the two of them were just little kids. That song called.Hello. As I understand, this song was actually written regarding the man who would eventually become her husband. At the time, however, she was in relationship with someone else. So that’s why this one where it ended the way that it ended. Her husband to be was, if you want to put it, this way starting to wake her up, but at that time she was still trying to make that old relationship work.
The quality of being evanescent; liability to vanish and escape observation or possession: as, the evanescence of mist or dew; the evanescence of earthly hopes.
Another banger with a similar concept is The Promise by In This Moment. I believe the male vocalist in Bring Me To Life was the lead singer of the band 12 Stones.
Bring Me To Life and my immortal are on the same album. There are many metal bands that have a female lead and a male also providing back up. Lacuna Coil, Epica, Within Temptation Eyes set to kill, ect.
Excellent choice! Evanescence is one of my fav bands. Amy Lee is like no other. Her voice is truly haunting, and she touches your soul. I love her voice so much. Check out the song Whisper. It's wasn't one of the most popular songs, but it's one of my favs.. an incredible song. And to answer the question.."What is Evanescence?" ..it a word; definition is: the quality of being fleeting or vanishing quickly; impermanence: the evanescence of dreams.
I've heard this song a hundred times but have never seen the video. I could have done without her being dropped!! I never thought about the Linkin Park vibe before but will every time I hear it going forward. 🙂
You should react to the Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford duet "Close My Eyes Forever" if you're not familiar. Great heavy metal love song. Back in Ozzy's prime. He actually had a pretty great singing voice and it goes perfectly with Lita Ford's smoky, sultry growling voice. Such a classic song.
Paul McCoy the singer for 12 Stones is the male vocalist. Both Evanescence & 12 Stones were on Wind Up records and collaborated I believe by recommendation of the record company.
The group is based around her, the record label wouldn’t let her do the song unless they added a rapper to that song. She was conflicted by it. But the label pushed for her to add someone. That was around Linkin Park was out and it was the sound of that time.
Here: Evanescence comes from the Latin evanescere meaning "disappear, vanish." Something that possesses qualities of evanescence, has a quality of disappearing or vanishing. The evanescence of a shooting star makes it hard to catch - it's there one moment and gone the next. and another word similar: Evanescent; meaning soon passing out of sight, memory, or existence; quickly fading or disappearing. "a shimmering evanescent bubble"
Evanescence is actually, surprisingly two years older than Nightwish... Evanescence was formed in America in 1994, Nightwish was formed in Finland in 1996. They aren't a knock-off, just two groups in a similar or the same genre of music. I love both groups! Nightwish, Evanescence, Within Temptation, and Disturbed was my SH*T in the mid-late 2000's... them and Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, and HIM....
Now when we ask who came first we have to take into consideration that some people have never heard of these bands until they debuted internationally but the research I did says Evenescence released their first song in 1998 and Nightwish had demos of songs recorded and released in 1997 but thats just what I found❕❗ Remember wikipedia isn't always right because anybody can go in and make changes to info❕❗
BP react to Fleetwood Mac. It’s a partially female lead band. Stevie Nicks is amazing! You won’t regret it. The music speaks to everybody! Another great band: Hole.
The male vocalist on this is Paul McCoy of 12 Stones. Amy Lee also appeared on stage with 12 Stones a few rime times when their bands toured together in the early 2000's. Neither group was huge yet when that tour happened, but let me tell you it was an unforgettable show for me.
yeah the guy singing is Paul McCoy the lead vocals from 12 Stone. and Evanescence formed way back in 1995 in Little Rock, Arkansas. and Night Wish was formed in 1996, so Evanescence was first. They gained momentum in their career when this song was featured in the Daredevil movie in 2003 and shot up from there. this song also won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2004. Also the name Evanescence comes from the Latin evanescere meaning "disappear, vanish."
The tv show was Cover Up - Jon-Erik Hexum died during filming in 1984 when he thought a blank pistol wouldn't hurt him. He suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was gorgeous and would have gone far. I still can't hear "I Need a Hero" without tearing up.
