    I agree with you that Variation is very useful, #1 for me is to set a snapshot of the beginning of my live set, so that even after I have played and changed all the device settings during soundcheck, I can get a clean start to the set when the show starts - to avoid my common mistake of leaving the Auto Filter or Gain all the way down and everything is silent!

    • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I've been having something like this for over a decade now in my live sets. I call it 'total recall'. First done with Kapture, then with ClyphX (Pro). With Variations, it's going to be easier to set up though than with Clyph X. I do a lot of live looping and having something that can change settings (arm tracks, set volume levels etc.) makes things less cumbersome. It's too many things to remember otherwise to be truly in the performance to be enjoyed by the audience and me.

      Finally! Being a Clyphx user since the beginning just can't live without it. Btw Stray the founder and developer of NativeKontrol (the primordials of Clyphx) went working for Ableton a couple years ago so i was kind of expecting something like this @@sonicbloomtuts

    I missed something like the ZenAudio ALK2 defunct DAW but the PreArranger seems to sovle that, very nice! Can't wait to try Live 12.
    Question about the pre-arranger: if you set multiple record clips in the same track, can you play one of the first recordings instead of always the last recording? Is it somethnig like the clip names tells the tool which record clip is associated with which "playing" clip?

    • @sonicbloomtuts

    Hi Madeleine, great presentation as always. I use ClyphX in session view from my Live set. From watching this video, it seems to suggest I could abandon much of the scripting for these tools. So many scripts to perform track selection with device arming, etc. I do a great deal of live looping with my guitar and preconfigure drum racks that are also looped. From what I'm seeing, it seems like I could move into arrangement view for the live set. And there are some advantages to that IMO - automation in general just gets easier (visually). Out of curiosity, how is this going to change your own Live set? Are you using Session or Arrangement view. I've always been in Session myself using ClyphX since Live 10.

    • @sonicbloomtuts

      I will likely replace a lot of what I did with ClyphX with Variations. I don't think I will move into the Arrangement View though. Tbh, I haven't had much time to see how the devices from the Performance Pack could be implemented well. I will start doing this from early to mid March as I need to prepare for a concert in May. I'm the Variations device will feature quite heavily, perhaps Performer as well. The other two likely not.

      @LeviStrickland 4 месяца назад

      I agree, Variations is incredible. I'll just have to try things out and see fits best. I'd love to see a video of your live setup once you have your updates in place. I find it incredibly useful to see how others use Ableton as a performance tool. With it being so modular, it's fascinating how unique the configuration can be performer to performer. I took Anthony's course at Seed to Stage and Daniel Mintseris class on his live show for St. Vincent. Both very eye opening. Plus, I really enjoy your work. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, that's possible. Just create the tracks with the device. I haven't tested how well the arming works with multiple tracks, but it should work. If not, there's the possibility to make a clip with the command (all explained in the device itself), so you still don't have to take care of it when you want to record.

    • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  Месяц назад +1

      You'd have to map anew with every new project since the Live Set might have very different tracks and devices etc. What works though is to create a Live Set and save it as a template. Then all the mappings are present, both from the controller to Performer as well as the MIDI mappings in Live itself.

    these look very interesting! does Performer allow you to launch selected clip an armed track - so record a clip at selected position? • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  7 месяцев назад

      I think you mean Prearranger as Performer is for the controller layout. In Arrangement View, yes. Not in Session View if that's what you were asking. Although it does record a clip in SV as well.

    • @spookydirt
      @spookydirt 7 месяцев назад

      @@sonicbloomtuts I mentioned Performer as i was wondering if I could make a controller layout that i could assign that function to. but yes, prearranger might be the way to go. thank you! I'll have a look once I get my hands on 12

    • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  7 месяцев назад

      @@spookydirt Ah, I see. Yes, you can map Performer controls to anything in Live that is MIDI mappable. So you could also combine these Max for Live devices. If you want to record in Session View, you could use Performer plus Variations linked to clips/scenes that arm a track and start recording in a clip slot.

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora 7 месяцев назад

      @3:45 the drop down has a selector for MIDI note so I assume that the answer is "yes". I hope so, anyways! And maybe you can even chance the range of the knob so different knob ranges will trigger different notes. Could be very cool for a sidechained noise on a gate or whatever. I also wonder if the toggle buttons will trigger MIDI notes for basic clip launching but I assume they can.

    • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  7 месяцев назад +1

      @jasonzdora I don't think the different ranges for different MIDI notes will work. The toggle button could trigger MIDI notes, because you can just map it to anything you want.

    Hey M, you don’t need to use User Mode to control the Performer. There is a built in Push Bank editor and by default, when the device is in focus, the first 8 controls are mapped to the 8 knobs. User Mode might be helpful I guess if you want to “lock” 8 knobs to Performer but then you loose a lot of Push native functions

      Yes, I know it took forever for ClyphX Pro. The original dev now works full time for Ableton and didn't have time, so others took over in their spare time. There's always been a branch off the old free ClyphX though that had been working. At least for the features I'd tried. I think Variations might actually replace it for me, but I'll have to dig deeper to see if it does everything I'd want.
      I'll take your request under consideration, but these videos take a long time to make.

    • @EannaButler
      @EannaButler 7 месяцев назад

      @@sonicbloomtutsif I’m not mistaken, live 11 involved an upgrade to python 3. Clyphx is written in python, but the python 3 runtime should mostly be backward-compatible to run python 2 source code.. so it shouldn’t have been a big deal, unless the Live model (the LOM) had a different API. I think that this was the cause for delays with clyphx in live 11.. 🤷😊

    • @sonicbloomtuts
      @sonicbloomtuts  7 месяцев назад

      @@EannaButler Yes, Python 3 was added in Live 11. I'm not sure what the issue exactly was with ClyphX Pro. I asked, but didn't get a reply. I think mainly that the dev had zero time himself, so others had to jump in and that in their spare time. Here's the free ClyphX that was updated for Live 11 much, much faster: github.com/ldrolez/clyphx-live11
      It offers less features than the Pro version, which had been rewritten from the ground up. Some commands are not the same because of this. Since I never had much time for live stuff once the Pro version came out, I actually feel more comfortable with the free one. Even though I have Pro as well.
      Variations is more immediate if you need to make changes than ClyphX, which has always been a point of contention for me. You can sink in so much time sorting out a live performance setup. With Variations, when you realise you missed changing parameters, you make them, then resave the variation. Done.
