Every detail and choice of colors, you've got an amazing gift, and a lot of patience. Sbe is absolutely gorgeous! I waiting to hear from you about a designer asking you to create conversation and your getting paid as well.
Gorgeous! You are so very brave to make such bold color changes. I would not be confident enough to do that. I'd be afraid I'd put all that work into it and then not like one of the changes or something. You have a designer's eye.
She is just beautiful!!! love your changes and i have one question for you. I was taught that the beads go horizontal, I noticed yours are vertical. Does it make a difference or is it preference only? I like the vertical better.
Thank you! I am 100% self taught, so if there is a "right & wrong" for attaching beads I am none the wiser haha. For me it's just personal preference and whatever works for the fabric/count of fabric. I have usually done all my beads with just a half cross throughout the project. I predominantly stitch on 32ct so sometimes the way the beads are charted I need them slanted so I can get them to fit, and even then I have had to leave a bead out here and there--there were only a couple tight squeezes in this pattern for me. This was the first project where I have beads going in all directions; the size 11 ones I did at an angle but the size 8 & 6 beads I played around with how they lay. Unless you want to submit your work into a contest that has specific rules I say bead however you like them best!
She is absolutely gorgeous! I'm wondering about how you go about ironing a piece that you use the invisible thread on for the beads, when it's finished? I prefer the invisible thread for the beads, but I'm so scared the thread is going to melt if I iron over it and all my beads will fall off! I can never get anything with beads smoothed out after the finish. Just wondering how you handle it?I admire all of your substitutes, I'm not very confident to do so. :). Yours look awesome!
Thank you! Yes the ironing will be tricky, I've read of others melting the thread. I haven't ironed yet, but I would put a clean towel over it first and use the iron on a lower setting and make sure not to stay in any place too long; ironing the plain fabric without stitching though you could hold in place as you need. I haven't yet framed anything with beads but I would count on the stretching of the fabric onto the mounting board to eliminate any creases/lumps & bumps. The creasing you get with Q-snaps is a big reason why I moved to a scroll frame and that has helped a lot to keep the projects smooth. I also store my projects from a clip hanger in my closet so they are never folded. I hope some of that will be helpful to you :)
Such a beautiful finish and love the changes especially using beads instead of the flower embellishments in her hair. I saw in the details that you used invisible thread for the beading. Is there a particular brand you'd recommend?
Thank you Sasha! I used Wonder Invisible Thread, I got mine from 123stitch. I do have mixed feelings about it, the end result is really nice but working with it is tricky. I also wasn't impressed with the stability of the beads, especially larger size 8 & 6 beads, and that's after I double the thread on the needle. I feel like my beads are better anchored when I use DMC. I've also heard others using Nymo thread with really nice results, it's another nylon thread but it's not considered 'invisible'. I think most get the white color and say it doesn't stand out. I haven't tried this yet but it's on my list of things to buy next time I make an order. :)
the evergreen needle thank you for responding :), I will add both to my next 123stitch order and experiment with them. I'm currently a bit more than half way on stitching Christmas in London by mirabilia and haven't been sure whether to use thread that matches the colour of the fabric or beads or nearby stitches but the use invisible thread looks great on your finish and completely blends/looks invisible :). thank you for your advice.
Hi Kelli! Would you ever consider doing a conversion of Mirabilia's October Opal Fairy? I love how the wind is blowing around her, but do not love the colors! Thanks!
Hi Lauren! At this time that project isn't on my list of projects to tackle. I still have a bunch of big wips I'm working my way through. I would suggest breaking down which colors bother you, say the pink, and write down all the pinks that are used and in order of light to dark as they appear; then figure out what kind of color you'd rather use and find the same number of colors and make a new gradient to use in its place. You could even look at her other patterns to find a color gradient that has the same number of colors and use those so you don't have to figure them out from scratch.
Hi Karen! Thank you so much! I used the YLI invisible thread on this one, my first time using it; I've used DMC on all the other projects with beads. Right now I have Bluebeard's Princess and Raven Queen going :)

Thank you Dena, you are too kind! It is nerve wrecking making some changes for just that reason! Luckily this time I didn't run into big issues haha.

Kelli just a beautiful piece of art!! What type of thread did you for beading? What's your next Mira? HAPPY STITCHING!!