Evanescence started in 1994 and Nightwish 1996 Y’all should check out Within Temptation if you like those 2 bands And far as the “guy that might be in the group” He isn’t in Evanescence, he was just featured in the song. He’s name is Paul McCoy and The band he is in is called “12 stones” This song takes me back to my high school days and alllll the concerts I went to Good Ol’ Days 💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤
Hey guys, the “Hero” song I think you were referring to was “I need a hero” and it was on a great 80’s soundtrack from the movie “Footloose” with Kevin Bacon. It also has several great songs from another great rock songwriter Kenny Loggins…
If you have never checked them out, check out 12 Stones. The lead singer of that band was the guest vocals for this song. They had some great songs back in the day. Especially check out their debut album 12 Stones and the music on there.
Evanescence has been around 25 years. they just released the 25th anniversary edition of their debut album "Fallen" where this song is from. that guy singing isn't part of the actual band. his name is Paul McCoy and sings for the band 12 Stones
There's a Nightwish song (with their former singer Tarja) where the male guitarist sings too, called Wish I had an angel, but here in this case as people said it's a guest.
The dude is Paul McCoy from 12 Stones, he's not part of the band Evanescence. I suppose because this was their first single, they didn't want to confuse people with the 'ft.' tittle. Linkin Park came out the year before and changed rock with their new sound from hybrid theory, and from what i understand, this song was curated by the label to mimic that sound by inserting the male vocal rapping. For other suggestions on Evanescence and Amy Lee, check out "Call me you're sober", "Going Under", and Seether ft. Amy Lee -"Broken" (Amy's estranged husband's band). IIRC, Call me when you're sober was about Seether's Shaun Morgan. Indecently, Seether has some bangers as well you'd enjoy reacting to.
Amy Lee is just pure talent. It’s such a shame the industry has all but forgotten about her. It’s so wrong. Evanescence are such an underrated band nowadays. Evanescence means like evaporating into nothingness sort Of.
Corvyx did a cover of this song. I believe you reacted to him recently! I'm a female and have always been into the...less mainstream music. Though this album and especially this song were on the radio at the time. Other female rock vocalists I recommend are Sharon from Within Temptation and Maria from In This Moment.
Hey guys! I think the song you guys were talking about is "Holding Out For A Hero". It was recorded by Bonnie Tyler for the 1984 film Footloose. Notably, a cover of the song was used in Shrek in 2004, sang by British Actress/Comedian Jennifer Saunders.
Check out Anastacia. Everyone is always shocked at her voice. She has such a strong voice and is incredible live. I'm outta love is a good one to start with. Also 'Not that kind of girl'. Also check out LP.
My interpretation of the song was always that she was singing about depression and feeling like her romantic partner was the only person who could wake up her emotions and bring her out of it. Combined with the video, I took it as her basically descending into deeper depression as she climbed the building, heading for a life ending decision. She starts the romantic aspect of the lyrics right as she reaches his window, like that connection was a light at the end of the tunnel and they both struggle to pull her out of that depression but he clearly doesn't know what he's doing and ends up failing her.
She did "Freak on a Leash" live with Korn too and it was great
It wasn't just great it was freakin amazing.
She wrote this song about the man who ended up being her husband. ❤
What a pathetic woman...no wonder the rest of the band moved on to better things.
Poor girl is stuck in the past...
Amy Lee is a beast of a vocalist. She is also a clasically trained pianist.
Amy Lee is the lead singer. The male vocalist is the frontman for 12 Stones and he was a guest for this song.
Guest might not be the right word.
Its linkin park🥴🥴🥴
Mike shinoda was in the original but the studio re recorded with the guy from 12 stones. The Mike shinoda version is better imo
Never knew this was the frontman from 12 stones…. Anthem of the underdog and adrenaline are bangers
They were created almost the exact same time and had their breakthroughs and grew big at the same time. Evanescence was created 1995 and Linkin Park 1996. They were two of the biggest bands during the 00's.
In the end was in 2001. 2 years not much but same time? barely.
No, no, no, my immortal, y'all got it wrong! The man didn't pass away. She's the ghost. Look again, she never even touched the ground, he's alone at the piano, he heads off to work down the street, she's the one who's gone. But she doesn't realize she's dead. Thank you for clearing that up.
Evanescence: the quality of being fleeting, disappearing quickly. Used esp with something airy, fragile, delicate. Dreamlike
I love her cover of “going to California“ by Led Zeppelin. It’s just stellar.
LOVE that song!!!
Remedy's video always made me feel uncomfortable for some reason when I was younger, lol. I've always liked the song though.
Going Under is an amazing song/video. Amy rules multiple genres with her perfect voice and great band!! All of her songs also have deep meaning.

I don't really care which group released first....Sleeping Sun crushes this genre
Holding out for a Hero was on the Footloose soundtrack.

I knew you'd pause the video when he dropped her, I KNEW you would!
The male vocalist on this is Paul McCoy of 12 Stones. Amy Lee also appeared on stage with 12 Stones a few rime times when their bands toured together in the early 2000's. Neither group was huge yet when that tour happened, but let me tell you it was an unforgettable show for me.
You guys should check out everybody's fool by evanescence. Its one of my favorites ❤
yeah the guy singing is Paul McCoy the lead vocals from 12 Stone. and Evanescence formed way back in 1995 in Little Rock, Arkansas. and Night Wish was formed in 1996, so Evanescence was first. They gained momentum in their career when this song was featured in the Daredevil movie in 2003 and shot up from there. this song also won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2004. Also the name Evanescence comes from the Latin evanescere meaning "disappear, vanish."
This is a collaboration. She has a fantastic duet with Lindsey Sterling. 🎉🎉
In this song, 12 stones is the band that is featured. They are a Christian rock band. And they are one of my fav Christian rock bands!!
The male vocalist in this song isn't part of the group, he's a guest vocals, he sing for a band called 12 Stones
That's not true.......the male vocalist is part of the group, they ended up breaking up cus they broke up

Evanescence started in 1994 and Nightwish 1996
Y’all should check out Within Temptation if you like those 2 bands
And far as the “guy that might be in the group”
He isn’t in Evanescence, he was just featured in the song.
He’s name is Paul McCoy and The band he is in is called “12 stones”
This song takes me back to my high school days and alllll the concerts I went to
Good Ol’ Days 💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤
Hey guys, the “Hero” song I think you were referring to was “I need a hero” and it was on a great 80’s soundtrack from the movie “Footloose” with Kevin Bacon. It also has several great songs from another great rock songwriter Kenny Loggins…
If you have never checked them out, check out 12 Stones. The lead singer of that band was the guest vocals for this song. They had some great songs back in the day. Especially check out their debut album 12 Stones and the music on there.
nightwish first came onto the scene in 1996, evanesence first formed in 1994 ! Great music all round and awesome reaction !
This is a great song. I feel like there is a little Phantom of the Opera influence. The male female vocals combo really works.
Nightwish did a cover on Phantom that is great
"Holding Out For A Hero" was by Bonnie Tyler!! Great song too!!! 🎶🎼🎵🥁🎸🎤🎧🎹🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘
For the record Evanescence came together in 1994 Nightwish came together in 1996
Evanescence has been around 25 years. they just released the 25th anniversary edition of their debut album "Fallen" where this song is from. that guy singing isn't part of the actual band. his name is Paul McCoy and sings for the band 12 Stones
Evanescence has been around since 1994.
ok so i guess fallen may have been their first major release. @@connielyons562
There's a Nightwish song (with their former singer Tarja) where the male guitarist sings too, called Wish I had an angel, but here in this case as people said it's a guest.
That guy singer was the frontman for a band called 12 Stones. This was the only song he was featured on.
Hero was on The Footloose Soundtrack.
Sings to my soul
The male singer is a feature on this track he is the vocalist for a band called 12 stones
Evanescence means like evaporating into nothingness sort
Of.
Also check out LP.
what a voice
Broken by Seether featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence is amazing!
She sings like an angel ❤
My interpretation of the song was always that she was singing about depression and feeling like her romantic partner was the only person who could wake up her emotions and bring her out of it. Combined with the video, I took it as her basically descending into deeper depression as she climbed the building, heading for a life ending decision. She starts the romantic aspect of the lyrics right as she reaches his window, like that connection was a light at the end of the tunnel and they both struggle to pull her out of that depression but he clearly doesn't know what he's doing and ends up failing her.
